Weekend roadtrips have not been on my radar for quite sometime, but the Besties Birthday required that I change my mind, put the pedal to the metal (if it's still metal), and hit the highway. St Simons Island has great coastal views but we wanted to eat and see at the same DAMNED time so we visited this posh place. Boy are we glad we did! This eatery is housed in a pretty upscale hotel on the beach and the food is amazing. Not only is the food good, the service is impeccable. So we wanted great food for lunch, great vibes, and great views. You get it all here. # FACTS I wanted the crab sandwich and Bestie wanted a burger. We always share so we'll have a chance to taste each others choice. We both opted for truffle fries and the southern staple sweet tea. Our server, Keilani (sp?) was obviously listening because when she presented our plates we saw that she'd already split our sandwiches and placed 1/2 of each on our plates. This was amazing and the first time anyone has ever done this for us. How thoughtful of her. The crabcake sandwich was full of tasty crab meat. The burger was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The fries were heavenly with the right amount of crisp. I loved every moment of our visit and we're already planing our next visit here. read more

Great food--exceptional Grouper, and grits, too--but tables were sticky and DIRTY and FULL OF FLIES!! Everywhere, there were flies. Hostess said they are aware and trying to correct the problem. How about closing the place for a big scrubbing??? Service was absent, empty cocktail glasses sat with us through dessert. Management didn't care. Manager Dennis "off today" and young man " in charge" started a few days ago. He didn't know what to do. What a shame. This oceanfront restaurant is located in The King and Prince Resort. Loved sitting outside on the patio. Beautiful view and ambiance. Like others have noted, service was friendly but very slow. I think we had been seated a solid 10-15 minutes before anyone came to get our drink order. Server was friendly but definitely seemed busy/rushed and we would go long periods (and empty wine glasses) without seeing her. Our scallops and shrimp and grits were great. The portion for the shrimp and grits was huge, definitely enough for left overs. Good cocktail menu, and our server gave us cups to go for our last glass of wine and beer which we enjoyed as we walked around the property. ECHO is the restaurant part of the King and Prince Resort. Of mild concern is what happened to the Queen and possibly the Princess. Palace intrigue. Hopefully, the Queen and Princess, if there was one, didn't go the way of the Romanovs. Or any of the royalty from Game of Thrones. ECHO pays homage to the King and Prince hosting the US Navy during WWII as a radar training installation. Its a nicer, historic nod than referencing the 23 sailors killed when a German U-Boat commander blew up 3 ships off the coast of St. Simons. That guy is still alive in Germany, by the way. He's 104 years old. The view outside is fantastic. The waves were gentle, the sky was blue, the sun wasn't too ferocious. I would imagine though, that Hurricanes Matthew and Irma pounded the crap out of this place. My southern club was well put together. A couple more and I could have helped rebuild the seawall with them a few feet away. The fried green tomato and the pimento cheese turned my taste buds favorably. But know where you are before you decide on what to get. I think the meal should be complementary with the setting--not in competition. Don't get something that somewhere else could do a hell of a lot better--like a steak. Get something that allows you to contemplate your surroundings. Thank a veteran. Unfortunately, for my first visit, I was invited to Echo for my sisters birthday dinner. The reservation was at 7pm. a few guest arrived at 6:45pm. We waited for almost 1hr to be seated. Turns out they gave our table away instead of seating us when we arrived. The manager Luke could not give us a straight answer in line with what the hostess told us. Curious to know if this unfair treatment (I didn't notice any other people of color besides the ones in the kitchen)... Anyways...I'm deciding to give Echo grace. Our last vacation night in St. Simons and we wanted a special dinner. I read the mixed reviews on Yelp, but wanted to give it a try based on the oceanfront location and also wanted to see The King and Prince resort. We had a great experience...I made a reservation and when we arrived we were seated right away. Our server was very attentive. All 6 of us ordered something different and we each enjoyed our food. Echo is the restaurant at the King and Prince property. My family and I ate breakfast and dinner while at the resort. I personally love Eggs Benedict. There's was perfect. Properly poached egg and hollandaise sauce comes on the side. Everything else we ordered for breakfast was excellent. Service was spot on and you can't beat the morning beach view (the ocean is about 20 feet away from their patio). Dinner was also wonderful experience. Service was perfect. Food was fresh. We had the Iceberg Wedge and Crab Cake BLT. I recommend both. My son got the Straight up burger. I admit the burger was "straight up", not bad but boring. Highly recommend Echo. read more

Beautiful place. I wish I could say the same for the service. Today is my wife's birthday, so we decided to try out this place and enjoy the ambiance over drinks and appetizers. There were two bartenders and the first guy quickly asked us what we wanted. However, not sure about their specialty drinks we requested a menu. It only took us a minute to find our drinks of choice, but unfortunately after 10 minutes the bartender still had not looked our way again. The second bartender finally acknowledged us and took our drink orders. I asked him for a menu as well. He gave us the drinks but despite me even asking a second time we received no menu. We also didn't get offered drink refills. Overall, a poor experience. I only give Echo two stars because of its wonderful beach location and the drinks were pretty good. Wonderful Sunday brunch! Sat on the patio and brought along our fur baby. The food was out of this world - started with a chicken gumbo (so dang good!) and a smoked salmon egg salad (holy moly!). We both had eggs Benedict - one with smoked salmon and one with crab cakes. Outstanding! Also had a side of pancakes with bacon - recommend. Can't do brunch without $20 bottomless mimosas. TL;DR: Waterfront Dining is what you're paying for. I came here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon, and was delighted to find that the service at ECHO, the only restaurant on St. Simons with Waterfront dining, had great service and good food. That said, there were some complaints around the table about the meal, as detailed below. For my part, I ordered the Southern Club, which was served on Sourdough. I enjoyed my sandwich, as it was topped with fried green tomato, bacon, pimento cheese, and prosciutto- all personal favorites. The bread, however, was not up to the task of handling all the toppings: a common issue with clubs. My side, the included house chips, were a little thin and greasy, and the water served tasted salty (admittedly, a common complaint in St. Simons and the Southeast coast). As for my company, two ordered the half daily soup and sandwich combo. The soup of the day was a Broccoli and Cheese soup, which had mixed reviews (one slurped from the bowl, the other found it too spicy). All around, however, the sandwiches here were great, and well received. In terms of price and "bang for your buck," ECHO's lunch course was pricier than one would expect for the meal. My club sandwich, while tasty and filling, was $16. While the sandwich combos were $14 a piece, this was the bottom of the line for prices. The average price on the lunch menu was approximately $18- a high price tag to consider for lunch fare. I'll start by saying this place is beautiful. It's located in the King and Prince resort, and that was enough for us to believe it would be outstanding. We were wrong. The staff was inhospitable and annoyed by all guests. Bartenders wouldn't look up or acknowledge guests at the bar. Our server had difficulty opening a bottle of wine (Ruffino Chianti Classico) and said "you get what you pay for" as if to imply the $38 bottle was a poor choice. We saw a lady seated nearby get her table silverware and bowls because no one supplied them. Staff turned off the lights with two hours left before closing. Another guest found the switch and turned them on. The food was mediocre. I had shrimp scampi and while the shrimp was tasty, the pasta was lacking any flavor. Delicious brunch on this cloudy Sunday! It was breezy outside and a little chilly, but we braved the weather for the view. The staff was very courteous and quick to turn on the outside patio heaters. We ate on the patio and there was old food, dirty silverware, napkins, leaves and more under the table. The table wasn't very clean either. Sadly Echo is not what it used to be. I used to love coming here Pre Covid. The dinner views and dining room are great, so is the patio dining. We orders vodka tonics which came out in pint size beer glasses and they tasted awful. The server was very kind and took it back once but when it was remade it still tasted terrible. I appreciate her trying but we still paid $10 for a drink we never drank. If the island water is used for the fountain sodas and tonics it's awful. Our servers were very nice and kind but the food was just so so and drinks could have been better. read more

Do not go! Service was slow. Food to table was slow. Buffalo calamari had miniscule amounts of Buffalo sauce and was all fried breading. Wedge salads had brown old lettuce. Poke bowl had small amounts of tuna. Shrimp not deveined in low country boil and it did not have much sea food in it. Food was awful! Price was outrageous for bad food! Atmosphere was terrible. Then I went to the bar before our reservation and was ignored by the bartenders for quite a while, where the bar music was VERY loud for a small space, although the musicians were good. The hostess was friendly and sat us quickly. Our table had not been wiped off throughly and when our server came by I asked if he would wipe off the table where it was wet. He promptly grabbed a cloth from someone, and cleaned our table... but not before he dropped the cloth on the floor. I'm not sure what bothered me more; that he used the dirty cloth to clean he table, or that he didn't realize it was inappropriate to use a cloth he'd dropped on the floor to clean our table. Our cheese board was fine, but included raisins, cut up mixture of melons and what seemed to be strawberry jam? Can't rate the food after that, we left. Will not return. read more

My wife and I came to Echo for dinner on our first trip to the golden isles. We heard great things about the shrimp and grits, and so that's what we ordered. Everything was pretty straight forward, ordered a couple cocktails which were very good, (the siren's sound and the high tide) and relaxed until our meal came. We never received the bread our waiter said he would bring, and he seemed a little overwhelmed with a large party. The shrimp and grits came out very quick, and it looked every bit as good as advertised. I went to take the first bite though and noticed a hair on the shrimp that in no way could have been mine. I totally understand stuff happens, so I was just going to send it back, no fuss and get a new one, however our waiter was nowhere to be found. We flagged down a different waitress, and she took the meal back. A few minutes later I received a new order of shrimp and grits which was in fact very good. My issue with this situation was in the fact that the manager never came out to apologize or anything. I wasn't looking to get anything for free, but at least act like this issue deserved your attention. For dessert, we got the banana creme pie, (save your money on this one, it wasn't very good). Overall, I would recommend Echo, the shrimp and grits were worth it, and the drinks were solid. read more

Stop in while hanging at the beach and loved it. Although we weren't guests at the King and Prince, they did allow public access to the restaurant and I was glad we found this place. We came in around lunch on a Sunday afternoon and there was live music and it wasn't super crowded. The restaurant is beautiful. High ceilings, huge Windows for natural light, a nice sized patio and bar. Since we wanted takeout, we just decided to stop at the bar and was promptly greeted by a very nice bartender named George. He gave us the specials of the day and gave a few of his favorites from the menu and engaged in conversation with us while we waited on our food. He was kind enough to bless us with cups of water to go because it was super hot outside and wasn't bothered by the fact that we didn't order any alcoholic beverages. I opted for the crab cake blt and it was delicious. It was prett huge actually and was hot and fresh. It comes with their house made chips but you can substitute fries for $2. Full of crab, lightly breaded, flavorful, and was a good meal to have while enjoying a relaxing day at the beach. read more

Believe the bad reviews. We didn't and we got burned. Poor service (no waters brought, waiter disappeared when we wanted to order more and when we were missing an entree, they brought out wrong entree and still took forever so we are currently canceling it and leaving.) Poor food (horrible salad, salty gamey steak that may or may not be akin to Chef Boy-R-D, salty shrimp tacos). This is a quintessence of a place with a dearth of due diligence. It reminds me of my years spent in Macon, where the workers stare at you with glazed eyes and empty skulls and hand you cold, hard food an hour after you order. I spent Fourth of July week at SSI and was at Echo every day at all different times and meals. Aside from maybe a slow drink delivery from time to time, I have zero complaints. Only accolades! Bar: The bar has a great happy hour from 4-7 with 1/2 priced wine and spirits. You may enjoy your drinks inside (in their delightfully pleasing atmosphere) or they will pour it in a to-go cup for beach wandering. You have full menu options in the bar area as well. The cheese plate and the pimento cheese hummus were amazing! Restaurant: we dined for dinner and breakfast. James was our fantastic dinner server and Jackie was our fabulous server in the morning. At dinner, our party all enjoyed fresh seafood (grouper was amazing!!!) and our wines were constantly refilled (and at happy hour pricing; James made certain we made "last call"). Breakfast was delicious! My ultimate Bloody Mary could have been a meal in itself with shrimp, sausage, cheese, olives and tomato skewers! The drink itself was super tasty, but those skewers put it over the top! The eggs Benedict with the crab cake was out of this world! Very satisfying (I could barely finish half of my plate!) Covid-19 safeguards - 1 star. Staff and most guests - other than in the bar and outside dining area - wore masks. The bar area was extremely crowded - no social distancing and few to no patrons wore a mask. The tables outside are closer together than 6 feet. Staff - 4 stars. The only outside seating was first come, first served and even though we had a reservation, we did not have a table when we arrived - inside or out. The hostess did make sure we received the first available outdoor table and it was very quickly ready. The bartender created a happy hour beverage that met my expectations - light and no sweet. Javier - our waitperson - was very attentive, offered great suggestions, kept the water glass refilled and was prompt with the check. Food - 2 stars. Good but not great. My husband had the catch of the day - red snapper and said it was good. My Coastal Cobb Salad was okay - I do not like smoked salmon and didn't pay enough attention to realize it was an ingredient along with blackened shrimp. My husband ate the salmon and liked it. Rating this a one based purely on the service, as it was absolutely terrible. We were a group of 7, who were seated at 8pm and it took until 8:33pm just to get a round of waters. Then another 10 min for our drinks. Our food arrived at 9:30pm, lol, one and a half hours after we sat down. My echo burger was delicious and I'd totally order it again but maybe next time it will be togo.
