After I experienced a jarring shake from our transmission when shifting from drive to reverse, I immediately parked my car to prevent further damage to what seemed like a clear transmission problem. I had my Ford Fusion towed to Leif Johnson Ford's service department. The following day I received a call from my "Service Agent" to inform me that my transmission had suffered a fatal breakdown and would need to be replaced at a cost of $6,048. Our "Service Agent" assured us that the car had been physically inspected, and the computer readout indicated that without a doubt the transmission had completely failed and needed to be replaced. Fortunately for me, my wife is not as trusting as I am. She asked me to look for a transmission shop, to get a second opinion. I noticed Eagle Transmission's high review marks and told'ed I was sending the car over to them. LJF charged me $160 for diagnosing the car before I could have it towed away. I did not tell Eagle Transmission what was wrong with the car. Just that I was having an issue with the transmission. The following day I received a call from Scott, from ET. He informed me that the transmission had been inspected and nothing was wrong with it! Apparently the car had arrived at ET with my receipt for the diagnosis from LJF communicating their assessment of a catastrophic transmission failure. Scott informed me that he was aware of LJF's diagnosis, but that the car had been out on an extensive test drive and their computer was not identifying any issues. (Scott did find a minor leak that he said we could fix, or wait till it became a more pressing issue, but that $325 leak could wait.) In disbelief I asked Scott to hold the car for a day, and test drive it the following day. The next day I received a call informing me that the car had been out on another extended drive and nothing was wrong with it. (The jarring shake I experienced that day, has not happened again. I have now been driving the car for over a week.) I am well aware that Eagle Transmission could have told me that indeed I needed a new transmission, and sold me literally nothing! Leaving a 5-star review, and I've never stepped foot in Eagle Transmission. Let me explain... I had been calling around getting prices for a transmission fluid flush and replacement. I got them from each auto shop, mostly corporate chains, but when I contacted Eagle, I didn't get a price. Instead, I was directed to Joe, one of the owners, who proceeded to ask me the make and model of my car as well as the mileage. I told him, a little taken aback as to why, because none of the other places had inquired that information. He told me that with the high mileage on my vehicle, a transmission flush and fluid replacement could potentially do more harm than good to my car. I have never gotten such transparency from an auto shop regardless of the problem and without money being the predominant topic and being actually dissuaded from a needless auto service, which most places will accept in order to make a dime. Joe and Eagle Transmission sincerely have the customer's best interest in mind, and if I or my friends and family ever have transmission problems, I will definitely refer them to Eagle every time. Just talking to Joe on the phone, I decided I'd have a beer with that dude. That's a good first impression, and first impressions are hard to break. My impression of Eagle won't be broken easily. When searching for a transmission repair shop, to help a friend whose transmission failed, I came across the reviews for Eagle Transmission. I am usually a bit suspicious of on-line reviews, which can of course be a crafted. Yet when reading the reviews I found they were very believable. So I directed my friend to get his transmission repaired at Eagle. My experience in helping to get my friend's car repaired was very consistent with the reviews I had read. So yes, the reviews are pretty accurate. Tim is a pleasure to deal with and I believe an honest person. I trust Eagle will honor their 3 year warranty, which is similar to why you would get with a new vehicle. I could tell from my experience that customers are foremost in everything they do at Eagle. Unfortunately this not common enough in local business, from my experience at least. Later I scheduled with Tim to get the transmission and differential oil changed on my truck. There was no need to change the transmission oil but they checked out the transmission, changed the differential oil and inspected the driver train. I was pleasantly surprised when I returned to pick up the truck that there was no charge. This just never happens in my experience. Scared about dreaded transmission problems? Let me help you out since I did a lot of legwork to find these guys. My transmission warning light came on while driving my Ford F150 while moving residences. Naturally, not the right time to have this problem. I took my truck to my normal mechanic who quoted me a reasonable price but they didn't do the work themselves - they "farmed" it out since they just removed and replaced. I took it to another shop near my new abode, and got a slightly higher quote but with a better warranty. This second shop then tried some shady add-ons to the original scope of work and the cost went up dramatically. Now I was mad. Then I found Eagle Transmission through some reviews. After speaking with John at the north location, I found out that Eagle actually supplied rebuilt transmissions to other shops including the one where I had my second estimate. Eagle Transmission had the best price, the longest warranty and were expedient in getting me back on the road. I inherited a 2001 Ford F250 Turbo Diesel 4x4 monster truck with over 400,000 miles (yes, that is not a typo). Right as I was preparing to sell it, the transmission quit shifting into reverse. I found a receipt where Eagle had done work on the truck years before so a family member called and explained the history and problem. Tim, the General Manager, remembered the original owner and told us to bring it in. As you might expect with a vehicle this old and this many miles, it needed the transmission replaced. I went to Eagle Transmission to get a second opinion on my car. Actually, I originally took my car to Klingemans and they gave me a $2200 estimate to replace my transmission. When I called Eagle, the guy was so nice and told me he would suggest bringing it over for a second opinion. NO CHARGE for diagnostics. I dropped it off and asked Tim and the other worker where the closest bank was so I could get change for the bus. After looking it up online for me, he said he was going my way and gave me a ride home. SO NICE! He dropped me off at home and they kept my car over night. The next day they called to tell me it was an electric problem..estimate $350 bucks. SOLD! I was so happy to hear it was going to cost me that much to get it fixed. They fixed me up and I picked up my car the next day. Over 500 miles later I am still in good shape. I also got a follow up call from the owner of Eagle just to see how things were going. I LOVE THIS PLACE! I wish they did more than just transmissions. Although I hope I don't have to go back again for awhile, I will surely go straight there when something happens. While we were visiting our son and his family in Austin, we were dismayed when our Honda CRV, which we were towing with our motorhome, developed transmission trouble. Tim suggested a free diagnostic and an estimate for repairs, for which we were thankful. Because of the age of our vehicle and the cost to repair, we made the difficult decision to not repair the car. We were so grateful that Tim, at Eagle Transmission, let us leave our car there for several days while we deliberated all sides of our situation...calling Canada and US customs, trying to arrange towing home, etc. We were totally blown away that at the end of this time, and all the help we received, the excellent care and service, Tim refused to accept payment! I was having some problems with my Chevy Silverado transmission down shifting and went to the dealership Capitol Chevrolet. Without looking at my truck Capitol Chevrolet was quick to tell me that it was a major problem and that I shouldn't even drive it off the lot because I was going to cause further irreparable damage. They offered a diagnostic for $600.00. I felt like I was being pressured with an un-honest sales pitch. I am glad I followed my gut instinct. I booked an appointment for a free diagnostic with Tim at Eagle Transmission and left my truck for the day. All day I was worried on how much the repairs were going to cost. At the end of the day when I went to pick up my truck, Tim informed me that there was no problem my transmission and the problem was with a vacuum leak in the engine compartment. I just moved to Austin from Albuquerque. I've only been here for a week. When I saw that my transmission was leaking I panicked. I thought it was going to ruin the savings I brought with me on the move, or I just might end up without a car for a while. I looked up on yelp and saw a lot of really positive reviews for Eagle Transmission. I brought my car down there and spoke with Tim. I felt nervous to hear the issue but it turned out to be my cooling tube had burnt up. It was such a relief to know I wouldn't be broke because of my car. When I came down to pick the car up, I spoke to Tim again, he told me what they did to fix the issue and how they got the new cooling tube from the dealership to fix it. I was thrilled. Back in January, I spoke with Tim about what could possibly be wrong with my car, a 2014 Mustang. Of course, he was unable to do so unless he ran a diagnostic, free of charge. Upon doing so, a code came up and he did research. Turns out it was a censor that needed to be replaced located inside the transmission. My car had 139,000 miles on it and (bad on my part) the transmission fluid had never been changed. He gave me his professional opinion of either having the part and the transmission fluid changed, with no guarantee that the car would move off the lift once completed, or trade the car in (the amount to have it fixed was more than what the car was worth). I chose the latter. I would recommend Tim at Eagle Transmission, South Austin to any and everybody. He is there to give you his upmost professional opinion. I took my Nissan Titan in and they let me know I had transmission problems. They also let me know it was still under warranty and that I should take it to Nissan to get it fixed for free. They wouldn't take any money for the diagnosis testing. Which was amazing. I took the truck to Nissan who stated it wasn't still under warranty. Given that Eagle Transmission is respected and knows what they are talking about I asked to speak with a manager. The manager dug deeper and low and behold it was under warranty. I got a brand new transmission out of it. And, had them fix the AC issue too. Which as it turns out was under warranty as well. All in all Eagle is a very professional outfit with a well deserved reputation. They saved me around $4-5K. read more

I don't normally write reviews but my recent experience with Eagle Transmission of South Austin compelled me to comment. I'm a retired female, and am always skeptical about repair shops. Not only did I find the staff attentive, but I was met at the door with a smile and a welcome. This was a Friday afternoon, I didn't have an appointment, and after a brief conversation with Tim (manager) was told to expect my car to be in the shop for the weekend in order to make the proper diagnosis. Happy to report that today I picked up my vehicle as promised and better still, was told my issue was very minor, it was repaired, so I am back on the road. Great experience. My transmission went out 3k miles from when my extended warranty was up. I took it in and spoke with Joe. From there, they took care of everything with the warranty company. I left out of town and couldn't be reached by phone. They kept me up to date through email on the progress of the job. When I went to pick my truck up, my cost was invoiced substantially more than we discussed. Tim and Joe came out, we figured out what happened. It was an accounting error on behalf of Eagle and my warranty company. After reading other reviews on here I took my car in to Eagle Transmission. I had an older car (2001) and the transmission started shifting hard. My plan was to see if it would be a cheap enough fix to keep it running and if not buy a different car. The service from the get go was friendly and fast. They assessed the vehicle and called back the next day. For my given situation it was not worth proceeding as the car was not worth much, but the assessment was FREE of charge and they even informed me of non-transmission issues so that I could make a more informed decision. I took my Pontiac g6 there when the transmission went out. They had it fixed within a week and I got my car back running like a champ. About a year later it developed a leak and started acting up so I called to see about my warranty. It was still valid, I took it back, they fixed the leak and did a transmission service at no cost to me. They have great customer service, are glad to answer any questions, and kept me updated almost daily about how the repair was going. The initial repair was a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. My model of car isn't really known for having a rock solid transmission, so I knew I needed something with a decent warranty. I brought my Mazda 6 into Eagle Transmission since my car was not shifting into 4th gear. They were all very courteous and understanding. They had my car for a few days since I needed it to be rebuilt. When I picked up my car it was working great. However, the next day it started to mess up again. I called them back up and they had a tow truck come pick up my car at work since I could not leave and was working a 12 hour shift. They fixed the problem, a defective part, and had my car towed back to my work. Plus they gave me an extra year warranty on my transmission due to this problem. My vehicle is running good now. I took my truck in initially for a transmission rebuild and when I got my truck back, it wasn't working like I thought it should. I took it back to have them address the situation, and the manager insisted multiple times that nothing was wrong with my truck. I had to call the owner, Joe, and explained my situation. He rectified the situation by having the shop redo the transmission work more thoroughly. Now, my truck is running great. Mr. Tim and Joe were very forthright with my transmission troubles. I brought my car in midday and they let me know due to volume they wouldn't be able to check it until the following day, and allowed me to make arrangements around that. The following day around noon, they called me with their assessment and quoted me exactly what the charged me upon my final visit. Additionally, they were more than happy to speak to my warranty company and collaborate with any parts that were covered. The valve body on my car busted and the dealership quoted me over $1800, I figured I would seek a second opinion. I am glad I did, I found my new favorite auto shop. I called several other shops that did not do transmission work and they all recommended Tim. Tim confirmed what the dealership said, gave me even more information and gave me a more reasonable price to fix the car. I will hopefully never have transmission issues again, but if I do I will 100% take it to Tim and Eagle Transmission.
