EDO
Cathy C.

I absolutely had a wonderful time and meal at Edo - my first meal while I was in Belfast. There's a lot of restaurant options within walking distance from my hotel including Edo. I made reservations online a month prior to coming here which was a good idea as this place gets busy. They use European ingredients to serve the most delectable tapas and entrees. Spanish cuisine is one of my favorites! They have pan con tomate, marcona almonds, Pimientos de Padrón, olives, chorizo, croquetas, soft shell crab, Spanish tortilla, chicken wings, paella, steak, salmon, chicken, etc. They have desserts such as Crema Catalana, Panna Cotta, polenta Cake, affogato, chocolate tart, and cheeseboard. I got seated by the window at a table for 4 - and it was just me, myself, and I + my giant appetite - so a huge table was perfect! All of their tapas seem so delicious but I had to limit myself to only a few items since it was close to bedtime when I went here (and I had to start my day super early the next day). I was conflicted. Everything I wanted at that moment were all pork and I felt like I need a variety. The server was nice enough to give recommendations but in the end, I focused on my favorite things: chicharron, and Jamon Iberico. For my entree, I got the Pork Steak. And to sweeten the ending, I got churros for dessert. I savored every bite. Let the Jamon Iberico melt in my mouth. Chicharron: Pork belly chunks that has been sitting in brine and then fried. Tender meat as crispy skin. All I need was a side of rice or potatoes to make it a meal. 4/5 Jamon Iberico: It's quite pricey to have Jamon Iberico in the US so, every time I'm in Europe, I have to take advantage of this. Huge serving for £10. 5/5 Pork Steak: Pork shoulder with Jerusalem artichoke, truffle goat cheese emulsion, and walnuts. I could've gotten beef steak but I already had steak places on my itinerary for the next few days. I was honestly expecting a thin dry pork chop but to my surprise, right in front of me was a huge thick cut of juicy grilled pork! It came with a side of fried potato skins that were super crunchy. 5/5 Churros: Ok now, this is where it got kind of tricky. It's like Mexican churros meet Spanish churros. I prefer the Spanish version (fried pate a choux you dip in thick warm chocolate) over the cinnamon sugar-dusted fried pate a choux. You get Mexican churros with a side of warm dark chocolate which a bit runny. I would've liked a thicker chocolate. 3/5 For all the food I ate, I only spent less than £40! There's a bus stop right outside this restaurant so if you're coming from a few miles farther, you can take the bus to get here.

One of the best restaurants in Belfast. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our date here, our waitress was very friendly & the tapas were great. The drinks were also great. The calamari was amazing

Really gorgeous food with fantastic service. Something different for Belfast. Best patatas bravas in the city. Highly recommend the beef shin and salmon main courses.

The dining area is very chic with lots of sleek lines. Very elegant but modern style. Loved all the tableware as well - everything seemed earthy and hand thrown. Our favorites of the night were hands down the duck and truffle fried rice - we all fought for this dish toward the end. It was one of the most unctuous bites of food that I've ever had. The fried rice was PERFECT - each grain of rice was coated in beautiful fat and was the homiest and warmest kind of dish. Would come back for this alone. I highly recommend coming to YuGo, especially if you have a large group and want to try a variety of dishes. All the flavors and cook were spot on, and we really enjoyed our time. Thank you YuGo!

I feel like from sitting down to receiving our food it took maybe 10 minutes. Definitely the quickest service and exactly what we needed because we were so hungry! The food was incredible! They are very small portions so they recommend 2-3 per person. We also got the chef's sushi selection and it was so yummy, the fish was so fresh! I was afraid I wouldn't be full but after the meal I was perfectly full. The whole vibe of the restaurant was also great! Busy but not overwhelming and beautiful plates and presentation of the food! Would recommend!

Barking Dog Restaurant - beef shin burger is definitely not your average burger

I've had my fair share of memorable burgers from coast to coast in America, but just glancing at a picture of the beef shin burger transports me back across the pond to the Barking Dog. I remember the few days I spent in Belfast fondly and of the many memories, my meal at the Barking Dog was a definite highlight. In a rather quaint and charming neighborhood, I took a nice short stroll from my Airbnb and came across this gem of an establishment and decided I had to check it out. I had a nice beer to start, and it wasn't a Guinness because stouts aren't my thing, but whatever it was I remember it being excellent and local. Undoubtedly you could make this place a regular haunt and there is no shortage of drinks and food options to make this a go-to for a date, celebration, or a quick meal. The staff are welcoming, kind, and helpful and the general atmosphere is chill. The food for me was ethereal - a burger isn't just a burger here and what you get when you bite into the beef shin burger is a little slice of Heaven. Moist and tender are a given but the taste is just so divine with the caramelized onion, cheddar, and horseradish mayo melding into an union of perfection. It's hard not to describe one of the most memorable meals of my life in such hyperbole but the vivid recall I have of this particular place is uncanny and merits all the praise I can heap upon the fine folks that run the place. If timing had worked out, I would have eaten as meals here as I could have but I'll thank my lucky stars for at least giving me one opportunity to eat such a wonderful burger at such a wonderful eatery. A+ and a definite must when visiting Belfast.

As part of these birthday celebrations they gave an audience of 100 people plus a taster of what Cabaret was all about. The evening started with a crooner who was built in the mould of the original rat pack, he took on some Sinatra classics as well as some other classic sing alongs. The evening was hosted by the unbelievably entertaining Robert who sang all the classics and engaged with the audience in hilarious fashion (sitting in the front row I was inevitably on the end of some of his quips). Between Robert's songs there were talented burlesque dancers who wouldn't have been out of place in the Moulin Rouge. The club itself is deceptively roomy and the acoustics are perfect for these type of shows. There's not many other places in Belfast that couple eating and entertainment so if you haven't been down to the super club then I would suggest booking yourself in - you are guaranteed great entertainment and value for money.

I've been to the venue before a few times for the general show and for some tribute acts. We were greeted at the door with a glass of bubbly, which lets face it kicks any night off to a good start! Seating wasn't assigned so being nice and early we managed to nab seats right at the front of the stage! (I believe you can reserve tables as well) Entertainment kicked off with a swing and blues singer who was very good. I love the style of music anyway so it was right up my street, My mum and I also got stuck in to a bottle of prosecco. It was nice but at the pricey range of some I've bought. At £32 a bottle it was good stuff, but I wouldn't be hurrying for more except on a special occasion. After the first bit of Entertainment platters of 'tappas' style buffet trays were brought round. This was a little different for me as I'd only ever eaten the full sit down dinner before in the venue (Which are great) The food was fantastic, but I think we chose the wrong seat. We had a few nibbles from the first tray and then the rest seemed to pass us by for the rest of the night. So in the end we got enough to fight off the hunger but were left wanting more. (The selection was great ranging from mini-burgers, fries, chicken goujons, pork belly and other little finger foods) The burgers especially were delicious. After food the main show kicked off. Our main host of the night was Robert Brown. I've worked with Robert in the past and I know how great a performer he is so it was nice to see other people who hadn't react to him. I was particularly impressed by the drag performer Cherrie who had an amazing voice and a great repertoire of songs, and off course the Burlesque girls were amazing. (There was a gentleman in the audience I am sure was drooling at one point and was completely mesmerised by the whole show. Also props for the girl who did the take on Jessica Rabbits scene from 'Who framed Roger Rabbit!) We finished up the second half of the show with a nice bottle of Chilean rose wine. It was nice, but again a tad on the pricey side, at £18 a bottle, just above the average and with a nice sweet bouquet it was ok, but think I'll hit the pints next time to save the wallet so close to the end of the month. Overall the Cabaret Supper Club is a great night out, the performance is great and the food is good. (I think the average price for dinner and show is around £30 per head so its very good value) Its a unique experience that will leave you wanting to come back for more. Bravo!

We then were given menus and after much deliberation, we decided to order some paella Valencia. And so we waited to order. And waited some more. And because we waited nearly ten minutes while people were chatting, we got up and left. Cannot comment on the food because we didn't quite get that far. The first thing worth noting is that, yes, it is expensive if you pay full price, but they ALWAYS (and that's not an exaggeration) have an offer on. After getting a recommendation from a few workers at a local coffee shop as well as picking up a full restaurant week booklet from the tourist office, we decided to go to The Apartment for a gourmet Irish dinner. We were seated upstairs at a couch adjacent to a big glass wall overlooking town hall and the city center. For the restaurant week special we got to choose two of either an appetizer, dinner, or dessert in addition to a glass of wine for €13. We ordered an appetizer of smoked salmon with beetroot mousse, rye bread, and gherkins. The mousse was really something special, but when you got a perfect bite with each item on the plate it was mouth watering. I ordered the Northern Irish Bacon Chopvwith traditional black pudding, garlic potatoes, and cauliflower puree. We'd never seen bacon served as a slab, but it was pretty epic, and yes I ate the whole thing. It was a little on the salty side, but well worth the experience. The cauliflower was amazing and left us searching for a recipe! My wife ordered the roast local cod with potato mash. The cod was cooked to perfection with a buttery goodness that highlighted the delicate flavor. The artichoke puree complimented it very well. They really know their purees and mousses! The mash was very cheesy and tasty, but nothing too special, the garlic fries were better. For our final course we ordered their steamed chocolate pudding with honeycomb ice-cream and a latte. The dessert was almost like a lava cake but with a very enjoyable and unique texture that made it light and delicious. The caramel drizzle and ice cream were a perfect pairing. The latte was delicious and a perfect rounded ending to a very good meal.
