My friend and I stumbled upon this cozy hole-in-the wall Japanese restaurant while looking for a place for dinner after a day of shopping nearby and we were so glad we stopped by! 4/5 FOOD/DRINK If you're craving Japanese food on a budget, this is your place! I think the best way to describe their food is that it's simple and no-frills--if you're looking for fancy high quality Japanese restaurant food, then this place isn't it, but if you just want simple, home-style Japanese food then I would recommend this place! The portions are incredibly generous and the prices are shockingly very affordable--I was able to order an entree and sushi roll for under $25! I had the udon combo which included a plain bowl of udon noodles, 2 pieces of shrimp tempura, and 4 pieces of California roll all for just $9.99. Most of their sushi rolls are under $10. I also ordered one of their sushi combo sets to go and the sashimi to rice ratio was very generous. The menu has a wide variety of items to choose from, ranging from various appetizers, sushi, sashimi, noodles, rice bowls, bento boxes, and fried rice dishes so if you're in the mood for Japanese food but aren't sure what to have, there's plenty offered and you're bound to find something that suits your craving! Of note, I did not see any "specialty" drinks on the menu and it seems that the only drinks available for purchase are the ones in the refrigerator next to the counter (ie. packaged/bottled drinks only). There is a free self serve water station which includes a portable ice cube maker and the water tasted fine. 5/5 AMBIENCE My friend and I showed up around 7 pm on a Saturday and were the only ones dining in for the ~1.5 hours that we were in the restaurant. Again, the restaurant is very much a hole-in-the-wall small place but was clean (including the bathroom) and had a cozy ambience. Even though we were the only diners, there was a steady stream of people coming in and out to pick up carryout orders. 5/5 SERVICE This place is self seating and you go up to the counter when you are ready to order (menus are available at the counter which you can take and bring back to your seat to view). Payment is up front at the time of placing your order. Staff were all very friendly and service time was appropriate. 5/5 PARKING Since the restaurant is located within the strip mall, there's plenty of free parking nearby, although parking immediately in front of the restaurant can be limited since they are located near the tail end of the strip mall. read more

I don't usually leave reviews, but the way I was treated here was absolutely unacceptable. I came in for sushi and ordered two rolls. The first was good, so I decided to try another -- the Spicy Rainbow Roll. When it came out, it was clearly missing the avocado and salmon, which are standard for that roll. I politely mentioned it to the owner, and instead of handling it professionally, he rolled his eyes at me. Then, to make things worse, the cashier literally yelled at me in front of other customers, insisting I ordered the Spicy Tuna. Even if it had been a mix-up, I wouldn't have minded paying the difference -- it's not about the money. It's about how poorly this situation was handled. I know what I ordered, and being treated like I'm in the wrong for pointing out a mistake is not okay. There's zero excuse for staff to be rude, condescending, and dismissive over something so small. This quite possibly might be the worst sushi place I've ever been to. And trust me, I've been to a lot. Maybe this is just as good as it gets in Texas but I cannot believe that this place has a four star rating. If I could've given it negative stars I would have. One positive is that the service was kind and prompt. After that, it's all downhill. When I first walked in, I went to the restroom and almost threw up as soon as I walked in there. I'm not sure if they had a broken sewer line in there or if they're stuffing fish bones in the trashcan, but it literally smelled like death in the bathroom. And no, somebody was not just in there right before me. We ordered a couple rolls, a couple pieces of sushi, a hand roll, and a beef teriyaki bowl. The beef teriyaki bowl, which was simply a few cubes of beef, for which type of cut I could not identify, but clearly must've been from either a shank or stew meat because it was literally like chewing bubblegum. The sushi cut was small and extremely bland. The rice was cold as well. The rolls were small and over saturated with avocado, which I normally don't mind, but it was overpowering everything else. And finally, to top it all off, the spicy tuna hand roll fish color was brown. I have never seen spicy tuna this color. I was afraid to eat it and I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that I don't catch a parasite. No disrespect to Texas sushi eaters but if you all thought this place was worthy of 4 stars, you have no idea what real sushi is supposed to look and taste like. read more

I have been to Edohana a couple of times and they never disappoint! I was happy to be back after being away for a couple of months due to Covid! They are limiting the amount of tables they can use in order to practice social distancing. They take your order at the register and you pay right away to avoid any more time spent in front of each other. They do sanitize the tables and sauce bottles in between each customer. When it comes to the sushi- I always grab my go to- the temptation roll! It NEVER disappoints. If you like calamari, I recommend their calamari roll. My friends and I have been long-time customers of this restaurant. However, our orders have been mostly take out. Yesterday, we decided to dine in. Big mistake! The owner is always in a grumpy mood; it's assumed she's just not friendly. But in my hour of observation, I noticed she was smiling at all her other customers-- just not the obviously Muslim ones. My doubts were confirmed when my friend took to a corner to perform a 2 min silent prayer (when the restaurant was completely empty of customers close to closing time). She jumped up and started yelling "she can't do that." She continued to cause a fuss, most of which we could not understand. We paid and left immediately. I think I found my new favorite sushi spot! Since moving to Dallas 8 months ago I've tried several places but most were either overpriced or the taste was lacking. This place is quant and they have photos of the rolls available on the wall. This is a nice touch so for people like me who sometimes wants to see what it looks like before it's prepared. There were only a few people inside eating when I visited so it was kind of quiet and the people working there didn't engage in much conversation. That didn't bother me though and I was just on my phone while I waited. It took about 15 minutes for the entire service time. *Note that I did order two fried rolls* I got the On the Border Roll & Salmon Tempura Roll and brought them home with me. Both were delicious but I think I preferred on the border more. I did save the salmon roll till the following day for lunch simply because eating one roll was filling enough. What a great little find. We were on our way to a concert in Arlington and were craving sushi. Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The restaurant is small on the inside. We visited on a Friday evening and there was enough seating for the crowd. Service was friendly and ordering was simple. I tried a taro milk tea, Hulk roll and Louisiana roll. All items were delicious. The only negative feedback I have (and it is really not a negative thing when I think about it) is that the sushi rolls were so large that when I tried to pick it up with my chopsticks they would crumble into small pieces making the whole process a bit messy. I ordered the miami roll, another roll (cannot remember) and the chicken fried rice with the intention of having enough to eat for dinner as well. The fried rice was not good at all - I threw that out after a few bites. It tasted dry and just had no flavor to me. The miami roll was alright but nothing blew my mind here. Okay, so best sushi in Dallas? Not really. Best deal in Dallas?? Probably!! D Magazine should do a best deals list and this place should be right on top. I only saw one or two rolls over $8 and their ahi tuna tower is just under $9 and is amazing and so filling! I've seen really small towers before for more money and I was worried the prices meant either bad sushi or small portions. Neither is true! The ahi tower was so fresh and mixed with these four sauces that added so many depths to the flavors. One of them was a little spicy which made it like a spicy tuna roll(my favorite!). This is a great spot for lunch when your in the mood for sushi. They have pictures of their popular rolls so it helps to decide since you need to order before you grab a table. I have tried the temptation roll and crunchy salmon roll and both tasted fresh and delicious. The service is almost non existence as they have a drinking station to serve yourself with sides, plates, and utensils. The teriyaki chicken had a hard texture and also reeked in my mouth. The sauce was really boring. Just slightly salty and sweet with no depth to it. The salad was drenched in this awful orange goop. Decided to try this place after our usual place was closed for the MLK holiday. Upon entering we were greeted with a smile and shown where the menus are. We didn't realize it is more of a fast food sushi place, but it didn't change the experience. Everyone was very nice and the place is clean. The rolls are reasonably priced and you get a lot for your money. It was just my fiance and I so we ordered 3 rolls - Green Hulk, Mason Roll and Passion Roll.
