    After-Curly men's cut
    Jeannine I.

Service requested specific to curly men's cut. My son's hair is corse, thick, curly, and we thought unmanageable. Whenever he has had it cut somewhere else, it looks frizzy and has an unflattering shape. Patrick took his time using different cutting techniques and styled it after. [[HIGHLIGHT]]He also gave my son instruction on styling product and application.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]For a teen, less is more so the directions were made simple.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Since then, my son has a lot more confidence and can finally say he loves his curls. Salon is modern, employees are friendly and environment is chill and relaxed. Thanks Patrick!

I had SUCH a great experience with Jessica! She took off about 12 inches and styled my hair exactly as I wanted. The salon itself is really clean and modern, and they primarily use R + Co products, which I love. Jessica also has wavy/curly texture hair, so she knew exactly how to work with my hair, and how to layer it so the curls would look great too. I highly recommend this salon, and I can't wait to return for my next appointment!

Dry hair with patchy colour application

Please don't go here. I made a huge mistake by trusting the salon with my hair. I did read all the reviews and ignored a couple of negative ones. Huge mistake on my part. I would warn against making the same mistake I did! I got an appointment for a toner on my balayaged hair. It was my mistake on my part that I didn't fully understand the services. I also needed a partial balayage. My hairstylist (Trish) told me that she was new to the salon but has had about 30+ years of experience in hair. She assured me that she had enough time to do my roots and add a toner. She also assured me that she can do it all because she had the time and one of the assistants would be blow drying my hair to my liking. I thought it was normal because that does happen at other salons. I did tell her that if she didn't have the time, I could just do some toner and I would be happy with it. She agreed towards the end that she didn't do the consult properly and to my surprise had good suggestions on how this could have been done differently. So I am thinking it's not incompetence as a hair stylist on her part, but maybe miscommunication or an act of racism. I was also the only person of color at the salon and also realised that most of the small talk was around "where I am from" and "what are my plans on going back home". Now that I have had the time to think about it, I realise that it was inappropriate and I was naively engaging in that conversation. She did mention that she had 30+ years of experience in hair which makes me wonder how can someone treat hair like that with so much experience. I was told that no one would be able to blow dry my hair and I might have to go back home with wet hair in Chicago winter! I do still have wetness in my hair after 2 folks roughly dried my hair which left it burnt and damaged. No one put any serum or conditioner in my hair. I also have patches of different shades of brown in my hair. I still smell chemicals which weren't washed out properly by my hair stylist. Definitely see the pictures for yourself. This is the worst hair salon experience I have had in my 27 years and I feel extremely crappy about how a stylist with so much experience roughly handled my hair (which is so important to a persons self image). I also want to warn people that the hair stylist (Trish) didn't remove the chemicals from my hair completely which left my scalp kind of red/irritated with a burning sensation. I had to wash my hair when I got back home to get the chemicals off but my scalp is still irritated! She also messily directed a lot of heat to my scalp while blow drying which added to the irritation (5 hours later, still irritated). The salon did offer me to not charge for the service after seeing how my hair turned out (It was that bad :/ ).

I recently had my first cut from Patrick and was so super happy with the experience and results! As someone with very curly hair, I'm always a little nervous seeing someone new. But I could tell right away that I was in good hands. He's clearly passionate about textured hair and it shows. I was delighted to get a cut that gave me a cool shape while maintaining the length. I love the way he styled it, but it looks awesome even when I do very little styling at home, which is definitely the sign of a great haircut.

Shana is the best! I just moved to CHI from STL. I've had the same stylist for 10 years, and I have very thick and wavy hair and a very unique hair color, so it's tough to find people who can cut and color it the way I like. After multiple google searches and word of mouth, I decided to use Edit. I also was looking for a place to remove my extensions, so I filled out an online form. Not only did they respond right away, but she even suggested a salon that could remove my beaded row extensions. I booked with Pat for hair and Shana for color. Shana was absolutely awesome and NAILED the color. It's a tough red to match and it turned out perfect. Also, Pat did such a great job with my cut that I've decided against putting my extensions in again. I will definitely be back. These guys are the real deal.

This was after my first appt giving me highlights and beginning the gradual process of taking me lighter

YES!!! Send an email to them, they respond immediately! I think the email is info@editsalon.com but check the website. Remember they are closed on Sunday and Monday so they don't respond on those days. It's the only way I book.

I came in after a disastrous visit to a…read moreso‑called "blonde specialist" who completely ruined my hair while trying to take me from brunette to blonde. My hair was damaged, uneven, and honestly I was scared to try again. Lira changed everything. She not only helped me achieve the blonde I originally wanted, but she did it in a way that protected my hair and brought it back to life. My color looks beautiful, natural, and exactly how I envisioned it. Even better--my hair is actually growing back and feeling healthy again. Lira is truly a master of her craft. She listens, she cares, and she knows exactly what she's doing. If you're thinking about going blonde or need someone to fix a color gone wrong, she's the one you want in your corner. Absolutely worth every visit.

First I will start with what was good…read more 1. The dye job ended up beautiful. I came in with pretty unclear instructions and reference photos and both the stylist and the owner were able to figure out what fit my needs. This seems to be a huge strength here. 2. They were able to fit me in last minute. What was bad 1. The total time listed online was 1.45 hours, the service ended up taking 2.45 hours. I have been to many salons and never had my hair take that long, especially when I was getting all over color and a blowout (no haircut). Perhaps this was due to me booking last minute. However, the website booking made it look wide open and I think it is the responsibility of the salon to accurately represent their booking capability. I would not have booked with them had I known what experience was to follow. 2. The salon overall seemed overbooked and people were bouncing around. Three different people worked on my hair. Personally, I really didn't like this set up. I like to build a relationship with my stylist and this hectic atmosphere was not synonymous with that 3. The blowout I had was so uncomfortable. The rollers were tangled up in my hair and I could feel it ripping out as the stylist took them out. I have never have a blowout be so painful. My hair had so many split ends after I looked in the mirror at home. 4. My hair fell the moment I stepped outside. Granted it was a windy day, but my hair doesn't typically fall that fast. I think this may have been due to the stylist rushing at the end. On one hand I'm glad she did because I had been sitting alone for quite some time, but on the other hand I paid for essentially nothing. My old stylist back home (moved cross country) had no problem giving me a blowout that lasted at least a few hours. Even on windy days. 5. At one point the owner took my stylist in the back and seemed to be scolding her. This is never something a new client wants to see. I immediately felt anxious that something had gone wrong with my hair color. It ended up great but tbh experience was awkward and handled strangely in my opinion. 6. Finally. The price came out to $260 for all over color and a blowout. I wouldn't mind this price if it wasn't for the lackluster experience. Hair salons are charging luxury prices without offering luxury experiences. The pricing structure is also strange. They charge $60 extra for toner but I have never had a color job that didn't need toner to look good. It feels strange to not include it all together. The toner charge was added after which was a surprise because toner has always been included in the price. To be clear, the website did ask if I wanted to add toner for $60. I thought that was for someone coming in looking just to tone and not add more color. Perhaps this was my mistake but I found the whole pricing structure strange. A few other things to note: water was offered but never given and they only accept cash/zelle/venmo tips. Overall this salon was not a fit for me. A lot of this is subjective preference but I think it's important that people understand what environment they are paying for when they sign up to spend hundreds. That being said, the color was beautiful and I am grateful for that.

What disappointed me most was not only the result, but the way my concerns were handled afterward. Instead of taking responsibility for the result and trying to understand why I was unhappy, the stylist repeatedly shifted the conversation toward blaming me. I was made to feel that the problem was somehow related to my language barrier and cultural differences in communication. At one point, the conversation even became about money and what I had paid for -- essentially, "You didn't pay for the whole highlight, right?" -- which felt completely inappropriate and shaming. I have never experienced this level of disrespect or lack of accountability in a beauty salon. I left feeling sad, embarrassed, and unwelcome, when I had simply come in expecting professional service and to be heard as a client. I want to be clear that I don't believe this experience represents the values of the entire salon or its owners. My issue is specifically with this individual stylist and the way he handled a situation when the result did not meet my expectations. I am sharing this so other women, especially those who may have a language or cultural communication difference, know to make sure their concerns are genuinely listened to and treated respectfully. A client should never be made to feel guilty or ashamed for expressing disappointment with a service.
