    $25 ??? Seriously?
    Pony L.

One star because of the awful experience at Teocalli in Lafayette. It's a very noisy place, but we decided to try it anyway, which turned out to be a mistake. My friend ordered an enchilada, and I ordered the carne asada. The place was half empty, so it was strange that our food took more than 30 minutes to arrive after we ordered. They had only a few servers working, and the fact that we only saw our waiter run by once or twice in that 30-minute wait for our food was not helpful. As time passed, I looked for wait staff to ask about my food, but I couldn't find any as none passed our way. The food was dropped at the table, and I got the impression that they were kitchen staff who dropped the plates and quickly ran off. My first impression of the food was shock, thinking, "They charge $25 for that tiny plate? You gotta be kidding me." The presentation was okay, but as you can see from the pic, the overpriced meal only covered a tiny portion of the undersized plate. It left a lot to be desired. Since our waiter was nowhere in sight, I had to go up to the bar to ask for salt. With my first bite, I found the potatoes cold, possibly because my food had been sitting around for quite some time. Sadly, after cutting into my supposed-to-be-medium-and-pink carne asada, it was cooked dry to shoe leather and inedible. It was disgusting. I grabbed a passing waiter and asked him to send my waiter over. He offered to help me, so I explained to him that this was disgusting and not what I ordered. He did offer to make me a new one, but after waiting 30+ minutes for my food and being served this, I lost my appetite. Yes, they took it off the bill, but still charged $3 for a Coke. Real classy. I enjoy fine dining and excellent cuisine, but to call this fine dining would be an insult to fine dining. Do better, Teocalli

This is a really cute little Mexican spot down in the downtown area, but be prepared because seating is very limited. If you go on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, expect a wait. Ours was about 45 minutes. They ended up seating us at a shared high-top table with another couple, which honestly wasn't a big deal. For appetizers, I ordered the shishito peppers with this orange marmalade-style dipping sauce, and WOW -- those were phenomenal. The peppers were fried perfectly with just the right crispiness and a little salt, and that sweet orange sauce paired with them so well. Definitely one of the best things we ordered. My friends also got queso, salsa, and ceviche. The ceviche was fresh and delicious, but the salsa was way too hot for me personally. I took one bite and couldn't handle another. For my entrée, I ordered the carne asada, and unfortunately it just was not what I expected. Instead of the thinner, flavorful steak I'm used to, it was a thick chunk of meat that was really chewy, fatty, and honestly lacked flavor. It just didn't work for me at all. The rice and beans were decent though, so no complaints there. The service was okay, but our server definitely seemed overwhelmed or maybe just uninterested. We often didn't see her for long stretches of time, so when she did come by, we had multiple things to ask for. It kind of felt like we were a burden anytime we needed something, which put a little damper on the experience. Overall, I'd probably give this place a 6/10. There were definitely some highlights, especially the appetizers and the atmosphere, and I'd still be willing to go back and try something different because I don't want one disappointing entrée to completely ruin the place for me.

Great flavors (esp. salsas), great value - especially during happy hour - and tons of variety on their menu. Super busy place, though, definitely make a reservation if it's the weekend, even if you're early.

This place was a bit overpriced for being just okay. Taco insides and chips & guac (fresh chips especially good) were really tasty, though the tortilla for the tacos was kinda dry. Ceviche was just okay. The food took a long while for us, also there were a lot of flies around which was annoying and not the most appetizing environment.

Wait whaaat? Killer place. Went to an art show and was referred here. What a treat! Great service. Relaxed lunch with my bud, chatting over perfectly prepared meals. Fresh fresh fresh. Unique flavors. Very happy Loved the vibe of the atmosphere

My parents and I came out to dinner here for the first time last night, and we all had a great time. Our server was wonderful and super duper attentive, and all of the food we had was all great. The churros were especially good! I definitely recommend this place.

Every time we come to Lafayette we make sure to come to Teocalli. Love that we can make reservations because it's always so busy. Love the decor and the servers (ours was Tyler) do a fantastic job, really making us feel appreciated. We enjoyed a couple special cocktails, had the salsa trio and guacamole as starters. We then sampled the Pasole Verde, kale salad and quesadillas. All were amazing. This is definitely a repeater for us. Keep up the great work guys and gals!!

Food: I had the fingerling potatoes, queso fundito, and chips and guac. All were excellent for starters. I highly recommend the queso fundito it is mindblowing. I also had the carne asade, and avocado tempura tacos with rice and beans. The rice and beans were good, but nothing interesting about them. The avocado tempura was uniquely delicious, I've never had anything like it. The carne asade taco was HEAVENNN, the meat was perfectly cooked and the sauce had a great flavor. Service: The waiters are nice here and the food came out pretty quick considering how busy they are. Ambience: I like the seating area near the street and the interior is nice. Overall: A yummy gourmet Mexican restaurant here in Lafayette! I think the prices are a little high but most are reasonable for a delicious meal.

*CELIAC / GLUTEN FREE REVIEW a dedicated GF kitchen is always a joy! We started with the salsa trio: macha, roasted tomatillo, and the X-Ni-Pex. I loved all but the tomatillo - so so good; our chips were a little stale unfortunately but the salsa made up for it. for main dishes, we got some tacos and the pork shank pibil. For tacos, we got the de birria Tijuana style (the consomé was a bit watery for my taste), the pork belly (my favorite, very good), and the taco de chicken (unfortunately very underwhelming.) the pork shank was DELICIOUS! we HAD to try the GF churros - they were fun to have again as a celiac, but they are a little heavier than the traditional light, fluffy taste. The dips were just okay. I did not get sick and highly reccomend a reservation if you do decide to go - it was packed on a Thursday night!

This is a frequently visited restaurant when I'm meeting friends or my husband after work. It has outdoor and indoor seating and the staff always greets you with a welcoming smile. I try to make a reservation as it's a busy place but Thursday night my husband and decided to go at the last minute since we were both in Lafayette. We were seated at a community table in the sunny room off the main dining room. It's a lovely space if you can't be outside. I always get tacos and wanted to try the suizas enchiladas with chicken. It is the only meal I've had there that I wouldn't order again. While the serving was generous and the enchiladas were packed with chicken, it was a bit dry even smothered in the delicious sauce. The shrimp tacos and tuna on lettuce that my husband had were amazing so I will stick with my usual (the Tijuana style shrimp tacos) and now add the tuna to my list! I always enjoy the coin margaritas as well.

I have reviewed this before. Margaritas are fabulous! Tacos are fabulous! Soups are fabulous! Chicken is fabulous! Love it here! Suggest reservation! Everyone seems to agree that this is fabulous! It is our go to!

Very good tacos on the main street. I like the outdoor space, as the inside can get a little loud when it is busy. Great selection of tacos -- try the seasonal specials -- and cocktails!

I like that the menu is constantly changing, so I can always try something new. There are usually a few staples, too. The tacos are priced reasonably so you can try several flavors. Every now and then there's one I don't like as much as the others, but that doesn't ruin the experience. The ramen is priced well for the amount you get, too. The only thing I consistently haven't liked is their guacamole. But I do like their avocado and salsas. They have a decent happy hour and, recently added, a "taco Tuesday." The kids menu options are pretty good, too. The hot dogs are a hit. Sometimes the buttered noodles are, too. The tiki drinks are great fun, and they're always trying something new. In the past, they've put lemonades in fun cups (like the hedgehog cup) so our kids can enjoy a "fancy drink." The service is pretty fast and consistent. They bring you a nice jug of water to help yourself with refills.

So it was shocking that I found such a good bowl out here in Erie. I got the Hellfire Ramen, a tonkotsu-based ramen served with their house spicy sauce, chili oil, pork shoulder, and a soft boiled egg. The broth was rich and flavorful, the spice level was perfect (quiet hot but still maintaining a good balance of flavors), and the pork shoulder was tender but still has a bit of nice toothsomeness. Overall, this was an excellent bowl of ramen comparable to any of the top spots in Denver. The only slight downside is that the broth was just a tough too salty for my liking, and I would've preferred a soy marinated egg over a soft boiled egg. They have other ramen here was well, such as a chicken-based shio ramen, a regular tonkotsu, and a Thai curry ramen. I definitely would return to try the other ramen. If the other items on this menu is as tasty, I wouldn't hesitate to give them 5 stars.

In some pictures online, it's shown with tomatoes, lettuce & sour cream, but noticed when ordering, below it says, you've to pay extra for tomatoes $1.00; lettuce $1.03; and sour cream $1.55. Lady on phone is kind enough to make an inquiry (it's not an option) to exchange coleslaw for lettuce, In the end, I paid for tomatoes $1.00, exchanged Cole slaw for lettuce and no sour cream, subtotal $17.02; added taxes & fees, equals $21.06. It's been lengthy time since we've returned. After, my last review, I'd place orders & it would be intentionally made spicy, added coleslaw (even mixed into) enchiladas. And, someone would ensure my meal wasn't to my liking and left me unable to consume. However, it's been some years ago, soon after their opening and they're aware, I don't eat spicy foods. I'm disabled, stuck to home & my husband is my sole caregiver. He doesn't cook, did his best to provide, which means utilizing what surrounds us. At least on this day, at this time. Chad and I got to the restaurant around 1:15 PM yesterday. There weren't many people at the establishment, maybe one other party inside and one outside. We were greeted fairly quickly and were seated by a lovely woman. She was very helpful and answered all of our questions about the menu, and was quick to give recommendations. We started with chips and salsa, and I ordered a Skinny Margarita. Yes, it's a little out of the ordinary to charge for chips and salsa, but I thought both were amazing. The salsa was fresh and really tasty (and tasted nothing like ketchup, which I despise). I've had a lot of horrible salsas; this was not horrible at all, and neither were the chips, crunchy and delicious, imo. The skinny margarita, which was $14, was huge and actually worth the cost. The lovely waitress gave me the Happy Hour cost of the margarita ($10) since we were paying right about when HH started (2 PM). Chad noticed that they had a Cheese Crispi (or just Cheese Crisp as we AZ folks like to call it), but we were pretty hungry and really just wanted meals. I got the Vegetarian Burrito and asked that it be smothered with the sour cream cheese sauce that I saw on another vegetarian dish, the Chimichanga de Hongos. I'm sure I put on a few pounds from that sauce alone, and it was 100% worth it! The entire dish was SO GOOD! Chad got the Expresso Burrito and couldn't even finish the whole thing, not for want of trying, though. I don't know if we had the good luck to come at a good/slow time, and that's why we had such a wonderful experience, but I almost felt like I was at a totally different restaurant than the one being reviewed here. When we are in the area again, Chad and I will definitely be visiting Fuego Azteca again and trying out the Cheese Crispi and the Deep Fried Ice Cream!
