I think I liked the parking at the old location better. Inside is nice and open with plenty of place to sit. Assortment looks to be a bit larger than at the previous location, and I appreciate the sign boards above. $40 dollars for a cake has always seemed a bit much to me, but when the writing looks like a kindergartener tried their best I'm done with Edgar's. Publix can do better. Update-Edgar's reached out to apologize and offer a full refund. We didn't think it was right to get a refund on something we had already eaten. When the wife said, "I'm thinking about getting those Thanksgiving cookies...," I understood my assignment. I went to Edgar's to get the prescribed number of festive cookies. The ladies in the shop were very nice and helpful. At first they thought they might be out of pumpkins for the day, but someone quickly pointed towards 10 more trays of cookies standing at the ready. The cookies themselves were good, though I admit I prefer the turkeys mostly because they didn't have the extra sugar on the edge, but it did make them 'prettier' according to those who know such things. I imagine I'll be back for lost of holiday-themed cookies in the future, and I may even use it as an excuse for lunch there, too. read more

My first time at this location was on 12/30/23. We were greeted with smiles upon entering the bakery. This location is more on the smaller side so it's quite cozy inside. Cupcakes were buy 3 get 1 free. Selections made were red velvet, Italian cream , lemon and strawberry. We also had a chocolate marble pound cake slice. Really enjoyed these yummy treats on a late Saturday afternoon. The staff is really nice here and very helpful. The young lady , Taylor who assisted us did a really good job filling our orders! I stopped in the new Pelham location to pick up a few cupcakes. I was dissatisfied. I got a variety and in each one the cake itself was dry and not much flavor. The Italian cream did not have good flavor period. The red velvet was dry and not much flavor. The icings were good. The strawberry overly rich. Caramel did not have good cake to icing ratio. Usually love Edgar's. I just find some locations are better than others. I prefer Hoover over Pelham. read more

I visited Edgar's Bakery in Pelham this morning and placed a to-go order around 9:08 AM. After waiting 20 minutes, I checked in with the host, who went to the back and said it would be about 5 more minutes. By the 30-minute mark, I noticed another customer--who had ordered after me--receive her food, including some of the same items I had ordered. I asked the host again about my order, and a manager stepped in. After checking with the kitchen, the manager explained that their order screen was broken and told the host she should have kept better track of my ticket. The manager offered cupcakes as a courtesy, which I appreciated, but my intention was mainly to share feedback on how the situation was handled. As an African American customer, I left feeling overlooked and uncomfortable. Whether intentional or not, experiences like this can leave a lasting impression and deserve reflection and attention from management. read more

I have been looking for breakfast pastries and decided to see what Edgar's Bakery had. They had four pastries and they were all very generic: cinnamon/orange rolls, chocolate, strawberry, and I am not sure about the other. Where are the croissants, Kouign-amann, or brioche pastries? They had a few loaves of unsweetened bread (rye, sourdough) but no pumpernickel for toast. Their buttercream is really good, but Publix has a better variety of pastries and breads. The cinnamon bread I purchased was rather dry. The store was clean. First time ordering from Edgar's was quite disappointed. The strawberry cake my family has bought has been great the couple times I've tasted it, so I got one for my birthday dinner last month while I was in town. I ordered a round cake and 12 cupcakes with the order design. I ordered the cake online weeks before my birthday. Since it was my first online order with them, I contacted the next day to confirm. The agent said my order was fine, but we double-checked everything. A 10" round pink ombre rosette strawberry cake was all I wanted. I then ordered another dozen cupcakes on the same call and agreed that using the cake's ombre colors would be beautiful and possible. On my birthday, my friend and I picked it up and opened a solid rosette cake and a dozen ombre cupcakes, including the ladies upfront. The strange thing is that the order notes and receipt attached to the cake clearly stated that the rosette design was added but not the ombre color. No one could correct it in time for my birthday dinner while we were at the store. Disappointed, I tried to make things work for my birthday and guests. The ladies gave me Brett's, the "manager", number. I contacted him but he said he was out of the office and to give my info to Ashley at the store, which I did. First and final time I spoke to him. I told her everything and I guess he went to investigate. She contacted me back several times that day, but I got the impression that she was trying to find every excuse to blame me and not the baker or staff for the mistake that could have been avoided by paying attention to the notes. She even said someone should have called me a few days earlier to confirm. Since then, no follow-up contact,email, or apology and it made me feel unappreciated as a customer. My bank is handling this dispute. The strawberry cake was nice but not what I wanted. I would never trust them with a custom cake for an important event, but they are okay for simple cakes. Placed an online order for a strawberry cake 2 weeks prior to the date of an event. On the day I arrived to pick it up, initially they were unable to find my order and the gentleman almost made me feel like he thought I was lying about the cake. Did not enjoy that feeling. Finally they found my order (it had been filed under another date or something) and they quickly got my cake ready. Stick to their baked goods, because YUCK!! Their breakfast sandwiches are bland and disgusting. We ordered the Spicy Eggacado Sandwich, Pimento Cheese Biscuit, and a cinnamon bun. Their pimento cheese is one of the worst tasting pimentos I've ever had in my entire life. Their Spicy Eggacado Sandwich had bland eggs, with barely any avocados in the sandwich, and it isn't spicy at all. If you find Sriracha spicy, then you will find this sandwich spicy. Sriracha to me is like ketchup, so it wasn't spicy to me. The bread on the  Spicy Eggacado Sandwich was so weak and fell apart rapidly, making it impossible to eat with your hands. Both sandwiches were incredibly messy and difficult topick up and eat.  It does look like they specialize in baked goods, because they have an overwhelming variety of baked goods. Edgars is usually my go to for special occasion cakes and this location is my norm as well. I did try another location but I know who to stick with. Enough about cakes. I am now making this location my go to for cinnamon rolls. I walked in and spotted the one that I wanted and the young man was nice and gave me the exact one. It was warm when I purchased it but I had to run several errands before making it home so the temp changed. Nothing a few seconds in the microwave can't solve. Oh but I was tempted and took a bite as soon as I settled down and good, good, good. Love it!!! Edgar's was once a premiere bakery. However, now it is a take what we have and get over it establishment. I ordered several dozen petitfors for a baby shower. Discussed in the bakery, at length, the color rose buds to place on each white cake. I also left an invitation which featured the color concept. I had scheduled a 5 pm pickup. At 330 pm I received a call asking what flavor I wanted and the flavor I wanted was not even listed. I corrected the flavor and reminded my pick up time was in 90 minutes. Arrived and received colors of rose buds I did not want and other flowers I did not want. Was told there was no way to remake them and have ready when I needed at 10 am the next day. If you have specific wants or an opinion at all of what you want, go elsewhere! They are hideous and I am mortified with no choice but to serve these off theme cakes that cost a small fortune. Edgar's for the win! I discovered Edgars back in 2015 when my daughter was a freshman at UA, and it has been a tradition for us every time we are in town. If I were going to open my own bakery, for esthetic, it would look very much like Edgar's it's beautiful, warm and inviting. With full cases of goodies and a nice sized breakfast/lunch menu, it's easy to leave full and happy. Their coffee is always good, and their orange rolls should not be missed. My only criticism is that their petit fours are actually cake bites- petit fours should be layered and delicate abs while theirs are yummy, they are nowhere in the realm of a true petit four. read more

Hidden gem. Tucked off in Pelham and if you didn't search for locations online you'd never know it was there. It's not noticeable from the street. I ordered a strawberry cake over the phone for my daughters birthday. She loves strawberry cake from Edgar's. I had them write a message on top and I was made to pay over the phone to secure the cake. The bakery is beautiful. And it was fully stocked with goodies in a lovely case. I ended up buying 2 peanut butter cookies while waiting on Jordyn's cake to be boxed. The next day on Jordyn's bday we were able to cut the cake. IT WAS DELICIOUS, FLAVORFUL, AND MOIST. It was by far the best strawberry cake ever. Everyone complimented the cake and by the end of the 24 hours after it was cut it is almost gone. read more

I am an Edgar's fan. This location is smaller than others in the area and tucked in a bit of an obscure spot, but the food is just as delicious. I have been in to pick up sweet treats and chicken salad to go and visited for lunch with some colleagues. I have a weakness for their Sonoma chicken salad, so I ordered the sandwich for lunch. It came on toasted bread with lettuce. I ordered the pasta salad as my side and it was an ideal compliment to the sandwich. Everything was fresh and the ingredients were quality. While they are known for their strawberry cake, I have nothing but compliments for all of their sugary treats. From the lemon bars, to brownies, to cupcakes, to cookies, you can't go wrong. At least I have, yet, to go wrong... My only concern is the seating for dining in is quite limited. They do have a nice section of outdoor seating, but if it is cold outside, seating can be a challenge. read more

My latest experience with Edgars was not acceptable and why I am writing this review. Keep in mind this is not about the taste or quality of what Edgars produces. This is about their customer service or lack thereof. Our experience started with my daughter picking up our family birthday cake at the Tuscaloosa location 2 days after ordering. At a quick glance it appeared to acceptable however when we went to remove the cake from its box it was evident that the icing on the back side was separating from the cake. I attempted to repair it the best I could for our party. Not great but acceptable. Then after cutting the first 2 pieces the cake began to split down the middle and fall apart. Embarassing and NOT acceptable. This is not a Publix cake and not a Publix price so anyone should expect better. At this point our experience only got worse. It was night and Edgars was closed but I encouraged my daughter to call the next day which she did. The customer service lady agreed that there was a problem and not something we should expect. She asks my daughter to send pictures which we had taken after the cake fell apart. She did and was told that the manager would call her which he did on Monday. This was the customer service mgr Brent, not the manager at the Tuscaloosa. My daughter was camping that next week so was not able to call him back until the next week. At this point it became evident that we were dealing with someone who has little experience with customer service, does not put the customer first, and instead hides behind what he says is corporate policy (which if it is the case needs a real overhaul). We were first told that she didn't call back soon enough (though she had originally called the next day and did as she was told in sending them the pictures), then that she didn't return the cake (this was improbable and impossible since it was served over an hour away at night when Edgars was closed and after it was partially eaten which we had no other option to do), then that anytime you buy anything like shoes or pants or dress you have to return them so the same for a cake (Ridiculous...given the fact that we were an hour away, the cake was partially eaten, and it certainly wasn't pratical to ship the cake back to them). I think you get the picture. This was more about a flawed corporate policy than about satisfying the customer....putting the customer FIRST. Again, this is not really about the cake itself as imperfect as it was. We had previously ordered a cake for my daughters birthday back in March which was excellent and enjoyed with her friends and have been willing to pay a bit extra for Edgars before in expectation of greater quality which we have received. I then posted a comment on the contact tab of the Edgars website. Within an hour I received a call from the manager of the Tuscaloosa location who listened to our story and though he believed the cake was okay when it was picked up, acknowledged that our experience with cake (icing falling off, cake cracking) was not acceptable and apologized. He then said that a response to our situation (whether refund, gift card or whatever) was out of his hands and under their corporate customer service which I would question as being best of the customer (I have read other complaints about this practice). He also acknowledged the unreasonableness of the response we had received regarding returning the cake in our situation, timing of our call, the evidence of the photos, and mostly in putting the customer first. I have worked for many years in jobs involved in some way with customer relations and Brent's response to our experience is lacking greatly in understanding what it truly means to serve the customer with excellence and graciously make things right when we have produced something that was not acceptable. I told them I would post this review and many others given their response to our complaint, and we are unlikely to visit Edgars in the future. read more

Probably the best cinnamon bun I have ever had! Just visiting the area and was looking for breakfast place and went here because it was close. We had the spicy breakfast sandwich, which had a great kick to it and then had a pecan roll and cinnamon roll. We wanted to go back the next day, but they are closed on Sunday! Now we are planning our next trip to the area, and going back to Edgar's is a big part of the reason for the trip!!! read more

"Great cakes yes but wonderful sandwiches!" Edgars in known for their sweets, especially the cakes but I love to go there for a wonderful light lunch. The food here is very fresh, and the Pelham location provides and environment conducive to both a conversation or having a quiet meal alone. And in the warmer months they have the patio open for outdoor dining. Soups, sandwiches and salads are all delicious plus you have lots to pick from for a sweet ending:) And you can get in and out in under an hour making for a wonderful lunch spot! read more

Too many mixups and issues as result and seems to provide staff with excuse when orders not being fulfilled nor allowing to check on availability. They ruined our thanksgiving lunch we had planned for weeks for our healthcare workers. I spent 366 dollars on a thanksgiving special they advertised and was told the food would not be frozen as we have no way to cook it at the office other than a microwave. We went to pick it up about 30 minutes before lunch was to be served and it was rock solid frozen. They didn't care and were rude. They didn't even offer to heat it up and only gave a refund after I asked & they checked with their headquarters. We ended up having to go to Publix and buy their sides and have them slice some ham for us last minute. I was in tears and Publix employees actually had some empathy unlike the employees at Publix saved the day. Edgars employees at Edgar's Highway 119 location who added so much stress when we are already stressed enough. Will NEVER buy from them again. read more

I have been a customer of Edgars Bakery since they opened at the Colonnade. I have never received anything that was less than exceptional. The food and CAKES are fantastic! The employees are welcoming, friendly and regardless of staffing struggles (no different than most other restaurants due of the COVID economic impact) they still smile. They manage to provide great everything! I will always use them and I will continue to recommend them to everyone I know. read more
