Recently I had been having issues with my Dell Laptop. Every time I turned the computer on, the screen showed "Repairing drives" and it would take quite a bit of time to fully boot up because of this. Also I would get a message on the screen periodically, "Kernel Data Inpage Error". It was getting to be cumbersome so I decided to check with a Computer Repair shop to see what could be done about it. I typed in "Computer Repair" on Yelp and this is the first business that popped up. I called them to see if the problems I was having were easily fixable. Eddie told me to bring my laptop down to his shop and he'd check it out for me. When he checked my laptop, he saw that I was on Windows 8.1. He told me the problems I was having were because I needed to update to Windows 10. Okay. We went over pricing and I left my laptop with him. He called me once he finished updating and said it was ready to be picked up. I asked him if he accepts credit card. He said no, he only accepts cash. Okay, fine. I turned my computer on that same evening and the very first and most important thing I noticed was that I couldn't scroll the pages up and down the way I was normally able to before with the mouse. Before the update, I was able to just place 2 fingers on the touch pad part of the mouse and scroll the page in whichever direction I wanted. That was not happening anymore and I had to utilize the page bar on the right. That was such a big hassle for me. Very time-wasting. Second, within half an hour of using the computer, there was a system error and it forced me to restore the computer. Not sure what he did that would have caused that. Keeping in mind that I hadn't done anything on the computer yet except look around the desktop and try to browse with a mouse that no longer worked properly. Okay, not a big deal. But after the system restore, I wasn't able to customize username or anything because it was asking me for a Product Key. Hmm, I wasn't given that. I headed back to Eddie's the following day to have the problems remedied. He fixed the customization issue, I assume by putting in the Product Key. I asked him for the Product Key, in case I needed to restore my computer in the future. He said he didn't have one to give me. What? Why not? Isn't that what I paid for?? What am I supposed to do in the future if another system restore needs to be done? Whatever, I didn't want to argue. I then asked him about my mouse not working properly. He said you can't scroll the pages with 2 fingers on the touch pad because that is not a feature of Windows 10. And that I had to use the bar portion on the right side of the page to go up and down. Huh? That didn't sound right to me. I said okay, thanked him and was on my way. I stopped over at a different Computer Repair Shop after leaving Eddie's and asked them about the mouse issue. He told me that it wasn't a Windows 10 issue and could easily be fixed. Which he proceeded to do after I gave him the go ahead. He had me test it afterwards and it worked perfectly. But I was out another $20. Which I really shouldn't have been if it was remedied by Eddie. Also, this computer repair shop said I absolutely should have been given a Product Key. Oh well, live and learn. Eddie was a nice guy and I hate to leave a bad review, but unfortunately, this was my experience and I will not be returning there. read more

I brought my Laptop in for a simple repair that just needed a part replacement. Unfortunately the model number on my computer was not visible anymore and finding the part could be a challenge. I was assured that he was going to try to find the part through a friend of his the next day and that i could leave my laptop there and he would give me a call with any updates. After three or four days and not hearing anything from him I tried calling him and asking what happened but he gave me a different story this time. He said his friend was coming at around 5 and that he would know by then and that he will call me, however, it was already six and still no calls from him so i called him again and still no part. I waited a few more days before I tried following up again and received no calls. After not getting in touch with me at all over two weeks I decided I should go pick up my laptop. When I arrived he said he had already ordered the part last week and was waiting on the part to come in on Friday and that he will call me(never mentioned this when i called). It's Friday and I have yet to receive a call and he has no part. I don't understand how so many people are raging about his customer service when I received ZERO follow up and my computer still doesn't work after two weeks. Also I should mention there is a sign that mentions that any computer left more than 30 days will be sold etc. Which is why I was hesitant to leave it any longer. read more

Yay, I'm the first. And I'm a gigantic fan. I first found Eddie's Computers seven months ago or so, while doing some online shopping to help a friend who wanted to buy a computer setup for her kids. It was time for them to have their own machine. But she didn't want to spend an arm-and-a-leg on it. I found Eddie's shop on Craigslist. It seemed too good to be true. $120 for a complete set up -- box, flat screen monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers? I called. It seemed legit. We buzzed out the 170 to Sylmar (tip: 170 to San Fernando Mission Rd. to a left on San Fernando Rd. to a L on Astoria. Make your first left once you're on Astoria, then a L onto Berg). He operates out of his garage. But what a garage! It's full of used desktops, monitors, and other peripherals. We told him what we wanted, and Eddie -- a stocky Latino guy who knows his stuff -- dug out a used HP desktop, Viewsonic 19" monitor, and the promised peripherals. Word loaded already, and XP operating system. Plus anti-virus and a few other programs. And not a junky box, either. More than 1 gig of RAM, and a big hard drive, too. Everything worked. $120 changed hands -- cash only, I think. And now, seven months later, it's still working perfectly. Can you spell B-A-R-G-A-I-N ? Then today, my own Dell Optiflex desktop wouldn't boot. I suspected a power supply problem.Called Eddie. He said bring it out. He was there. (I think he's always there!). He tested the power supply, which had gone bad. Looked around for a used one to replace it. (He'd told me $20 to do the replacement.) He didn't find one. He could have sold me another box, and I would have bought it, but at the last minute he went into the back and dug around some more. Back there, unearthed another older Dell, which he raided for its power supply for me! Everything got connected, and booted fine. But Eddie wasn't happy with the speed of boot, so he went into the system controls for me and de-listed some programs from automatic startup. That worked, too. Twenty dollars for part and labor. Are you kidding? B-A-R-G-A-I-N! So I can't recommend this dude highly enough. He seems to be open seven days, and well into the evening. Bonus: this part of Sylmar and San Fernando have some hellified Salvadorean restaurants. Get some pupusas while you're out there. Oh! Travel time from Studio City to his place?
