The Manager, Brent is extremely rude and disrespectful and arrogant. I went to get a diagnostic of my truck transmission on 1/14 and the Manager, Brent told me to come again next day as he was too busy. So, the following day when I went there, he made me fill up a form, took my truck key and asked me to wait. I was there for over half an hour and during this time this Manager or any of his employees came to tell me why it was taking so long and how much longer I had to wait. During this time, I saw a couple of employees walk by, but the shop was empty and no one was working there. Finally, I got fed up of being ignored like this and asked the Manager to return my key, which he refused and said he will return it after he finishes his cell phone call with another customer. I said I can get it myself or someone can just hand it to me, but he was adamant and told me to go back to my seat. I asked him if I was a prisoner here and will call the police to which he said "go ahead". While i was calling 911 another employee came and handed me the key, with Brent shouting at me" don't ever come back here again". No apology, no explanation at all during this entire period. read more

Horrible! I wish I could give ZERO stars. We spent $9000 on a transmission repair for our daughter's car. One day after picking it up, it started smoking from under the hood and eventually caught fire. Luckily, she was smart enough to call 911 before the front of the car was engulfed in flames. We reached out to APlus Transmission after this happened and sent video and photos of the damage. They told us they would be in touch....NOTHING! They are an irresponsible and negligent company. I recently took my 1991 GMC Sierra truck in for transmission evaluation. She's an old girl but we love her. I was recommended by my mechanic to APlus. Otherwise, I was unfamiliar with them. Their reviews are awful and that concerned me but I trust my mechanic. Brent w/APlus was my first contact by phone. First few minutes of the call he was a little short and flippant as I was only asking for a broad range for pricing. Ultimately he said 1700-3000. As the conversation progressed he was more accommodating. He had it towed at no charge. It took one day to evaluate and he gave estimate of $1995 all in including tax. Which I thought was reasonable. He indicated he saved me $500-$700 be using some refurbished parts. It was done in 2 days. After the initial first minutes of our convo Brent and entire experience was prompt, pleasant they delivered timely. I liked that they did not require payment or deposit or any such upfront. Good way to build trust. Only driven 10 miles but seems swell so far. Still unclear if corners were cut but happy at this point. Watch for hopefully very positive updates! read more

ABSOLUTE CROOKS!!! Stay as far away from this company as possible!!! Charged me $3650 for washing the oil off my truck, from all appearances, and they "worked" on my truck two times for a total of 3 weeks. After providing them numerous opportunities to resolve my concerns, they have refused to provide verifiable documentation to prove that any work was done. I have taken the truck to another mechanic that verified all the external work they claim was done was not completed. Also, he had to replace the seal from output shaft to driveshaft that was leaking because they reused the original instead of replacing it. I now have to pay him to drop the transmission to verify that the clutch assembly and flywheel was replaced. read more

Wow. These guys are the definition of shady. Especially Brent, he's the spitting image of arrogance. Expect to pay $600+ just for them do a diagnostic and then charge up the a** for labor alone. $175/hr-ish for labor, but they won't give you any price estimate until you've paid the $600, we had to really pry, and then only got a labor estimate. It wasn't just the ridiculous pricing that was off-putting. Brent argued extensively with us when we tried to get the car towed to a better shop before any work was done. Then proceeded to leave the shop when we asked for them to move our car back up front so the tow truck could access it. Overall bad vibes from this place. HIGHLY recommend if you have transmission issues, go elsewhere. There are much more professional shops in Austin. After reading other reviews it's clear Brent needs to be fired and is socially inept. PLEASE save yourself the headache of Brent and go to AAMCO or Pistole if you have transmission issues. read more

Took my car to A plus for a second opinion. They offer free estimate and inspection. I told the front desk I was going to have to think and find financing for the repair. My transmission pan was put back on incorrectly that I was leaking transmission an creating a smoke hazard on the street. I even had one driver was so concerned he followed me home to make I wasn't going to catch on fire. Now I have transmission fluid all over my driveway. They said they would fix it and it was back again for 2 weeks and they couldn't figure out where to get a special seal. So, I went to pick it up "AS-IS" They charged me full price for work they never did and MADE ME PAY CASH!!! Jim is a straight up Thief. We'll be filing suit very soon. read more

I've been coming here for about three years when I first came in I needed to fix my transmission and we ended up rebuilding the transmission. Bad advice by Brent and bad decision on my end. Swindled into rebuilding the transmission Brent knew that the transmission would have complications leaving a bread crum trail of mechanical problems to follow. Instead of insisting on a new transmission Brent knew rebuilding the transmission would lead to more business for him down the line. 3 years only 30,000 miles later the transmission is having valve body issues knowing this would happen 3 years ago Brent did not replace the valve body. Anybody with a brain could see the shady business practice this boy is conducting. All in all we should have replaced the transmission I would have had a 100,000 mile warranty. It would've cost maybe another $1,500 on top of what I paid to be build it was about $3,800. Now I'm looking at a old rebuilt transmission that needs work by a real specialist. Having a Lexus is nice but the amount of hate and lies your told about Maintenance and fixing these vehicles is outrageous. You can't get a straight answer out of anyone. Not only that I've been coming in here for the same problem for years slow shifts of the gears, I feel a lag in the acceleration every time I come in here it's the same problem never to be fixed. They charge $175 per hour for labor which is definitely not worth it. Hell tell u all day he's worth it but the guy is a scam artist. read more

I'm a mechanic and have a solid understanding of the work and attention to detail that goes into automotive repair. They let me stand in the bay and watched as they worked on my car and every step was thoughtful and precise. The shop manager is outgoing and friendly, the mechanics are eager to help and very knowledgeable, and you can't beat the price. They knew exactly what was wrong, exactly how to fix it, and went above and beyond to make sure I received the highest care possible. The inspection was free, the diagnostic was free, the work was timely, and most importantly it was done right. If you want to haggle and be drug under a bus for your repairs, feel free to go anywhere else. This shop has earned a lifelong customer with what they did for me. Also, just as a note.. I just realized that all of these negative reviews were made by accounts that haven't really done much else in the way of yelping or that the issue was from a past experience. Stay away from this place!! These people are crooks. Total, complete crooks. I took my car in to get the transmission fluid changed, with the coupon that some of the other reviewers had mentioned. I had not had any trouble with my transmission, other than that it had slipped a couple times when really cold, because, what do ya know, I needed my transmission fluid changed. I took it in and they kept it for a day. I got a call at 5 minutes before they closed saying they didn't have the chance to get to it today and could they keep it overnight. What choice did I have? They were about to close, it was rush hour, and I didn't have a car. Sure, fine, keep it. But I told them I absolutely had to have it back in the morning because I had to get to work. They said that'd be fine. The next day they called at 10am and told me that there was an issue with my transmission, but they couldn't tell me what it was without a test that would take an entire day and THREE GRAND in labor costs. Um, no thanks, just change the fluid and give me my car back. They refused to change the fluid, so I just asked them to give me my car back as soon as possible. "Well, we took the filter off and have your fluid in a bucket so we need to replace that, it'll take about an hour" Again, what choice did I have? Please hurry, as I said the day before, I needed to have my car for work. One hour went by, two went by, almost three and I called them again. "Oh we still need to put the filter back on and the fluid in. We will call you when it's done" Another hour, two hours, it was almost closing time when I finally took a cab up there and stood there til someone helped me. At that point I was told that my car was finished, had been for a while, but that the manager was gone and I couldn't take my car without his approval. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I had to wait another 45 minutes there for the manager to show up so I could get my keys back. When he finally showed up I was lectured as to how they really shouldn't even let me drive the car off the lot because it was so dangerous. TOTAL CRAP. I took the car, went straight to my regular mechanic right before closing time (who, the only reason I didn't take the car to in the first place was because I didn't think he'd do such a small job like a fluid change....), and told him what had happened. He rolled his eyes, said that was absolutely ridiculous and that he'd get it done in 20 minutes. 20 minutes, fluid changed, and there was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with my transmission, other than the fact that it needed it's fluid changed. (By the way, if you have a Toyota, go to Mark at An Honest Mechanic, he's the best) Moral of the story- STAY AWAY from these guys. They're thieves. The coupon is a bait-and-switch technique to try to convince you that your transmission needs a $3,000 overhaul (see other reviews for what happens when you agree to it), and when you don't agree, they hold your car hostage. We were referred here by another auto shop that was too busy to get to us same day. A plus was able to have our vehicle towed from the other auto shop and replaced the alternator and battery Same Day, even though our truck didn't get there until the afternoon. I don't know how they did it! But we were driving off their lot by closing time. The manager Brent went above and beyond to get the parts they needed quickly before the parts place closed for the day and I am sure that he would go out of his way to do so for any customer that walks in. Everyone seemed to work together seamlessly to help every customer who stopped in while we were there. I can't thank the team (Brent and the auto technicians., etc,) enough! We traveled to Austin from New Orleans and they totally saved our trip. Thankyou! Thankyou! Also, we were chatting with another customer while we waited and he told us that he had 2 vehicles worked on at A plus (transmission in both) and they did good work on his vehicles. I recently got my mini copper transmission flushed at A plus transmission the service cost 129 they did have to order bmw transmission fluid which is great because I want the best for my car .i felt they did a good job and super quick. they offer transmission flushes for 39.99 on most cars which is super affordable ! Hands down the best price in town for the service . Even though I had to pay more you have to realize certain engines need special blends of fluid to maintain the up keep of the transmission thanks to the Internet and the mini manual I already was aware of these facts so the up charge wasn't a surprise and the service will last 50,000 miles that's awesome . The waiting room has an awesome couch with great back support was really nice and comfortable so I was able to lay down read a book eat breakfast tacos( they do not supply breakfast taco you must bring your own ) while my car was getting service. They seem pretty knowledgeable and helpful. I would recommend going to A plus for routine maintenance at affordable prices and fast service can't speak for major overhauls but I hoping with routine tlc on my transmission I won't have to worry about a major over haul in my future. read more

Stay AWAY, FAR FAR AWAY!!!!! We had A+ do a transmission rebuild (we knew it needed done) and recently had an issue where our truck would stall when put in reverse. We took it back to A+ since the transmission is still under warranty. We were then told it was not the transmission, but the differential...and it would cost us $1400. Okay, we can do that. 2 days later, we got a call saying our Axils also need replaced and that will cost us $200 each extra. Now we are up to $1800....not happy but go ahead. So, 3 days later the truck is FINALLY done. When we go to pick it up they say "That will be $2398. ".....WAIT, WHAT?????? They said the axils cost more than they estimated. But they never called to authorize the extra costs. Next thing they say is Oh, we also warrantied your transmission because it was stalling when we put it in reverse and it was due to the transmission. THAT IS THE WHOLE REASON WE BROUGHT IT THERE. We should have left the place not spending a penny, but instead they tried ripping us off. My husband paid $2000 in cash and told them he would be back with the rest. Well, he decided to call the manager and tell him they needed to talk because he feels like he is getting ripped off. We will see how that goes but we will NOT be returning. read more

Yesterday my car broke down as I was pulling out of Straight Music on S Lamar & Ben White. I cautiously crossed over a few lanes and pulled in to the first side street. Fortunately for me (thanks Universe!), I ended up right in front of A+ Transmission Specialists. I looked on Yelp and saw a boatload of terrible reviews, which made me nervous, but what choice did I have other than to tow my car somewhere else which would add time and money to fixing the problem at hand. I went in and was greeted by the manager David, who was very nice and helpful. He immediately sent one of his guys out to my car to perform a free check. Turns out, my alternator had broken. David thoroughly explained what an alternator is, what it does, and what the specific issue was. I asked for a quote, which came to $334 for the part and about $110 for labor with a 2-year warranty on the alternator. David was completely honest with me and said the part cost for him was $200 and the $134 was their markup. I looked online for the average price of alternators for my car's make and model (Nissan Altima SL) and it was within the range. I even called my mechanic friend to see if he would be able to change the part himself for much cheaper and the difference would've been negligible, so I went ahead with A+. While waiting, I even asked David why there are so many poor reviews on Yelp for A+ in this location. Turns out, there's been a change in ownership. They had very hands off ownership/management in the past and so they brought David here to this location from another city because he did very well there. His reviews from A+ elsewhere are great. The new ownership is more hands-on, they are more honest with fairer pricing, and give better customer service. They fixed my car while I waited in the lobby. I was in and out within 2.5 hours from car break down to pulling out of the shop. The problem is solved and my car appears to be running fine now. Big thanks to David at A+ for his professionalism and great service. I've only been in Austin for 6 months, so I'm not claiming that this place is the best in town, but I would recommend David at A+ to friends so long as they still do their research of parts and labor cost on a case-by-case basis. I've given 4 stars instead of 5 stars because I want to see how my car runs in the coming weeks/months. read more

Was having lots of trouble with my transmission. Took it in and they found a leak. Unfortunately it led to me needing a whole new transmission. I trusted that I was getting an honest opinion from the manager. He took the time to show me the problem and actually bring out the part where the leak was so I can see. I had never heard of a shop doing that before so I thought it was great! I was also happy that they work on Saturdays. The other shop that I had talked to did not and that makes it very hard to get your car back when you depend on it for your job. I had a few questions after it was installed. They answer them right away an they even took me on a quick test drive a few days after to make sure that it was going well. My particular transmission came with a one-year warranty. I called and asked to bring it in for a check up before the warranty expired. They did not require me do you have an appointment. I went to the Travis County appraisal district and this company is listed on the tax records and the mailing address goes to Houston, Tx. Next thing you know they are going to have this mailing address changed to reflect a local address I suppose. All I can do is assume these are lies. And if it was true, that it is now locally owned, too bad he wasn't a smart business person doing his due diligence to find out the reputation of this company. And then steering clear of making a questionable or imprudent purchase of said business. Just because you are the new owner means nothing. You have no track record. You are now the owner of a business that in the past has had the potential from reading other yelper reviews of costing car owners who work hard for their money possibly tens of thousands of dollars in overcharges and work that possibly never needed to be done. He was very sincere and actually LISTENED to my complaint. David called the manager (SCOTT) and they both worked to get the transmission leak fixed in a timely manner. They were both understanding, helpful and professional in dealing with my issue. Scott, who is the manager for the ben white location, actually spotted an oil leak from my valve cover gasket I had no idea of. My transmission is still doing what it was doing before the initial rebuild and David is currently working to resolve the issue. I am very pleased and satisfied with this new management, its what was needed. This place was recommended by my trusted auto mechanic so I had every expectation it would be a positive experience but the experience was anything but positive and I will NEVER recommend them! I dropped my car off at 9am and received a call from Brendt an hour later saying he could not duplicate the issue and asked to keep it over night. I asked him, since I had only driven it 10 minutes to the garage, could he instead do a test drive after it sat for a few hours since I use my car for my job. He agreed to the plan and when I hung up, realized we hadn't discussed his findings from the free 21 point assessment, we only discussed my concerns. I called him back, got v.m., left a message asking for him to call me back. I never got a call back, at 5:30 I called the garage to see what was going on and got v.m., again. I looked on line, noted they stayed open until 6 and they had a different # listed other than the one Brendt had called me on that morning. I called that number, Brendt answered and that's when things went bad. He told me he did test drive it, could not duplicate the issue, that I had left him a rude message ( the message where I am asking him where my car was after not hearing back) claimed I didn't listen to him and when I mistakenly thought he said his name was Fred not Brendt on the phone that morning, he said if I couldn't even get his name right, he didn't want to do business with me and hung up. When we went to pick up the car, I asked for the manager and Brendt said he was the manager. He reiterated how rude I was to him, he didn't want any drama (who was causing drama here?) brought up again how insulted he was I heard his name wrong (really?) wished me a good life and began walking away. I told him he was the one that was rude and he didn't deserve my business. At that point he threatened to call the police! (on what grounds?) This felt more like a bad break up than a business interaction. As the Yelp review from Chris K. on 6/29/21 states, Brendt needs to be fired. He should instead seek out anger management training and pursue a job where he does not have to interact with the general public! read more

Do NOT go here. DANGER! I see there are plenty of other horror stories about A PLUS TRANSMISSIONS on Yelp, but I felt compelled to add mine: I am a pretty good mechanic. The transmission in my 5 year old Dodge pickup lost 2nd gear. I pulled the transmission out myself and carried it in on Thursday. David, a very nice fellow greeted us and said they offer a free tear down service and they'd show me what the problems are. I said OK and came back Friday. He showed me the snapped 2nd gear and also one of the other gears that THEY broke during the disassembly. He said they would cover the cost of replacing that and he'd have a bid for me Monday. I stopped by on Monday; NO DAVID. The owner informed me that DAVID DOESN'T WORK HERE, he was just covering for me last week. The estimate? $3200. I said i don't think so. He said, well, we can do it for $2800. I said, "I'll think about it and get back to you." I left and before i got home my cell phone was ringing. Guess who? "I talked to 'the shop' and they can do it for $2400." No thanks, just put it back together. I spent 5 minutes on ebay, got a guaranteed replacement shipped from Oklahoma for $745. plus $90. shipping. When I went back to get the bad one, the owner went ballistic. "I'm not putting that back together for you. I'm not going to spend another minute on it. i don't care what DAVID told you, I'm the owner, what I say goes." He wanted to get paid to stick it back together so I can send it back as a core. I got back a box of broken parts and a lecture from the guy. read more

Car had minor difficulty with shifting so took it in for a diagnostic at dealer and went to A Plus for a 2nd opinion. Dealer quoted me at $1200, A Plus estimated $3000+ in work. As soon as I left I knew something was wrong, as shifting was virtually impossible. Thankfully I live very close and limped the car home. Had it towed to dealer for repair. Turns out A Plus drained the transmission fluid and never put it back when I declined service. Never go here. read more

If I could give a negative I would!!!!! We payed them to rebuild a transmission. They completely left of the wiring harness and the torque control sensor which would cause the transmission to burn out. When we brought the car it was to the round Rock location Got it back brought it right back because check engine light and computer code reading transmission code. Took it to mechanic said it's them minor exhaust leak but transmission code is them. Moved Austin asked if we could take it to the Ben white location and was told no problem. Gary who was very rude told us he wasn't tearing it back apart for free and it would be 400+ just to tear it apart. Also discovered they recorded odometer reading falsely so it seemed we drove 12000 miles since August. Impossible only drive twenty miles a day five days a week. So when I spoke Robert he told me that even though he owned both businesses under the same name that they are separate businesses and he couldn't have the work performed in Austin. Gary told me he wasn't ride he was just like the news man he tells it like it is. So we took it to Aamco Jose who is awesome! Burnet road location! Said that he hates put other companies down but that these people really were a piece of work. They totally failed to install the wiring harness and sensor and Robert stated that he would now be willing to do the job right after we already were the process of someone doing it right. He refused to pay for it even lief and said my nephew still owed them money starting there was no warranty. They were supposed call the balance which was 190 dollars even because someone stole his deck and cracked his dash while on the property. This according to Tim in round Rock who two occasions was drunk. So that torque control switch and wiring harness tells the torque converter to lock the engine and transmission at a certain speed preventing the transmission from burning up. Had we actually driven the car 12000 miles on three months the transmission would have burned up. Fortunately they did manage to do that part right. Oh and I forgot the part when they said they lost the bolts so we had to wait for them to order more. Terrible business. Terrible customer service. Corrupt thieves! read more
