Okay so grab a cup of coffee, this read might take a minute... First off, I've read some of the comments that have been left by other people, and all I can say is that some of you need to lighten up a little bit. This is not a five-star restaurant. Quite honestly this isn't even a four-star restaurant, it's a freaking diner. Eddie's restaurant started in 1934 as a hot dog stand. My parents used to go here back in the 1960s before I even existed, they used to bring my sister and I here in the 1970s. I'm pretty sure all they had back then was probably a deep fryer and a flat top. So anyway, partially because of the fact I haven't been here in about 40 years, and my mom hadn't been here in a couple years anyway (her and dad still used to frequent the place from time to time).. I picked her up and took her for Mother's Day. Upon entering this place, not a lot has changed. The basic layout of the dining room is the same as it was back in the 1970s, I think the chairs and and the booths might even be the same, I mean yeah reupholstered I'm sure but the golden color on the chairs I believe I remember from back in the 1970s. I'm sure this is actually part of the reason that people still frequent this place as often as they do. It's modern as far as I'm sure the kitchen is concerned however the dining area is almost like a step back into time. So anyway, we were seated and a waitress came up rather quickly. Her name was Anna, and she rocked. I like to bust chops from time to time and I will occasionally try it with wait staff at various restaurants, and although it doesn't always go very well, Anna picked up on this and fed it right back to me beautifully. She of course also did everything that a good waitress should be doing like checking on us a couple times and making sure we had everything. The food itself, I'm not going to lie wasn't that great. Okay I know you're thinking wait a minute this guy gave the place five stars but now he says the food isn't that great. I didn't say the food was bad, but I will go back to my previous comment and remind everybody that this is basically just a diner. I had the chicken and biscuits which was on special. It was good but it wasn't spectacular. Honestly it was a little bland I found myself using salt and pepper a couple of times. I'm 99% sure it was not made to order they probably had a big 10 gallon bucket of it on a burner somewhere in the kitchen, and they just gave me a couple scoops. Regardless of the fact that I didn't think it was spectacular it was just as I had expected it to be. I've had chicken and biscuits at many places and it tasted exactly right. My wife ordered a honey garlic pork dish which in my humble opinion was awesome. Kind of wish I had gotten that instead but, when I saw chicken and biscuits I just ordered it because that's what I do. The overall experience was perfectly fine. Like I said it's what I expected from this particular restaurant . The place was clean, including the bathrooms, everybody was very professional, it was rather busy being Mother's Day and it didn't really take that long for anything to come out to the table. (Yeah I know how long does it take to grab a couple scoops of chicken out of a 10 gallon bucket and put it on a plate but still they had to prepare my wife's meal so... the service was good) If I lived closer I would go back to this place a lot more often. I will also admit that my giving it five stars, some of you may be thinking well this guy has fond memories of Eddie's restaurant so of course he's going to throw it a high score, and yeah you're probably right. There's not a lot of dinner options in Slyvan beach so we headed to Eddie's restaurant for dinner. The place a packed! We did wait for about 10 minutes for a table. While we were waiting, we checked out the menu and the delicious pies they had on display. We were finally sat. Kristy took care of us tonight. It did take a minute for her to get to us. She was hustling a few tables. Drinks were ordered and we all breezed over the dinner menu. The menu is quite broad. Breakfast, lasagna, seafood, sandwiches... You name it, they got it. I ordered a bowl of clam chowder and shrimp cocktail for dinner. My daughter got the famous fish plate and my son got the tuna melt. Of course I was going to have a bite of their meals too. Clam chowder came out first. So did fresh rolls and homemade croutons for the soup. The rolls were good. I appreciate the amount of butter they give you. I love some bread with my butter. The homemade croutons were so good! They were savory and buttery! You added them babies to the clam chowder, delicious! The clam chowder was thick and hearty! Lots of potatoes and corn. It was on the cold side though. It was good but I'm sure it would have been better hot. The portion of the soup was huge! We all ordered cups and they were all bowl sized. Dinner came out and everyone's plates looked good. My daughter got two chunky pieces of fish on her plate. My son's tuna melt was thick with tuna. My shrimp cocktail looked really fresh. I honestly thought there would be more than just 5 pieces of shrimp. The shrimp wasn't the biggest. The cocktail sauce was heavy with horseradish and it was so good! The tuna melt was ok. My daughter's fish fry was tasty! It was fried perfectly and not too oily. The fresh haddock they use is so good. The fries were fried soft, my favorite. We were too full for dessert but thier huge dessert menu sounded so good. Maybe next time! Food was decent at Eddie's. The price point is pretty high but you do get decent portions, especially if you order fish. You can tell this joint has been a long time staple for Slyvan beach. We were driving through town on our way to Lake Placid and decided to stop and have a late breakfast at Eddie's. The town is so cute and it was the end of the season and they were so accommodating to us. We had waffles and soup and an incredible piece of banana cream pie. We highly recommend you come to Eddie's when they're open. They close from late October until March and it's been here since 1935 thanks for a Homie place to eat a meal! read more

Had a really great experience here and not sure why it's not rated higher. We came here as a party of 8 (with 3 kids) and were able to be seated within 15 min. Great place for children because it was relatively loud and relaxed. My husband and I split the 1/2 chicken Parm 1/2 lasagna and both really enjoyed it. I didn't grow up here, but I know this place is a Sylvan Beach institution. Hang out here long enough and you'll see folks running into each other whose families have summered here for years. It's the kind of small town charm you can't buy. You have got to know what to order here. The menu has grown over the years but the best dishes will always be the classics. The antipasto, fish fry, hot ham, bbq sandos and any of the sauce dishes will never disappoint you. Services here is always friendly and attentive. You get furloughs rolls for the table to start. Went to Eddy's foe the first time. Casual diner type place with nostalgic atmosphere. Food 2/5 stars. I had the prime rib sandwhich, new England clam chowder, and banana cream pie. Chowder was mostly potatoes and corn with a tiny piece or two of clams. Not very tasty. Prime rib sandwhich was overcooked and fatty. Np au jus but had horseradish sauce which was ok. Banana cream pie was huge and made of imitation banana pudding over a large cap of whipped cream. Hate to say it but if the food continues this way than Eddie's is headed for closure. Service 3/5. Waitress,while attentive, was always rushing about. She would place something was asked on our table and then hurry off. Eddies is a staple in Sylvan beach. This place on the inside looks like it's stuck in 1982. I started with the clam chowder. I think there was maybe one clam in it. It was basically a corn chowder. It's wasn't terrible it wasn't amazing. My wife ordered the chicken and biscuit special and I ordered a patty melt. I tried hers and the chicken was dry and the gravy was OK. My patty melt was solid. The caramelized onions were a nice touch. Service was a bit off. Server brought my soup but never brought my wife her salad. She also told my wife she would bring her extra gravy to bring home with the to go food. That never happened. 2 stars is a bit harsh but Yelp doesn't do 1/2 stars yet. read more

Only reason to go to this restaurant is for the experience. There are always interesting people here and a fun vibe. Don't go if you're hungry though. The food is terrible! My partner loves going here and I have tried at least 10 things on the menu and been grossed out every time. The only edible things here are the chicken pastina soup and the desserts. Eddie's is a fixture in the Beach, celebrating 90 years. The interior is showing its age so would you at the age of 90! Food is always dependable and good. Don't expect five star dining, it's a beach diner that has never claimed to be more. Salads and sandwiches are always good, sometimes you are lucky and get homemade chips right out of the fryer. Love their haddock and the chicken and biscuits weekend special. Don't forget to get a bowl of chicken pastine soup, even on a hot day it is a tasty treat! read more

We visited Eddie's on 6/6 Tuesday for lunch. Had 2 fish sandwiches and a BLT in our party. Also some crinkle fries. We all agreed our meals were delicious. The ladies were friendly and service was fast. The ambiance is plain but the food and service are the most important part. Price was reasonable also. I am picky about my food ex bacon has to be crispy, fish pieces thick and flaky and my fries have to be hot not Luke warm. With that it was a nice lunch! read more

Recently went to Eddie's again, not having been in years. I LOVE chicken riggies. And I specifically recall loving their riggies a few years ago when I last went. Service was wonderful, by the way. Our server was a sweetheart and very attentive and patient. I ordered the riggies, super excited, only for them to come out covered in a bright yellow/orange sauce. Reeked of Kraft cheese powder. I really wish I was kidding. I thought maybe because my immediate thought was that it looked like Kraft, was the reason I thought it smelt like that too. Unfortunately, whoever now runs the kitchen, thinks Kraft powder is an appropriate ingredient for chicken riggies. I ate probably 2 bites and took the rest home to be polite, since our server was so sweet, but immediately threw it out after the remainder of my family also found it gross. It didn't taste disgusting, but it was quite literally rigatoni, chicken, jalapeños, and mac and cheese sauce. The rest of my party was also unimpressed with their meals. I had the worst meal when we went to lunch at Eddie's yesterday, which was our second horrible experience in a couple of years. For background I am in my 50s and have come to Sylvan Beach (and Eddie's) since I was a young child. It is the only place I want to eat as it is a family tradition. In 2023 we went to dinner in the summer and my wife got a side salad with her meal. It was disgusting to be frank. The lettuce was brown and wilted, the tomatoes wrinkled and old and the cucumbers were not looking well. We showed our server and she said she would replace it and apologized. She forgot and brought our entrees out without the new salad. When I mentioned it she finally brought it out when my wife was halfway through her meal. We complained to a manger when we were leaving and her response was "well you got another salad, right? I don't see the problem." I pointed out that not only was the produce rotten but that our waitress had forgot to replace the salad at all. She said "I am sorry, but it's not like I can do anything for you. After all you did get another salad." I was appalled as a customer. The attitude and lack of care was galling. But as I said, tradition. We went to lunch yesterday and my wife ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich you could order fried or crispy. She did not want the chips but asked to upgrade to sweet potato fries, which were listed as a $4.99 upgrade. The chicken came and despite fried or grilled we were expecting a breast but it was like a patty you would get at the grocery store. Disappointing but she ate it. When we got the bill instead of the $4.99 she was charged $8.29 for the fries. We asked for a manager again and said we specifically asked to substitute for the chips. He explained that it did not work like that with sandwiches. Substitutions are for dinners only, not sandwiches. He even admitted that our waitress should have said it was a separate charge rather than an add-on. He apologized but said there was nothing he could do. But not only did our waitress say nothing but the menu does not state that you cannot substitute a side with a sandwich. Frankly I was disgusted as we were charged full price for fries versus a small upgrade. We paid and could not leave faster. There are many more restaurants in Sylvan Beach than there used to be and obviously Eddie's doesn't care for the individual customer versus the quantity of patrons. While it does sadden me I guess tradition, as well as quality customer service indeed is something of the past. read more

July 2022 - Eddie's has been one of my moms (80yrs) fav restaurants, she has fond memories of childhood summers in Sylvan beach & eating at Eddie's. We stopped recently on a Monday for lunch - she likes their fish sandwich. We were happy with the food & service, and it seemed the place had been better cared for & fixed up a bit since we were last there, many years ago (10 or more) it's still a casual family diner, a local business since the 1930s I think. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the food at Eddie's Restaurant. The fam and I were at the beach all morning and were looking for a good place to eat lunch. I refuse to eat at Harpoon Eddies, and I wasn't feeling pizza or fried food either so we decided to check out Eddie's Restaurant. It's your typical diner feel, with carpeted floors & uncomfortable booths & tables (they definitely need to do some renovations) but the food did not disappoint. They have a great menu and when I asked our waitress what she recommends she (surprisingly enough) recommended any of the seafood options and said that they are very popular. I ended up ordering the baked haddock dinner which comes with your choice of soup or salad (I got a salad with homemade house dressing- delish) and it comes with a side of your choice. I got the sweet potato fries of course. Super delicious. My cousins got the buffalo chicken sandwich, and a grilled chicken salad. They were both very satisfied. I wish I had room for dessert because they have an AWESOME dessert menu. Homemade pies, cakes, and some delicious sounding icecream creations. Also, try the raspberry iced tea! It's so good. The only downfalls about our experience here was 1. They are expensive especially for a diner.. For 4 adults + a toddler to eat lunch it was over $100 after tipping. #2 the service was slow (and they weren't even busy) #3 they do not have a baby changing table in the women's bathroom here. My cousin had to change the baby in a booth!!!! Absolutely unsanitary. But other than that, we had a good experience here. Much better than other restaurants I've eaten in on Sylvan Beach. Eddie's needs to retire, move out & let another restaurant come in that have good tasting food. Was here on Wednesday May 31st it was slow & it took forever to get our food & when it did arrive from the Kitchen it sucked asked everyone at our table how is your food all said it's ok. Waitress gave the plates to everyone & the food fall off the plate every time she put it in front of us & didn't say sorry. It's definitely time for a new business to come in. And it needs to be updated. Colors are to dark. read more

Try the pies! They are yummy! We always try to stop and eat at Eddie's for lunch or dinner when we visit family. The chips that come with the sandwich are home made, crispy and have a delightful seasoning of salt and some paprika or hot spic that makes it a good side. I had family here from the midwest over this past Labor Day Weekend. They have 4 small children so we decided to visit Sylvan Beach. After we all had fun at the carnival, it was dinner time and we decided to go to Eddie's for what we could only describe as a very disappointing experience. I paid almost $80 dollars for food which was awful. The chips were greasy and soggy, the pickles were completely forgotten (very tiny slices of sweet pickles, about 6,) and the kids' grilled cheese were cold. To add insult, because we chose to eat in the patio, we were charged for each container the food was in!!! That was 7 containers and cups!!! That's like picking up your take out, and having to pay extra for your pizza or food box!!! Eddie's used to be great food but in my opinion those days are gone. I was embarrassed as to where I treated my guests for dinner. When I called the manager and told her of our experience, she said any type of a refund wasn't possible but I would be sent a voucher for a return visit. I gave her my address wondering if I was better off giving it away to some friends who lived around the area. I decided to save myself and save the gas money. Where do I begin? This place is in dire need of a makeover. That doesn't mean it needs to lose its old-time feel, but when I walk in and the first thing I smell is mold, that isn't a good sign. Eddie's feels dated and dark inside, and it just gets worse as you sit down; the staff is the only bright spot in the building. After I was seated in a probably installed booth while Nixon was debating Kennedy, I looked over the menu and saw the usual items. My go-to in a place that I haven't tried yet (if they have it) is Chicken Parm because it is an easy dish to make, so a lot of places screw it up by phoning it in or overdoing it. It lets me know the chef's skill level without ordering something obvious. Well, Eddie's phoned it in big time. The chicken was frozen and not fresh (which is fine. This isn't a five-star place). The spaghetti was also cooked before I ever walked into the door. My guess is the day before, which isn't okay. It takes five minutes to make boxed pasta, and I get day-old stuff with "meat" sauce. Trust me when I say the food is terrible. It was tasteless because it was frozen and just tossed in a deep fryer and day-old spaghetti topped with what I guarantee is canned tomato sauce. So I decided I'd have a milkshake. They can't possibly screw that up, and well, yes, they can though not a big deal, just an odd choice. Instead of bringing it in a glass, I was handed a to-go cup with a milkshake in it to say that even though this place is nearly empty, you have been here long enough. I ate here once as a kid, and it wasn't like this. The food was good, the place didn't smell, the lights were turned on, and people were there. Perhaps the owners are just letting the place go or can't keep up with it, which would be sad because Eddie's has been a part of the local culture since the 30s, and it would be a shame if they can't sort it out. I'll stop by there again a little later in the season and see if maybe they worked out the early season kinks. If they did, I'll update my review. read more

Eddies has always been something we look forward to and we drive from central square which is almost half an hour drive but it's worth it. But today I was disappointed they were busy which is good for the business but when u order a 9 $ ham and cheese sandwich. U don't expected to be 2 white bread with 2 slices of ham it's. Skid size meal. I was disappointed and the waitress agreeed with me I did not want to order something else or would have taken long time to get so I had to bite the bullet and just deal with it. !!!!!! read more

We used to come to Eddies pretty regularly. Stopped there recently for dinner and were very disappointed. Unfortunately, food quality has gone down while the prices have gone way up. So now, it's basic diner food at expensive restaurant prices. Baked fish dinner was a piece of poached fish drenched in butter with no seasoning, topping or flavor. Dinner rolls were large, but lacked any flavor. NE clam chowder had an unpleasant flavor that we've never had in a chowder before--definitely not homemade! Lots of good memories at Eddies, but we will look for a restaurant that has better food and lower prices. I have been to this restaurant many times and I am always excited to visit. Their dessert menu is simple and delicious. Their pie is the main reason I try to stop in every now and again. It even held up to the picky eater standards of my best friend. We left with a smile. I will say, try to get there at least an hour before you plan on eating as they do get busy and there will most likely be a line depending on the season. My service animal with documentation and weighing a whopping 3 lbs . So we walked to this restaurant and went to patio area and ordered and visited with family from out of town . We are traveling from Georgia to New York and then Arizona and this lovely dark haired woman at the window was sweet and amazing and so friendly and the food was great ! They even gave me a biscuit for my service animal and there was a bowl of water put out . Thank you for being wonderful humans and wonderful service so that we could see family and rest . read more

Eddie's like a lot of the local restaurants are going to have to up their game SOON. The traditions of the past are wonderful but quality and taste and well cooked meals cannot be exceptions. The challenge is on now and for Eddies to continue to be a staple in SB they will have to do better. We ordered a "large" hot ham sandwich which was half the size expected, the fish fry meal I got had only one great thing. The fish was superb ! I ordered sweet potato fries that were undercooked and the salad had indicators that it may have been frozen: the tomatoes were mushy, dressing was tasteless. And lettuce was soggy. The prices have gone up, and food quality is down. First got clam chowder soup that came with our meal and it was cold. The soup had a lot of corn and few clams. Plus they forgot to tell us there was an up charge for the chowder. Ordered a root beer float, they asked if I wanted the diet root beer, and I said yes. The root beer came in a bottle with a glass with a scoop of ice cream. Got the bill and they charged me $4.29 for the float, and $3.69 for the root beer or just under $8.00, with tax and tip $10.00. Warning, check your bill, they are trying to over charge people that just pay the amount at the bottom. read more
