The menu lists several flavors of donuts of "raised"/stick donuts and "round" donuts. Raised donuts include the following flavors: Cream Sticks (marshmallow filling with chocolate topping), Jelly Sticks (raspberry-jelly filling with sugar coating), Cinnamon Sticks (cinnamon glaze), and Glazed. Round donuts include the following flavors: Glazed, Powdered Sugar, Chocolate, Peanut (with marshmallow cream), Cinnamon Sugar, Plain Old-fashioned, and Sprinkle (with marshmallow cream). I chose the Raspberry Jelly Stick, and my husband chose the Chocolate Cream Stick. The employee provided excellent service in greeting us, patiently waiting for us to decide our flavors, and processing our payment. I do recommend that the business add labels near the donuts, but the employee did explain the flavors to us. Each donut cost $1.90. Both of our donuts tasted very good. Great local bakery! They open early at 7am and popular in the community, so they sell out ealier on weekends. We arrived at 10am and they still had around 7 flavor options left. They all looked great and freshly made, so we ordered half a dozen. The cinnamon swirls stick was my favorite! It was extremely flavorful, natural sweetness tasting, and fluffy. The cake donut with sprinkles was also delicious with great flavor and a smooth vanilla frosting. Even the plain glazed donuts were great! Service was friendly and welcoming, even gave us a bonus glazed donut. The half dozen came to $10, which is an awesome deal too! Overall, a great experience and will be coming back again. read more

This shop is a lame excuse for a donut shop! Never open when they say they will be. Don't make the donuts there get them shipped in from who knows where.. their donuts were in the case but "we aren't open yet" is what I was told as the TWO employees sit on their phones. The unkind way the employees treated me when I asked if they were open insures I won't stop there ever again. The shop could not have had brighter lighting to showcase what was not for anyone at all! There might be a new king/queen of donuts n the south hills! A coworker brought Madsen donuts to our office and though I was only able to snag one I knew immediately I needed more. We had a tough time deciding, so we got an assortment. There are both cake and risen donuts so there's something for everyone. And you honestly can't go wrong with any of the choices, but our favorites were the cinnamon stick, the jelly-filled stick, the chocolate long John and the powdered sugar. We stopped to try Madsen Donuts for the first time today and definitely recommend them! We were able to try 11 out of the 12 donuts that they carry (the cinnamon sugar sticks weren't available yet). We arrived before they opened and were quickly in and out. It was really cool to see how patient and kind the owners were being with their teenage staff. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The donuts themselves were fresh and delicious. A lot of donuts in the area are greasy and leave that film in your mouth after you finish eating them, but Madsen's oil must be very clean and the right temperature because there was no oil flavor or oil residue. They seem to stick with the tried and true donuts and don't have the same variety you might find at other places, but what they do have are definitely keepers. I thought I'd miss all of the unique flavors, but it was actually kind of nice not to be overwhelmed with options. I've never liked jelly donuts, but I think their jelly donut might be my favorite out of them all! The most impressive are the glazed. Normally a glazed is the last people go for because they just seem boring in comparison, but these were literally perfection. We both agreed we'd go back and just be happy with the glazed. Their vanilla icing is a marshmallow based which is really fun. The chocolate icing is the perfect sweetness and dries to a hard shell. They don't skimp on any of the toppings either which is usually my biggest complaint. The cake is a great texture and the raised are airy and light. Looking forward to going back again! read more

My husband was craving doughnuts so we stopped here because I have heard great things! When we went in around noon, we were the only customers in there. As we arrived, we were quickly greeted. He asked if this was our first time here and we answered that it was. He then gave us a quick tour and description of all of their doughnuts. We really appreciated that and it helped make our decisions of what to order. We ended up getting a half dozen of doughnuts and Turner's Tea. He also gave us their business card. He said we could look at their full menu online and call an order ahead to ensure we get what we want before anything would run out. We each tried a doughnut and whew... they were so fresh and delicious. We will definitely be back and we will definitely refer people to Madsen's to cure their doughnut craving! read more

A lovely spread of donuts greets you as soon as you swing open the door, and there are many options to choose from. However, my favorite was not there so that's a bummer. Absolutely blown away! If you're in the South Hills, this is where you need to get your donuts. I've driven past here many times and it is very unassuming from the outside. However, with the "Donuts" sign speaking to me one too many times, I finally answered to the temptation. Madsen offers a a variety of both cake and yeast donuts. I'm usually partial to the yeast donut, but the cake donuts here are the best cake donuts I have ever had. Seriously. Not only are the donuts top-notch, the same could be said about the service. I was so pleased when the gentleman behind the counter asked me if it was my first time visiting to which I said "yes;" he proceeded to explain all the donuts they offered. He even offered me a sample of their donut hole. I was already sold after walking in and seeing the donuts for myself, but the sample absolutely solidified my decision. For the coffee drinkers, there was a sign stating they offer coffee from Nicholas Coffee. This will definitely be my go-to for donuts from now on! read more

Recently ordered some birthday treats for our donut- obsessed 10-year old and we could not have been happier. Not only did the donuts taste better than any other I've had in the region, but the customer service was probably the best I've experienced anywhere in many many years. Amy went above and beyond to explain the options to me and make suggestions that she thought my daughter would love. This donut shop came highly recommended and I just had to try. Read online they usually sell out, so naturally I arrived early. Bought a variety to try with my boyfriend. We had some favorites, well other flavors didn't do it for us. Our favorites were the raspberry jelly filled and the cinnamon baked in donuts. The coffee was actually pretty good as well. You could definitely taste that the donuts are homemade and you can see them making them! The donuts are better than a chain brand. I love a good donut (maybe it's because I'm shaped like one?). Finding a really good donut shop isn't easy- some places have one or two really food donuts, others are just a half step above Dunkin Donuts. Today, I found a donut unicorn- a donut ship where every donut I tried was delicious and consistent. Madsen Donuts just opened in Pittsburgh, but they've been doing this for a long time- the Geneva-on-the-lake store has been open since 1938. The Pittsburgh location in Castle Shannon on Rt 88 in a little strip mall buttressed between a Sherwin-Williams and a gyros restaurant. The logo is a classic old-school white and blue, and the interior is white, bright and open- you're greeted by glass cases showing off the donuts and an open kitchen where tons of smiling staff are quickly making more donuts to meet the demand. I was actually worried about getting there an hour after their open- some bakeries only make so many donuts a day and then run out- but the Madseneers (copyright pending, lol) we're pumping out trays of fresh donuts before our eyes. Visually, the donuts are a feast for the eyes- classic glazed and cake glazed donuts are surrounded by sprinkled donuts, peanut-crusted donuts, jelly-filled donuts, chocolate-kissed donuts, and so much more. The smells are intoxicating too- frying donuts dance with fresh coffee in the air before you even walk in. Since I couldn't decide on one flavor, we got a mixed dozen. A great glazed donut is what a donut shop is measured by, and Madsen's delivers. The glazed donuts are light and airy, with a thick glaze- you know they're good when the glaze cracks and breaks off before you bite it. The donut melts in your mouth, without being greasy or dry. I also tried the cake glazed donut, which had an amazing cake flavor- it was nice to see two different glazed donuts with such distinct flavors. The chocolate covered donut had an amazing chocolatey flavor, and the glaze was closer to frosting (which I prefer). I also tried the marshmallow- filled chocolate covered donut, which might be my favorite taste combination in a donut ever. My kids tried the sprinkled donut- not too many but not too much sprinkles- and they assured me they were delicious. We also got the cinnamon donuts, an oblong shaped donut that is heaven in your mouth- it was like a cinnamon roll and a donut had a baby, and I have a feeling my wife will be expecting me to get those on a regular basis. In all, Madsen Donuts is everything the South Hills needs- an awesome donut shop with a great mic of donuts, consistent taste, friendly staff, and a classic vibe. They also sell Nickolas Coffee and great merch- that classic logo looks great on coffee mugs and T-shirts. I think the only negative I can find is there are no tables to enjoy your donut right away, but I won't judge you if you scarf one down in the parking lot. read more

The donuts were very fresh and the lady at the counter couldn't have been nicer, however $15 plus tax for a dozen of the most very very moderately sized glazed donuts in my opinion is extremely expensive for the size of them. I'm sorry, they were absolutely delicious and fresh but they are very small for the very big price. I enjoyed the 2 I bought and I planned on getting a dozen but they are just too overpriced for me and that's just my opinion, maybe other people will say different and I'm ok with that but I definitely can't get a dozen donuts and a coffee and spend almost $20. Unless I see coupons I probably won't be back and I buy a lot of donuts and it is going to be tough because they are very good. I would've given a 5 on taste and freshness but I subtracted 2 for the price. I can't get behind $15 A dozen donuts at the local fresh bakery in Brookline is about $9 and they are twice the size with about the same quality. For perspective, on my donut rating scale, Oram's in Beaver Falls is a 5 star and Dunkin' Donurs is a 1 star. I found that Madsen's are a 3. The donuts were very fresh and the bakery was well stocked when I was there. The staff was friendly and enthusiastic. The raised donuts did not have a very yeasty taste, rather bland. The cake donuts were much better. I really like the cinnamon cake donuts. Very disappointed with the glazed cinnamon stick. Please take note that these donuts are on the smaller size. At $15 per dozen, they are very much overpriced. I had high hopes, but In my experience, Madsen's is not a stop that I would go out of my way to visit. read more
