For a non-NY calzone place, it is decent. Definitely not the beat, but decent. Atmosphere: the location is perfectly located on the main Athens area. The inside is very relaxing, inviting, and thr employee always welcoming. The food: while basic, not the best, it is good value for what you get. The people: amazing is an understatement! My boyfriend and I came to athens for the botanical garden lights, but time we got done looking at the lights it was kind of late where everything were closing up. Eddie's was the only thing open nearby, so we went in and they cooked our calzone fresh. I ordered the chicken bacon ranch calzone, and my boyfriend ordered the meat calzone. The meat calzone was incredibly good! I had to order myself a meat calzone to-go because it was that good, but instead they gave it to me for free! I'm not sure why other people got horrible reviews on Eddie's but my experience was amazing. The customer service was incredible also. We ordered our calzones on UberEats. It said our food was ready so I went to the pickup area and gave the owner my name and he said it was in the oven. 30 minutes later it still wasn't ready. I asked him about it and he snapped back and said it was busy. I said you told me it was in the oven a half hour ago and he rolled his eyes and walked away. 30 minutes later I was still waiting on my food and he was ignoring me whenever I tried to get his attention. Honestly the worst service I have ever received. The person in front of me in line got their food in 25 minutes. It took an additional 45 minutes for me to get my food, and I'm pretty sure the only reason I ended up getting my food was because I kept asking the worker where my order was. So after waiting 70 minutes to get my food, my order was wrong. I ordered tots with bacon and cheese on them. There was no bacon. I also ordered some ranch. There was no ranch. If I could give negative stars, I would. That is how truly awful this place is. Save yourself the trouble and spend your money somewhere else. I went there tonight for the first time, I'm giving three stars really based on the service alone. They were very helpful and informative, telling me the calzone I ordered would take a little longer because of the ingredients I ordered. Long story short, the customer service was great. However, I have to take two stars off for just the quality of the calzone. It was small and really salty, and the ingredients I ordered (pepperoni sausage and jalapeños) really tasted generic. The tater tots I ordered were pretty good but, again, generic. If you are starving or desperately need some food after drinking downtown all night, this would be a good place to go. This is actually the worst calzone I've ever had. I'm 19 years old and I'm leaving a yelp review, if that says anything about how bad it really was. The dough was raw and tasted extremely old, the sauce I got was literally freezing cold, the ingredients were just not good at all, and was served on a paper plate. The mozzarella sticks were amazing. The ranch was high quality and the pull factor of the cheese on the stick was high. After our meal, we went to the bathroom right after an unidentified character decided to vomit in the hallway. Your employee Tammy was wonderful to us. Some people are rude and disrespectful when there is vomit on the floor but Tammy was kind and thoughtful and made sure we did not step in the mess. She was very careful asking us to step around and did an amazing job cleaning up whatever was done. We left with a very good feeling about Eddie's. Thank you for this positive experience. read more

The calzone was great. They only had one employee working for lunch and she did a fantastic job. The health rating is 83B. That is clearly the fault of the owner for having poor management skills. The employee I saw today was very clean. She drives from Atlanta and should get paid more. Average calzone is around 9 dollars. I had to give 3 stars because of the health rating. Really it needs to be improved, but clearly the owner is not managing all the employees. If the health rating drops below 80 I would suggest not eating here. I suggest everyone check the health rating before you order. The food was great. I would suggest the owner get the girl who worked today to manage the employees on the evening shift some. She knew what she was doing. And she was very clean. Something that the other employees clearly must not be too much of with a health rating of 83. They stay open until 4am. read more

This was my first time visiting and eating from Eddie's Calzones. I was going to go somewhere else and get a salad or something, but as I walked past Eddie's I was felt a force take control of me and heard the gentle whisper of my dark side tell me "... forget the diet. Treat yourself..." I wasn't up for a debate, so I obliged. I walked in around 12:30 lunch time and found the restaurant completely empty. No people eating, no one at the register, and all of the chairs up on the table. I wondered if they weren't open yet or maybe remodeling. But no, after a few seconds a guy came from the back of the restaurant and took his post at the register just as I was about to leave. This guy at the register gave off massive ex-con vibes. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't bad or anything, he just wasn't entirely sure how to be friendly. Again, not rude at all, I wouldn't want him fired, but I could see how some people might be rubbed the wrong way. If customer service were a river, Chick-fil-A would be the salmon jumping over waterfalls and this guy would be floating down the river with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. But anyway... I was so taken aback by the lack of customers, wondering if it was actually open, and wondering if my cashier had ever smiled past the age of 15 that I felt rushed looking at the menu overhead. I ordered a pesto calzone in my rush, because it was the first thing on the menu that I read. He asked me "for here or to go?" I looked around at all the chairs on the tables. "uh. To go." I gave him my name, paid, and sat down in a booth to wait for my order. He disappeared again. I guess he was also the cook. Huh. Luckily the wait wasn't long at all, and he called out my name to the empty restaurant. I don't know why I felt the need to say "oh, that's me!" as I got up, but I did. I am not proud. He handed me a plastic bag that held a Styrofoam container. I set out in search of a good spot to eat the calzone and eventually wandered onto campus and sat down under a shady tree. I popped open the Styrofoam and looked at that glorious calzone. It's big. And thick. On the side was a small container of marinara. I dug around in the bag for my plastic cutlery but there was none. Oh. I briefly debated going back to grab some cutlery but decided my hands were fine utensils just as long as the calzone wasn't too hot. So I picked that bad boy up with both hands and ate it like the Khaleesi biting into a heart on Game of Thrones. Immediately I thought "wow, Eddie does NOT go shy on the cheese." and I stick by that. That calzone was super cheesy. Easily a block and a half of cheese in there. My second thought was "is it raining?" because I felt droplets of wetness gather on my pants and shirt. But no, it was not raining. Grease was falling from the calzone and onto my clothes with every bite. I put the plastic bag over my lap to prevent further garment ruining, and continued on. Grease was dripping from my chin. Grease was dripping from both elbows. A small pool of grease had gathered above my upper lip and eventually made it inside my nose. "This is what you signed up for, you fool. This is what you get when you break your diet." I thought. But I kept eating. Damn, it was delicious. When I say that this was greasy, I mean that when I finally finished eating the whole calzone and looked at the Styrofoam box to prepare to toss it in the trash there was enough orange grease floating around there to easily drown a toddler or two. I went to grab the napkins from the bag to clean my, er, all of me, but just like the cutlery there were none. And I was soaked with grease. I struggled to pick up my cell phone and purse without transferring grease to them, but it was no use. They also got soaked. I tossed away my trash and immediately went into the closest building on campus covered in grease and marinara. The woman inside thought I was a student on tour, but immediately realized I was not when she saw marinara dripping from my face and I just yelped out "RESTROOM!" She pointed left in horror, and I rushed off. After roughly 20 or so paper towels and all the foam soap that dispenser could muster, I was finally clean. I snuck out past the woman who had greeted me and made the walk of shame back to the office. That night I woke up pleading with my body not to purge. I knew I had made a mistake and begged my gastrointestinal organs to just let me off with a warning. Unfortunately, they showed no such mercy. - TL;DR Service is strange. Food is delicious but greasy and I could feel my arteries clogging. Wear an apron and maybe some gloves. Be cautious if you don't have an iron stomach. read more

I'll give them credit for variety, but you can have 40 calzones on the menu and if none of them are worth getting again, why bother? We came in on a weekday night during winter break with a big group of 9 people. It looked like there was only one guy working, he took all our orders and we sat down to wait for our food. I ordered a basket of fries and one of tots so we'd have something to snack on while waiting for our orders. Everyone got their calzones one by one, he gave mine to one of my friends by mistake (luckily he noticed because his was supposed to be BBQ and I got Chicken Cordon Bleu). Eventually we all had our orders and were eating and no fries or tots. Everyone finished or decided to stop and take the rest home, so I was just about to get up and ask about canceling the fries and tots since we were ready to leave, when he brought them out. I'm going to go out on a limb here and figure Athens just doesn't get the concept of appetizers because that happened to me at Fuzzy's tacos as well. As for the taste of the food, no one was raving about their calzone, myself included. It was well cooked and generously stuffed with cheese, but the quality of the ingredients was lacking. The chicken in mine was pre-cooked and sliced (like the stuff you get in grocery stores in the lunchmeat section), the ham was chunks of boiled processed ham, the cheese was nothing special. The marinara for dipping was SUPER sweet, which yes some people like that but not me. Also odd was that they only had bottled or canned beverages, no fountain, and no ice. So cups of water were extremely awkward to request and obviously no refills. Finally, I have to mention their staffing issue. After we ordered, another guy came in to work and from what I could overhear, they got into a fight about the first guy (we'll call him supervisor) asking him to do something. Employee 2 was half-yelling at Supervisor for telling him how to do something, saying he'll get around to it and do it his way. Eventually, Employee 2 walked out. A customer who seemed to be a regular or a friend of Supervisor came in a bit later and Supervisor started ranting to him about Employee 2, even getting his cell phone to show the friend what Employee 2 apparently texted him. This exchange doesn't give me high hopes for this place, and I definitely wouldn't come back if I'm in the area again. But I guess it's a good spot for late night in a college town...although $9 for what you get isn't exactly cheap. read more

This place is terrible now. I've been coming here for 4 years, literally every night after bars. Eddie used to be in the front taking orders. Now you can order one of like 4 old pre-made calzones OR wait 40 minutes for your choice. WHAT THE HECK?! I'm shocked. I ate one of their free calzones. I'm glad it was free. Someone else said a glorified hot pocket. That's a good description. There was little in the way of chicken or bacon in the calzone, mostly just rather bland cheese. And dough. So much dough. They really should bake their calzones longer, because they are doughy and it's not all that appealing. Outside of the free event they cost $8.25 per calzone. That's probably about twice as expensive as they should be given the quality of the calzone. After giving this place 3 chances since it opened, I'm giving up. For a restaurant that specializes in calzones, I'm just not impressed. The calzones are not great but not terrible either. I'd rather get one from Mellow which says a lot because I try hard not to frequent chain restaurants. Also, no fountain drink machine? Just lol. What puts me off the most is the service. Eddie's has easily the worst service of any restaurant I've frequented in this town. The employees I've dealt with have been short and rude over the phone and equally as bad in person.
