This is a review about the honesty and professionalism of Jeff from Ecology Exterminating. I had contacted him after observing a large pile of reddish dust in my basement which I thought might be from termites. When I told Jeff I had taken photos of the dust he told me to send him the photos. Three minutes after texting them to him he called me back and said it looked like it could be from termites and that we should set up an appointment for the following day. Jeff arrived with a large, bright flashlight and then after inspecting the dust he told me that the dust was from an exposed crumbling brick located above. He also said the photo I had sent him yesterday looked like it could be termite activity and that's why he needed to see it in person. Jeff then then inspected the area and the rest of the basement. At one point he thought he saw some activity in a wooden beam, but then when he jabbed it with a screwdriver and confirmed there were no termites. I really appreciate Jeff's honesty and would definitely call Ecology Exterminating again in the future. read more

If they do have "new bed bug technology" as they claim, then good for them- they didn't have it when they treated my apartment. They failed to eliminate bed bugs for five months and kept my cheap, shady landlord loyal to them by offering her "year-long guarantees." Year-long guarantees. Bed bugs aren't supposed to be in your apartment for a year. But that's how they get their business. They find stingy and lazy landlords and offer them a guarantee that, for a low-low price, they will give you ineffective bedbug treatments for a whole year. Then they tell you that you're "bringing the bugs back in," despite the fact that the bugs keep reappearing in the same places no matter how many treatments they do. read more

After being royally screwed by Orkin, 75 Nassau, New Hyde Park location, (notorious for no-call-no shows, so of course they never showed up) I was left scrambling to find an exterminator to service my apartment on Christmas Eve. I went to yelp, plugged in my ZIP Code, and found Ecology and noticed that they provided 24 hour service. I left a message with their messaging service and the very next morning (Christmas eve morning) received a phone call from Jeffrey. I explained my situation and got appointment for 3 PM on Christmas Eve. Joe showed up on time, prepared with all of the necessary tools to battle pantry moths to the death, helped me empty out all of my cabinets, sprayed my entire unit, and helped me replace every item. It's businesses like this that make me feel good about supporting small and local. Ecology literally saved my Christmas eve. Joe was in and out in less than two hours, and I was happy to note that there was no strong chemical odor. They use plant-based product that is safe around children and animals. And the price? They charged me for three visits what Orkin was going to charge me for one visit. Friendly, efficient, reliable, good communication, they return phone calls, they accommodate requests on holidays, you speak to the owner, he makes your appointment and sends his technician... Excellent curbside service but am now disappointed that my favorite pesticide Permakillz is not producing their perfect product anymore

Had a recurring mouse problem. Decided to try out Ecology Exterminating. Boy, did I make the right choice! They showed up when they said they would and called in advance when they were getting close. The owner (Jeff) and his son (Jared) came to perform the service. They explained how and why the mouse got into the house and how they would remedy the problem. They did their thing and the next morning the mouse was trapped. Ecology has been to my apartment several times to take care of a beg bug issue. Although they are good at communicating and treating apartments when needed, they have yet to get rid of this issue. I believe the beg bug issue is a building wide problem and neither my roommate or I had any issues BEFORE moving into our apartment last fall. The company claimed the issue was coming from a futon that I brought from my home upstate and said I had to throw it away before they treated the apartment again. Unwillingly, I threw out my "infested" futon and even that yielded no results. Now, the company is blaming my roommate for breeding bed bugs, brining the issue into the apartment in the first place and the company is no longer being professional/respectable while communicating over the phone. read more

SCAM! We had summer ants and I paid for 3 sessions ($266.74) starting in early May. The first session was great and I've been trying to contact them for the last two sessions and have not been able to get in touch. I've called and left several messages to no avail and it's July 1. read more

Waterbugs: We successfully dealt with our water bug issue on our own without the help of Ecology Exterminating Service. NATURALLY and cheaply. A combination of cleaning everything with vinegar, dusting with Borax and Diatomaceous Earth in the cracks and across the threshold from the outside, they are gone, finally, without the assistance of Ecology Exterminating Service. They told me we can never get rid of them, but I vehemently disagree, we've done it without their toxic chemicals and monthly visits! read more

Awful. They have been hired nine times by my useless landlord to get rid of bed bugs, with no result. It's been 11 months, we are still drowning in bugs - no improvement. They send new, and increasingly incompetent exterminators every time. One time they got the super to lock them into the apartment when I was not here, and I didn't even noice they had "worked" here, even my books on the bed had not been moved. Literally, they had done NOTHING except for trespassing. The young guys they keep sending claim to be "experts" and are very rude (the last one went searching for a cell phone charger in my room mates room, who does that?! And then kept pushing me to go out and buy food for him. I was so annoyed at him and glad when I finally had him out of my apartment) when I try to tell them where I think the bugs are hiding, they don't believe what I'm saying (although so far I've been right in everything) and shut me up by sarcastically asking "who is the expert here?". Well, certainly not Ecology Exterminators. I have now had to civil court (who contrary to Ecology Exterminators took everything I said very serious and listened to what I said and actually looked at the pictures I had of the bugs for example hiding in the brick wall cracks - which the useless Ecology Exterminators keep insisting bed bugs don't do. So I have mutant bugs, is that what you're saying? They have been in my wall for eleven months, you can SEE them crawling there!! Omg, I have a gazillion pics of them hiding in the wall cracks, I am looking at them right now! LISTEN to the people who actually live here, with the bugs, instead of acting cocky, arrogant and condescending) for advice on how to put pressure on the land lord to make him take this serious issue more serious, and finally go with someone else who knows bed bugs better. Do NOT hire Ecology Exterminators to get rid of bed bugs. You will not get rid of them and just do a lot of laundry and packing and repacking over and over for no reason until you hire a proper bed bug company. read more

Let me tell you something... If you are looking to get rid of your roach problem call these guys and ask for RUBEN. He is the only person who is competent at this company. He has over 10 years of experience in this business and it is evident through his knowledge and thoroughness. The good stuff: Ecology uses chemicals that are safe for the environment as well as safe for small children. When you hire them, they are contracted to come to your residence three separate times. (If you are obsessed with living bug free like me, this is AWESOME) They usually come within a day or two for your first visit. OH and lastly, the treatments they use actually work the first time, the other two times are just a bonus. The not so good stuff: The worst customer service EVER. So you, as the customer are required to schedule the next two times. I can't express this enough, stay on top of these guys! When I scheduled my last two visits, they never showed up BOTH TIMES. When I called, they said they did not have me down for that day. The first time, I thought oh maybe I wrote down the wrong date and time. But when it happened the second time, I knew that there was something wrong at the root of this company. Bottom line: If you are a business, home owner or renter looking to get rid of roaches hire Ecology only if they send RUBEN. The other guy is not so meticulous and perhaps a bit jaded from being an exterminator for 40 years. Thanks! And happy roach hunting :) read more

After our complaints, a new service man came. He fixed more holes and put more poison. Since then we have not seen more mice. The man (I suppose his name is Jeff) now calls regularly to check whether we have seen mice or not. Hopefully there will be no reason for the next visit. read more

I had a horrible ant problem in my kitchen and called 2 other exterminating companies who could not fit me into their schedule. I was quite annoyed and then I called Ecology and spoke with the owner of the company and he sent someone over later that afternoon!!! It was amazing to get such excellent service so quickly.... and NO MORE ANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I highly recommend this company and will be using them for any other future problems. I LOVE Ecology! I had a terrible mouse problem and another exterminator came, took my money, and did nothing but leave traps around, which these wily NY mice just laughed at. Ecology guaranteed to get rid of them, and they did. They stuff up every hole in the house, pull out all the stoves, and it really works. They also regularly treat my house for water bugs. read more

Fantastic. We have a recurring problem with ants every year, and every year these guys come in and hundreds of ants disappear. Not only that but when you call them they treat you like you're the only customer they've had all day. They're kind, they apologize sincerely for any waiting, they work with your schedule. Wish I could give negative stars. If you love termites in your house, then go with this place. They baited my traps and I still got a swarm! Then I made an appointment for them to inspect the problem and they guy didn't have additional materials and wanted to make yet a third appointment. When I called again to inquire why they couldn't figure out how to fix this problem, the guy (Jeffrey) yelled at me to stop asking him rhetorical questions. He apparently doesn't know the definition of rhetorical since I actually wanted an answer. I scheduled a third appointment for them to come back and then they no-showed because they didn't have it booked! They are wildly unprofessional, unskilled, and lack knowledge. This review is specifically for Kevin from ecology exterminating. Kevin came to help with a mouse problem. Upon attempting to let him in, I stupidly locked myself out of my 2nd floor apartment. I was freaking out a little, no keys, no phone, no shoes (I know, I don't know why I stepped outside, not my best moment). So anyways, as I'm panicking outside my front door, Kevin proceeds to go with my neighbor into her back yard, hop the fence to my yard, scale the building to my second floor balcony, open the back door and come to my rescue. He went completely above and beyond his job description (understatement of the century) and saved me from a potential 3 hours of waiting barefoot on my stoop for my boyfriend to come home. Excellent, I had a problem with roaches when I moved into my new apartment. I was so disappointed as my rent is high and the building had such a great reputation. It turned out our landlord is so cheap he won't hire a private exterminating service for the building. We also have a family or two who I'm told have very dirty apartments. One night a saw a large roach in my bedroom. I was in tears. I called Ecology and asked to have someone come right away. It was so last minute that no one was available so the owner came himself! They have been coming to me now once a month for almost 2 years and I could not be happier. I have not seen one bug since! Also, so reliable, never late and the guys they send are professional and very nice. I could not be happier and I strongly recommend them. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. read more
