One of the easiest five-star reviews I've ever written. We saw ECJ cleaning receiving high praise on Nextdoor, and gave Emely a call to deep clean our basement apartment between renters. Her price was lower than everyone else we had called, and she had availability to come out right away. We never saw the handiwork before our new tenants moved in, as we were out of state, but upon our return back to DC, we called ECJ again in desperation to clean the main house. We had been away for nearly 3 months, and it turns out that an unoccupied house can get pretty gross. We had a rude welcome back full of dead bugs, mouse poop, cobwebs, dirt and dust (how?!) and an overall staleness. Well, in two hours, Emely's team of two zoomed through our house and made it SO clean. They. didn't. miss. a. beat. The trash/recycling was taken out and the inside of the trash can was clean! The inside of appliances and the refrigerator - clean! Radiators, corners, stairs, railings, window sills: clean, clean, clean. Spotless. The women worked fast and efficiently, they brought their own supplies and left the place spotless and smelling that wonderful sanitized scent. I'm always hesitant to hire out cleaning services because I always say that no one will clean your house like you will and pay attention to the detail and get all the nooks and crannies that these old DC houses have. I was so wrong. ECJ cleaning did a fantastic job and at a very competitive rate. We will hire her team for all our cleaning needs and make deep cleaning a regular for us. read more

I will not be using ECJ ever again. The last time I hired them, walking into my apartment felt like a breath of fresh air, like a weight lifted off my shoulders. This time, it felt like I hired someone to just move stuff around and I'm left with more on my to-do list than I had before they came. My apartment was decently tidy, so I was mainly looking for actual cleaning, especially as I'd recently had a mouse problem. When I booked, I made a note about the mouse issue and I asked to add on the window track cleaning, since that wasn't included last time. I walk in after they leave, and there's still mouse poop in certain areas. And the window tracks are still dirty. Upon further inspection, I see that baseboards are still grimy, the kitchen floor is not swept. There's a scrub pad left in my sponge tray, and my own sponge has a substance on it I don't recognize. My office desk, left messier than it was when I left. Dead bug under something, meaning they cleaned around it rather than removing the item to clean the space fully. They vacuumed my couch and ottoman but not the rug in the same room??? I'm just baffled by the choices made here. I asked them not to touch the bed. They did anyway. Bedding that I'd put off to the side because the mice had gotten into it somehow ended up on my clean bed. A brand new weighted blanket (which can't be thrown in the laundry) was placed in an area the mice had taken over. An item with a mouse turd on it was placed on my makeup vanity. (So not only did they not clean the item, now my vanity is contaminated.) Idk if these cleaners are new, or if they were just having an off day, but I'm struggling to see what they spent 3 hours cleaning. (2 people, 1.5 hours each) They did an okay job with stuff like the oven, fridge, bathtub, etc. But they failed completely on stuff I actually cared about. Emely was understanding enough to charge me only for the standard cleaning fee rather than the deep clean fee, but the more I look around, the more I feel like I was still overcharged. She offered to send the cleaners back, which I appreciated, but I had already left home again and moved on with my day. read more

I'll start by saying once the logistical nightmare was over, the actual cleaning of our apartment was spectacular and well worth the price. I went through "yelp projects" to request quotes from several cleaning companies for a move out clean. ECJs full move out clean was the most comprehensive and reasonably priced ($199 for a 2 bed, one bath of about 1000 square feet) and they had great reviews. I messaged with two of the owners and booked a clean for a Sunday a few weeks out (they are one of only few cleaners with Sunday availability which was a plus). They confirmed and said their cleaning crew would be there between 9-10 am. Because we had been communicating via Yelp chat, I requested a formal confirmation which was sent to me via text by the owner. The owner mentioned in the text that the cleaners would be there between 8/8:30. I didn't think anything of the discrepancy at the time. On the day of the cleaning, I texted the owner at 7:45 to ask for an updated ETA. 8 am came and went, as did 8:30. I texted a few times, and I called with no response. 9 am came and went and so I desperately emailed with an address I found on their site, messaged via Yelp again and DM'ed them on Instagram. By 10 am I still had heard nothing and I had to leave to go pick up a rental car (I was leaving town and had a 6 hour drive ahead of me). Finally at 10:30 I received a text from the owner apologizing, stating they had written down our appointment for Monday. She offered to send a team out in about an hour but it was already too late and I had to leave. She said she would give me a call to coordinate a rescheduling but by 1:45 pm I still had not heard. I texted again to follow up and she finally called me. We scheduled the cleaning for Monday morning at 11:30 and she offered a discount to make up for it. I was honestly nervous about potential flakiness especially because our move out inspection with our management company was at 2 pm the next day which would impact our ability to receive our security deposit back in full. I put a lot of trust in them that they would show, after feeling pretty let down that day. My roommate got to the apartment at 11 on Monday to wait for the cleaners and at 11:30 they still had not arrived. She called the owner who was confused saying the team had wrapped up a previous cleaning at around 9:30. My roommate went downstairs to our lobby to see if they were there. Half an hour later she ultimately found them at a nearby building, waiting, as if they did not know where to go or have any way to contact the owner to figure out where to go. The team of three came and cleaned the apartment top to bottom and were finished in about 2 hours. Overall, this experience was far more stressful than it had any reason to be and I actually ended up incurring with several unnecessary costs as a result (I would have left town the night before if I knew the cleaners were coming Monday so one extra night in a hotel, I also missed my car rental reservation waiting for the cleaners so I had to pay extra to get to and rent from another location). The owner was mildly apologetic but not as on top of rectifying the situation as I would have liked. The discount was much appreciated and the quality of the actual service luckily made up for it. I would recommend to the business to implement a more formal appointment confirmation system and improve communication with clients. And as a client, make sure you double, triple confirm in advance and get multiple forms of direct contact information for the owner/team. read more

ECJ Cleaning and Construction Services - Move out deep clean - Home Cleaning Near Me

We had good experiences a couple of times--BUT during our most recent cleaning, cleaners from ECJ badly damaged our hardwood floors (cuts more than a quarter inch deep, including several measuring 6-8 inches and one that's over a foot) in the middle of the living area. ECJ initially offered $30 (yes, THIRTY DOLLARS for badly damaged hardwood floors) and then--maximum--offered to refund the cleaning fee, neither of which will come close to covering the cost of repair. It's been two months since I made them aware, sent photos of the damage, and specifically asked them to start the insurance process... yet they keep going dark/failing to respond for weeks at a time. I have yet to hear from their insurance, and so far there's been zero evidence that they actually intend to do anything but drag their feet and hope I forget about it. We gladly would've hired the cleaners again, too, if they'd shown even a little interest in operating in good faith to make things right. As it is, I recommend steering clear and finding a business that has enough integrity to own and fix its mistakes (ideally without months of prodding, though in this case even that doesn't seem to be getting anywhere). EDIT: the owner's response (below) to info and photos I've provided multiple times over the past two months is extremely telling--as is the fact that her latest email basically said if the insurance process is taking too long (TWO MONTHS and it has yet to start), then we should resolve this in small claims court. What a customer experience! STAY FAR, FAR AWAY! EDIT 2: after reading this review, the owner emailed me to say all future communications should go through her ATTORNEY (screenshot attached). A pretty stunning escalation--I guess if they damage your home, do nothing for months, and then you tell the truth about it, ECJ gets litigious. read more

The owner has no accountability for her actions. Horrible from the beginning and when corrected will make excuses every time. They caused over $4,000 in cancellations for airbnb we attempted to work with them and excuse this but it got to the point where the owner attempted to speak to me like I worked for her. In her mind she actually believes this. Her employee said, " Your business depends on us cleaning." So we fired them on the spot. They stole our towels as they did not drop them off, they told me to pick them up, but we are not doing this and will be reporting the theft with the police, because we did not remove the linens they did. Note: The owner is a habitual liar. In her response she admits to keeping our materials and not placing them where she found them. This is all around bad information and also this is not my name. I represent the management company that hired you to clean for the airbnb. I do not even understand HOW you have a license to operate in the city of DC, we will definitely contact DC about this. read more

They did such a beautiful job with my space. Honestly it had been really messy and I was very worried i wouldn't be able to find someone to help clean it. We had to have relatives come to my Aunt's Home and she needed a deep clean very quickly with no notice. I called ECJ Cleaning on behalf of my Aunt on a Friday afternoon at 430pm. I had never spoken to them before. They told me they could get a crew over in next 20 min and sent 4-5 people (maybe more for last two hours) to do a deep cleaning of the house. They quoted a fair price and were able to execute on the same day which again was a FRIDAY afternoon before Holiday week. The feedback from my family was that their work was incredible! The house was fully cleaned and organized! We will be using ECJ from now on and recommending to all of our friends and family! read more

I originally contacted ECJ for a few projects. I was looking for cleaning, grout repair, a drywall patch, and a door reframing. The drywall patch was repaired somewhat okay but the handyman did not bother to sand and left creases in the wall. The handyman looked at our crumbling grout and basically told us he could fix it but the floor was uneven and looked poorly installed so he advised replacing the floor. We are nervous first time homeowners and were in a time crunch so we decided to just go head and redo the floors. He began demo while we went to pick out tiles. We pick out a 7" hex tile and bring it back to the house where the handyman starts complaining about our tile choice because it's not the 20 x 20 1990's tile that was in the bathroom before. He says it's an extra charge because it is smaller and will take more time. We agreed to the extra charge and proceeded with the floor. At this point, it's too expensive for us to do the door reframing or the cleaning, so we drop those from the quote. He also says we should raise up the floor to give it extra support and that it will cost extra as well. We specifically asked if he would be able to reinstall the toilet correctly, as the flange was at the floor level and would need to be higher to correctly fit to the toilet. He said he would address it so we agreed to lift up the floor. Here are all the points at which we were dissatisfied with the work (pictures attached and labeled). First, the handyman used two chipped tiles despite our 3 extra boxes of good tile. When asked to fix the chip (we had only noticed one at the time), he came back and put grout over the chip instead of removing and replacing the tile. This was a small chip that we hadn't noticed before, and the big one we actually wanted fixed was left unrepaired. When he came back he also added quarter round that was not there before, and that we didn't ask for. It does not look good. It's hard to show in photos but the tiles vary in height, and the grout application also varies, sometimes very little was used and sometimes too much, the overall affect is sloppy. We asked for compensation for the chipped tiles after it was clear the handyman was not actually going to fix them. It took us reminding them 3 days later but we did get the reimbursement for the tiles. Finally, the worst part of all is the toilet. Remember his assurances the flange would be adjusted to properly seal the toilet? Well we finally moved in and start using the toilet (brand new, previously perfectly working) to find that each time it is flushed, about a cup of water flows onto the floor. We contacted ECJ and asked for a reimbursement for the incorrectly installed toilet. I was told the only thing they could do was to send the same handyman back to fix it. At this point, we didn't have faith in the quality of their work. My partner told me he doesn't want the handyman anywhere near our house and I agreed. We had our regular plumber come by and he discovered just how carelessly and recklessly the toilet was installed. The toilet was not correctly attached to the flange. When the floor was raised for the tile he added nothing - no extender, no replacement flange. So there was not a connection and water flowed everywhere. At this point ECJ has already told me they will not compensate because we didn't try their tech first. Why would we? Why would we trust someone who screwed up a toilet installation that badly to come have another whack at it? No, thanks. I informed ECJ of what the issue was and they basically said they didn't believe their tech would install a toilet that poorly. Well, they did. Why would we give ECJ another chance? These ladies are the best. When we moved out, Pepco misunderstood our instructions and cut the power to our house before our scheduled appointment with ECJ. Not only did they still show up when I called to tell Emely what happened, they worked hard and fast, with ZERO complaint, in the dark and with no AC. We had a flood in our apartment and had to move out so it could be re-carpeted. There are still a lot of boxes which I said as I booked the appointment. I also said that the apartment needed a deep cleaning and a carpet scrub from the mud the movers got on the carpet while moving us back in. Mostly all I needed was the carpet cleaned, 1 small bathroom and the kitchen cleaned. They gave me a good quote and a time late in my time frame but in it so I agreed. First they showed up 2.5 hours late and did not call I called them and they acted like I was nuts to think they should be there in the hour time frame they quoted me because they were so busy. Then when they got there they looked at the apartment that I admitted needed a deep clean and said that I had not given them the right information. That I said it was just a standard cleaning and that they did not have time to do what needed to be done. They had said they would spend as long as it took but it usually took 2 hours for the number of work I said, now they said that with the three people they had they only had an hour and half to give us and that they were going to have to charge more if I wanted them to clean. It went from $150 - $250 not including the carpet cleaning, where I was providing the machine and the solution all they had to do was run the thing. Basically they said they would work for an hour and half see what they could get done in the kitchen and bathroom but it would cost me $250. I told them to leave and my sister cried and had a panic attack. Do not use this company they are scammers!!!!! This is a follow up: Immediately after posting this review the owner of the company called me. She did not want to apologize or know how she make any of this up to me, she wanted to know why I had defiled her company with a one star review because she is good at her job and went out of her way wasting gas to come to my apartment to look and didn't even provide service so how could I give her a review of any kind. I asked her if she had actually read the review as much of it was about her attitude, bad timing and so on and she said no I just saw it was one star and that is bad for my company. After trying to explain where I was coming from, that she was 2 hours late with out a call for instance and her arguing with me I finally hung up on her. So I will say again DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! The most I can say is that they may be great cleaners but good luck actually getting the to do it. Final update, saw the owners response and would like to just say that my health hazard of a house was cleaned by another company that night in 3 hours no less. They sent 3 workers, charged $175, did everything I asked ECJ to do and did a phenomenal job. Each cleaner got a $25 tip, the company was professional, kind and lovely and offered to put us on a monthly cleaning schedule. This is how a company SHOULD be run! read more

This was my first time using ECJ Cleaning. When the owner showed up as one of the cleaning ladies, I knew the job would be top notch and it was. Emeley and her assistant were no nonsense. They wasted no time! They cleaned my moms house very quickly, but thoroughly. They were both very sweet ladies. What impressed me the most is Emeley charged me the exact price she quoted me without even seeing the house. She didn't try to go up on the price after the job was done I appreciate her integrity. I ended up paying her more though, because her service was definitely worthy of a tip. Emeley also said I can call them anytime for a one time cleaning. I don't have to agree to a monthly cleaning , leave a credit card on file with them, or adhere to any of the annoying practices most cleaning services require. I will be using ECJ again. read more

I used ECJ for a house cleaning in March of this year. Emely was so easy to work with and is one of the few DC-area house cleaners i could find who offers cleanings on Sundays. We arranged everything via text, she showed up at the appointed time, and I paid via Venmo -- completely hassle free!
