We were in the area and looking for dinner to go after a long day. In this shopping center, this was the third of three businesses that we visited. I walked in and then up to the counter. I placed an order for an Oxtail Pho and an order of Egg Rolls. I paid and then stepped aside and sat at a table to wait. I don't know if it was because I was tired, but I felt like I was being inconvenient for placing an order. When my order was ready, it was plopped down where I sat. I took it and left. As I was leaving someone thanked me for my business. We ate two of the Egg Rolls sitting at a table in front of another business. They were served with Fish Sauce and were delicious. Hot, fresh and crunchy. We took the other two and my Pho back to our hotel. When I opened the Pho, the soup was in one container and the noodles and oxtails were in another. Jalapenos, basil, bean sprouts and lime were in a plastic baggie. The flavors were good. The oxtail was cut in an unusual way but had the right flavors. Lots of Portland pho places are pretty much pho 1st and a few filler dishes just to round out the menu. What I love about Pho Gabo is that the lesser known Vietnamese specialities really get a chance to shine here. These are items that a majority of Vietnamese places don't necessarily serve and can be quite rare throughout a the many pho restaurants we have in Portland. On this day I had the banh canh cua which is the crab udon noodle soup. Despite being a smaller restaurant with a lot of various dishes/soups....I was worried that the broths would taste "stale" since they might not have much turnover. However everytime I've dined at Pho Gabo this has never been a problem as if they cook everything regularly in small batches sorta like how Ha VL does it It was a very good rendition at BCC, especially for Portland only 2nd to my mom's version (no seriously my mom's version is S tier). Lots of crab and other ingredients like quail eggs, mushrooms, and a very very good pork loaf "cha." The cha here is really really good and that's saying something bc it's not something I gravitate to. My suggestion if you're new to Pho Gabo whether you are a beginner or veteran of Viet food is to stretch past your comfort zone and try something you've never had or don't regularly order and you'll be pleasantly surprised. read more

I stopped by on my lunch break nearby and was helped immediately and allowed to order very quickly and food was out in less than 3 minutes even though the restaurant was bustling. The workers are very kind and heartfelt. I got a combination pho that included tripe, beef shanks, and meatballs and I just took off some points because I only had 1 meatball in my pho. Hu Tieu/Pork Noodles - dry egg and rice noodles with soup on the side. Very good and not the easiest dish to find! Ga Len Mam - chicken on a plate. I loved it. Walked into a full restaurant where everyone was excitedly eating their food. The menu was amazing. A range of items for all palates. My toddler was excitedly picking one thing from each page. Her eyes were obviously bigger than her tummy. I ended up picking the pork noodles with both tapioca and rice noodles, kiddo got the lemongrass grilled chicken rice plate, A got the jumping beef with rice, and also got avocado and mango smoothies. Our party also got three types of rolls (salad and fried). A couple folx got the crab noodles and that looked soo good! Not me with order envy. Everything was so good! At first site of the menu, I didn't understand the high prices but good lord, the portions here are HUGE! My partner and I shared a large bowl of brisket pho and we had enough left over for dinner that night as well. We also ordered crab Rangoon and the grilled chicken salad rolls with peanut sauce. My partner proclaimed that the crab Rangoon was the best she's ever had and I can vouch that the spring rolls were absolutely amazing and perfectly paired with the peanut sauce. If you're looking for Vietnamese food beyond Pho, this place is it. I got the bun rieu which is a crab forward soup! It was delicious. Rich broth, chunks of crab/pork meatballs, lemongrass stalks pressed throughout. Loved the plate of fresh veggies to go on the soup and bouncy tofu. We got an avocado and durian shake to go. Decided to pop in and try their pho. We ordered the pho chin and pho tai as well as egg rolls. The service asked if we wanted tea and water and we asked for both. The hot tea was good, very comforting on a cold, rainy night and a little precursor of what was to come. The pho was really good. Both cuts of meats were very tender and flavorful. Flavorful but my pork chops were a bit on the dry side. -Grilled Pork Banh Mi ($8.95) - again great portion size on this, meat was tasty but I felt like there was a tad too much of the Mayo butter. -Vietnamese Iced Coffee ($5.95) - strong coffee with condensed milk, no complaints on this one! What I liked best here are the 20+ pho options. No one has so many, and most other places have tripe and/or tendon in most of their meat options, which i don't care for. Do like the fatty brisket. Love the pho here and so glad they opened a restaurant in SE. The broth is clean and always consistent. The meat selection is excellent and have always been very fresh. The bowls are a good size. If I'm sharing a salad roll, I get a small pho or I am stuffed. The large is huge!!! The prices are on par to other pho places and very reasonable. The veggies are fresh and the sprouts are clean.
