    Afro-cuts. Natural black haircut.

Finally! A barbershop that is close to work AND knows how to cut and style my natural African hair! Dell, one of the barbers, did my mohawk fade and I'm already making plans to go back with a hair design in mind. This is a fantastic barbershop in Central District. It's only a 5-minute bus ride from Capitol Hill. Looking for a black / African-American barbershop make your way to Earl's! Great location. Great service. Very friendly.

I'm visiting from out of town. My son needed his have cut, he been getting his hair cut faithful since he turned 1. This man Earl kept nipping my son when he said it hurt. His hair line was all the way off. He did not frame his ears or neck area left a big patch on the back of his head. No I was not a happy customers, no I so not recommend this place at all

Best barber shop in CD My barber in CD moved to SODO so I've been on the lookout for a new barber since. I've also been travelling a lot so I haven't been home whenever I felt I'd go crazy if I didn't get a cut so I'd go to the best barber shop close by and it has always worked out. I've been to Earl's barber shop before and I got a really good cut that time. But I've never had a chance to go back so now was the time! I was able to walk in and Jay was available to cut my hair. I got a cut and a line up and Jay was just clinical! It was fast and I'm really happy with it! I think I finally found my spot. It looks like this is a temp spot but I'm hoping they stick around!

    GET IT..... ‍

So I got an old family friend that went on vacation recently with his wife. While on vacay the wife was posting pics of them doing there thing. They were great photos don't get me wrong but my man had a super legit hair cut so that's basically all I noticed. Either way I have been getting my hair cut in Renton the last few months and it's just been all bad, (hats for days) so I ended up asking my family friend where her husband got the cut, and she said Earls Cuts and Styles. So long story short I went in there today to get a haircut and got hands-down the best haircut I've ever had my entire life. My fiancé that I just proposed to in May literally re-propose to me true story Man this place is the SPOT no doubt

Please Avoid At All Costs! Not Professional and Doesn't Follow Covid-19 standards!! I have never been to a barber shop and the last time I had a professional cut was at least 5 years ago. Jasen "I'm going to keep it professional" Moore is anything but that. I came in Friday September 18, 2020 for a women's hair cut and line up. Their site does not list what services are included with the hair cut so I booked a line up just in case. My appointment was at 4pm I come in and Jasen is finishing up a client and comes over to take my temperature and fill a form out. I'm not in the chair until 4:10-4:15. He told me the line up comes with the cut so that'd he'd cancel that charge and I told him I wasn't sure since the site didn't specify what the hair cut came with so I'd rather book the extra service than not. I tell him I want a trim to make my hair even and then shaped. He acknowledges this so I believe we're on the same page. I'm not sure if this is standard barber shop practice where the client is faced away from the mirror so that they can't see what's going on or just Earl's practice. He also didn't tell me when he was going in to line me up so I have really bad razor burn(?) bumps. Jasen takes 2-3 phone calls while doing my hair and I assume he had other things on his mind due to the fact he told the person on the phone someone was having lots of health issues. His friend comes in and Jasen doesn't take his temperature nor has him sign the form about not having Covid-19 symptoms so this place isn't even following state guidelines, but touts himself as professional. Once he's satisfied with his work he brings out the mirror and asks what I think and I'm horrified. He completely re-landscaped my afro. I have an oval face so this shape makes my long face stand out even more. When I told him it was boyish and that I couldn't even twist up parts of my hair anymore and his response was oh. Then he began to get extremely defensive and mad at me. "look [at the floor] there isn't much hair" I took fault for not being super specific and had even said I'd like to come back once my hair grows back, but that didn't matter. I was on the verge of tears I was ready to pay for it and leave but he offered not to charge and then tried to use that against me and that I had also booked a line up. Clearly if I had an issue with money I wouldn't have come here or booked an extra service that was included with the cut. I had assumed a trim and shape meant trim the uneven hairs and shape what's there and touch base with the client. He kept telling me that he was going to keep it professional over and over again which I take to mean that he's about on the verge to verbally or physically assault me. So I got my things and left. He couldn't even have the professionalism to dust me off so I got to go home with tons of hairs all over me. I really wanted to support a black owned business, but clearly they don't care about their community if they treat and threaten them like this so it's only a matter of time before this place sinks into oblivion. I'm so ashamed of my hair right now my resigned to wearing head wraps and having to visit mom a couple times a week to twist my hair up.

Terrible haircut. And terrible experience. The guy had no attention and no sense of care or quality at all. Staggeringly overpriced too.

In conclusion, I won't be driving to Portland anymore for an authentically black barbershop...

It's come to this: the Colman Building Barbershop is the only place I'll get my hair cut anymore…read more I've had cheap haircuts and I've had expensive ones. Robby's shop falls somewhere in the middle, price-wise, but his work and his partner Madison's are consistently at the top of the list when I get out of the chair and get a look at what they've done. There's never that awkward "oh no, what am I going to do with this?" moment when you see it for the first time. Simply put, their cuts look fabulous, every time. As experiences go, the Colman Barbershop is fun and relaxing. You can go expecting funny adult conversation with a racy edge to it, classic rock on the stereo, a comfortable old-school barbershop chair to sit in, and a phone that rings like a phone, not an electronic tweet. Robby and Madison not only deliver a great cut, they have genuine fun chatting with you and with each other while you're there. And men? Go with the knowledge that you're not quite done when your hair is done. You've got a rare treat in store before you're all the way finished, a back-of-the-neck shave with warm shaving cream and a straight razor, followed up with a warm wet towel. It's a delight for the senses not to be missed, and it feels fantastic afterwards. So. It comes to this: get thee to the Colman Building Barbershop for 45 minutes of entertaining downtime, for good music, for a little nostalgia, and most importantly, for the best haircut you'll ever have. Call me picky, but I won't settle for anything less.
