LIFE THREATENING SAFETY NEGLIGENCE As a Senior Asian Women,…read moreI want to share my experience, since I chose this mechanic shop 5 Star Reviews and the AAA certification on the door. I am not a reviewer person, but I don't want anyone to go through the unnecessary fear, stress and anxiety of having their life in danger especially when a parent suffered a stroke and is incapacitated and you are her advocate. Repair: Differential Gear Shaft Replacement Repair entails: disconnecting brake lines, reconnecting, and bleeding them Cost: $5,335.00 Summary: 3 repair visits and 24 hours out of state emergency brake failure repair Repair 1 p/u date April 14th - failed at 70 miles an hour in Oregon on my way to San Diego, Ca, by the time I got back to Vancouver, WA it was worse than when I first brought in for the repair. Repair 2 p/u date June 4th - failed at 25 miles almost immediately June 9th went into the shop One Last Chance and I Demanded Toyota OEM parts since I learned I paid too much for none OEM parts and they were trying to pressurize the pinion gear themselves, the reason for the immediate failures. Also, stated if this replacement failed, I'd expect all my money back. Repair 3 date July 9th - my brakes lost pressure in early Sunday morning of July 12th on my way to San Diego, Ca. failed in Bakersfield, California at about 8:30 am after driving all night. Paid $395.91 for a 24-hour emergency mechanic to bleed my brakes. Brake Failure Cause: bubbles / air in the rear brake line. Why didn't it fail sooner - low traffic cool night driving, used cruise and to keep myself alert slowing through curves by shutting off cruise and accelerated then restarted cruise while driving through the Oregon and California mountains. What happens when bubbles / air gets in the brake lines: brake fluid heats up and the air expands causing no pressure to your brakes and the pedal goes to the floor.

Orchards Automotive

Orchards Automotive

I've been taking cars to Orchards since my next door neighbor recommended them about 15 years ago…read more In that time I've taken 6 different vehicles to them and have had very good experiences. One thing I've come to like is that they really seem to want to get my vehicles working at the lowest cost to me. Here are a couple of examples: 1. We have a 30 year old F150 that we use for farm work mostly. At some point the brake light started sticking. You had to put your foot under the brake pedal and pull up on it to get the light to turn off. During an oil change at a large national chain, I asked about a fix and was given a quote of several hundred dollars (taking apart a lot of stuff, replacements, etc.). Not liking that idea given the minimal use, I took it to Orchards (with the quote I had been given). They said yes, that would probably fix it, but suggested that they just hit the brake pedal assembly with a lot of spray lube and see if that does the trick. It's been working for two years now and they didn't charge me. 2. I have a new GM vehicle that started throwing a bunch of check engine codes. I took it into Orchards and the codes came up with very generic descriptions that didn't really help them focus on a specific problem (an increasing problem these days). While they had a number of possible leads (all involving expensive diagnosis work), they ultimately suggested that I try taking the car to the dealer and press for warranty repairs since the codes could potentially impact emissions systems (covered by a much longer warranty). That ended up working and saved me a ton of money. Hopefully, now that manufacturers have agreed to fully share codes no later than the 2018 model year, this problem will go away. But I really liked that they acknowledged when they ran into a code diagnosis dead end and suggested a possible solution that saved me money. On a note relating to some other reviews. When I started with Orchards, Loren Sr. ran the place and was my primary contact. He's since pretty much retired and Loren Jr. runs the place. I gather they've expanded into other service lines (the Guardian breathalyzer rental business) and they've taken on a secretary to help out. I haven't experienced that side of the business (including any interaction with the secretary). Recently, it's always been with Loren Jr. or one of the mechanics and the customer interaction has been great.

As a senior I have 44 years of automotive care experience. I whole-heartedly recommend Orchards…read moreAutomotive as the all around best experience I have ever encountered! Outstanding staff who truly cared about my car and my concerns. They took time to carefully listen and they have great communication skill and business communication practices. The staff are polite and respectful. I appreciate that they have never tried to "find" additional unrelated work, or to inflate the bill. Their pricing is competitive and fair. On top of everything, they stand behind their work. What a refreshing surprise!

Simply put, Sal is fantastic. My 2009 Mazda 6 was going into limp mode and throwing multiple codes…read moreafter a botched valve cover gasket job performed by a shop across the river (which shall remain nameless for now). I contacted Sal, and he came over to review the car the next day. He discovered an electrical connection issue in the throttle body (the other shop bent and almost broke an electrical connector pin), as well as misfires in one of the cylinders caused by additional sloppy work by the shop across the river. He corrected both issues, and we're back to safe driving. Throughout the process, Sal communicated everything to me clearly and honestly. He's seems very invested in making the car right; not just running up a bill or finding new problems to fix. Speaking of that, he actually did find one additional problem to fix - a very worn and cracked serpentine belt - and he replaced that on his next visit, along with the aged and tired OE tensioner (the car has 214K miles on it, so a lot of parts are aged and tired). This was a product of his thoroughness and concern for a customer, not ginning up unnecessary work. Also importantly, Sal's prices are beyond reasonable. I would have paid 4 times what I paid Sal if I had taken the car back to the other shop {shudder} or some different brick-and-mortar shop in the Couve.
