Worst customer service!! They make you feel like you owe them something. They over charge because its convenient to them. Not only do they rip you off they are very rude. What sucks is that you can't choose a towing company when you're car is taken away so instead of these people that work for this company having some kind of sympathy for those that have gotten their vehicle taken and have to come up with this ridiculous amount of money they charge. They treat you like you are nobody. After having to pay almost $800.00 to recover our vehicle that was picked up only 2 blocks away and was in their property for basically a day and a few hours. After giving attitude,the man that drove our vehicle out of the lot just literally parked the car across the street and jumped out of the car without a goodbye and even left the vehicle door wide open! Yesterday I thought my car was stolen, or repossessed.... Called the lien holder and they didn't have it (I am current but honestly who knows these days.... ha!) then I called Berkeley police to let them know my car was stolen. The super helpful lady asked if my car was towed (I only have one ticket that I know if, so I didn't think so). She looked up my vehicle and right before she was going to transfer my call to the reporting department, she found it! Yup, my car was towed for being parked in front of a driveway. OMG I could not believe I was blocking a driveway because I always look before leaving my vehicle. I called East Bay and the owner answered, gave me the charge breakdown and said to be there by 5pm ( to avoid the typical charges that are charged after 5pm). My boss rushed me there and I picked up my vehicle, super easy process! I am not sure if my previous experience working with tow companies and my boyfriend owning his own tow company helped me (doubt it), but I cannot believe the other reviews of bad customer service. When our cars are towed, 90% of the time it is our fault in some way and we don't need to be rude or mean when we pick up our vehicles, but I do get it, people get really mad and don't want to pay fees. These companies have to charge to tow, store, and do other stuff depending on each case. Anyways, my experience was amazing. Both the owners are super funny, I stayed and chatted a bit with them. I am happy my car wasn't stolen and I can laugh at myself because I really did make a mistake by partially blocking a driveway and the person couldn't get out. read more

They make money through a partnership towing cars for the City. In other cases, I hope no one would ever choose to do business with them. Their rates are outrageous and, despite protest, they require that you sign a waiver before they show you your towed car. read more

I looked up website today for E.B. Tow because I am purchasing a vehicle from them. I have done business years ago with them prior to this when I was General manager for an MX track in CC County, we used their services never had a complaint. I have been reading these reviews and I have something to add. First of all try to look at the situation from another perspective. Try a role reversal, 1. remember these guys are working and they don't expect the owners of the impounds to like them or be happy. 2. This is a business they have employees to pay, overhead, vehicle and equipment maintenance, pay yard lease, etc.,etc., just a small example of the expenses they incur. 3. The lack of compassion you say they have, most likely is because everyone who's vehicle they tow come in whining or bitching I'm sure. 4. They can't cut any slack, they would go out of business. 5. I know this is a business where you have to be intimidating and big, real big , like one of you commented about one of the Drivers appearance.They never know who's car they are picking up or for that matter what's in it. They could have any crazed psycho come to their gates. They have to keep their guard up at all times! Wouldn't You?. Look at your review then read the other reviews, all of them! I did, if you had any sense of fair assessment judgement. You can see the unhappy customers all had their cars towed and impounded. Happy customers were receiving an assistance tow. Need I say more. Don't be so vindictive, why would you try to ruin a person's business because you screwed up. Even if you didn't screw up, they only can see the surface of the situation and come on these guys have been in business long time, they aren't doing anything illegal why would they risk their jobs or their business. This company deserves 0 stars, but Yelp's lowest grade is 1! I went to pick up a vehicle here with the appropriate paperwork and was treated like garbage! I was verbally abused by a male worker, was called obscenities and was threatened! I left in fear for my life and had to file a police report with the city of Berkeley because I was afraid to go back to get my car! This place is despicable and there is no need to harass people who are already traumatized, upset and financially in big trouble and just trying to do the right thing and retrieve their vehicle. I had a few simple questions to ask and when I tried to ask them, I was yelled at and called terrible names! It is a disgrace that this business is allowed to financially rape customers and abuse them on top of that with the consent of local police departments! Dealing with this place was traumatizing and a nitemare I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy! Stay away, which of course, you can't, because if your car ends up here, you have no choice but to deal with them. If you are a woman, make sure you have a few males accompany you or you will likely be abused by an angry disrespectful employee who works here. read more

I purchased a car from them with my last monies they assured me the car was working great, it just need a few simple parts under $100.00. I have the car for a month I've an extra $500.00 into the car for parts and the don't honor California's 30 day lemon law. So now I'm stuck with a car that I ieither try to sell or Spend another $750. to $1,500. to complete the process. read more

The Berkeley Police Dept had to have my car towed while I was on vacation because the car alarm went haywire for a few hours. Unfortunately, East Bay Tow was enlisted. This is a bummer, but it is not the reason I give EB Tow a bad review. I'll start with the one positive: The woman at the front desk who answers the phones and does the transactions was professional and pleasant. She made an otherwise unpleasant situation bearable. Now, for the negatives: First, when I went to pick up the car, I had to sign a waiver before being able to see my car. Upon inspection after the car was removed from the lot (dead battery meant they had to use a fork lift type thing to put it out on the curb of Harrison St in Berkeley), I noticed they dented the front passenger side fender. "Not responsible for damage." Nice. Second, the owner is a rude ignoramus. They have a policy whereby they refuse to jump start hybrids because of "electrocution." This demonstrates the owner's complete ineptitude and ignorance. Jump starting a hybrid is the same as jump starting any other vehicle - one simply attaches the jumper cables to the live bolt on the fuse box and grounding bolt on the suspension mount. The owner ran after me as I was leaving the office and commenced with a diatribe about "regular people" not being capable of jumping a hybrid because they will "electrocute themselves" and "cause the computer to fail - which will cost thousands to fix and Toyota won't cover it." He suggested that only "specially skilled" people could jump start a hybrid. In an attempt to prove his correctness, he followed up with, "take it from me - I am a hybrid owner and I know. You can't jump start a hybrid, but even in the unlikely case you get it to start, the person with the live battery will have to sit there for 30 - 40 minutes before your battery charges." ALL WRONG! I tried to explain to him that I had instructions from an emergency responder who trains fire fighters, police officers, first responders, etc. on how to work with hybrids. Each time I began to talk, he talked over me with all of the misinformation as described above. I was able to jump the Prius as instructed - no electrocution of any party involved - and drove off immediately. By the way, they charge $160 for the tow and $65 for each day the vehicle is on the lot. read more

She helped me cut right through a lot of Berkeley's bureaucratic red tape and contacted the Berkeley PD directly to make sure I could get my car out that day and wouldn't have to pay daily fines. read more

I drive a car with run flat tires and I had a blowout on the I-80. Unfortunately I do not have a spare tire in my car so I called East Bay Tow because they were close by. The tow truck driver Carlos arrived in ten minutes! He was very polite and towed my car to the tire shop quickly and without damaging my car. The price was reasonable as well. read more

My car got towed last summer while I was on vacation until Labor Day. When my brother-in-law took me home, he told me my car got towed because they were in the process of repaving the street that Labor Day weekend. They apparently didn't give much notice and I had to pay a few hundred dollars to get my car back along with a $51 ticket that I also had to pay. It definitely wasn't fair and I don't have that kind of money. Seems like it was a way for the city to make some money because they probably knew they would. Today, I'm still pretty angry and I've never been this angry in my life. It would have been nice if they would have given more notice. I work so hard to make sure my car doesn't get towed and impounded. I'm a low-income person who really needs to watch my money. read more

Well, something I want to say about east bay tow. It was the first time I ever met this tow problem this month. The coil pack of my car was burned out on my way to work. After the fire brigade helped me to secure the heavy smoke situation, they called the east bay tow for me. I know nothing at all about how much is the tow fee at that time. And in about 20 minutes, the guy from east bay tow came and towed my car from Hearst and Martin Luther King Junior to a auto shop on San Pablo. The distance is about 2.1 miles. After that, the guy charged me $185 for this towing. It was not until now that I realize this towing fee is too expensive. So, how can I say ? I feel that I was cheated by that guy. Anyone can tell me what's the reasonable price of such towing ? read more

The people who work at this business are the rudest people! Avoid this tow company if you can. Unfortunately, 3 days before Christmas, my husband, two year old son and myself ran a quick errand in Berkeley to pick up a last minute Christmas gift. My son fell asleep in his carseat, so my husband pulled over to an empty spot on the street and waited in the car while I ran in to the store to get the gift. While I was inside the store, my son woke up, so my husband got him out of the car to meet me. There were cars parked in front of us, so we didn't think to look at the street signs. Well, unfortunately, a tow zone began at 4:00pm and when we arrived back at our car at 4:20pm, our car was gone. It was completely our fault. We called the phone number on the street sign and they told us to go to a Cedar St. tow yard to pick up our car. We took a $25 cab ride to this location only to find out they didn't have our car. Thankfully the that tow company gave us a ride to East Bay Tow. By this time it was completely dark, my 2 year old was in a short sleeved shirt, he was crying, hungry, and it was extremely COLD. Yet, despite being told these facts, the personnel at East Bay Tow told us they would not allow ANY of us inside and instead made us wait outside the gate, in the dark, in an industrial area of Berkeley. When they did finally let someone in to retrieve our car, they would not allow my husband and child inside, but instead would only rudely escort me (the registered owner) to pay the $225 to get the car out of the tow yard - it had only been there less than two hours! When my husband expressed concerns about letting his wife go into a locked warehouse alone without escort or her child, the personnel again were rude, cold, and unflinching. There was no personal touch, no understanding of our unique situation, and no effort whatsoever to relieve my son's obvious discomfort or my husband's understandable concern. I understand that our car was towed because of our negligence, but this tow yard treated us incredibly poorly -- so much so that it would seem this is just standard business practice. read more
