a plate of food

I don't usually like leaving bad reviews, but this place left a bad taste in my mouth (literally and figuratively) Upon arriving, you'll have to seat yourself and hope you catch the waitress's attention. Not really her fault, she's the only one serving the entire small restaurant, but an acknowledgment of our existence should be the bare minimum right? Another customer waved us down and told us to get seated first and the waitress dropped off menus. Ecuadorian Dish - everything individually tasted just ok, together they tasted better. Overall pretty dry with some foods being overly salted or overcooked. Plantains - probably the best thing we had. Good texture and it was actually hot... Empanadas - the chicken empanada was the best out of the 3 we tried, the beef was entirely cold and you can tell they just heated up what they had in the freezer. We tried to flag down the waitress about this but she ignored us. Mango Smoothie con Leche - we asked about this a few different times after ordering it initially, seemed like the waitress forgot about it. Didn't taste great so wouldn't recommend ordering this. Took us another 20 minutes to wave down the waitress again to get the check. This place might be good if you're doing takeout only, but we will never be returning.

Beef tripe stew

I ordered stew tripe and fried shrimp off Uber eats. My first time having ecuadorian stew tripe and it was delicious. The fried shrimps was also perfectly cooked. Since this is Uber eats order I can't comment on service or the restaurants vibe but everything was packed very nicely and tasted great!

I had dinner last night for my first time and it was great. I enjoyed the food so much, it was delicious and simple. I will go back again 100%

I had an insatiable thirst for Seco de chivo (goatstew)so I went to this establishment the meal was delicious and the employees super nice ..only problem was I wish I had more meat and less bones and fat ..almost broke a tooth on a piece of bone

Shrimp ceviche

I recently found myself in the neighborhood and thought I'd have some Ecuadorian food for the first time. It's a tiny little restaurant with a few tables and chairs but the atmosphere is very cozy and colorful. The restaurant is heavily adorned in red, yellow, & blue (Ecuadorian flag colors). When I first walked in I felt comfortable enough to seat myself and a young lady approached me to take my order right away. She mainly spoke Spanish and I mostly English but together we both managed to go through some of the things on the menu. The menu is extensive and the prices appear to be fair. I finally managed to settle on the shrimp ceviche and my friend had a platter consisting of steak, rice & beans, and plantains. We also ordered these amazing yuca fries as an appetizer and it was accompanied by this phenomenal spicy green sauce. The shrimp ceviche was good and it came with a side of rice or plantain chips (chifles) for $12. My friend thoroughly enjoyed his steak and really appreciated how thin the meat was cut and how well it was cooked. Now for the negative.... Although I enjoyed my meal I didn't like that fact that I was hustled. During our meal my friend and I ordered 4 cokes in total. When I ordered my coke, I was never given the option of can or bottle but yet she kept bringing me bottles. With that being said, I didn't object because I assumed that they only had cokes in a bottle. After my meal I took a look around and I noticed every patron in there had cokes/sodas in a can at their tables and I started to wonder why I didn't get a can. When I received my bill I noticed I was charged $3 for each coke and I was disappointed because I felt like I was taken advantage of.

Bandeja Ecuatoriana. Guys it was a deeelight

First time eating Ecuadorian food and it was. A. Delight. Bandeja Ecuatoriana($13). Simply Amazing. The best chicarron (deep fried crispy pork) I have ever had. The potato cakes are also lit af (my niece taught me that. Minus the af. I hope). Key differentiator between this place and other spots with similar fare: really flavorful. Unique. Good stuff going on in your mouth in contrast to other unnamed highly recommended Latin restaurants around the city. Also, I'm an idiot. #didimentionitwasflavorful #itis The humidas appetizer ($3) was good. It tasted like creamed corn from a bougie restaurant. A little denser. You can really taste the rich creamy sweetness. But not overpowering. Only one other person at 8pm on a Monday Night. Perfect hole in the wall. Post meal, I had a major food baby and as a 210lbs Man with a healthy appetite, I only harbor minor shame about this. Viva Ecuador. PS. The service was great and staff very warm and hospitable. A nice reprieve...

The sardines were fried well, but just not as mind-blowing as I thought they'd be judging from reviews. My fav were the Tiger shrimps (sautéed) and the branzino (grilled). You could really taste the char, and they were cooked perfectly. We also got butter garlic linguine with scallops and clams. My husband loved the linguine (and the free bread) the most. The scallops were nice and plump but could have been seared more. The clams were tiny and I wouldn't get them again. The guy behind the fish counter was great. The server however was pretty slow. We waited 10 mins after choosing our fish for just tap water and eventually I just got up to ask the guy behind the counter for water. I also had to go up to the server myself to ask for to-go boxes and the check. And I got up to give the check to them, because they still hadn't taken it after my trip to the bathroom. Place is spacious enough for a family dinner, feels welcoming enough.

Our favorites were the Roasted Eggplant Dip (smoky and delicious) and the Grilled Spanish Branzino (grilled to perfection and well seasoned). For drinks, the Virgin Mojito was amazing and soooo refreshing that we had to ask our waiter for the recipe! Overall, it was such a pleasant dinner experience here!

Bring your own water, they don't serve tap - but do have plastic dixie cups. Finally went to Abuquir for an early dinner (Thursday - Saturday is the best for dining out & seafood Bourdain said). FYI don't go around Ramadan, when the baklava / kadayif bakery is open, but all the other restaurants close early. This restaurant is similar to Astoria Seafood, Hamido, & Sabry's where you place your order at the seafood counter first (including sides & drink) and then sit. Study the menu online, because the sides menu isn't posted anywhere except for the laminated sheet that the fishmonger hands you, waiting for your decision. The restaurant has about 20 seats (tables for 2 or 4) & more set up on the sidewalk. I got: $30.00 1/2lb Scallops (8 pieces) $18.54 1/2lb Tiger Shrimp (grilled, 8 pieces) $6.99 Side of Beets $6.99 Side of Babaganoush $2.99 1 medium 20fl oz. Poland Spring Water I was 1 of 2 early diners at the restaurant & everything came out pretty fast. The small cut up beets were delicious! There were big chunks of garlic marinated with it. Not a huge fan of Babaganoush, but wanted to try this there and it was very creamy & good too (no real strong flavor, a healthy drizzle of olive oil on top). IDK if the sides have been this size pre-NYTimes, but they are extremely small (6" diameter plate) for $6.99. There is lots of olive oil drizzle on top of things, take note if you're limiting oil. The bread that came with it was either overcooked - or it might have been the typical style? It was EXTREMELY leathery & almost dark tan pita-cracker like. I ate it with the meal but got extremely tired of chewing. Not sure if you can ask for free refills of bread. A google search for "Egyptian bread" shows some decent Soft puffy pita. There was a case with drinks: soda, mango juice, mediterranean fruit juice, maybe beer? The seafood was VERY fresh. Scallops large, very Lightly seasoned with a reddish seasoning. Was just slightly underdone for me but still good. The Tiger Shrimp was Excellent & cooked perfectly. It comes sitting on top of a pool of oil and seasonings/parsley, but the flavor wasn't strong enough for me to make out. I'm not sure what Egyptian seasoning for seafood is or should taste like; it wasn't very noticeable on the items that I ordered. Seems like the freshness of all the dishes were the focus. Staff is nice & attentive. The owner was at the table next to me putting in weekend orders. Chatted with him about a new café on the block. A few solo diners come in casually & seemed familiar with the place. Glad I tried it, but probably wouldn't go back because of the price point.

Service (5/5): We arrived around 8p on a Sunday evening and it was jammed packed. They had an opening right when we arrived which was super lucky. They were attentive throughout our experience. We were glad that the server's recommendations to # of plates was proportional to our needs. Food (5/5): every single dish was outstanding! The starter was a complementary hummus with the softest, moist, pita bread. I could've easily eaten this and been happy. Our favorite was the baked Halloumi with honey, fig jam and cranberries. The exterior had a nice crust from the caramelized honey. It was rich but paired well with the table pita (which they kindly refilled!!) The next item was Shieftalia pork kebabs which seems so easy but was filled with flavor from the onions and herbs. It paired well with the yogurt sauce. Lastly, we had the baked eggplant (almost reminded me of a Greek version of eggplant parm), this lacked a little flavor but still very good. Wish this dish had a bit more spice. The 3 appetizers were large in portion and enough for the 2 of us to share. We loved it and can't wait to come back!
