My girlfriend needed to make a move from Boston to Austin. So she loaded up a small UHaul trailer and hooked it to the back of her 2002 Bonneville. She made the trip from Michigan to Boston without much issue under the same set up but the good ole' Appalachian mountains proved to be too much for the transmission of her tired Pontiac. So while it did make it clearly there was an issue after we arrived as the car wouldn't accelerate as it should and struggled to go over 70 MPH. Looking up reviews of transmission shops it was clear Eagle Transmission was the place to go. The unfortunate news is that the car needs a new transmission and isn't worth the cost to fix. The good news is that Tim (I believe the manager) was extremely helpful in helping come to this conclusion. The car was dropped off at 9am and was ready to be picked up the same day... At no charge. I go referred to Eagle summer 2011 to check my Jeep's transmission where they found I needed a new one. They referred me to a finance company, fixed me Jeep and gave me a 3 year/ 36,000 mile warranty. Last Monday Tim said the transmission service I was looking for wasn't going to fix the problem. After a quote from the dealership for a new transmission came in at $6000, I decided to get a second opinion. And the day before my appointment to bring in my car to Eagle Transmission, I got a flat tire AND my battery died! I got a tow over to the shop (hey I'm a day early!), and had an estimate on the work by the end of that day. Unfortunately, the news wasn't much better than what the dealership had told me. Though Eagle's estimate came in at only $3900, it was more than I'm willing to pour into a 9 year-old car. I came back to pick up the car, and not only did they not charge for the diagnostics, they also put on my new tire AND charged up the battery for me at no cost whatsoever. I didn't end up utilizing Eagle's transmission services but their customer service was really exceptional. If I ever have a problem in the future I know exactly where I'll go. Thanks guys! read more

As someone who lives and travels in a van often, I like to recognize great auto shops when I find them. Eagle Transmission is one of those shops. I'm lucky to have been in Austin when I was having transmission issues; I don't think I could've found a better place in the country. They offer free inspection and have some of the best customer service I've experienced from the auto repair industry. Both Tim and Joe are helpful and courteous, explaining exactly what they found wrong and how they were going to fix it. They didn't charge me for anything we didn't discuss over the phone. Joe initially told me it might not get done until later in the day, but only about an hour later he called back to say the work was complete. The repair was not on the transmission itself, but a coolant line to the transmission, and now it is running fine; if it turns out the transmission needs work because of this, however, you can be sure I will bring it back to Eagle Transmission! read more

I had a VERY good experience at this location on Manchaca Rd! Let's face it, transmission repairs can be very costly - often one of the biggest repair expenses you'll likely ever experience. It's nice to feel confident with the shop doing the work. Note #1: There are several locations around Austin but they're independently owned (aka franchised). I have no knowledge of the other shops and have only dealt with the Manchaca Road location. Note #2: Don't forget to mention the coupon on their web site. It cut $100 off of my bill. Sure you can take your vehicle to just about any shop and they can work on the transmission, but I prefer to go to a specialist for such a $$$ repair. Knowing that this type of repair is their #1 specialty helps me feel better about all of their mechanics, their knowledge of said issues, etc. I'd already received a somewhat discounted price quote from my dealership because I've worked with them for so long. Along with their pricing, the dealership had a two year warranty. But I opted to get competitive bids. I also checked with Juke Auto (via email) who gave me a favorable quote and a one (1) year warranty. With Eagle Transmission, they wouldn't give me a ballpark quote via phone/email. They were adamant that they required a diagnostic workup (4-6 hours) to get a really good understanding of the issues so that they could provide an accurate estimate. Extra time for me ... sure. Getting the customer more comfortable with just leaving it to have them do the work ... perhaps. A decent gamble to get a good quote from a reputable shop who's actually checking everything out ... you bet. The workup is free by the way - no charge regardless of whether or not they do any subsequent repairs. Oh, and their warranty is three (3) years or 36,000 miles - whichever comes first. They also have free towing as part of major repairs. They came back with a price quote in line with everyone else but I was sold on their customer service, their warranty, and what I'd call good ol' fashioned 'hand shake' honesty. It took them about five (5) days to get my transmission replaced. My situation wouldn't permit them to rebuild the transmission so they ended putting a rebuilt one in its place. After getting my truck back I drove it later that night to run an errand and noticed my "check engine" light was on the whole time. That's never good, right!? So, my plan was to take it back to the shop the next morning. Unfortunately, my truck wouldn't start the next morning. I put jumper cables on it but it simply wasn't even trying to turn over. I called the shop and they sent over a flatbed tow truck within the hour. They kept the truck the rest of the day before calling to tell me that there were two (2) issues and that they'd need to get a part and keep it through the next morning. In order to correct the check engine code, they ended up having to clean up a butterfly valve that was grungy and not opening properly, etc. They also had to replace a faulty transmission range sensor (TRS); formerly called a neutral safety switch I believe. In the end, they didn't charge me anything for the towing nor extra issues; they covered the cost of the new TRS ($80+/-) and labor as part of my overall repair. I know other shops might do it this way as well, but too many are getting every nickel they can from us. These guys rule!!! Tim is awesome. I've had some issues with my 10 year old f-150. They rebuilt it for less than I thought. 4 months later something broke. They rebuilt it again, no questions asked. It was covered under their warranty. I just had a problem with the parking cable this week. They adjusted it for free(something they didn't have to do). I got home and 3 hours later it was doing the same thing. I brought it back the next day and they needed to replace it due to it being completely melted by the exhaust. It was about 200.00 less than I thought it would be, and they had me back on the road the same day. I can't say enough good stuff about eagle. I was having issues with my vehicle, I dropped it off on Friday as I left town, he informed that they would not proceed without my approval once they had diagnosed it. When I returned from my trip I went to the shop because I had not heard anything. Apparently I was just low on fluid. Tim handed me my keys and told me to come back when I had a real problem. He topped off the fluid and gave me some things to keep an eye on. He was very cool and upfront about the whole thing. Not that I want to return to the shop, but rest assured when I do have issues I will definitely take my vehicle back to them!!! The crew at Eagle Transmission is amazing! I had to have my transmission replaced (that was supposed to be covered by Acura's recall) and they charged me far less than anyone else would have. Not only that, their quality of work is backed up. I had my transmission re-built by them over two years ago and the warranty on their repair is expired. I recently had problems with my transmission leaking fluid and they fixed it for free! Not only that, when I dropped off my car I planned on waiting for it since I had no other ride. Amazing!! That's what I have to say about Eagle. I had a new transmission put into my 2001 Honda Passport in November. Around May it started to slip even though it was BRAND NEW! I took it back to the shop in Round Rock where it had be installed. They said the fixed whatever was wrong with it. Well, 3 months later it starts to slip AGAIN! Long story short- the team here looked at my car and gave me advice on what to do, all at no charge. In fact, they actually recommended not digging into repairs as it might become incredibly costly and wouldn't really be worth it based on the condition and value of my car. My wife and I were blessed to do business with Eagle Transmission in 2008 and have had no problems with the quality of their work since then. Then Friday i had another problem with the drive train and I knew immediately where I was taking my car, back to Eagle and Tim & Co. Turns out that it's not a transmission related issue but a differential related problem, with 275K miles no surprise. They diagnosed the problem at no charge but unfortunately for me they don't work on differentials. Fearing the worse, i.e. new transmission, I got on Yelp and found Eagle Transmission and all its great reviews. Now we all know the biggest concern when we take our car in for service is the honesty of the shop and our second biggest concern is how skillful the shop is at repairs. I could have so easily been ripped-off. But the very skilled technician at Eagle not only figured out what my problem was (it wasn't the transmission), but I didn't even get charged for the diagnosis. And then, Eagle Transmission directed me to a shop they considered the best in town for my particular problem. They come out on top on all that matters: honesty and skill. (Well, I guess price of the repair could be important too but I can't speak to that.) My dad, who is old-school and doesn't even use Yelp (can you imagine that) was beyond amazed at Eagle Transmission's service and honesty. Took in my 2008 Ford F-150 this week for Transmission filter and fluid change. Bought the truck used with no service record history. Guys at Eagle did consultation and added quart and half of fluid and told me they would recommend I not service the transmission due to age and the fact it hadn't ever been serviced - that in their expert opinions they may be causing me more repairs as new fluid would begin to potentially cause slipping. No charge. How honest is that. I had heard this before so wasn't surprised and thankful to know that all their free testing resulted in no error codes. Advice was to keep it topped off and drive away. In addition to the above I had a vacuum line ripped loose and a front 4x4 axle issue - they provided great referral to another shop that has handled the work expertly too. Thank you Eagle! read more

I was having some trouble with my transmission. I recently oved to Austin and wanted to find a trustworthy place to take my car to. After reading reviews on yelp, I decided on Eagle Transmission. My car is 13 years old so I am always cautious of places trying to sell me on getting expensive fixes for stuff taht doesn't really need to be fixed. Eagle transmission did not do this. They kept mycar over night and found a leak. They fixed fixed the leak and didnt' charge me a dime and wouldn't even take a tip! This proved to me that they are not concerned with taking advantage of people to make a few bucks but rather building a good customer base. During the whole process they communicated with me clearly what was going on and what they were doing. Tim, the owner, is very involved with the business and customers, which I value in a local business. I will definitely be taking my car there again if something goes wrong. The only thing to be aware of is they are not open on weekends (except for emergency towing). read more

These guys are as good as it gets. They did a free inspection of my transmission and came back with a good report. This is surprisingly different from my other experiences at shops in which there is always something needing to be fixed. They spent the time going over my engine and transmission and found a communication error between the computers, but they told me it was something that would need to be looked at by an electrical specialist. My point is, they are not looking for things to be fixed just to make a sale. Tim spent time explaining the diagnostic process to me and making recommendations for the future care of my transmission. I had my Land Rover worked on a couple of months ago and Joe Werner and the staff of Eagle Transmission were amazing. My 98 Land Rover Discovery tanked on me on Capital of Texas Highway in Austin and I was convinced by the massive grinding and the fact it would not engage forward or backward that it was definitely the transmission. I had it towed to their Eagle Transmission location on Manchaca - and it turns out that it was not the transmission at all - it was the drive train - somehow it froze up and broke off on the front end. Talk about honest guys! And instead of Eagle Transmission simply sending me away to somewhere else, they removed the drive train, sent it off to be repaired and then reinstalled it. These guys are the best, and I can make an unqualified recommendation to anyone needing transmission work. Several years ago when a nearby auto shop told me I needed a $4000 transmission rebuild on my 1 ton Dodge pickup, I decided to get a second opinion. Eagle sent a wrecker to pickup my truck from the neighborhood shop and deliver it to their Manchaca location. A couple hours later I got a call from Eagle that my truck was ready to go. What??? And the charge will be $36. WHAT????? All it needed was a new sensor. They could have easily trumped up phony charges that I would have swallowed, but they did not. Fast forward a few years and that same truck, which is used primarily for hauling, really did need a rebuild. Eagle did the work... courteous, timely, good communication...yada yada... and I had a 36,000 mile warranty. At 35,650 miles the transmission started acting up again, and they repaired it promptly under warranty. After another 15k miles or so the transmission again started acting up. By this point I was pretty sure that the transmission problem was being caused by an abusive driver/employee...it was damaged in a way that was nearly impossible to imagine happening without abusive shifting under heavy hauling loads.... but once again, Eagle repaired it at $0 charge to me (with a gentle warning that the next time somebody breaks this tranny it's on me), even though I was well outside their written warranty. I have complete faith that Tim and his guys will always shoot straight and go above and beyond. I'll never look for another transmission shop. read more

Several years ago I bought a used truck with nearly 175k miles. Go figure it started leaking fluid soon after. I took it to a different shop with high ratings and their mechanic, who had some serious anger issues, ended up replacing a couple of seals and WAY overfilling my transmission fluid (18" wide puddles every day in different parking spaces). My pump blew out after a couple weeks and they claimed no responsibility even after telling me my tranny was fine. They tried to sub it out to a friend of theirs but I took it to Eagle instead (a recommendation from Lugnuts). Couldn't have expected a better experience. The man behind the counter (one of the owners I think) was very helpful and would not speak badly about the other shop (professional courtesy) but explained that it might or might not be unrelated to overfilled fluid and there was no way to know for sure. I researched the topic online for hours afterwards and came up with the same results. Eagle transmissions was straight up with me and took the time to explain the details of what had happened and how they planned to resolve it. He spoke in layman's terms so I could better understand, which was greatly appreciated. I even got a lesson in how transmissions work. It was an awesome experience. They gave me a quote which was a reasonable and competitive price and ended up resolving the issue with a price at the lower end of said quote. Rarely happens in this industry. I always felt well-informed and well taken care of at Eagle Transmission and after 50,000 miles on the rebuild I still have never had any issues with the work. No leaks, grindage, odd noises, vibrations, and no slips. These guys are solid. They went far and beyond my expectations of an honest shop. read more

We took our SUV to a couple of shops where we were told we would need a completely new transmission at a cost of about $3200. We tried Eagle after reading all the reviews and they said we did not need a new transmission. We now have a much better transmission and saved about $800. We have to bring the car back in for a check up in another week and this is free of charge. While we were in the shop, we spoke with another customer who said he had been using Eagle for a few years and has always been happy with their work and prices. Great service and we will use Eagle Trasmission going forward if we have any trouble with our other cars. read more

He indicated the shop is reviewing their policy for this issue with the 2002 Explorer. He explained the thinking on the rebuild (150k miles, known faulty transmission in that model year). So there I was, in Austin's rainy MoPac traffic. I thought, my tires just keep slipping. I had no traction on a little hill. It wasn't until I exited and began heading home, instead of work, that I realized it wasn't my tires, it was my transmission. It was actually slipping in transit at 40 MPH. I didn't know what to expect, but the first thing I did was get online and check out reviews of local transmission businesses. Eagle Transmission had absolutely no negative feedback and they were close to my house, but with so many locations I guess you'd be hard pressed to live where there wasn't one in Austin! I took my car there for an inspection. They concurred it was my transmission, but they couldn't really do anything until Monday. They called by 10 am Monday and told me, to my chagrin, it WAS the worst case scenario. The entire transmission had to be replaced. It was shredded. They completed the work by Wednesday. Tim, the manager was so informative, professional and friendly. They offer a 3 year warranty on their work and I'm sure I know why. They are really good. After the work was done, Tim told me to bring the vehicle back either after 2 weeks or 500 miles, when it was "broken in", for an inspection. I followed through with that last week and they validated my warranty. During the 10 minutes I waited for the inspection be to completed, Tim explained if there was any issue at all I should not hesitate to bring it back right away, and they would make it right. They also honored their offer of up to $250, which was reflected in the final bill. Then today, Joe, the owner, called me and asked if I was pleased with my service. Was my car performing well? Would I recommend Eagle Transmission to others? I answered with a resounding "Yes!" on all counts. Courteous, professional service, great follow up and a car that's rolling along better than ever. I'm awestruck. My 2007 Toyota Corolla started shaking and vibrating loudly last Friday. Changing gears and I'd hear loud metal slamming against metal and other pops and clanking sounds, and the car would lurch violently as the gears found their mark. I was foreseeing a multi-thousand dollar repair. I took it in first thing this morning and by 9:45am they called me back telling me the transmission mounting bolts had come lose and the transmission was hanging down and out of alignment. They lifted it into proper alignment, replaced the mounting bolts, and now it drives like the day I bought it. To top it off, they considered it too easy to fix. I don't want to get hopes up too high but they didn't charge me a thing and explained the problem very clearly. I've never heard of a shop this good. Just... WOW! read more
