Fantastic hotel with comfortable beds and fantastic amenities! After a few weeks on the Alcan, this was a nice stop to relax and do laundry. There's a nice microwave, fridge, and coffee in the room with a nice high top bar area to sit and work/eat/read. Check in was great with Amelia who was super efficient and helpful. There are complimentary snacks (cookies and La Croix) and it's a dog friendly place with beautiful trails nearby for doggy sniffs. read more

The staff were helpful and friendly, and the room was clean. The hot water was plentiful and hand towels were folded in a pretty pattern. Unfortunately, the room and amenities were not great. The air was stuffy and did not smell fresh. I did not like the laundry detergent, and noticed that each time I moved my head on the pillow. The room was quite small, with a single chair and no desk. We were disappointed that the bed, posted and charged as queen-size, was instead a double or perhaps full. It was notably smaller than queen, and we were queen-sized. read more

check in was seamless, only took a few seconds. the room (double queen, pet friendly) was very clean. We had our German shepherd with us so we got a pet friendly room. Waking into the room you wouldn't know that other animals had stayed there. The room was surprisingly big, plenty of room for the two of us and the 115 lb dog. Nice rooms. Super clean and comfy! Check in was very pleasant. We were lucky to grab one of these rooms on a very busy weekend. Wish there were more motels like this one. It had everything we needed, microwave, refrigerator and a separate sink near them both. The only complaint we had was the super noisy exhaust fan in the bathroom which went on with the light. One of the worst motels I've ever been in. The room looks nice I photos until you step into it and realize there is a funk of old building and the floor creeks with every step. Also the walls a super thin. I can hear my neighbors talking and follow their conversation. There is a small "kitchenette" if you count a mini fridge and microwave a kitchenette. While those things are there a few important things aren't. Silverware, bowls or plates. Also there is not table or desk anywhere in the room. Literally no place to sit other than the bed. Also let's talk WiFi. Now I know your gonna say all hotel WiFi is trash. Well this place takes the cake. I can't even watch a YouTube video in 144p! Now normally I'd just pair to my phone and forget about it but this place is in a dead spot so barely any signal. If I didn't have to be here for a work training course I would have loaded up and drove 4hrs back home the second I opened the door. read more

Came in late before our rental property was open. Stayed one night but was pleasantly surprised at how cozy, spotlessly clean and friendly the place is. They have done a great job updating the rooms. Smells pleasant inside, safe locking doors, fully stocked bathroom, beautifully embroidered towels add a nice touch. The mattress was firm and comfortable with ample pillows that were just right! Didn't get a chance to use the kitchenette but looks great for longer stays. Within walking distance of town shops, coffee, and restaurants. I would absolutely recommend this motel over the others in town. Friendly and attentive staff, great pricing, full cable!! Must stop here if you're visiting Palmer. read more

Can't recommend this motel enough. Alaska is expensive during the summer and we were visiting during the july 4th long weekend, but this place was so very reasonable. Cosy little rooms, spotlessly clean and a great host. The owner had a bbq going and invited all the motel guests to join in. And she was a plethora of information, she took time to guide us to the best of restaurants and scenic points. If i am visiting palmer again will definitely come back to stay here. read more

May not look like much on the outside but... Large clean rooms well appointed, well maintained with GREAT manager. Flat screen TV, plush towels, microwave, coffee maker and Better than average hotel refrigerator with separate freezer. :) Kitchen area has stainless sink and sign says free on request: large coffee pots toasters, griddles, crock pots, George Forman Grills, Waffle makers etc. :) :) They do have a cleaning fee for these items if guest does not clean them . This motel was a pleasant surprise. It was worth the price we paid of $115 compared to other places we stayed while in Alaska. Clean and updated. The kitchenette was a very nice perk. The bathroom looks like it was the only part not updated but it was still in good shape with real tile around the shower/tub. Bed was very comfortable. The only complaint would be the paper thin walls. We could hear traffic and conversations from the rooms on each side of ours. With that said, we would stay here again just because it was so clean and inviting. read more

This is a great motel with wonderful owners! The room was newly remodeled, spotless and super cute. It also had a little kitchenette and was super comfy. We were here on 4th of July weekend and the owners had a quaint gathering for all of their guests. It was fun to chat with other travelers as well as some locals. And, when we were done mingling, it was nice and quiet in our room. If I'm ever back in Palmer, I will definitely stay here again! read more

Stopped over this little town on my way from anchorage to Matanuska glacier. Super cute and clean room. Far beyond my expectation. My checkin was smooth and easy. The guy is very friendly. I'll highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a place on their way. The lodges in the Matanuska glacier area very limited and quickly sold out (I called all of them). Glad that I'm spending the night in this motel. The restaurants are within 3-5 min drive. read more

A woman checked In and paid for one month, a week later she was told to leave or the cops would be called because she was filthy and ruined the bed. The woman is going through menopause and after a year of nothing, got her menses in the middle of the night. She stripped the bed and offered to go purchase new sheets and was told by whomever was at the desk that it was fine and happens all the time. The next morning is when she was asked to leave and pay $300 dollars for sheets. Upon inspection of the bed their was nothing on the mattress and it was covered with a plastic cover. The woman even wrote a note apologizing for the sheets and left a $20 tip. However she was told there was no maid service but the $20 was still taken. Please keep in mind this is second hand information and I am interested to hear the motels side of the story; the way it seems, this woman was shamed for her body taking part in a natural process that is uncontrollable. read more

NEVER AGAIN! Dirty toilet seat/bathroom-bleach stained carpets-paper thin walls and an irrational, bullying, shady manager. The motel receipt states no smoking in rooms or on adjacent sidewalks, & a picnic table is set up with ashtrays across the parking lot. On our 2nd day, the manager, Val, flipped out on us-3 women in our 60s-because 2 of us lit our cigarettes in the middle of the parking lot and not at the picnic table,where Val was sitting, shouting and struggling to keep her unruly,unleashed, large dog from jumping up on the 3rd member of our group,who was standing by the picnic table, as most seats were occupied by a few motel staff, including the manager, on their break. Amidst the loud commotion,the ladies were afraid of the dog and, as the motel staff took up most of the seats at the table, they lit up about 5 meters from the table in the middle of the parking lot. One of the ladies was on her phone, talking to her 80 year old mother back in Canada. We assumed the manager, Val, was screaming at her dog, as that is how one would shout at a dog and not a paying motel guest.The woman on the phone even waved back at Val, not realizing she was being screamed at. This resulted in Val jumping up, seemingly infuriated, and lunging toward my friend, screaming something about smoking at the picnic table and accusing my friend of ignoring her, even as my friend tried to end her phone conversation, as her mother was becoming concerned, and was asking what was all the shouting about. After we apologized,while trying to explain we were afraid of the dog,and were not smoking on the sidewalk or in the room, and that the picnic table was quite full, Val continued to loudly berate us in front of her staff and other guests, and would not allow us to speak. We retreated to our room,and shortly thereafter,Val banged on our door,flapping two 2 papers - our receipt and a sheet of paper explaining the smoking rules, which are ambiguous and contradictory. The receipt states no smoking in rooms or on adjacent sidewalks,while the other paper states smoking allowed "at the picnic table area", which is not clearly defined.How big is the 'area'? We were at least 9 meters from the sidewalk,in the middle of the parking lot,and perhaps 5 meters from the table. Val stood in the doorway of our room,yelling at us that we had been 'fined' $100 because, now, (in the short time between her screaming at us outside and then) she said, someone complained about us smoking in the night outside the room, which did not happen.She claimed she had to refund their room (unlikely). Val was completely unhinged by now and would not let us get a word in to explain that one of us had been busy on her cellphone talking to her 80 year old mother and did not realize lighting a cig in the middle of the parking lot was such an egregious offense. Val then THREATENED TO CALL THE POLICE to evict us if we argued with her so we let her blow off her steam and finally she left after demanding advance payment for the next two nights. The housekeeper even attested she had seen us smoking only at the table. We were utterly astounded by what had transpired. We were 1000 km from home in a foreign country, in an area with no vacancies during the State Fair, and she knew it, so we had to stay. After a conversation, the next day, with her housekeeper (which was immediately relayed to the mgr), at the picnic table, regarding our displeasure at being extorted $100 for no valid reason, and stating we had seen and photographed another guest smoking right outside his room, Val again banged on our door to boast about 'fining' 6 other guests $100 for smoking. So, in one night this manager extorted $100 each from almost half the guests of this 19-rm motel. While we were there two housekeepers quit-one of them her own son. The receipt states a 'cleaning fee' will be charged for smoking in the room or on the sidewalk. What got cleaned after we lit up in the middle of the parking lot on our way to the table, which we were avoiding because of the commotion with her big dog? As Canadians, we do not ever throw our cigarette butts on the ground - they go back in the package or in a pocket if there is no receptacle. By far, the most bizarre place we have ever stayed. Val is a big woman with a loud voice and we were all afraid as she stood in our doorway and literally screamed at us for five minutes. Threatening to call the police was the most surprising thing of all, and not what we expected when we made the mistake of booking this motel. We will not be back, and neither will anyone we know. I can assure you there are now at least 7 people (and all their friends and family) who will not return to the Pioneer Motel. We did nothing wrong and have no idea why this woman can arbitrarily extort $700 from paying guests in one night in 'fines',in a town where there are no vacancies due to the state fair. Thanks Valerie for a wonderful stay!!! Here are the details of my stay at the Pioneer Motel in Palmer AK. My group arrived there about 10 PM. It was a long trip for all of us. The room was very nice and clean, extra towels were supplied (even for the mini kitchen that we enjoyed using). The room was very quiet and we appreciated the good night of sleep we always got. The hotel is conveniently located near major shopping facilities and dining opportunities. Valerie treated us and others as if we were her friends. Our stay was for 12 nights and we enjoyed the care the motel staff took to make sure we were comfortable. When you travel for work, your hope is that you can get some needed rest in a quiet room. The Pioneer Motel made sure we had that positive experience. Every morning I would take a long walk and the motel manager would share with me the best routes to take for the chance to see some Alaska wildlife. We found the people of Alaska were very friendly to us and Valerie's Pioneer Motel and Staff were the best. Hope to visit many times again in the future. Thanks! read more
