    The Room

I only rated this three stars because I think that's what they are going for here. The room was about $140 per night and it delivered value at that level. The room was small, but I expected that. It was clean, the bathroom was compact but efficient, the bed was comfortable and the staff helpful and friendly. This little hotel is reasonably priced, clean and conveniently located. There aren't many amenities (there is a breakfast that I haven't tried yet) but it delivers on everything it promises. I'd stay again.

There is an entrance on each of the 4 sides. None were labeled to indicate the office. Only one has a ramp, and it's taped up to warn people of the damage. My wife is disabled, so she had a difficult time getting in the building. The steps on the other side are so worn and rounded they're a slipping hazard. All of the entrance steps are two-by lumber instead of concrete. The bathroom door wouldn't latch. It looked like someone had hollowed out way too much wood from the door frame. The continental breakfast was pretty slim. The biggest issue was that we had to use their INSTANT coffee. The other guests said to go next door to a coffee shack. We heard another guest complaining at the desk about the strong cigarette smell in her room. When she asked if they allow smoking, the clerk said no. No apology given, no adjustment on room rate.

My wife and I stayed here for a few days when her sister graduated from UAA. We chose the location because it was on Eagle River near her family, and because of the price. This is a very bare bones hotel (hence the term "microtel") the rooms are small and the free breakfast is meager, this is not an extended stay luxury place. Why 5 stars then? Because for the price, it's great. The rooms are clean, the bed is firm but comfortable, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We checked in in the middle of the night and the young man on duty was so perky and sweet, you'd never know it was 3am.If you are looking for luxury, spend the extra and stay at a resort, but if you're looking for a quiet cozy place to lay your head a few hours and brush your teeth between adventures, it does the job wonderfully.

Kind staff and very helpful although the accommodations were very basic. The best thing was the staff. The furniture was a bit old.

The only thing that bothered me was being able to hear the people in the room next door for all the days I stayed--the walls are paper thin.

The accommodations were absolutely wonderful--comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully designed. The staff truly made the experience unforgettable. Every single person we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was outstanding--delicious, fresh, and consistently impressive throughout our stay. And the valet service? Exceptional!! Seamless, efficient, and always delivered with a smile. This has officially become our NEW favorite place to stay when we're in Anchorage. We're already looking forward to our next visit. Highly, highly recommend! Rooms We had a room on the 16th floor... the views were mindblowing.. the room so comfortable absolute perfection. Nearby activities Centrally located, we were there for medical reasons and just 5 min. from the Drs. offices. Safety We felt perfectly safe the entire time and went for several walks to explore the city. Walkability Convenient to EVERYTHING! Perfect location! Food & drinks We ate at the Crow's Nest, Fletchers and grabbed coffee at the Cubby all were delightful and delicious! Noteworthy details Valet staff was outstanding in every way, always pleasant, remembered our faces, so professional, we didn't have to lift a finger, if we didn't want to. Next time we will make sure to hit the Spa! Hotel highlights Luxury, Great view, Romantic, Quiet, Great value

As I walked through the lobby and in the elevators I was taken aback by how outdated this place was. This was especially apparent in the elevator with the gaudy faux gold hand rails and the smelly outdated carpet. It felt 1980's for sure! The room was average at best. I did have lunch and dinner at their restaurants and was very disappointed except for one (I will drop reviews on those restaurants). I love the history. But it's not enough for me to pay top dollar for an average hotel room. I will not be coming back.

Rooms have blackout curtains which is helpful if you're visiting during the summer. The lobby has a small seating area with a fireplace near the hotel restaurant and coffee shop/gift shop. There is more seating available on the first floor. Staff is welcoming and responsive to any questions or concerns. The location is in close proximity to many great downtown restaurants and the coastal trail. If you have a car there is a parking lot in the back which costs $15 per day. I would definitely like to stay here again!

The staff is helpful and friendly and it's the "hippest" hotel by far in all of Anchorage IMO and I've stayed in MOST of the Hilton hotels in Anchorage and the Captain Cook. The only downside of the Wildbirch is the noise -- it can be a little noisy downtown if you select a room facing 4th street. I'm a light sleeper and it wasn't TOO bad, but it wasn't quiet. They give you earplugs to drown out the noise. The rooms are really exceptional with lots of dimming capabilities for the various lights, super nice touches, nice coffee features, super cool/ cute / clean bathroom, the bed is top notch with super nice linens. Nice little coffee shop and super cool looking bar/restaurant. Anchorage has come a long way! All in all, I would stay again, as the hotel options in Anchorage are not very good, nor have they ever been good. It would be nice to have a machine to make some white noise to drown out the cars on 4th street -- I would give this place 5 stars! Nice addition to the hotel scene in Anchorage! Great location, great staff, reasonable prices.

We were…read moremoving to Alaska from the lower 48, and needed a place to live while in the process of purchasing a house. I had contacted Karen Harris, the owner of Alaska Garden Gate BnB, in December 2020 and secured our reservation for an extended stay. Karen informed me in late January 2021 that it was possible the property would sell during our reservation dates, but that she was doing everything she could to ensure current guests could stay as long as possible, and that future reservations were honored. We checked into the Cottonwood Cottage on Feb. 1st. 2021 with no problems. During our stay, we were given notice that both property appraisals and inspections were taking place and were asked for our patience and understanding. I had email Karen multiple times to clarify our reservation and status of the property's ownership. Karen again responded that the contract and sale had not been finalized and she would let me know. On the morning of February 10th, Karen called to informed me that we needed to vacate the property within 24 hrs due to the sale of the property. Karen stated that the new owners were not going to continue with a BnB business, and that they required all long-term tenants and short terms guests to leave immediately. We complied with the abrupt request and thankfully found alternative lodging the same day. However, we were subsequently charged extra nights through Feb 13th. While a refund was provided for those extra nights; based on Alaska Garden Gate BnB's February 19th Facebook post, they are actively taking reservations through March 16th. While Alaska Garden Gate BnB will no longer be an active business come March 16th, I would not recommend any individual to do current or future business with an owner and company who treats their guests with such blatant disrespect and deceit.

We checked before arriving in, on check-in timings and other details to make sure we get the keys and other things in case if we get delayed. We took room for 4 people, so it came with double bunk beds with one bottom queen with rest single beds. Room was decent side with modern bathroom in an apartment style. Also, it came with shared kitchen with table, microwave and coffee maker. Dining hall was set up in a ballroom environment with round tables and chairs around it. Also, outdoor dining area is also available. Homemade breakfast is served: * hot oatmeal and blueberries with additional side toppings available - nuts, almonds, sugar, raisins and cranberries - loved it ! * egg omelette with potato stuffed - again loved it * muffins - not well cooked, felt like it was under baked and needs more cooking Other than that, regular store-bought bread with butter, jam was also served. The only complaint is in the morning there were too much noise as rooms are layed out next to each other with very little space which can be annoying if you decide to sleep in little more than others, we can hear people shouting and bathroom noise as well. We would totally come in here any time during our next Alaska trip and recommend it to others.
