Upon first entering my room I realized that there was no fridge, microwave, or coffee maker and it was quite cool in the room. I went downstairs to speak to the woman behind the counter...and she told me that the "regular rooms" do not come with a fridge or microwave, you have to book the "suite" for such luxuries...my fault I should have looked at the booking more closely I suppose. I proceeded to ask about the heat and she looked at me strangely and said "Oh yeah...we don't put the heat on yet, it's not cold enough to" mind you we had mid 40's for daytime highs and mid 30's for night time lows. But she gave me....blankets! The fun didn't end there. Upon coming back from a hike I went to our bathroom and noticed the floor was all wet. I then looked up and saw water pouring out of the fan vent. I called downstairs and told her. She was surprised and said she would send someone to look at it. They came and turns out the guy on the 3rd floor overflowed his toilet. They cleaned it up with towels and when I asked if they would disinfect our bathroom as well the manager said it was unnecessary because it was "clean toilet water from the tank" Nightmare fuel Not to mention the animal piss stained carpet and black mold in the bathroom. So basically- spend the extra money and stay somewhere nice.

We were worried about the flat-screen television precariously leaning at an angle over the armoire throughout our stay. We were booked for six days, but on the third night, our stay was cut short, on account of two bed bugs crawling across the mattress. Therefore, we checked out and stayed with my parents for the rest of the trip. The gentleman at the front desk who brought us the play pen was decent and sympathetic; he directed us to work with Expedia to get our refund. Though we didn't get reimbursed for the first three nights, we did get $201 back.

As I walked through the lobby and in the elevators I was taken aback by how outdated this place was. This was especially apparent in the elevator with the gaudy faux gold hand rails and the smelly outdated carpet. It felt 1980's for sure! The room was average at best. I did have lunch and dinner at their restaurants and was very disappointed except for one (I will drop reviews on those restaurants). I love the history. But it's not enough for me to pay top dollar for an average hotel room. I will not be coming back.

We booked this hotel because it was in walking distance to the Alaska Railroad terminal, where we…read morewere coming from after sailing on a long cruise that docked in Seward. It turns out that the two-block walk is up a steep hill, so we needed to wait about 15 minutes for a taxi because walking uphill with all our luggage was impossible. We ended up at the hotel at about 11pm and had an 8am flight the next morning, so all we wanted to do was get some sleep. We arrived at the hotel with a security guard standing by their luggage carts, watching us schlep our four rolling bags. He or nobody else offered to help. The check-in staff was efficient and friendly enough, recommending we take the far elevator because the closer one would involve steps. We walked the length of the hotel, about as long as the cruise ship, pushing a heavy luggage cart. The cart came within millimeters of hitting the smoke detectors on the low ceiling, an uncomfortable feeling like driving a minivan through a low parking garage. When we arrived at our room, we opened the door and there was somebody sleeping in it! More correctly, they were in the adjacent room and the connecting door between the two rooms was open. We closed the connecting door and found ourselves in a studio with a double sized murphy bed with a couch in front of it. We moved the couch, lowered the bed, found pillows on a shelf and tried to sleep. We ending up sleeping only about three hours. The air conditioning was very loud and we used towels from the bathroom as pillows because the pillows were far too thick to be comfortable. Now awake, we checked our reservation and saw that we had reserved a room with a king bed, not a double pullout bed. We called the front desk staff, who again was friendly enough, but there was no manager on duty so they said someone would call us back. We expect in the end we'll get back the points we used for this room as Hyatt Rewards members, but that's not going to make up for the very poor ending to an otherwise wonderful vacation.

A former hotel converted into a JdV property The Wildbirch Hotel is fine, but debatable if worth…read morethe price point. The best aspect of The Wildbirch is the location. The downtown spot puts many of Anchorage's best restaurants in walking distance. Loved that! Their on-site restaurant is also great. They have a super cute pricy gift shop as well with fun and unique items. Otherwise? Meh. The room we stayed in was aesthetically pleasing but not entirely functional or ready. The two beds left very little space between them or to their sides so often felt cramped. The bathroom door, a slider, had a useless lock that couldn't function due to the gap between the track and the frame. The water pressure left much to be desired and the bathroom itself was tiny. The room's condition was suspect upon check-in. The carpet between the beds was very damp and the smell of cleaner made me wonder if the carpet had been hastily cleaned. Which may have explained the splattered material on the bottom of the bathroom door which I could not determine what the splatter was. The room was not quiet. Frequent train whistles punctuated the night. The interaction with the front desk staff was unusual. They were quite evasive with every question. We inquired why the downstair entrance doors were always locked and were told there were characters nearby. We asked if there were safety concerns upon seeing the very attentive, actively patrolling visible security staff. We were told they were there primarily for the parking lot but I always saw them inside the building. The item that got me the most was their insistence we take an alternate route to our room instead of going up the elevator to our floor. No explanation, just insistence. Turns out there's four stairs leading down from our floor's elevator lobby to the hall. That isn't difficult to explain, and not difficult for us to manage. The hallway is very long when staying at the opposite end. The Wildbirch's interior, especially the lobby areas, are very fun and beautiful. For the price point, tho, I'm not sure I'd return with everything else.

Hyatt House Anchorage is a solid property for a trip to Anchorage. While not located near the…read moredowntown area, it is not so far removed that it is an inconvenience to drive downtown to walk around and eat. With plenty of parking on-site it made it very convenient as a base of operations. The hotel was clean, the rooms were comfortable, and the shower temperature and pressure was perfect. The pull-out bed was super uncomfortable but the couch was great. It is not necessarily a quiet location as drivers speed down the road at stupid speeds but so far haven't found a hotel in Anchorage that can avoid that. The little restaurant is nice in a pinch. They have the standard fare that other Hyatt Houses with this menu has. I don't know why but I really enjoy it even knowing it arrives frozen and is stuck in a microwave. But I find that pizza to be oddly comforting and a tendency to put me in a calm mental state - but that's a me thing. I don't expect others to understand. It was a great hotel for the stay. Solid. Dependable.

To be completely honest, I wasn't thrilled when my husband booked Hyatt House for our Alaska trip,…read moreand our arrival didn't help. The complimentary airport shuttle driver drove in total silence and ignored my greeting--a head nod or a quick recommendation about Anchorage would have gone a long way for a first impression. However, the second we walked into the lobby, the rest of the hotel staff completely changed our minds. The front desk team was incredible, allowing us to check in early and placing us on a high floor with a fantastic view that thrilled our kids. Throughout our stay, I was amazed by how hard this entire team works. Staff members were constantly cleaning, warmly greeting guests in the hallways, and accommodating every request with a smile. The breakfast crew in particular deserves major props: even when understaffed and facing impatient, demanding crowds, they handled the morning rush with grace, kindness, and patience. The setup is ideal for families--spacious rooms, immaculate cleanliness, and a central location that's just a quick drive to both the airport and downtown Anchorage. By the end of our stay, the genuine warmth of the staff made it hard to say goodbye. Pro Tip: Take advantage of their prime location for easy downtown access, and be sure to pack a little extra patience and kindness for the hardworking breakfast team in the mornings!

I had contacted Karen Harris, the owner of Alaska Garden Gate BnB, in December 2020 and secured our reservation for an extended stay. Karen informed me in late January 2021 that it was possible the property would sell during our reservation dates, but that she was doing everything she could to ensure current guests could stay as long as possible, and that future reservations were honored. We checked into the Cottonwood Cottage on Feb. 1st. 2021 with no problems. During our stay, we were given notice that both property appraisals and inspections were taking place and were asked for our patience and understanding. I had email Karen multiple times to clarify our reservation and status of the property's ownership. Karen again responded that the contract and sale had not been finalized and she would let me know. On the morning of February 10th, Karen called to informed me that we needed to vacate the property within 24 hrs due to the sale of the property. Karen stated that the new owners were not going to continue with a BnB business, and that they required all long-term tenants and short terms guests to leave immediately. We complied with the abrupt request and thankfully found alternative lodging the same day. However, we were subsequently charged extra nights through Feb 13th. While a refund was provided for those extra nights; based on Alaska Garden Gate BnB's February 19th Facebook post, they are actively taking reservations through March 16th. While Alaska Garden Gate BnB will no longer be an active business come March 16th, I would not recommend any individual to do current or future business with an owner and company who treats their guests with such blatant disrespect and deceit.

We checked before arriving in, on check-in timings and other details to make sure we get the keys and other things in case if we get delayed. Also, it came with shared kitchen with table, microwave and coffee maker. Dining hall was set up in a ballroom environment with round tables and chairs around it. Also, outdoor dining area is also available. Homemade breakfast is served: * hot oatmeal and blueberries with additional side toppings available - nuts, almonds, sugar, raisins and cranberries - loved it ! * egg omelette with potato stuffed - again loved it * muffins - not well cooked, felt like it was under baked and needs more cooking Other than that, regular store-bought bread with butter, jam was also served. The only complaint is in the morning there were too much noise as rooms are layed out next to each other with very little space which can be annoying if you decide to sleep in little more than others, we can hear people shouting and bathroom noise as well. We would totally come in here any time during our next Alaska trip and recommend it to others.
