I have spent hundreds of dollars at the Roeloff's / East Hampton Optical shop. It is so off putting to walk up to the door and be bombarded by signs saying "do this, don't do that, do this first, call, don't knock do not pass go, do not collect $200! Then, the locked door etc. Once u finally get inside this sanctuary, a very testy and rude women meets u as if u are invading her space and time..... Again, I have purchased approximately 5 Pairs of glasses over the last 5 years. She acts like she has never seen me nor does she care to be kind. God forbid she acknowledge a repeat Customer. I'm done....rewarding this kind of establishment anymore is beyond my understanding ....I would rather find some place else.... read more

Dr.s' Mark and Adriana are excellent - no complaints there. But Nancy the receptionist is appalling. She is surly and rude - and not just to customers/patients but to the doctor as well. The doctor makes excuses ("She's under a lot of stress") but it's the same every time I or a family member have been there over the past few years. It's embarrassing and upsetting to see the way she treats people, including her own bosses. She is the "face" of the business, and as such reflects very poorly on the establishment. We are ALL under stress, but people can still make an effort. As much as I like and trust these doctors, we will be taking our business elsewhere going forward as dealing with this woman's hostility and unhappiness has become intolerable. read more

The optometrist is a really nice guy, however the cranky woman at the front desk is the worst kind of welcome I've ever received. And during an emergency, where I really needed my contact lenses, she offered to sell them to me "for cash" or else I had to get a brand new prescription. It was not a pleasant experience. I prefer Dr. Parker in Southampton, NY. It's always a pleasant experience and no one bribes you. read more

I can't say anything about what they are up to today. But, I had a problem with them years ago. I owed them a hundred bucks for a pair of glasses, I had forgotten about their bill and a few weeks later the dude ran up to me on Main Street in East Hampton and snatched the pair right off my face, didn't see him coming, and then without the glasses I couldn't chase him down. This is one store that should have stayed in Patchogue. Weird ideas about customer service. read more

Mark and Leo have gone out of their way to make sure my glasses are perfect. My glasses were over a year old when Mark noticed they were flaking on one of the side arms. I had not noticed. He went out of his way to deal with the manufacturer and had them replaced at no cost to me. Another time I went in the office to ask a question about my sunglasses and Mark noticed the reflective lens on my regular glasses were not up to his standards, once again he dealt with the manufacturer and had my lens replaced at no cost to me. Last spring he even fixed my glasses for me at the grocery store. They always take their time with me to make sure I have the best. Mark, Leo and Nancy are certainly committed to standing by their product and provide excellent service. read more

I visited East Hampton Optical for the first time today by appointment for a complicated eye diagnosis. I can't sufficiently praise the staff enough, from Nancy at reception to Dr. Adriana for a thorough exam, to Mark for the overall experience. Both Mark and Dr. Adriana instantly had me at ease and spent an inordinate amount of time to ensure my prescription was correct. This is a five star facility. read more

I can't say enough good things about Mark and East Hampton Optical. I was vacationing and lost my eyeglasses in the ocean. On the same day as my call to his office, they gave me an eye exam (my prescription was 4+ years old), fit me with new frames and gave me a set of temporary lenses (for distance) until my progressive lenses came in. Then two business days later, Mark met me on the street in downtown Sag Harbor with the new lenses and put them into my frames while standing on the sidewalk. I've always (10 years+) had only the best service and results dealing with Mark and Nancy. With all of the options available to me in NYC, I choose to have all of my optical work done here at Roeloffs. Mark is always patient with my protracted frame selection process, and steers me in the right direction as far as the new technologies in the prescription lens arena. Over the years the selection of designer frames has gotten consistently stronger, with the hard-to-find "Sama" one of the standouts. I never had quality glasses before and decided that I finally deserved them. I'd been hearing about Roeloffs for years, so I finally decided to go. I was treated so perfectly by everyone in the office from reception, to examination, to fitting that we will remain lifelong customers. I am so thankful. I absolutely do not recommend this place. I had a very disappointing experience and found Mark Roeloff to be passive aggressive and opinionated. After 3 months of trying to resolve an issue with my son's unwearable glasses, Mark rudely told us to go elsewhere, but he would not refund the purchase cost. He also told my son that there was nothing wrong with his glasses and it was a "psychological issue." I have since shared my story with friends and have found that this is not an uncommon experience. Very rude and dishonest. I went in to have two pairs of glasses adjusted -- they were too tight and weren't fitting properly. The (rude) receptionist was obviously unhappy that I was asking for an adjustment and gudgingly told me to sit down. The optician came and said he would adjust them. He took them downstairs and didn't emerge for 25 minutes. In the past when I have had glasses adjusted, it is a 3 minute procedure. I needed to leave, so I asked how much longer it would be. She went down to check and said "Oh, he just finished them. That will be $40." I said that I had first, never heard of charging for this service. And second, if it is going to be that much money, the client should be told up-front that it will cost this much. In the end she charged me $20. I will never go there again. Look elsewhere for honest and friendly service. read more

The receptionist is not too friendly, so I agree with the above comments, She has lacked patience with myself and my children. The glasses are also very expensive, however, it is close to where I live and if time is an issue I have gone here as I have never had an issue with the exams or the optometrists, but only the store front. I would suggest finding a kinder, friendlier and more reasonably priced place to actually buy the glasses. read more
