C7. Braised Pork Belly & Green Bean Chow Mein

This was my first visit and I will definitely be returning if I'm ever in the area. I came here on the weekend after lunch and it was surprisingly empty. The interior is cute and they have high chairs if you are bringing any kids with you. We opted for one soup and one noodle dish. Braised pork belly and green bean chow mein was delicious! The soup wasn't too spicy so the server gave us some chili oil to up the spice a bit (I can't remember the name of the soup but I'll update this review if I figure it out)! The restaurant was very clean and the service was 10/10! Serving sizes are great for the price as well

I haven't been back here in so long but I'm so glad I did! This time around, I got the brisket tomato noodle soup and it was so yummy. The broth reminded me of bun bo hue. Portion sizes were amazing for both entrees and appetizers. Prices are amazing as well. I don't think you can find noodle soup at a non-fast food restaurant in Portland, let alone Happy Valley, for these prices anymore.

I haven't been back for a few years due to living over in Washington. I forgot how much I love this place. Fresh noodles, seasoned to perfection meat, and friendly staff. Service was great and not a long wait.

The quality in the dough for the noodles and the dumplings is amazing. Love to dine here

Service was really fast and the noodle was brought to my table in less than 3 mins after I ordered. I ordered B1 Lanzhou beef noodle soup (spicy). It reminded me of the authentic one I had before but still different. The noodle was as filling as the one in my memory and I felt very heavy after all the meat was gone. Not enough meat and vegetables to help cope with the heaviness. The broth was good but it was like their own take on Lanzhou noodle soup as I tasted Chinese herbal medicines in it. Both the chili sauce they put and the one on the table were not spicy at all. I wouldn't do B1 without spice and I can imagine how bland it would taste. I was wondering if the noodle was handmade because I didn't see anyone making noodles on the spot in the kitchen. I messaged my friend right away and was told they used to have a designated person to make noodles. Although no one was making noodles when I was there, I think they still hand make their noodles because the ends didn't seem to be cut by a machine. I started observing and saw a guy pulling noodles out of a container. If they still hand make their noodles, I guess they make a big batch in advance for the whole day now.

Decided to give this place another shot and we were pleasantly surprised this time around! We ordered the Sichuan spicy pork wontons, you po noodles, and the kung pao chicken chow mein. All of them were great. I would definitely eat these dishes again! However, my favorite was the you po noodles. I really liked the thicker texture of the noodles and there was a nice balance of spice, meat, and vegetables. Food comes out speedy fast and on par with price/portion sizes.

Loved this restaurant. The food were definitely good and tasty. I was little disappointed because of the live showing making the noodle when you order the food. Apparently, it does looks like they stopped doing it. But, they still make the noodle early in the day or something but it's still fresh! I got their Dan Dan noodle which was the bomb and Couple other things. I usually order a bowl of rice after eating the noodle because there is still leftover minced meat and when you mix the white rice with it together you get a whole new item. Trust me on this! You won't regret it. Overall, will be back if I'm around town in Oregon area. :)

This was truly fantastic! We tried it based on it being within walking distance from my friends place, and I'm SO happy we did. Their menu is minimal, but quality. And the portions and prices were well worth it. We tried 4 of the items. XLB, sweet & sour spare ribs, braised pork belly & green bean chow mein, and the kung pao chicken fried rice. The XLB were probably some of the best I've had - on the smaller side, but soup and filling were fantastic. Sweet & sour spare ribs were a good balance of meaty and fatty. The sauce was fantastic and you got a good amount for $7. Braised pork belly chow mein was incredible. Noodles were the perfect chew, the pork belly was incredibly soft and tender with tons of flavor. The green beans were a smidge too soft, so they fell apart. But overall I would absolutely order again. Kung pao fried rice was pretty good. I wish there was a bit more spice, and the chicken was oddly cut - some pieces were very large, others super tiny. But again, overall the flavor and portions were great. We cannot wait to go back and try some more options. If you're in the area, give them a whirl

After our last visit, I fear things have changed. The place still looks the same; clean and orderly but no art, no shrines, no decor whatsoever. Only the sight of busy cooks banging sizzling woks in the open kitchen and the smells of the dishes give the cuisine away. As we entered, everything looked as it always has. We were a bit surprised at the emptiness of the dining area. Early evenings are normally bustling with dine-in customers, and the phone constantly ringing for take-out. Besides us, there was only one other table occupied. The menu looked the same, but when we ordered some old time family favorites, they each were disappointing. Celery dominated the veggie dish, (Buddhist Delight) with no detectable asian spices and scant traces of the other veggies promised. The cashew chicken was more skin than meat, and minimal cashews. I don't know for certain, but I suspect the place has changed ownership, or management or both. If that's the case, it's a shame because the place really was a neighborhood gem for many years. We will likely give it another shot, but with so many fantastic Asian restaurants on the SE side, we won't be back for a spell.

Came in on weekend for lunch and it was definitely a 40 min wait, but then literally no one on a Tuesday night for dinner. Somehow, the time for the food to come out was about the same. You get a few that come out quick, then a few that took long enough for me to notice it, and then always a few where you wonder if they forgot your dish. Even when there was no one else in the restaurant. The XLB and pot stickers are all super solid, not quite Ding Tai Fung quality, but at these prices and wait times they are great. Qbao's are delicious. I think the noodles are honestly slept on. They all have great flavor, super bouncy noodles, and honestly come in a size that you can easily finish on your own or still big enough to split in case you wanted to try another flavor. I also think the pork wonton's with chili sauce are also super slept on, the sauce is oddly sweet, but honestly I love that. Service here can be hit or miss. They don't really do a each table gets a specific server system, at least that hasn't been my experience. You'll get some food runners, and you can usually just flag anyone down to get what you need. But it does mean things can slip through the cracks if you don't have one person keeping an eye on the list of food ordered for the table or you have multiple servers checking in on you to see if you got all your food even though you just told the server 3 min ago you were still missing something. All in all, this place is phenomenal and approachable. I will be back, maybe not on the weekends though, it's not quite worth all that.

We may have gone a little overboard ordering (okay... a lot overboard ), but no regrets because everything was delicious -- and the leftovers were just as good later! We started with the beef brisket soup and WOW. The broth was rich, flavorful, and warmed us right up. It hit the spot perfectly. For my little guy, we ordered the chicken bites and rice -- his absolute favorite -- and he cleaned his plate without hesitation. That's always a win! The pan-fried pork dumplings were juicy and packed with flavor. Perfectly soft on the outside and tender on the inside. So good. And of course, we couldn't resist the brisket plate... because honestly, who says no to more brisket? It was hearty, tender, and satisfying. The setup is simple and easy: you order from a self-checkout kiosk, grab a seat (there's window seating plus about four other tables), and the staff brings your food out to you. Smooth, quick, and convenient. Great food, friendly service, cozy vibe -- we'll definitely be back!

Normally I wouldn't care that much about service, but when a lady in a tacky light pink blazer tries to berate me for not having my order window still up on my phone to prove what my name and order was then we have a problem. What's the point of me providing my name and phone number in the order if you also must see my actual order on my phone? There wasn't even any customers in the restaurant while I was there picking up my order and there were only a few orders on the bench. I offered my name and that I was there for pick up, and I was happy to wait there patiently but this lady demanded to see the order on my phone because she couldn't find any order under my name. I must've closed the paid for order window on my phone on accident so I offered her my license to show her my name, but she got upset, huffed, and said "How are we supposed to give you your order if you don't show us what you ordered?" I did know what I ordered though because it was only 2 things, but she never asked me what I ordered or any other identifying information. Anyways, I ended up quickly finding my own order and she tried arguing that the order didn't say my name (I think she just couldn't read it cause it looks like their ink was running out on their order printer, but I was able to make out my own name and phone number on the order). I finally got my order though after I recited my phone number (which was on the order printout right in front of me so I could've lied anyways if that's what she was actually concerned about, but logic was thrown out the window from the very beginning). Anyways TLDR: service sucked. I won't be going back. You can find the same menu items with way better service at the Master Kong on SE Hawthorne.

Chinese Delicacy Restaurant - Yelp Review…read more A former chef of mine and longtime friend recommended this place, saying it was at the very top of his list for Chinese food in the Portland area. I'm still not sure whether he was feeling nostalgic... or slightly intoxicated when he made that claim. Like several other Chinese restaurants I've reviewed recently, the exterior leaves a rough first impression. The signage is faded, the building shows visible wear, and overall maintenance appears neglected. Yes, it's on 82nd Ave, so expectations are naturally adjusted, but even with that in mind the property looks tired. Inside was better, though far from impressive. The dining room was passable. I've definitely seen worse. The waitress was friendly, seated me quickly, and brought tea and a menu. I ordered a standard combo dinner with a few modifications. They advertise substitution charges, so I assumed special requests wouldn't be an issue. I asked for extra egg and green onions in the fried rice. Unfortunately, there were no green onions at all and maybe a quarter of an egg total. The rice was heavily saturated with oil, making it greasy and unappetizing. Instead of barbecue pork, it contained small, indistinct bits of pork. The sweet and sour pork was the only decent part of the meal. It had a thin, crispy batter and wasn't drenched in the usual overly sweet red sauce. The sauce was more orange than red and was acceptable, though nothing special. Personally, I missed the pineapple and bell peppers found in many East Coast versions. The chow mein was disappointing. Very few vegetables, soft noodles, and minimal flavor. It felt bland and uninspired. Let's not forget to mention the three small pieces of baby corn in the chow mein with deteriorated kernels. I'm pretty sure it was rotten. I can imagine them pulling it out of a 1970 something Tupperware dish in the fridge and tossing it in there. I imagine it was bought in a number 10 can and I've been sitting in the fridge for six months. My palette is quick to pick up anything spoiled. I requested hot and sour soup but was initially served egg flower soup instead. After pointing out the mistake, the correct soup arrived. It was scalding hot and extremely thick with cornstarch. Flavor-wise, it was boring and forgettable. One taste was enough. I also ordered barbecue pork on the side. What arrived were three very thin slices that looked and tasted old, with a slightly off color. Definitely not fresh, and frankly unpleasant. Overall, this visit fell well below expectations. Final Grade: D D for disappointing, with several elements edging toward downright unpleasant.
