Update: Like others the owner contacted me to have a friendly conversation regarding my criticisms. I found his response articulate and friendly and was not put off at all, especially when he offered lunch on him to give them another chance! I did see a lot of improvements. My turkey sandwich (ddmd) was delicious. It tasted like something my Mom would have made the day after Thanksgiving. Fresh turkey, the right amount of sauce and warm toasty bread. I liked the new decor and felt like I was in the Peach Pit of Max's of 90210 or Saved by the Bell. The staff was friendly and attentive. Before I felt like the staff despised being there, now I think they like work a lot more than before. I did see that the tip jar was back too which made me happy as an ex waitress. Overall, I will keep going to Eagle's. I found something I really like there and love that I feel like I'm in a Boston (err...Brookline) establishment when I am inside. Previous review: I have tried soo many times to like Eagles. I have to admit I still go there when I am really that lazy but the food is gross. They serve obscene portions and think that makes up for the lack of care they put into the food. The guys who work there look like they don't really put hand washing at the top of their priority list. But, on their behalf I have heard that the owner is a huge loser and pays them absolutely nothing to work crazy shifts, over hot grills with less then polite customers. I don't blame them but I kind of throw up in my mouth a little every time I step through the door. The whole place is covered in Polaroids of people who have tried to give themselves a heart attack by 30...uh I mean tried to eat a humongous burger and fries before running to the bathroom. But looking at the pics can really make the wait for you sandwich a lot more fun. This is a great place to hang out hungover on Saturday morning (if you can get a seat) but not the place to go when you're looking for a quality pre-bar dinner. Also, surprisingly good service and usually easy to snag a table. Very convenient. Great place to go if you're hungover and hungry. The sausage omelette is amazing with a mountain of homefries! But the service is lackluster. Don't order at the grill (or even ask where you put your order in) or you'll get attitude. Check out the menu and go straight to the cashier just beyond the grill. Since I live so close to Eagle's Deli, I actually had their burgers a few times...and ever time I go, it does satisfies my burger craving! But more than anything, I LOVE their fries. Its the right crispy-ness. Just the way I like them. The burger themselves are good. Juicy but not too greasy. Its good ol' burger made on a grill...nothing really special. I give it four stars because that's how much I love their fries. Almost every time I go, I find myself eating the fries nonstop, automatically, like my hands and mouth has a mind of its own. It appears this place is so successful they don't have to care anymore, and they don't. I have family in the area and during a visit we ordered burgers. They said it was a really good local place. Ordered 5 different burgers for delivery. Each burger was read back and confirmed twice, at the insistence of the restaurant. None of the burgers were cooked properly and were all made from patties. I expected actual burgers made from ground beef, but for the low price I should have realized it would be processed food. Most toppings were incorrect. The fries were old and cold. Telephone service was really bad, the person was not helpful, was not engaged in the conversation and seemed to not really care. It showed in the final product. I've been to Eagle's Deli a couple of times, the most recent being last week before the Florida State @ BC game (GO SEMINOLES!! BIG WIN!). After stumbling around Boston on an all-day pub crawl/tailgate, Eagle's Deli was an awesome place to end up. The food is great, the prices reasonable, and it wasn't too crowded. I got a junior cheeseburger with bacon and bbq sauce, and a side of fries - yum. The service was good and the menu is pretty big. It was busy, but I know for a fact that it gets waaaaaaaay busier. I went to this place once back in the day when it was much smaller and it's great that they have so much space now, but it still gets too packed to find a table. They were on Man vs. Food (saw it) and they have various levels of challenge burgers, if that's your thing (not my thing). The place has character and was on tv, which is cool. Continuing my tradition of doing things I should have done sometime over the last four years in Boston, I finally went to Eagle's deli and had one of their massive burgers (I got the 3lb one, which is still 6 patties and 5lbs of fries). Yes, it was enormous. Yes, the fries were pretty good. Other than that? Not much else to talk about. The burger was curiously bland, and there really was jut no place to put condiments. The boyfriend and I came here after we saw it on an episode of Man v. Food. Boyfriend, who aspires to be a competitive eater, had been dreaming of this place for weeks. We were actually going to brunch elsewhere, but decided to head over here when we were too impatient to wait in line for a table. We were there for breakfast, so I didn't get to witness a burger challenge, but we will be back! The breakfast was nothing fancy, but delicious all the same. It's a great, cheap alternative when you're not in the mood for expensive Sunday brunch, and the corned beef hash was fab. The freshly squeezed OJ was also definitely worth it. I fell in love with this place when I ordered a burger and they asked me how I wanted it cook - so many places won't bother, because well-done is the only level of cooked that will ensure they won't get sued. And the burger was delicious. The fries were OK - but way better than those greasy/soggy/limp ones that so many places just chuck onto the plate. The only other thing I've had was an omelet, and it was great. We got our breakfast to go, and I was pleased to discover that it came with toast and potatoes. The toast was awesomely tasty wheat toast. The potatoes were just cut-up potatoes chunks, fried. No seasoning. Not bad, but not particularly good, either. I definitely feel comfortable ordering random things off the menu because of the quality of the dishes I've already tried. They definitely bring the cafeteria setting up to a new level. read more

This is one of our favorite places to go when we are in the area visiting our daughter. My husband craves the corn beef Reuben, it is one of the best I have ever had. The food is extremely fresh and cooked to order. We went last night and my daughter and I had the ranch burger-delicious!!!! The sandwiches come with French fries that are very tasty and crispy. After seeing this place multiple times over the span of a few months on the Travel network on multiple shows including "Man vs Food", I decided to step up to the plate and drive out to Cleveland Circle and check it out for myself. According to the shows, their gigantic burgers have been feeding the masses for a while, especially all of the BC students nearby, putting them on a map and giving them National recognition. After parking nearby and entering the establishment, I was humbled by their menu. It's HUGE and offers everything from breakfast items to salads and subs, sandwiches, burgers, wings, you name it. To all of the faint hearted who can't eat anything unhealthy, if I were you I wouldn't come close to this place. Don't even walk by it. For those who aren't counting calories, this place is for you. I ordered a double cheeseburger (~ a half a pound) and it came served with a huge portion of fries. The prices are competitive for the quality and the service is quick although you do have to get up from your butt and get it yourself at the counter once it's ready. The walls are covered with BC sports memorabilia and the atmosphere is very casual. Both times I've been there it wasn't too crowded although I'm sure that it's packed during the lunch and dinner hours. A great place to chow down on some burgers! read more

Wow. I took some work people here for lunch after hearing about it and I was very pleasantly surprised. I began with very low expectations. I really expected this to be extremely greasy, and out and out disgusting presentation of food, given the size, and price. I was pretty happy with it. I went with the King Kong (1# meat, 1# fries). The burger was cooked well, and the cook didn't even seem annoyed that I didn't know I was supposed to order condiments at the register - one check for service. Second, the burger was tasty! I was expecting, a fat-riddled, wet-bunned burger. it was pretty clean and given the postconsumption circumstances, I would guess it was at least 85% lean. One check for yummie food. Third, my colleagues got salads (hey, someone has to do the work!). They got grilled chicken salads and they were huge. Clearly 3/4 of a pound of chicken on the salad and pretty fresh lettuce, too. the next time we went I got pastrami. Not the best I've ever had, but generous, and quite tasty. One check for alternative menu items. Fourth - the fries.... I know everyone has their own personal preference as to fry-types, but for me, these fries are top shelf. They come unsalted, but there's a shaker on the table which, in my opinion, gives you the power to perfect, or ruin your fries...I did well. Check here for side-dishes. Fifth: the walls. Overall the place does not appear sparkling clean, BUT the tables on the walls give the pleasure of reading some funny, funny captions of post-Eagle Deli (read: pre-gout) photos. My favorite so far is the set of pictures: The first is a handful of white dudes with the caption "we love asian women". Next to this picture is a handful of asian dudes "We love white women!". I gained another three pounds on Friday. This place was featured on travel Chanel, and its the official 2nd place to pig out in the great United States of America. We both got Godzilla's. (1 lb. burger and 1lb fries.) Without cheese. The burgers were ok. Nothing special, just a good burger. The fries were way too greasy for my liking, plus you cant really eat fries, when faced by a 1 lb burger. We took most of them home, and they are still sitting in the fridge. The place is cute and has that hole in the wall, amazing food place charm. They got pictures of the failed attempts to eat their 5 lb burger. Stopped into Eagle's a month or so ago after passing by it I-don't-know-how-many times and seeing it featured on however-many food shows. I expected great things and it was a minor let-down. Now before the flames (not a grilling pun) start, it wasn't a total let-down. OK, so the night me and my ladyfriend got there, the place was packed out, as I would assume it normally is. We hop in line and place our orders: A King Kong medium rare, like a good burger should be, and a side of fries. $8.50 is totally reasonable for a half pound burger and fries. So I grab my number, soda, and a grab a seat, and after about 10 minutes, one of the girls from the counter brings us our orders. Burger looks great, picturesque even, with some beautiful, golden fries. I get everything situated and dig in. The burger was done just right, but pretty bland. It tasted like one of those frozen, pre-packed burgers you get at like, Canobie Lake. It just wasn't what I was expecting. I was hoping for more of the hand-packed, mixed with a special blend of spices, but alas, not at Eagle's. The fries were the same deal, the kind you'd expect from a pizza joint or something similar. It's definitely quantity over quality. The Wrap-Up: An OK burger at a good price. Parking sucks, but that's to be expected in Cleveland Circle. read more

Over-Hyped Greasy Spoon Eagle's Deli is a staple of the Cleveland Circle food scene. Showcased on the Phantom Gourmet and Adam Richman's Man vs. Food, it's a favorite of BC students and alums as well as fans of really big hamburgers. Located on Beacon St., it's accessible by T or by car with on-street parking. Eagle's offers most of the usual staples that you would expect from a burger joint. What makes Eagle's somewhat unique is the enormous portions that you can order. Winning their toughest food challenge, get's your picture on the wall. Aside from this cool but gimmicky aspect, the burgers are what you would expect. Standard. Typical. Nothing special. Average. The beef is pretty fatty and does not have really anything along the lines of flavoring/seasoning. Grilled and place on a soft bun, the burger does better with some cheese but is not really that special. The fries are really a let-down. Kind of thick and very starchy, they are also lacking in flavor. Eagle's actually is kind of pricey when you consider what you're eating: a burger and fries. Is it worth a visit once? Sure. Would I go back? No. And I haven't because the memory of a good burger should last longer than the heartburn. It just doesn't at Eagle's Deli. read more

Yeah the restaurant was featured on Man vs. Food a few years ago, but since then place went through renovation and became something that appeals to tourists. The King Kong burger I ordered taste just like any mom and paps hamburger restaurant; greasy at best. At least it's an authentic tasting hamburger than chains like Burger King. I do like the fries that comes with the hamburger; crisp and crunchy. I might come back again check out the other stuff on the menu and no I will not do the stacked burger patties challenge. read more

Like many others, I came here with a group because of the Man vs. Food challenge burger. I got a roast beef sandwich the first time I was here, and a small burger the second time, and I've tried part of the chilli fries, Nick Lachey burger, and the Eagle's challenge burger. The food is absolutely delicious across the board. The fries are amazing. It's not a place to eat healthy, but it's worth the indulgence. read more

Extra points because I go to BC and they really cater to the students. I went with some friends last semester and I really enjoyed their cajun fries, but their grilled cheese wasn't anything too special. Yes, I understand it's a burger joint! I love this place!!! The owner did an amazing job arranging a birthday party for my son. We always knew the food was good, and a great value but we never thought they could outdo themselves. They did! We ordered the Eagle Challenge for my son and his firends. They couldn't finish it but they certainly had a great time trying. Best Reuben and hands-down best egg salad sandwich - it tasted perfectly homemade, as though they had a grandma hiding in the kitchen doing all the cooking! And pretty much everything else I've eaten there falls under the delicious and can I get another to go category. Agreed that the food is a tad overpriced, your belly and taste buds will make sure you don't regret shelling out a couple extra dollars. Besides the great food, I love the fact that it was a BU guy to first complete the Eagle's challenge (which is a local BC restaurant). What can I say, old-fashioned college rivalry never dies.
