This review is only for the raw version of Taiwanese sausage and Boba Tea. The Taiwanese sausage are made in-house and can be bought frozen. After cooking them at home, you can tell that they were certainly fresh, which is good but they are not as tasty as some that I have tried before. However, the owner couldn't be friendlier and the prices of everything seems really good. They don't make their Boba Tea with black tea and instead make them with green tea (though not the green tea that is green in color - it's black) - tasted pretty good. We really enjoyed the beef rolls, turnip cake, popcorn chicken, and niu rou mian, but everything was great! Lots of flavor and the beef was very tender. Even though I am giving 5 stars, I want to point out trouble we had here. My family and I ordered our food and then midway through we ordered a desert waffle. Around that time the place got quite busy and our waffle never came out. I paid ahead of time so we had to wait for it. It still didn't come out and we saw many other guests getting their deserts. We were on a bit of a schedule and my daughter started getting a little restless. I went to see if we could just get a refund for the waffle since it appeared that it was forgotten. I was encouraged to wait about 30 seconds longer. It came out and they refunded me. The food was amazing in general and I love that the family runs the business together. Went with my husband for dinner. We ordered two entrees and one appetizer but couldn't finish. The portion of the entrees are huge. We had 1 of them almost untouched, not because it wasn't good, it was just too much food. We tried braised pork, Taiwanese sausage and green onion pancake with egg. There are three amazing things about EC kitchen: 1- It is incredibly clean 2-They make all of their own meat products 3-They use fresh delicious veggies This fairly new eat-in or take-out kitchen serves up Chinese sausages, Taiwanese sweet sausages, BBQ pork, precooked beef shanks, and preserved duck leg. They are careful about not adding preservatives and seem very open to feedback. For my first time, I tried their chicken and Chinese sausage with mushroom stir-fry, Lotus roll, and mixed veggie stir fry with BBQ pork. Each of these dishes were unique and had different flavors that made them special. I think the mixed veggie dish was my favorite, the broccoli and carrots were super fresh, and the BBQ pork had a ton of flavor, but was not too salty. Don't listen to clowns like Denton, this place is great, fairly authentic Taiwanese food. Yes there are much better Chinese restaurants in Portland, but they won't have the great "QQ" texture Taiwanese cooking has. Hopefully they can expand their menu. read more

My wife and I just moved to the neighborhood, this was the first place we tried and well damn! Other restaurants are going to have to bring their A-game. I got the the veggie stir fry with the "Chinese Bacon". What the hell is Chinese Bacon you ask? Perhaps it is bacon that had been bitten by a radioactive spider that gave it super-powers or perhaps it is bacon that's been taking performance enhancers (mark my words, Chinese Bacon, in the next Tour de France). My wife got the house made noodles, think she may have nearly crapped in her pants they were so good (fortunately for everyone she kept her shit together, as it were). All said this place was awesome. They also, as a great bonus on top of everything else, have a bubble tea and an entrée punch card. Will definitely be filling those up before too long. Food is great and a very friendly place. On our visit to Portland (we live in San Jose, CA) a friend took us there and we really liked it. They make fresh soy milk every day (you can get it hot or cold soy milk - it is good). They make most of there stuff fresh and from scratch with fresh ingredients such as sausage and spicy chilli oil and many other things. The beef roll is amazing, the sausage pot rice had some of the best Chinese sausage I've ever eaten, and the tea egg was so fragrant and savory that it made me think I was back in Taipei for a second. The space is nice, all bright and spacious and colorful, and the staff are really friendly and helpful. When we couldn't decide between mango or strawberry shaved ice, the guy offered to make us a 50-50 split. You know it's traditional when you have a young child taking orders and serving, all stereotype aside...the few items I had was really good. My sister and I were on our way shopping but she got hungry and we just drove by EC Kitchen so we decided to stop in for a snack. It had been closed the last couple times I attempted to go due to vandalism. It must have been prime lunch time because the place was busy and people kept coming in, we ended up sitting at the window bar. Shared the green onion pancakes, beef roll, and sweet tofu. My sister had the cold, fresh soymilk and I had a strawberry boba tea. I liked everything but the boba tea--it taste like it was made for the powder stuff which I don't like, maybe just stick with the regular milk tea. The onion pancake was very crispy and thin, not greasy. The beef roll was flavorful and the wrap was crispy, light. If you don't like your soy products overtly sweet then this place is for you. The sweetened soy milk is not too sweet and sweet tofu could've been sweeter. It's perfect for the Asian palate. read more

The food is delicious, the restaurant is clean and bright, and the service is great. All of the dishes we ordered were fresh and not greasy, unlike American-style Chinese. i heard about this place in the Willamette Week and was quite intrigued, especially since they distill their own grain alcohol for the sausages. after a very favorable review from a trusted source, i decided i couldn't resist any longer. immediately after walking in, we were greeted by the sweetest and nicest woman ever who took great pains to explain everything to us and make sure we had everything that we needed. it also was probably one of the cleanest chinese restaurants that i've been to. the food did not disappoint, especially those sausages which carry a hint of the grain alcohol on the palette. the beef in the taiwanese beef noodle soup was the most tender and flavorful beef that i've had in this type of dish. and the tea eggs were like how i remember (albeit not for everyone's taste). the fresh cold soy milk was tasty and good at putting out the fire from the yummy housemade chili oil. on a side note, no alcohol is served here. however, one of the best things was that i could buy a package of the sausages to take home with me accompanied by cooking tips from the woman that was working the floor. delicious and authentic!!! read more

Living in outer SE, there are precious few dining options close by for those of us who do not consider Taco Time and Sizzler when planning for a meal out on the town. Therefore, when I drove by this dismal stretch of 82nd as I do several times per week, I was excited to see the bright storefront, clean interior, and eye catching sign for the new EC kitchen. Furthermore, when I read a shining review in one of the local weeklies, reviews that are usually penned by self-important hipsters who turn up their pierced nostrils at spots in my 'hood, the deal was sealed that I had to go. When we arrived around 730pm on Valentine's Day, there was another couple dining in - another good sign - and we decided to grab some takeout. The place is very clean and bright inside. The lady behind the counter was super friendly, and quickly took us on a tour of their homemade meat selection and answered questions about the menu. All the offerings seemed appetizing, and we eventually decided on the Taiwanese Sausage Noodles and the Beef Shank - two of their specialties. We also got the Tea Eggs to start. All this was right around $20. Based on all the factors above, we were really excited as we drove home to dig in. This is where the problems began. First, the Egg Tasted exactly like you would expect a hard boiled egg soaked in black tea might taste like. One bite and into the trash. Why did I think that would be good? Then - the Sausage Noodles (with a side of plain boiled corn!?!?) What can I say - there was very little flavor, and what there was was kind of dirty sock-y. We choked down some after dowsing with self-supplied Mae Ploy. Even sauce couldn't save the beef shank due to texture. On the positive side, both of my dogs seemed to enjoy the meats after thoroughly rinsing them. Bottom line, I hope my review is in the minority, and that most people enjoy this place and they thrive in the wasteland of 82nd ave, but I cannot in good conscience recommend food that tastes like a sponge soaked in dirty dishwater. read more

This place is wonderful. We've lived nearby for years but only checked it out recently. Very quiet, peaceful environment inside. And the food is healthy and delicious.
