Our 12 year old Navien tankless water heater stopped working this early afternoon with Error Code 38E (likely a bad recirculation pump per the manual). We had used Efficient Water Heaters a little over 6 years ago to the fix the same Navien unit to replace a faulty part which was covered by the product warranty at the time. The service was great last time so I had no hesitation in calling them again. Joseph arrived within an hour and was able to diagnose the problem as likely the recirculation pump. Since the unit is very old, he advised to replace the water heater with a new one as opposed to replacing the pump. He did note that similar Navien units in my development had recently failed completely and required replacement. So certainly my unit is nearing end of life. As a last resort, Joseph was able to call Navien and find a way to bypass the recirculation pump through the main controller circuit board. The unit is now serving hot water with the caveat that it may take a few minutes for hot water to appear at the third story floor shower/sinks/tub. This was the best scenario for us as the hot water is now working with only the cost of service/inspection fee (and us waiting a few extra minutes for hot water to appear). Understood the unit may only have a limited time before something else fails but at least we can plan/budget for the replacement when that has to happen. I really appreciated the quick response and honest assessment. We will certainly call them back when the need arises! read more

The only good about this company - they arrived on time. When technician said that thermocouple need to be replaced, I was expecting the professional service. Unfortunately, it was not a case: they did not use proper part and broke the gasket. So now it is not safe to operate (thermocouple does not stay fit and can be moved out of place easily). Unfortunately, it comes to a point where I must prepare future customers, so they don't have to experience the poor service that I received from this company. I have attached all my communications with Joseph (owner) and his colleague Omar who did the water heater installation. Here is what to watch out for: - He never sent me any contract or agreements prior to the service, I asked for it multiple times. - Joseph said Omar never went into the house to install the water heater, but from my photos, the water heater was inside the house. - Omar asked my tenant if he should look at the faucets, so not knowing he would take off the faucet head...Omar went ahead and detached my new kitchen faucet, then was not able to put it back on...so wrote out that there were faulty issues with the faucet after he took it off. This was when he wrote out the receipt/issues on the attached pic. They both blame it on my galvanized plumbing even though it was a brand new faucet and there were no issues with it prior to the water heater installation.  They said they were not responsible for clog fixtures and plumbing, which is not what the issue was. Omar removed the head of the kitchen faucet and was not able to put it back...so he wrote it as the issue on the receipt. - He then blamed me for not reading the contract, even though there was no prior contract or agreement sent to me. - Joseph decided to block me from his messages, then not responding to my inquiry of my water heater warranty, only installed a few days ago. - At the end of the day, I gave them the instructions to go into the house, but then they blamed my tenant and I for asking them to touch the kitchen faucet. We wouldn't ask them to touch any areas that were not having issues. They had been taking instructions from me from the very beginning, then blamed my tenant for this. In summary, this company picks and chooses on what to respond to then blocks whoever complains about their service. I can see why they received a 1 out of 5 star rating on BBB.org. He even deleted his BBB profile after I tried adding a complaint but I did take down the previous complaints that were in line with the type of service that I received as well. (attached for future reference) I am not sure if they will stand by their warranty of my water heater since he blocked my number after I made my complaint over the phone. I wasn't bombarding him with calls, I only spoke to him one time and he decided that he didn't want to hear it anymore. It's too bad that he has to deal with his customers like this. I scheduled an appointment with this owner. I had to confirm the warranty documents 2-3 times for the new water heater, we need the warranty documents in case there is problem later on. The owner said I will give you receipt and invoice. He has never confirmed warranty documents. And he thought I didn't understand he was talking about, blamed for language barrier and said I asked for 10 times of warranty documents. But the fact is I only asked for 2-3 times. And I am spending almost $4k cash, of course I need the warranty documents!! Receipt and invoice are not warranty documents. A lot of people in the area are not native speakers, this owner is the only one contractor in the area didn't explain things twice and got upset so easily. He hang up the phone in the middle of the conversation when I said other contractors are nicer. Overall, this owner is rude and irrespective. It is good he denied the service as I don't want to communicate with this kind of people during the service and after the service. I don't recommend this contractor. I hope people won't go to him. You will never expect what attitude you get. All customers should be all be treated with respect. This is the first rule of business! This person won't give you that, stay away!! No emergency, just needed a routine maintenance on a tankless rinnai water heater. They were able to get me in fast, great response time and communication. Our tech came out and flushed system which really wasn't needed but we had problems w our water softener prior and just needed to make sure nothing was clogged or built up. He said no, and rescheduled me to Sunday morning 8am, at 8:05 he texted me again he will be here close to 10am. These guys were amazing. Story: my girlfriend woke me up this morning to tell me we had no hot water. I went to the water heater outside to see if the pilot was out, and found water everywhere. I checked the usual suspects for the source of the leak, but all the places it should/could of leaked were bone dry. So I turned off the water supply, took off the front brackets where the pilot is, turned the water back on and found that the water was gushing out of a rusted out spot under the tank. Boooo. I called around and got in touch with these guys. They responded quickly to me on yelp. I knew replacing the unit would be expensive. And initially had a bit of sticker shock when they quoted me. But when others came in with quotes they were all $600-700 more expensive. These guys had the best price, they were to my house in a couple hours, and job was done in a little more than one. Edit 1: Looks like he does not understand what "out of the door price" means, nor "agreed upon price." Instead of helping improve his service, he spends all his time arguing and belittling his dissatisfied customers (just look at his responses to all the 1 star reviews!). If he charges $150 for a $20 drain pan and a piece of plywood, for the "extra little things" on top of his "out of the door price," then it's the textbook price gouging! Further more he sent me a private message (screenshot attached). For all I can tell he's telling me that he won't fulfill his legal obligations for providing the standard 6-year warranty and 1 year labor services that he signed upon finishing the job. If it becomes clear that he installed a substandard water heater or/and shoddy workmanship that causes problems down the road, I can sue him in the court of the law without every need to hire a lawyer. It proves his intention to defraud his customer just two days after the work! -- End of Edit 1 -- My water heater was leaking so I checked with Yelp and found this business and asked Joseph to give me a quote for a replacement. He gave me a quote of $1700 "out of the door price." No other questions were asked. I compared a few other quotes and his bid was the lowest, so I decided to go with it. The next day he sent a tech to the property and the installer told me that the wood plank on the platform was rotting and needed to be replaced. Also a water collection pan should be placed under the new heater and they cost a whopping $150 extra! I then tried to call Joseph but he wasn't picking up the call, so I texted him and inquired why a piece of wood plank and a plastic pan would cost so much and if he could give me a discount, maybe for a total of $1800? That's when he became nasty and told me that I should pay for the "agreed price." I politely pointed out that since he never mentioned ANYTHING extra in our initial conversation the only "agreed upon price" was the $1700 he quoted me. He then gave a bunch of explanations as to why the additional was needed but failed to address the question of what was the "agreed price." At one point he started to blame me for calling his number because it was only for "initial conversations to get the job started." Since this was the only number he gives out, how else was I supposed to contact him? In the end I paid him the whole $1850 but it left a sour taste in my mouth. This seems a lot like a bait-and-switch operation, give a low quote but get it back by charging an exorbitant "extra" cost. Even at this point all he needed to do was to say no he couldn't give me the discount, and that would have been the end of the conversation, but like what he's shown with other customers here, his natural instinct is to display his contempt for dissatisfied customers. The bottom line is, when a major appliance in your home fails, it's a very stressful time. If you don't want to add to your stress and dealing with rude people, go call someone else. I have the proof of what I mentioned here and I'm going to explain those 2 points in details below. As on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 I described to him about the problem with my AO Smith water heater. He set up the appointment for the next day between 9 and 11AM (12/27/23) for one of his employees to look at it. He mentioned all about $85 service fee after he said to text him my address. He also mentioned about the replacing parts that are still under warranty(gas control valve and burner), but he had to charge me for the labor which was $400. when I asked him if he had the parts, he said, "we carry those parts, but he needed to diagnose it first. That is NOT true. He did not have them. The next day, he asked me my full name and address and he said that he needed them for returning parts. A few minutes later, he asked me the model number. And he said he is working on getting those parts (This shows he was not telling me the true.). About 1 hr later, he called me and told me the water heater is out of warranty and I need to pay for the parts on top of the labor and the total now it $747. He said that was a mistake was done by his terminated employee. I also agree with those who provided reviews--Joseph's behavior was completely unacceptable and unprofessional. Please don't hire a company which does not take responsibility for their actions. They broke my perfectly working Kohler kitchen faucet and said they are not responsible for breaking "old fixtures". Hello, welcome to bay area where every home is built in 2021! I contacted Joseph to descale and fix our tankless water heater which was not producing hot water sometimes. Omar, the technician, cleaned the igniter on his first visit and suggested me to replace the igniter part. He quoted me $475 ($275 to replace the filter and $200 to descale, it was a 30 min job) which is expensive as the replacement part was less than $40 but I agreed to pay for it. It was my cue to run away from them, but I didn't and I regret it. Omar, on his second visit replaced the part and descaled the heater. They used some chemical ,CLR, to descale the heater which pushed the sediments of descaling down to all the faucets clogging them. Omar had to open all the faucets to unclog them. He didn't know how to open our Kohler Vinnata kitchen faucet, which later I found was a simple rotate thing, and broke it when he used force to open it in a hurry. The replacement part is around $200. I contacted Joseph to fix the damage, his reponse was "Once again he had informed you that it was an old fixture and it was clogged. If it was easy you could've opened it up yourself. We are not responsible for old fixtures" Dude really? it was clogged because of the chemical you used to descale. You are the professional who I paid a premium to hire. Your technician, Omar, could have simply denied to unclog if he was so unsure instead of trying to open it with force in a hurry. I would have called a qualified plumber or figured it out myself. Joseph ,the owner, is a rude individual. I had to follow up with him multiple times to get the service scheduled after paying upfront. He even blamed me for not following up for the replacement. I find this very amusing as he should be the one contacting me to schedule the service once the replacement part is ready. He rescheduled my job multiple times, at one point even suggested not to replace the part after ordering it. Why did he make me order a new part if he wasn't sure if replacement was needed in the first place ? Shady practice to extract money from home owners They don't even clean up after they finish the job. Omar on his second visit did not even close my attic vent after the work. Probalby he knew he screwed up breaking the faucet and rushed off. Posted all the screenshots of my conversation with him and the invoices as proof. TLDR: Run away from this rude, irresponsible, incompetent business. Dont spend your time or money to get your property damaged. EDIT: Response to Owner' reply: First of all the faucets got clogged because of your descaling process with clr not vinegar. You didn't mention anything that descaling would lead to clogged faucets. Had you told me about this possibility, I wouldnt have gone with you. I had a different company do descaling with vinegar before and it never clogged my faucets. If your process of descaling clogs the faucets then you should inform the owners before. Why would anyone pay you to get more problems? Your employee never said anything that he doesnt know how to open the faucet and that he is not responsible if something happens. No one in their right mind would still ask him to work on it. The sprayer was working fine even with the clog. Please learn how to RESPECT your customers. Nobody wants free money. All I asked for is to take responsibility for your shoddy work. read more

I had a disappointing experience with "Efficient Water Heaters." I hired them to replace my existing water heater, which is of the "Navien" brand, with a newer model 210 A2. I was convinced as they claim to be listed on the Navien website, regardless of a RED flag; when they asked to pay a lower service amount in cash. Finally, we settled on the higher service price and paid using a check. They promised to replace the parts (As mentioned in the text from them below), but they failed to deliver on that promise. Here's the text conversation from them: "It Includes a new water heater, installation, and disposal of the old tank." When I noticed that they installed the new water heater, did not replace the tank as promised, and asked politely to rectify the situation, they became confrontational. What a catch! Decided to replace old water heater with a tankless one. After getting multiple quotes and estimates decided to go with Joseph and very happy about it. First of all, he provided quote online after looking at photos. Second, when he visited for a first time I asked to do some extra plumbing work and he agreed for a very little extra. He and Roy came on the exact time we agreed, and you could see that they enjoy doing what they do. They had to return the next day to finish that extra work I requested, they did it on Saturday as we agreed. Everything was installed professionally and it works perfectly after a month of using it. They came right away which was awesome. Especially on a weekend. They came, fixed one problem (leaking hose), asked for cash - done quickly. I was happy... BUT they didn't check that heater water actually working, came back a second time, charged a bunch that had to be on credit card. I was away during weekend and was clear about not having reception and then first weekday came and I started getting texts about "taking action" if I didn't pay. Very threatening for no reason. All I asked was for an email invoice to help make sure I could pay promptly and on time and no email was sent. When the hot water stopped working in our home I messaged roughly 7 providers in my area to see who could repair our water heater for the best price.
