Lots of Portland pho places are pretty much pho 1st and a few filler dishes just to round out the menu. What I love about Pho Gabo is that the lesser known Vietnamese specialities really get a chance to shine here. These are items that a majority of Vietnamese places don't necessarily serve and can be quite rare throughout a the many pho restaurants we have in Portland. On this day I had the banh canh cua which is the crab udon noodle soup. Despite being a smaller restaurant with a lot of various dishes/soups....I was worried that the broths would taste "stale" since they might not have much turnover. However everytime I've dined at Pho Gabo this has never been a problem as if they cook everything regularly in small batches sorta like how Ha VL does it It was a very good rendition at BCC, especially for Portland only 2nd to my mom's version (no seriously my mom's version is S tier). Lots of crab and other ingredients like quail eggs, mushrooms, and a very very good pork loaf "cha." The cha here is really really good and that's saying something bc it's not something I gravitate to. My suggestion if you're new to Pho Gabo whether you are a beginner or veteran of Viet food is to stretch past your comfort zone and try something you've never had or don't regularly order and you'll be pleasantly surprised. read more

I stopped by on my lunch break nearby and was helped immediately and allowed to order very quickly and food was out in less than 3 minutes even though the restaurant was bustling. The workers are very kind and heartfelt. I got a combination pho that included tripe, beef shanks, and meatballs and I just took off some points because I only had 1 meatball in my pho. Walked into a full restaurant where everyone was excitedly eating their food. The menu was amazing. A range of items for all palates. My toddler was excitedly picking one thing from each page. Her eyes were obviously bigger than her tummy. I ended up picking the pork noodles with both tapioca and rice noodles, kiddo got the lemongrass grilled chicken rice plate, A got the jumping beef with rice, and also got avocado and mango smoothies. Our party also got three types of rolls (salad and fried). A couple folx got the crab noodles and that looked soo good! Not me with order envy. Everything was so good! This place is gross. The water that was given to me had been sitting out for a while. I could tell by the melted ice. The can of coke that was given to me was picked up off the floor and warm. The crab rangoon that I bite into was still a little frozen in the middle. The server was barely paying attention as I watched him fill someone's drink, that wasn't water, up with water. At first site of the menu, I didn't understand the high prices but good lord, the portions here are HUGE! My partner and I shared a large bowl of brisket pho and we had enough left over for dinner that night as well. We also ordered crab Rangoon and the grilled chicken salad rolls with peanut sauce. If you're looking for Vietnamese food beyond Pho, this place is it. I got the bun rieu which is a crab forward soup! It was delicious. Rich broth, chunks of crab/pork meatballs, lemongrass stalks pressed throughout. Loved the plate of fresh veggies to go on the soup and bouncy tofu. We got an avocado and durian shake to go. Third time trying Pho Gabo in the past year and always hoping it would get better. The staff is ALWAYA rude and judgy so that's 0 stars. Decided to pop in and try their pho. We ordered the pho chin and pho tai as well as egg rolls. The service asked if we wanted tea and water and we asked for both. The hot tea was good, very comforting on a cold, rainy night and a little precursor of what was to come. The pho was really good. Both cuts of meats were very tender and flavorful. I am so happy about the location of this place as there is no good or even decent Vietnamese restaurants in the Happy Valley area (in my opinion). I don't ever recall having pho that was so clean and crisp yet rich in flavor. Huge serving size and loaded with good cuts of meat.

What I liked best here are the 20+ pho options. No one has so many, and most other places have tripe and/or tendon in most of their meat options, which i don't care for. Do like the fatty brisket. The bowl is very aromatic, but the spices don't carry through in the soup. The regular size was quite big enough, good slug of noodles and fair amount of beef. Very good spring rolls. This place was recommended to me so I finally made time to try this place out. I ordered the bone in chicken pho and OMG why haven't I tried this place sooner? I was definitely missing out! Love the pho here and so glad they opened a restaurant in SE. The broth is clean and always consistent. The meat selection is excellent and have always been very fresh. The bowls are a good size. If I'm sharing a salad roll, I get a small pho or I am stuffed. The large is huge!!! The prices are on par to other pho places and very reasonable. The veggies are fresh and the sprouts are clean.
