    Edgar's Chicken Melt
    Jon L.

Edgar's is a well-known bakery with a few locations around Huntsville. I tried the popular location in the "village" of Providence. In a bakery for breakfast, I ordered the cinnamon roll but was very unimpressed. It was surprisingly cold and dry. However, I did enjoy the Chicken Melt, which has avocado, peppers, and cheese. The avocado was by far my favorite. Though the side of pasta salad tasted like one of those grocery store deli items that sit behind the case all day. While it's hard to mess up cinnamon rolls and pasta salad, perhaps I ordered the wrong baked goods, so I may give Edgar's another shot.

    Biscuits and gravy

Biscuits and gravy were disappointing! The gravy has no taste and is so thick and doughy...too much flour. It came out looking like it had been sitting on the plate for hours. We also ordered Eggs Benedict and my husband wasn't a fan. He only ate a few bites. $50.00 wasted. :/ They are busy selling a lot of cakes and pastries from the bakery so that must be their specialty. It's definitely not their brunch food. Chai latte was good. Atmosphere is nice. Lots of room to find a good seat. *Tyler, a manager, did talk through this with me and allowed me to share my customer experience.*

You can see how even the top has shrunk, showing the cake , the bottom it's sinking after I pushed it together

Listen, update to my previous review. I'm still extraordinarily disappointed in this cake, but to their credit the manager after seeing my review did reach out to me. I did get a refund. Fix I actually had already called my bank and they had already credited me because I had paid for strawberries which I did not get in the cake was a disaster. My concern about ordering a cake ever again would be if this was a baby shower or something really special not that my daughter's birthday wasn't but it was Family. If you ordered a cake for a party and you got this, you would be beyond furious. I'm sorry to say it's just not reliable enough to order.. it was such a disaster that as a family we've decided next year for any cake we're going to make our own.! Sorry edgarg's you've lost at least three groups of our family!

Great open space to work or visit in. Wonderful breakfast, and always great sweets. Everyone is always kind and friendly as well. Anytime I'm in town I have to stop by for a treat or spend my afternoon working from here!

What has happened to this place? 4/6/23 The tall, blonde, female with all the necklaces cashier was an unfriendly robot, she wasn't helpful at all. I asked what came on a sandwich and she said here's a menu you can read it, I had to step out of line and dig for my reading glasses and read the menu (The menu board doesn't list what's on each sandwich.) It's been a year or so since we have eaten at Edgar's and I noticed their pre sliced cake are now half the size they were before. My Apple Jack sandwich didn't have the usual cranberry bread but instead served it on walnut bread. The walnut bread crust was so hard I could barely bite through. For a cranberry sandwich, there were no cranberries on it at all. Very disappointing. In addition, in the past when you order a side you always got chips with your meal. I got no chips today. Now the tea, on the other hand, was the best in all of Huntsville The place look the same still cute.

"What side do you want?" "Hmm, what's the pepper slaw?" Actual response: "I don't know. It's like slaw, with peppers. I think it's mayo-based." Factually accurate response: "It's a vinegar-based slaw with chopped green peppers. And we're going to serve it on a lettuce leaf, so it looks pretty. But the vinegar is going to run all over the plate, turning the bottom half of your sandwich into a doughy, soggy mess." Third time here. Second time it didn't live up to expectations. Time to move on.

I ate here twice and once ordered out a bunch of pastries and turkey roll ups for a meeting. Love this place. Service inconsistent but food makes up for it. The avocado egg sandwich was delicious. I got it on grain bread without the hot sauce. So delicious. The pastries could kill any diet. I loved the cookies and mini cakes. The turkey roll up was good. The cinnamon bun is the target next trip!

No one and still I wait 20+ minutes for my food

I'm going to preface this by saying I was in a hurry, and I came in around 9:00 (end of the breakfast rush when people were leaving. I ordered French toasts and bacon. I sat there for about 25 minutes. Several people came, ate, and left while I waited. About 20 minutes into my wait they did come out and tell me my food would be out soon. I assumed they were baking the bread fresh or waiting for a chicken to crap out a fresh egg. Food finally showed up. The food was good, but I was now late and had to scarf it down and didn't get to enjoy it. So, I didn't get to leisurely enjoy my $14 breakfast. I should've swung by the Golden Arches, picked up a McGriddle and cup of coffee and ate in my car while driving. Food was good, service below standard. I know Resteraunt are looking for help, but when I see people order their food after me, get served, eat, and leave, then there's another problem. Sorry Edgars. Try again

Yesterday I had to make asKtop at the yarn store and couldn't think of a better way to treat myself than with Peggy Ann's, Unfortunately, most of what I got was disappointing. I did start with my favorite - the smiley face buttercream icing sugar cookie. Really, the bottom sugar cookie is just acting as a vehicle for the nearly 1" tall circle of buttercream icing (it may be frosting - I honestly don't know the difference and, really, I don't care, all I know is that I can eat their buttercream with a spoon.) It took 3 days to actually get to the sugar cookie on the bottom. Along with the cookie, I bought just a bunch of random baked goods. I bought my husband an iced brownie which he didn't finish because it was just way too sweet. I bought one of my childhood favorites - a cream horn. This is coming from the person who ate straight butter cream for three days - the cream was so sweet it just overwhelmed the delicate horn. I ate the pastry which was delicious only after I scraped out the cream. I bought a blueberry scone for breakfast - nothing at all special. And finally, I got my husband a banana nut muffin. He said "taste this" - I don't know what was wrong with it but it was awful and we tossed it. Peggy Ann Bakery is known for their petit fours. Both my husband and my son's FIL said "huh, I don't know" when asked if they knew what a petit four was. If you're younger than 50, you might not know either, but these tiny cakes are a favorite at Southern showers and teas. I've really never known anyone who just ate them because they liked them but they do make you want to go "pinkies out" when you see them displayed on the table. I was really excited about my visit to Peggy Ann Bakery but now it just makes me sad - I spent $16 yet we threw away almost half of what I bought.

The breakfast sandwiches and BLT are decently executed, but I'm REALLY not a fan of their bagels. Their bread (particularly the baguette) is fantastic, though. Note: it sells out quickly. You can still pick up your to-go order without having to deal with people. They now have a cute bookshop inside. They make their own cream cheese! Cons: If I'm paying $1.50 for an avocado add on, PLEASE don't let it be oxidized and brown and gross. This makes me sad. Parking is still a nightmare. See above about the bagels. I'm prepared for the hate I'm about to get, but I prefer Bruegger's...which is sad, as I'm sure they're produced and come in frozen. Prices have gone up, but that's to be expected. I would love, however, the option to not add on a side for less moolah. I don't want their straight from the bag chips, random baby carrots, or (somewhat icky) fruit. Depending on the timing, you may be able to get a seat. Or you may be fighting a soccer mom with 4 screaming toddlers just to pick up a to go order. Still a fan, but know what you're getting.

This little business is tucked away on Gaslight Alley in Stovehouse. It took me way too long to…read morerealized the "Cutes" stands for charcuterie, but they sell that and cupcakes as well as a few other confections. It's a little shop with a small but diverse inventory of confections. There's no room to sit and eat inside but it's a quick walk over to the food garden if you want to have your treat there. Honestly, going inside didn't make the charcuterie part of the business any more evident - it looks like mostly desserts - but I was there for dessert anyway so nbd. Service was a little cool at first but warmed up as I asked questions and for recommendations. I wound up getting two cupcakes to go (a chocolate peanut butter one and a cookies and cream one at the employee's recommendation) and a strawberry pretzel salad for right then. I'll be honest, this place gave me sticker shock pretty badly. These are very average sized cupcakes (with beautiful frosting work...but the fact remains these aren't the behemoths you'd get during the viral mega cupcake craze a few years ago) and the strawberry pretzel salad cup was also comfortably for one serving only. It was about $14, almost 16 with tip. Whew! The products were alright but nothing really stood out. The strawberry pretzel salad was probably the best thing, but it was all in very discrete layers, which is not my preference. The pretzels were completely separate from everything else and it was hard getting a bite of all the elements put together. That said, the flavors were good, though the strawberry part could've been a bit sweeter. The cupcakes were fine. I thought there was a smidge too much frosting on them for the size of the cakes but it wasn't egregious like it is at Bite Me Cupcakery at Bridge Street. The chocolate peanut butter cupcake didn't have much peanut butter flavor (only the bites with PB drizzle); personally, I was hoping for some peanut butter flavor in the cake itself. The cookies and cream was bland but not overly sweet, which was a plus. Overall, for my experience there, this place offered pretty but expensive desserts that satisfied if not necessarily blew my socks off. It might be a good spot for a quick sweet tooth fix if you're enjoying time at Stovehouse.
