This place is one of favorite fine dining places to go to. The cook is from the original Chittenango Canteen restaurant. Have known the owners for many, many years. Food is 5-star quality, the service is always top notch. We know each other on a first name basis. The fricken Chicken fricassee is their flagship meal. The fried haddock and rib eye steak are my second favs. You can tell how good this place is, by the huge waiting line, each evening. We always go early, early bird dining, and they never mess up! Last ownership change resulted in better food & service, went from 3 star dining to 4 solid stars, maybe 5 stars! Note that Theodore's is at the old Rusty Rail location on Route 5, but owned and staffed by blending the great team from the former Delphia's in Chittenango with Rusty's unbeatables, a great move! Notably Famous for Chicken Fricassee with the Kopp's Canteen recipe, Theodore's outperforms with consistently flavorful home cooking and excellent service. Specials with buffet service are another winning area & the recent Comedy Club buffet was no exception. However, in view of the 'open bar' leading to a few unfortunate loudmouths and heckling, we recommend requiring a visible security presence in future 'open bar' affairs. read more

Came here for a quick drink the other night, wanted to eat something but had food back at the house to cook. The place is set up weird. We had to walk through the banquet/ eating are to get to this little bar area. Bartender was nice and the beer was ice cold. I had an Allagash White and a little Makers Mark as well. I want to come back and try the smoked wings. read more

Wow, I am a huge shrimp and scallop scampi fan and can I just take a second to tell you this place has hands down the BEST SCAMPI I have ever tasted and I absolutely love that it comes over rice!! I also got the potato puffs for the first time tonight and I am in love! The menu is easy to read and understand the staff is out of this world wonderful they are always smiling and happy. Nice find for a Friday night! Our party of four blissed out on Theodore's seafood offerings, including shrimp scampi, fried haddock, fried shrimp and seafood Alfredo. All entrees came out simultaneously and all were smoking hot. There was about an hour's wait between the time we sat down and the time our food arrived, but it gave us time to enjoy our drinks, salads, and an appetizer of onion rings, which were large, surprisingly light, and very tasty. Stopped here with a group of 8 after golf for dinner. None of us had been here before and all were pleasant surprised. Good food, moderately priced, great service and cold beer, what more could you ask for? All the items ordered were very good. The pork tenderloin was exceptional....not one complaint in the group. My husband and I went there for Thanksgiving dinner Thursday. The layout is odd but it works excellent. The banquet room served buffet for large parties. The front restaurant hosted the parties of four or less. The long hallway between the two areas acts as a great noise buffer. Needless to say it was relaxed and easy to talk. Thanksgiving Dinner was Delicious . Home made stuffing, gravy along with the moist Turkey and Roast Beef. Lots of side dishes and soups. The pies were good although not home made. ( most restaurant pies aren't.). There were cookies and fresh fruits and breads too. The waitstaff were attentive and very polite. We will be going back to try lunch and dinners now. The layout of the building is rather confusing. Getting from the main restaurant entrance over to where our party was being held required guidance from the staff through the squirrelly hallways into connecting rooms. There are many separate banquet rooms, on the way we passed areas where carts of dirty dishes from tables that had been cleared lined the hallways. Ours was a nice large room with plenty of space for our party of 80 people. The staff was kind, efficient & attentive, and the food was fair to pretty good depending on what you had. It was served buffet style, and there was a good variety of options that were nicely presented. The bathrooms are oddly placed, very small and very cold - the same temp as outside. There is no changing table, and with just 2 stalls in the ladies room, it made for lines of ladies waiting outside the door. I suggest they combine the adjacent men's room with the ladies room and move the men to another bathroom in the venue. That would allow for more stalls, a changing table, a full length mirror and proper heating. read more

If your looking for a place for catering an event I highly recommend Theodore's. These folks are amazing and extremely accommodating. Our daughter had a cater for her wedding and at the last minute we had trouble with them. With only 3 weeks to the wedding Theodore's stepped in and came to the rescue. We were able to customize the menu and the food was fabulous. Wish we contacted them first. I can not say enough good things about the food and service. Just attended Easter Buffet at Theodore's Restaurant in Canastota. Horrible meal, pasta dishes were Luke warm at best, red potatoes were not cooked all the way through and the dessert table was far from inviting with a chocolate fountain and a variety of store bought cookies and mini cupcakes. The cost for this was over $30.00 per person, (same charge for children over age 10. How much can a 10 year old eat?) But the kicker was when the bill came we found that drinks were not included and we were charged $3.00 per drink which came in a small paper cup for sodas and $3.00 for each small cup of coffee. By the time we added a tip for the waitstaff that delivered the overpriced drinks and picked up a few dishes while we served ourselves it was an expensive dinner out. I definitely do not recommend the buffets In this establishment. We have had wonderful meals prior to today but they were in the restaurant and expected so much more on Easter Sunday. We were excited for a dining out experience with everything that's going on and after an hour of waiting after we ordered were served a takeout meal. Cold sides and cold sauce in lidded cups. We won't be going back. read more

I should have known from the start that this dining experience was going to be a disaster. I had made a reservation for 6 people for 6 pm. They took my name and phone number and said see you at 6. We arrived at 6 and they didn't have our reservation, they did setup a table and we were seated by 6:15. Around 6:30 a waitress came over and took our drink orders and left, she came back about 10 minutes later with the drinks and took our food orders. Half of us had salads and half had soup,3 salads came out and 2 soups. We thought she went back to get the other soup, but she never came back. Finally our entrees arrived at 7:30 she said "do you still want the soup". My wife ordered prime rib medium rare it came out well done and we sent it back. My daughter in law's entree didn't come out and the waitress said "another waitress took it a served it to someone else". Waited again so they could prepare another dish for my daughter in law. I was a manager for a large central NY company and traveled all over NY and the US and ate in 100's of restaurants and this by far is the worst service I have ever received. It took 1:45 minutes for dinner. I had to give it 1 star to post my review, but it didn't deserve 1 star. NEVER AGAIN read more

This place was the worst most horrible customer service I've ever endured. I placed a pick-up order. They had me wait an hour and a half. I get there on time, the lady in the front proceeded to do tasks for 12 minutes before checking to see if my food was done, in wich it was not. I had to wait for them to cook my food about an hour and 45 minutes after my order was placed . We get home. They decide to serve their shrimp scampi on rice instead of noodles. NOBODY cooks scampi on rice. My girlfriend went back to explain that he wanted it over noodles lole every recipe served at any other restraunt. They were very very rude and told her she needed to look at their menu. Scampi is served the same (over noodles) everywhere . The lady scolded my girlfriend in the front as another lady in the back mocked her. Very unpleasant and unprofessional. So I get home to my meal wich was rushed to be made and was bad food as well. Not happy all I'd recommend 0 stars if I could. read more
