Great place to get lunch! Nice friendly cashiers and the food is already hot and ready to be served to your liking. I tried the stuffed brisket with fried okra and salad. There are few words to describe Earl's, and the only ones that come to mind are "amazing," "wonderful," and "delicious." If you have the opportunity to go on a Sunday or Wednesday for their BBQ plate lunch, you will be blown away. Be sure to get the BBQ brisket and the potato salad--both are incredible. All of their ready-to-eat food, whether frozen or fresh, is phenomenal. I've visited at least a hundred times by now, and I've never once left without a smile on my face. Love this small local grocery market on Verot School Road. They have a nice selection of stuffed chickens and take and bake selections to cook at home and of course the deli serves up great plate lunches at a affordable price. I haven't tried their boudin but Earl's has some of the best cracklins in the area and their fried pork skins are delicious! The employees are always helpful and courteous. There plate lunches are not what they used to be. It seems to have slowly fallen off in the last 6 months. They are very skimpy on the portions these days. As for as the quality, it has slipped also! I used to brag about this place all the time . It was as close to a good home cook meal as you could get with out doing it yourself. Lastly, they have gone up on their prices. I have friends who love Earls. Sunday bbq sounded great. What could go wrong? Got there late so brisket or nothing. I was cool with that but 15$ is steep for a plate lunch. It looked good on the plate. The rice dressing had big chunks of white rice in it where the mix was not properly done. It was all super greasy. I had the boudin here the other day and seasoning and mix were also all off. Not mixing properly just screams we don't give a sh*t. I went outside to eat at the picnic table and the employee tells me not to sit at one table because there is a wasp nest under it. Thanks for letting me know! This review would have been far worse if I got attacked by angry wasps. So we know the wasps are there, we don't put a sign or kill the wasps. That looks a lot more like they don't give a sh*t. I have better places to go and spend my cash where someone on the staff cares and they don't just sling the hash. I don't see what all the buzz is about. Gotta do better. So after a great weekend in New Orleans, we were heading back to the Metroplex on US 10. It was nearing lunch time, and we were hungry. We also came to the conclusion that we never had a Po Boy. Dang! There are just too many options in New Orleans. As we rolled up on Lafayette, I asked Google, or maybe it was Yelp!, "Best Po boy in Lafayette?" I think a few option came up, but Earl's looked the most interesting, and dare I say it, authentic. The lack of reviews did not deter us from this sidetrack of an adventure. So, as the name implies, it is a bon-a-fide market, that serves hot lunches and sandwiches. Everything looked pretty tasty, but we stuck with the plan and ordered a half fried shrimp poboy and a half grilled shrimp poboy. Each was $5.99. I don't recall fountain drinks, so we got a can of soda for 89 cents. We ate outside on the picnic table. After a bite of each, I had to go back in for some hot sauce. Louisiana Hot Sauce of course. But considering we were 30 miles from Avery Island, maybe I should have gone with the Tabasco? Oh well. It was just what the po boys needed. FYI, Louisiana Hot Sauce is made in New Iberia, which is not that much further. Both sandwiches were quite good, but there are many things on the menu worth exploring. Bottom line: If you are heading along US 10, it's worth a short detour to check out this hidden gem! I used to work across the street from here, so it was a convenient walk to grab a snack. They offer some hot food (during normal operations) and have a decent variety of grocery items for its size. Can be somewhat expensive (typical of smaller businesses to cover their costs), but not enough to prevent me from going. I find their boudin has too much rice, but it is popular. read more

Stopped by on a recommendation. Had an appetite for boudin. Got two links hot, figuring I would save for later. But day didn't happen. Ate the whole thing it was so darn good. Not too salty, not too spicy, darn perfect. Other grocery items looked good and I will be back!!! read more

My first taste of boudin sausage was here. We had the normal boudin and the BBQ boudin. The BBQ was our favorite! The rest of the store was quite nice as well. We were camping and it was a great lunch/restocking stop. I bought as many boudin as would fit in my little freezer. I can't wait to try the seafood boudin! read more

As a Cajun Lady, with the misfortune of living in west Texas, on a recent visit home I was having an envie for some good Louisiana barbecue. Thanks to the remnants of hurricane Patricia, cooking it ourselves wasn't an option. For Sunday lunch, I braved the rain and drove to Earls to pick up a couple of barbecue plate lunches. Texans could learn a thing or two about excellent barbecue with an apprenticeship at Earls. That lunch earned its five stars. $8.99 for a meal that can easily feed two people or just one if you can't manage to stop yourself. read more
