Trusting Becker Autosound Cost Us $9000. A Six Month Saga…read more We bought a refurbished and upgraded PCM (stereo/ nav) from Becker Autosound to replace a unit that was showing signs of age. After installation we discovered that the Becker unit would not produce any sound. We contacted Becker and were connected with the person who had refurbished it, Tom. He blamed our installer. The installer took the vehicle back and attempted to fix but was unable to. I then brought the vehicle to a certified Porsche mechanic. He removed the unit, checked all the wiring and reinstalled. Still there was no sound. Upon bringing the vehicle home a new failure appeared. The left half of the screen went blank and what should have been displayed on the left side was now shown on the right. This impacted all functions; stereo, navigation, back up camera, etc. I reported this to Becker who took the unit back and spent a couple weeks evaluating it. The unit was refurbished again, which involved replacing a board or two. Once we received the unit back we had it installed again and the unit still would not produce sound. Becker took the unit back again, refurbished it a third time and charged the shop $800. Upon return the unit still did not work. Becker took the unit back and promised to expedite their evaluation. We heard nothing for weeks. Calls were not returned. Finally Tom called and said he could not repair the unit but would source another to refurbish as replacement. We waited several more weeks while they purchased and tested all the used units available on eBay. We were then told that Becker would not certify any of those units and would simply process a refund of our original purchase. With every eBay unit claimed by Becker our only option was to purchase a brand new unit direct from Porsche, fulfilled through Germany with a lead time of 2-12 months. Tom followed up repeatedly about refunding our purchase price while I took a couple of weeks to organize all the invoices. I sent them to Tom with a request that Becker cover four out of five of the installation costs incurred at Becker's direction. This still results in a $3600 loss for us. We are also left with an incomplete (not legally salable without backup camera) vehicle for up to 10 more months from the date of this review. I have followed up repeatedly over the last two months and seen no response and no refunds, even for the purchase price of the defective Becker Certified unit. If any of this sounds incredible scroll down to other reviews from customer with similar experiences, though I sure hope no one was injured as badly as we were. I even found the manufacturer of the camera system that I wanted to purchase had a local office and offered installation of their dash cams. But they couldn't install in my 2024 Honda Accord because my car was too new and they didn't have some of the needed wiring for new models. They could do it next year. I found Model Electronics after some searching. It is 25 minutes from where I live but local options in Hackensack/Paramus area did not work for me. I contacted via email and scheduled the install with Andy. Super easy. Installation is fantastic! Super happy with the results. No visible wires anywhere. Hard wired install. Great job all around. Came back a month later to get the same dual dash cam system installed in my Dad's Subaru. He is very happy with the install. Looks great. Charged a fair price to install in my opinion.
