Good service. Good place to drink and eat. Food is ok. A bit on the pricey end for the small portions. Lots of non-alcoholic drink options.

Our order: minced pork over rice, house noodle, pork cheek, cucumber and pork belly buns. All were delicious

As a Taiwanese person, people tends to give me a poke when there are new Taiwanese eateries in town. Which I'm super grateful because I'm always on the hunt for the taste of home. When we entered Taiwan Bistro, we were asked to cleanse our hands with hand sanitizer before sat down. I appreciate clean hands so I was happy to oblige. When we looked at the menu, we were a bit confused at first because there weren't any main dishes. Then I quickly figured out the system and everything was smooth sailing after that. You see, usually we order the main dish then grab appetizers to our liking (at home in Taiwan). It is the same idea here, but Taiwan bistro emphasizes their appetizers so it could be confusing at first. If you are still not quite sure what to order after reading the menu several times, may I suggest: First, order some main dishes between the minced pork over rice, house special noodle and miso noodle soup. Then pick a few side dishes you are interested in. Most of them are soy sauce braised meats/tofu dishes so that they are loaded with tons of umami (savoriness). Finally order some beverages/soups to go with your meal. We ordered the house special noodles and minced pork over rice, braised pork belly buns, marinated cucumbers and sliced pork cheeks. It was a great success because everything was yummy! The house special noodles were udon noodles coated in a savory sauce with a few slices of tender pork on top. The noodles were chewy and we loved the taste and texture. The minced pork over rice was sizzling hot with a savory minced pork toping. It was rich but not greasy nor salty. I was kinda touched because it tasted like home. The cucumber salad was loaded with tons of garlic and we didn't mind. It was refreshing and crunchy, with a hint of a Sichuan peppercorn floral scent. The pork cheeks were tender and flavorful, it was so good with sliced ginger and onion. The pork belly buns were small but mighty. There were four in one order and were so cute! Each bao was loaded with braised pork, crunchy pickles, cilantro and peanut powder. Needless to say, it's full of favor and texture, yum! We wish we could have ordered some Taiwanese beer, but unfortunately we had some travel to do so no beer for us! I imagine this meal would be more enjoyable if we ordered some beer to go with the food. I hope you get to try this place as they provided great service and yummy food options. Just take it slow at first then return for more options later.

i dont often come here but when i do im never disappointed! the wait between ordering and receiving the food was reasonable considering there was only one waitress servicing 3-4 parties at the time i was there - great service at that, always checking in with us and making we were all good. the food was great and my fave will always be the bao buns! inside the restaurant was a little bit dim but had windows to brighten up the restaurant.

As a Taiwanese, I would say this place is not bad. I really like the sausage. It was served with garlic and tastes extra garlicky which I like haha. I hoped the mince pork rice had more minced pork. The noodles were good and fragrant but not very Taiwanese but that doesn't matter. The tofu with preserved egg was good too. The egg didn't have weird taste so that's good. The pork bun was small and cute. It had a good balance of peanut, pork and pickled vege. Overall, I recommend getting the noodles, sausage and pork buns (and a Taiwanese beer with it)

Stoked to try this place out but when we tried ordering for dinner, a handful of items were sold out - not sure if this was a daily thing. We ordered the minced pork over noodles/mein and pork belly buns box. However, we got the minced pork over rice.. not only that but the "minced pork" was actually all "minced fat". I was pretty disappointed because the sauce and egg over the rice was delicious. Huge turnoff to just bite into fat.. The pork belly buns were okay, buns aren't soft and cracked in half when eating. Also bummed that a handful of their items were sold out, like the Taiwanese sausage.. that sounded very appetizing but didn't get the chance to try it.

The food was delicious! It's a bit pricey. I thought it would have been nice if the beef combo came with a small bowl of rice. Beef combo was very flavorful

Lu Rou Fan (滷肉飯) - minced pork over rice

I've been here a couple times and each time has been delicious! The food portions are on the smaller side, but it is pretty filling. The food here does taste like authentic Taiwanese food. :) If you're feeling adventurous, you can get the LuWei combination. We ordered the 5 item combo, which came with two meats and three veggies, but it's random, picked by the chef. I like ordering this one because it's a surprise every time! This one may come with meat tendons, pork cheeks or ears, and chicken necks or gizzards, so if you're sensitive to those foods, this one might not be for you. Lu Rou Fan (minced pork over rice) is always a delicious choice and tastes even better when you add an egg. The chicken wings were a tad bit dry, but it was still good. I tried the BaiYeDouFu (hundred layered bean curd) for the first time and now it's a new favorite! I also love ordering GuaBao as well. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, especially if you're looking for authentic Taiwanese food! They have some items on their menu that a lot of other Taiwanese restaurants don't have.

When ordering, we confirmed with the waitperson the drink specials. Upon viewing the bill, we noticed the prices were not discounted as stated. The cashier told us she did not explain to us correctly and have to charge the regular prices. Her mistake, we pay regardless? Hmmm...

A cool small space located off Capitol Hwy. The decor has a minimalist design to it and goes well for the space. The food we ordered tasted good, however, I wished that they had more items. The items I wanted to try were not in stock- chicken wings, Taiwanese sausage, and minced pork with rice. We ordered some of the other items that included: ZhaNan Special Combo with beef shank, miso soup, garlic cucumber salad, fried tofu, and house special noodle. The house special noodle tasted great and reminded me of like a stir fry udon noodles that I used to eat when I was younger. Overall, they are still fairly new and need to work out some of the kinks with the service and having items in stock. I would come back here again once they get everything situated.

Cute new ( one month opened ) Taiwanese eats in a nondescript small strip mall. Once you walk in you find a classy wood decorated place with beer bottle lined shelves, interesting and cozy ambience, a step abound the outside ambience! As my wife and mother in-law are from Taiwan the menu was exciting and looked yummy. How was our first experience: Very average, likely won't be back, place wouldn't make it in Taiwan Veggie platter: 3 stars Pork Belly Bun: 4 stars buns Weber soft microwaved not steamed Black rice cake ( pork blood ) 4 stars Pork sausage bun:2 stars, bun was terrible, dry and crusty Minced pork meat over rice: 2 stars, disappointing as the signature dish! Chicken wings: 3 stars boring and no discript Meat ball soup: 3 stars also pretty MEH

The food was very tasty here! I tried the house special noodles and the pork bao. The noodles were fragrant and heavy on garlic flavor, which I loved. The bao had an unexpected peanut powder/seasoning on top! Some of the more popular drinks were sold out. We came right at opening and they were able to get us a table, though I think they prefer reservations, it's pretty small. My only major complaint was that their single bathroom was dirty, but would 100% come back for the food!

Beautiful interior!!! Seriously such a gorgeous spot, with a beautiful drink menu too. I was craving something comforting with a midday drink to soak in the sun on Monday and stopped here after class. I got the 1000 layer tofu with rice, and it was perfect with a lychee beer. Good flavor and texture :) felt quite healthy hehe. The employee working was really kind and pretty and answered my questions & recommended my dish! I will come back soon with my friends so we can order a bunch of the cute drinks hehe. Also bathrooms were very clean. Again, I cannot stress enough how lovely the interior is. It feels like an entirely different world from the strip mall this bistro inhabits.

The flavors were very close to home, a bit heavy on the salt but overall authentic Taiwanese flavor.

We may have gone a little overboard ordering (okay... a lot overboard ), but no regrets because everything was delicious -- and the leftovers were just as good later! We started with the beef brisket soup and WOW. The broth was rich, flavorful, and warmed us right up. It hit the spot perfectly. For my little guy, we ordered the chicken bites and rice -- his absolute favorite -- and he cleaned his plate without hesitation. That's always a win! The pan-fried pork dumplings were juicy and packed with flavor. Perfectly soft on the outside and tender on the inside. So good. And of course, we couldn't resist the brisket plate... because honestly, who says no to more brisket? It was hearty, tender, and satisfying. The setup is simple and easy: you order from a self-checkout kiosk, grab a seat (there's window seating plus about four other tables), and the staff brings your food out to you. Smooth, quick, and convenient. Great food, friendly service, cozy vibe -- we'll definitely be back!

Normally I wouldn't care that much about service, but when a lady in a tacky light pink blazer tries to berate me for not having my order window still up on my phone to prove what my name and order was then we have a problem. What's the point of me providing my name and phone number in the order if you also must see my actual order on my phone? There wasn't even any customers in the restaurant while I was there picking up my order and there were only a few orders on the bench. I offered my name and that I was there for pick up, and I was happy to wait there patiently but this lady demanded to see the order on my phone because she couldn't find any order under my name. I must've closed the paid for order window on my phone on accident so I offered her my license to show her my name, but she got upset, huffed, and said "How are we supposed to give you your order if you don't show us what you ordered?" I did know what I ordered though because it was only 2 things, but she never asked me what I ordered or any other identifying information. Anyways, I ended up quickly finding my own order and she tried arguing that the order didn't say my name (I think she just couldn't read it cause it looks like their ink was running out on their order printer, but I was able to make out my own name and phone number on the order). I finally got my order though after I recited my phone number (which was on the order printout right in front of me so I could've lied anyways if that's what she was actually concerned about, but logic was thrown out the window from the very beginning). Anyways TLDR: service sucked. I won't be going back. You can find the same menu items with way better service at the Master Kong on SE Hawthorne.

Brunch in Portland, Oregon…read more.. After I read reviews about Portland's Chinatown, I searched for a dimsum place outside of Chinatown and found Jade Rabbit I liked the name of the place and saw that they had two kinds of rabbit-shaped dimsum! Another cool thing is that their menu is vegan... that means that I don't have to worry about dairy products that give me pain. We found free street parking about a half a block away and waited for Jade Rabbit to open at 11am. We didn't have reservations, but we're seated immediately. The decor was great! I enjoyed looking at all of the Rabbit figurines! The furniture was colorful and the convenient restroom had interesting decorations, too! The service was okay. Some items were not available and our server recited the list that included chow funn. Shucks! She came back later and said that the chow funn was, in fact, available... yay! Our server seemed a bit nervous as her hand shook and placed the special menu upside-down... LOL! We won't bite you! She recommended the Ube Jam drink - it was made with coconut cream... yes! The chow funn was a bit bland. We added some soy sauce. The Puto Pao Bunny Bao had an unusual flavor - maybe the brown sugar can be omitted because the black garlic and vegan pork might be fine without it? The Jade Rabbit Dumplings also could be more savory. Something was off... and the filling was a bit sparse. Anyway, maybe we could have ordered better, but we got what we wanted! Thank you for the cute food! Note: 22 percent is added to the bill - so no need to tip.
