I need the receipt in a certain way for my employer to reimburse a team lunch, it apparently frustrated the waitress and she used profanities toward me including the Fbomb. Not the best Mexican food I've had, but Efrain's was definitely a busy, authentic, family-run restaurant! My family and I went on a weeknight around dinner time and it was hoppin'! I think they were understaffed, which made for the slow service. However, our waitress was patient and working very hard to make sure we had everything we needed, despite it being extremely busy. I ordered the "Efrain" which is basically a HUGE burrito filled with whatever the chef chooses, covered in green chile. It was big enough to share, but overall mediocre. read more

The place isn't going to blow you away but they're a solid traditional Mexican restaurant with good salsa that's not too hot but has a decent kick, makes good chicken and beef for their dishes, and provides a cozy hometown feel that fits right into the old town Lafayette vibe. The servers were great and personable, the food & drinks were affordable and so I don't see any reason to not give them a shot. read more

I think this may have been the most unpleasant dining experience I've had in many years. Stopped in on a Wednesday night, it was packed and I have no clue why. I was immediately put off by the decor and cleanliness (or lack thereof) the minute we stepped in the door, I have no idea what this place is trying to be, it feels like some cheap themed restaurant you'd find in a run down theme park and the theming is more reminiscent of a Cajun/Creole spot than Mexican. The floors were dirty and littered with chips and pieces of food, the menus looked and felt like they hadn't been washed in years, and don't get me started on the smell, sewage masked by bleach. It was just so disgustingly uncomfortable. I would have walked right out if the people I had been with hadn't picked the spot. The service was awful, it took 20 minutes for someone to come take our order and the food took forever to arrive. Our server didn't check in once during the meal and eventually we had to flag someone down for the check after sitting there for what felt like hours. The food was terrible, it looked bad and tasted worse, my fajitas were so dry, the salsa was a watery mess, and the beans were vomit inducing. I ate a couple bites so as not to be awkward and then gave up and stopped at chick fil a on the way home. I've never felt so gross just sitting in a restaurant, and I haven't been so repulsed by my food possibly ever. I don't know why I didn't come here when I lived in Colorado. I knew about it when I lived here through my coworkers who said it was an excellent place to go to. I suppose part of the reason for it is that Lafayette was usually not on my way to work and we usually just took the Interstate when we wanted to play in Denver but after being very impressed by the food I kind of regret not coming here sooner...but better later than never, right? At Efrain's I got their Chile Relleno plate which was outstanding! The preparation of the chili's was very masterful and simply delicious! The cooks definitely know what they are doing here and how to make great, authentic Colorado Mexican food! After dinner Steve and I shared a flan which was equally fantastic! Plain and simple I have absolutely zero complaints about Efrain's and whenever the opportunity arrives and I am even remotely close...or not so remotely close to Louisville I WILL make a point to come here to have another meal! read more

A fun, little Mexican place in downtown Lafayette. We stopped in for margaritas at noon on a Saturday, and sat on the front patio. We had pleasantly strong house margs, and the guacamole salad, which was served with fresh tomatoes and lettuce. As a displaced Coloradoan, I particularly enjoyed the smooth, blended salsa rojo common in this area. This place isn't fancy, but it's perfect to satisfy your marg/chip fix. Enjoy! read more

I really hate doing this but look at the picture the fact they charge for a refill for my 10-year-old daughters drink is unacceptable. Believe it or not my 10-year-old daughter asked if the red sauce was spicy and the server said "spicy is relative." Went to Efrain's earlier this week for the first time. Sat on the lovely patio, and had very prompt, friendly and good service. I really liked my blue corn layered, flat style cheese enchiladas. This place is my favorite Mexican establishment in the front range. Their prices are so reasonable and you get a ton of food for what you pay. I always get an Efrain burrito or a beef chimichanga. The green chili is fantastic and a bit different each time which I love! The servers are all sweet and helpful. Chips are perfectly crispy and warm, and the salsa is delicious. I got the Mondongo plate. It was beef and onions sautéed in wine with refried beans and rice. It was a giant plate of juice. Like soup. Over the refried beans! We love Efrains and have eaten there for years. Tonight they had someone call out, so the service was horrible. We waited 30 minutes for our margaritas and reminded our waiter twice and finally had to tell a second waiter. We had our food before our margaritas. Then when the waiter was cleaning the table next to ours he placed dirty dishes on our table. When he came to see if we wanted dessert, we reminded him we were waiting for our to go order. He said he would go get it, and we still has to wait; I think he forgot to put the order in. I could have forgiven all of that, but when I told the manager all I got was excuses. No apology and never asked how it could be made right. I wouldn't have accepted anything, just being acknowledged would have been enough. My husband is so mad he never wants to go back. read more

Efrain's Chile verde is not to be overlooked, it always packs a flavor filled punch. I find it fun to order a bunch of plates and convince everyone seated around the table to dig in, family style, as it's hard to just pick one thing off the menu. My wife and I recently moved from San Jose, and were looking for some good old fashioned Mexican food. We found Efrain's and we're really pleased. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. The only recommendation I would make to the owner would be to play a little Latin music in the background. We have gone into one too many restaurants since getting to Colorado that had no music playing and as a result had very odd atmosphere. A little music covers the conversation around you and makes for a better dining experience. Not to mention, I love listening to a little mariachi when I go into a good Mexican restaurant! This place is amazing, and if you are freaked out by unconventional use of space (e.g., printer in the bathroom, chips in hallway) then you should probably eat at a local Chilis restaurant and enjoy your whitewashed Mexican wannabe food. Where do I start? The salsa....no flavor, no spice. It's the most bland salsa I've ever had (next to Taco Wagon). Service. Slow. Very slow. Unless we sit at the bar, we are basically ignored. Margaritas are delicious. The food was great, slightly more spicy than a typical Mexican restaurant in the USA but great flavor. The menu has a nice "heat guide" that will help you make a choice fitting your taste. The service is excellent but the kitchen is a bit slow. I understood that there was a big party on the night we visited but our orders were nothing special and should have come out faster than the 45 minutes it took. So, with that one low point, this place is worth a shot, just let Yelper's know if that slow kitchen has speeded up at all. Nope, nope, nope When the food looks exactly like it does on the stock menu photos - diners beware. Nothing special about this place. I remember this place 10 years and it was so much better. Seriously bland choices and little menu choices. Prices are really to high for no basics like lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream for a 10.00 burrito. A 3.00 kids quesadilla with microwaved (not even grilled) cheese on top of a small tortilla is worse than taco bell. I recommend finding a way better tasting Mexican food and much better service somewhere else. Sorry but place is in need of a new chef who knows putting one black olive is not good garnish or useful. This places needs to get it together with faster/friendlier service, more menu choices, and much better flavors. read more

Efrains is an outstanding example of authentic Mexican food that probably came out of some guy's family. The food is rich, spicy and extremely flavorful- and also REALLY hot. I order cheese and onion enchiladas with a fried egg on top, and a little sour cream. Awesome. The tacos are also very good, but if you get it in any kind of combo, ask them to put it on the side. The flautitas with guacamole are a nice appetizer treat. This place is utterly packed to the gills on nights and weekends. read more

Efrain's is always something I crave, but one dish in particular: the costillas. Fall-off-the-bone pork ribs served piping hot smothered in their spicy but addictive green chili. You can see the seeds still hanging around, so proceed with caution! The ribs are served with potatoes (like your typical breakfast ones) and refried beans covered in cheese. Of course everything is covered in the green chili, so if you can't handle their hottest level of spice then this isn't for you. The reason they only received four stars instead of five is because the service was lacking and the kitchen was a bit slow, even for a Friday night. Nothing I have ever eaten has made me more violently ill. The staff was nice enough, but it wasn't worth it.

Service was prompt and gruff. Server and Busboy were hard working and brought the extra lemons I requested. I half expected my server to breakout into a tirade of Spanish and play the make Visitor Culturally Submissive card. My Chili Verde burrito was OK. I did eat the entire thing. The sauce was tasty, the burrito was entirely beans, and not the best beans ever, like at Miguel Jrs in California. I think rice and veggies could step this up. The Chili Verde was moderately overcooked (probably from sitting too warm over a day or two) and not exactly the tender and juicy as advertised in the menu. The Green Chile sauce was watery and one dimensional. Tasty yet I'm not impressed about the Chili Verde burrito. Fiesta Jalisco in Avon knows how to make a rocking Verde Burrito. This Efrain's does have a shaded outdoor porch for outside summer dining. This is not my first time eating here. I remember this Efrain's Restaurant being a lot better a few years ago. read more

Disappointed....when we walked in there was no urgency to greet or seat us. The food was really disappointing. Nothing we ordered was fantastic. The kids quesadilla is cheese sprinkled on top on ONE tortilla- it is not a quesadilla. Service was hit or miss. We would not go back here. There is several other superb restaurants in this area and this place is 20 years behind with no urgency to provide a good experience or quality food. read more

The House Efrain's Burrito is absolutely top notch! It's ingredients can change, but usually contains a mix of most everything you could want. The green chili can be quite hot, so I usually get the half and half. It's big burrito which makes nice left overs for the next day. Not the cleanest or most chic place, but I recommend trying. read more
