Serving up po-boy style Greek sandwiches , this quaint Middle Eastern shop has been producing local eats for 44 years. We ordered the three-meat sandwich, the kebab sandwich (daily special), and a side of grape leaves. Everything on the three-meat sub was delicious and well-seasoned, a nice medley of lamb, spinach, tomatoes, and chopped chicken and beef. Although both sandwiches had similar flavor profiles, the daily special was also super tasty. The shop also carries a nice assortment of spices, hot sauces, sweets and canned goods from the Middle East. Counter service was also super friendly and the cheapest sandwich was just under $10. It was not to my liking at all and there was a strong vinegar taste. The wrap was not full and I couldn't even eat the humus. This food did not seem fresh. Made way Ahead and served in plastic containers (the hummus was like that ). Everyone at my table all agreed we will not go back. read more

Cedar Grocery is one of my favorite places to eat. Locally owned, genuine Mediterranean food! The place is cozy, the people are friendly and helpful. My favorite of their sandwiches is the "Lamb Gyro". Once your hooked to Cedar, you'll have to try their famous "Space Shuttle", and their nationally acclaimed Hummus! Dear lord, this place is addicting. The staff is friendly, the market is the best in town for Greek/Lebanese items and the food is marvelous!!! My two favorites by far are the Cedar Connection (for those who can't choose a meat, this one's got 'em all!) & the Chicken Curry wraps. The Hummus and Baba Ghanouj are tasty and the insane olive choices are dizzying and nummy! A word of warning: the "pickle" is not a pickled cucumber, but a pickled radish. I always order my wraps without it, but some may like the strong taste. Again, just a warning. Bring cash or checks; credit/debit cards are not accepted here. I've been working around the corner from here for two weeks and very happy I finally stopped in. Food was fast, staff was friendly and my Lebanese meatball sandwich was very good. Cedar Grocery is a pretty cool place. Good middle eastern sandwiches, - falafel, shwarma, hummus., etc... and a pretty good selection of canned veggies and spices... and I believe it may be the only place in Lafayette where you can get a big can of Israeli sour pickles... boo-yah! read more

I really love this place. A Lafayette classic. I love the lamb giro. The price is outstanding and very affordable for college kids in the surrounding area. Consistency in taste isn't always a factor. Sometimes i get a soggy giro and the ingredients might be off. read more

Went here a lot for a while as I lived right down the block. It's a one of a kind place-a deli counter and small Middle Easter/Asian grocer. The sandwiches are served on a French bread roll. This works for some sandwiches, but I would rather have something like a gyro on pita bread. They are still great and fresh, and a good deal. The good ones are shrimp gyro, muffaletta (on round bread), and one with all the meats. They also dress the sandwiches with pickled turnips (not the muffaletta though) which is interesting. read more

This is the perfect spot for a quick healthy and inexpensive lunch. The food is kept simple, which is why it is so good. My son and I sat at one of the sidewalk tables under the shade of the Cypress trees and split an Italian style Muffaletta sandwich for lunch today. It was fantastic! It was a perfect balance of flavorful cold cuts, warm melted provolone cheese, Italian olive salad and fresh baked Muffaletta bread! To me, it's the bread that separates the pro's from the amateurs! A sesame encrusted round loaf, toasted to a golden brown, where you can actually taste the sesame seeds! If I go to a restaurant and see a Muffaletta sandwich on the menu, I'll order it. I've tried Muffalettas from Niagra Falls to Key West to Ventura and Louisiana has the best of the best. I've tried all of the sandwich shops in Lafayette's Muffalettas, and don't get me wrong, they're all great in their own right, but the Cedar Grocery's Muffaletta, to put it simply, are the best! In fact, after my son went his own way after lunch today, I went back in and ordered another half a Muffaletta to take home with me (it didn't make it of the parking lot!!) The bad news is, you have to bring your cash money because they don't take credit cards and they don't take checks, but the good news is, you can comfortably split one of these Muffalettas between four people for about $3 per person plus tax and tip and go back to work with a satisfied smile on your face and you definitely won't be hungry! read more
