Despite only having one server (I assume the owner), the service was pretty quick. She was also super sweet and gave our daughter some paper and pen when she was running around like crazy. The decor is clean but no frills. It was nice however to see Ethiopian muaic videos playing on the lone big screen tv in there. The food was really solid. The lamb soup was quite fantastic. There was cleary some fenugreek in it and the toast points really accentuated the lipids in the soup. I would get it again and again especially in the winter months. The shrimp satay was tasty as well as the injera it was served with and the peas and carrots and green beans that were curried with Ethiopian spices. Went exploring last weekend. Went to Missouri Botanical Gardens to catch the magnolias just as they were ending their season. After the garden did a Google Maps search for somewhere to grab lunch. Opted for Eat Today, a small restaurant on South Grand that has been operating for a year at this location. Though there were not many reviews on Google or Yelp, opted to try them out...so glad we did. The food was so flavorful!! Tender meat and the lentils and veggies were full of flavor. Sprigs of rosemary were throughout the dish, adding freshness. We ordered the Meat Lovers Combo with the Chapati (they also offer rice or fries). It included the chicken, lamb, and beef combo with lentils and veggies. Shared the plate, plenty of food for two. We started the meal off with beef samosas with a red sauce. They have vegetarian and gluten free options. There is a patio for outdoor seating. We were there early, service was great and wait time for our food was minimal. Plenty of seating inside. My husband and I were looking for a quick dinner while we were over at the farmers market and this spot looked unique. We walked in and it feels like a local cafe on the inside. We were immediately seated and well taken care of the whole experience, there weren't many others there which was sad because it was a great experience! The food was amazing. I got a vegetarian option and my husband got one of the meat dishes. All the veggies were cooked to perfection with great flavor. Tons of great spice! And the portions are HUGE like two meals worth. First time trying Eat Today on South Grand and it was a great experience! We kept it simple and ordered the Meat Lovers Combination, an avocado salad (which came with injera), and a side of fries. Everything was flavorful and fresh -- could've used just a touch more seasoning, but still really good overall. Service was friendly and attentive -- they even offered me water while I waited, which was a nice touch. The space was well lit inside and out, even at night, and there's outdoor seating if you want to relax and enjoy your meal. It's an unusual name for an amazing restaurant. My husband and I are on a Mediterranean diet, and we had heard about Eat Today. It was some of the best Ethiopian food we've ever had. The restaurant is cute, the people are accommodating and good at explaining all the dishes available, and the combo platters (vegetarian and meat) were outstanding. The injera is great - and where else can you eat with your hands as you scoop the food up into the injera! It's a small, intimate place. Prices are very reasonable. The food is delicious. Lovely server. Absolutely next level fresh and tasty food. We got the sambusas with beef and they were divine especially with the red sauce. I was in St. Louis on a business trip and found this place a 13 min drive from downtown. Parking in the back. We walked in on a wednesday night around 7 and minimal foot traffic. The hostess was very kind. We ordered the veggie and meat platter and the food was absolutely amazing. Every single morsel was mouth wateringly good. So much so that we ordered it again to go so we could eat it again the next day for brekky and lunch.The hostess was warm, welcoming and kind with great service. The ambience inside is very peaceful. This unassuming little restaurant offers a great variety of East African dishes, which the chef will alter as needed to accommodate your taste and spice tolerance. The food is fresh and delicious all the way around. My friend loved and devoured the lamb soup, while I enjoyed the spinach entree. There are plenty of vegetarian dishes on the menu, including some with fried tofu (my fave). There are also lots of meat options, don't worry. I'm new to Ethiopian food, so I'm not sure what it is traditionally. I do know the meal I just had at Eat Today was wonderful. I had the lamb roast entree with yellow split peas, collard greens and injera (a flat bread you use to eat the food instead of utensils. Everything down to the bread was tasty. Heavy hit of rosemary in the roasted lamb with onions and carrots married nicely with the mild lamb. I could have probably eaten an entire plate of the yellow split peas as they were incredible. And the collard greens were tender, bright with a little acidity and not the least bit bitter. Everything was well seasoned. And service was quick and pleasant all around. I'm coming back again for sure and I believe the yellow split peas will be my entree of choice. While everything was good. Those were incredible. read more

We love to try new cuisine and when we saw that Eat Today offered Ethiopian food, we just had to try it. We were not disappointed. We had the beef samosa, which tastes like a hearty won ton. The dipping sauce that came with it had quite the kick. For our main course, we had the lamb roast. It was incredible. Very moist and tender. The vegetables were also great. There is a good selection if vegetarian is your thing. We were the only ones there on a Saturday afternoon, and the service was perfect. The food came out quickly. Since I thought I was just ordering wing, I also ordered a side of Fries. I was shocked at my serving. Their fries were better than most burger joints. The fries were super crispy, seasoned with pepper and sauce served in a little cup, made my taste buds dance. It was spicy and had a good kick to it. I met a few friends for dinner at this new establishment on South Grand. The minute I walked in I was greeted. The woman who was our server was kind and helpful. I was very happy to see two pages of menu items that are plant based. All the entrees come with a choice of rice, French fries or Ethiopian flat bread. I ordered the mushroom entree which was delicious. It came with lentils and a side of cabbage/carrots. The rice was yummy too. All the seasoning and spices made this entree so good. And you get a lot of food for the price ($15). The only negative I have is that the mushrooms were a little more salty than I like. Other than that, I was happy. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a whole food plant based meal. Next time, I will get the bread as my side choice! read more

My husband & I love ethnic food and lean towards veganism, so when we pulled into St Louis at dinner time, Eat Today was a no brainer. This is a bright little spot in a trendy part of town with indoor and outdoor seating. Unbeknownst to us, there was a restaurant crawl going on, and parking was a real challenge. Inside is a beautiful well lit dining space. Service was quick and cordial, but there is definitely a language barrier. The food straddles the line between truly delicious and bland. Standouts on our table were the beet salad that comes with the Veggie Lovers Sampler, the lentil Samosas, and the Tofu entree. Do try the rice as a side with your meal! My friend and I decided to have lunch at an African restaurant. We chose Eat Today on S. Grand and it was wonderful. We were warmly welcomed by the owners of this bright and cheery restaurant. We started with an order of the Triangular Samosa Lentil, and then split the Beet Salad and the Shrimp Satay, which was accompanied by the gluten-free teff bread. Ingredients and preparations were fresh and delicious. Enjoyed the bit of hot jalapeño in the beet salad, and the rosemary added a lovely note to the Shrimp Satay. (Don't confuse this with Southeast Asian satays. This is not a peanut-based dish.) My friend who avoids gluten was interested in the teff bread-- which is a staple in Ethiopian meals. The menu is quite extensive and varied and includes a wide range of vegetarian options in addition to meat options. Go!...you won't be disappointed. read more

Years ago, I was the principal of a school on S.Grand, across from Tower Grove Park. One of our students was the sweetest boy with the kindest parents. At dismissal, if you were one of the lucky staff members near their car, Elnathan's parents would often hand you some type of amazing goodie, lovingly wrapped in foil. Anything they made was flavorful and unlike anything we'd ever tasted- always inspiring comments about them needing to open a restaurant. Years later, I was thrilled to learn the family DID open a restaurant when I happened upon their booth at Festival of Nations in TGP. Last night, I door dashed from Eat Today and have never had anything show up so HOT! Each item that I ordered was perfectly seasoned, made with fresh ingredients, and generously portioned. The pride that this family takes in anything they do was evident when they handed us treats in the car line years ago and remains consistent in their food and service to this day. What makes everything taste even better is that I know WHO made the food- two very hard working parents who sacrificed for years to create their dream and raised a wonderful young man while doing so. The incredible aroma of the food made me so hungry that I could hardly wait until I got my food home! I ordered for pickup via GrubHub app. I'm thinking the app may be providing a guestimate of when it says order is ready for pickup. I'm guessing this is no fault of restaurant - just an FYI if your order through GrubHub. App said order was ready around 2:20, but it wasn't up until 2:45. The original order estimate had a high range of 2:30. I arrived at 2:34, so I wasn't waiting long for the order. Food came out hot - I could tell they just finished making the order. I was looking for an African restaurant that would offer something new. We were rewarded! The atmosphere is pleasant. The service was very attentive. It was the food that sold it. We started with the beef sambusas. Even though they were made with coarsely ground beef, their spices elevated them to something special. We shared the roast lamb and the veggie platter. The use of subtle spices gave a beautiful variance to the ingredients, which mostly spoke on their own. For example, the yellow peas were a combination of half peas in pea mash which made for a "true to ingredient" flavor with a wonderful texture. The greens were true to themselves, with no ham or other flavor overtaking them. However, we both voted the green bean and carrot mixture as our favorite for the spices. The mix of cabbage, potato, carrot and onion mixture was subtle and the difference in every mixture on the plate was lovely. The lamb was wonderfully spiced, surrounded by vegetables instead of a sauce and with an occasional almost uncooked tomato slice, which picked up the spices and complimented the meat. This was really good food and a great experience trying something new. When the bill came, we were pleasantly surprised as well.
