Weekends often offer live music and there is a perfect variety of food and drink options. Winter offers a warm stove and cozy environment whether wrapping up your day or a side trip up the mountain for some winter viewing and relaxation. The music is fun. The drinks are fun (did someone say Denali Blueberry Mojito?). They are proud of their mediocre food and it's always hard to find a seat but what a spectacular view from the lodge. The overnight cabin-goers are lucky. read more

My friends and I came to listen to the live music, and ended up staying for hours. We enjoyed canned ale, hot tea and playing uno, while the customers enjoyed the band. The lodge offers food and initially we planned to get pie. Free water was available ( self serve). The lodge sells drinks and food, which you order at the counter and take to open seats once ready. It was a pretty positive way to enjoy an afternoon . We arrived after lunch and others were enjoying nachos and desserts, but my group was full from a ho hum meal. So drinks were perfect, followed by hot tea. The lodge has a large patio outside, but being from Tucson it was chilly outside so I didn't hang outdoors. Some of the patrons staying in a cabin we could see at a distance in a sauna then cold plunge. More power to them. The mountain views were spectacular. We had a great time. The seating is a bit random mishmash of tables and chairs. My group of four shared seating at a picnic table and benches, while others were at tables and chairs. Friendly service. read more

It seems like there are new owners here who think it's acceptable to yell at blueberry pickers. I witnessed one of the new "owners" being extremely rude to a woman who was there with her kids--telling her she was on private property. But how are people supposed to know that? As the woman pointed out, there were no signs posted anywhere, so it was genuinely confusing. The whole situation was handled very poorly and with zero courtesy. It really ruined my day, and based on what I saw, I can't recommend this place anymore. I won't be coming back. read more

Breathtaking views , nice lofted cabin. Had a compostable toilet in a small bathroom like room. No running water, had nice heater built in, water in a small cooler with cups. Towels provided for the bigger building with showers. read more

Great location to be away from "the city" but still be close enough to stores and businesses in case you need something. Everything is pretty painless will booking (booked 5 months out just in case). You're contacted via email with directions to cabins and how to get in. Once you're in you will be delighted with this cute cabin! We had cabin for and it was perfect for 4. Cute loft on top with a full and twin beds, queen bed in the fr room downstairs. We came to see the lights and while we didn't see it at the cabin we were close to the mountain to drive up. Of course the lights were out dancing in Wasilla while we hunted up the big mountain! We also came straight to the cabins from Happy Trails Kennel/ Alaska Mushing School. We went on a bomb dog sled ride with a knowledgeable Itidarod finisher! The owner of the place is a 4 time Itidarod winner. They not on Yelp so here's my review! Lol if you're checking out the cabins then you gotta go lights hunting AND take a dog sled ride at the Happy Trail Kennels! You will be making forever memories with your loved ones or maybe just by yourself is good too! read more

Nice place, only really looked around as I was just up for the day to drive through the pass and do a little hiking. The lodge looks nice from the outside and I look to checking out the lodge and stay in the cabins the next time I visit Alaska. Stayed one night at Hatcher Pass Lodge recently. We knew we were in for a rustic stay, since we already knew the cabins didn't have running water, but were excited to take in the views and enjoy some nature. Who I assume to be the owner, Hap, was very friendly as we checked in. The cabin had an amazing view down the valley, just beautiful. The cabins were definitely rustic, not too fancy, not super super clean, but definitely what we expected. The cabin itself did not have running water but there were bathrooms and a shower in the main lodge. We played around in the snow with our dog. There happened to be about 6ft of snow while we were there, and more coming down. We went to the lodge restaurant for a drink before dinner and were very disappointed. The woman who served us must not have had any experience mixing drinks. We ordered two drinks - a rum and coke, and a vodka with fruit juices (was on their menu of "special" drinks). The rum and coke came out in pint sized glass, with an entire can of coke in it and about 1oz of rum (same with the vodka drink). Long story short, upon ordering more rum and cokes, the woman working there decided we were "cut off" after just three drinks...each with less than a shot in them. Frustrated, we ordered dinner there anyway since hadn't brought food with us. The food was okay. It was overpriced but as the lodge is a distance from town, that was understandable. Portions weren't huge but we left full. Bottom line: great place to stay if you want to explore the Hatcher Pass area and don't need any ammenities, but restaurant is so-so. We have heard it's better for dessert. read more

Cute little lodge located in the gorgeous, picturesque Talkeetna Mountains offering private cabins and meals. We came here with friends for a light lunch before our hike in Hatcher Pass. Their menu is a little limited and pricey for what they offer, but is still a nice place to just sit back and soak in the amazing alpine views. It was a bit chilly and rainy when we were there last week, but I can only imagine how beautiful the mountain peaks would be in the Winter completely covered in fresh, white snow. read more

I you are going to Hatcher's pass, you must stop by here for a slice of pie. It's an adorable little cafe and lodge. I didn't stay here, but just ate at the cafe. I ordered the razzleberry pie with some ginger lemon tea. They serve the pie warm and a la mode if you want. I just had plain pie. It was so perfectly made. Just simple wholesome ingredients. Yes, this is not a 5 star restaurant, however it's probably the only place within 15 miles that serves food. That being said, the menu is basic and a bit pricey (remember, this is a remote area). You cant compare it to any chain restaurant, suffice to say the basic sandwiches, soups, and desserts are the order of the day. You are probably gonna be here to recharge after the activities in the area and to view some of the most incredible scenery. One weird thing... When we were here, they were playing jamacian/Caribbean music... Hatcher Pass Lodge and their surrounding cabins is an amazing place to stay and experience the high Alaskan Alpine. Hap and his staff were very welcoming and made us feel at home throughout our stay. We were even allowed to select the perfect cabins for our group upon arrival! Everyone made us feel like old friends while we shared mountain stories at the lodge during breakfast and dinner. It's location provided immediate access to a number of high alpine hiking trails with amazing views! The cabins are outfitted with everything you need for sleeping and playing card games. They also offered the use of their kitchen in case we brought our own food but we took advantage of their menu and treated ourselves to their home cooking. I would highly recommend this to anybody looking for a quick getaway near Anchorage and other places nearby. read more

I love coming up to this area because it's so close to Anchorage, yet feels like a world away. Just the drive up requires winding along the Little Su River and up into the Talkeetna Mountains. If you're going to Indepence Mine, I would suggest stopping here for a bite to eat. The menu for dinner entrees is pricey, but they do have decently priced sandwiches and wines. I shared the fondue, which was amazing! It's $24, but will be enough food for 2 people, so that's a deal in my book. The snow-covered mountains were scenic and serene, with snowboard tracks at the tops. Can't wait to come back for some summer hiking and eating! read more

Yes, the location of Hatcher Pass Lodge is exquisite. But it's time for "lodgers" to come prepared to boycott the restaurant. It has become so exploitative that it's insulting. Shredded salmon (& not much of it) on a bagel with a bit of cream cheese and a few pieces of diced onion - $19.95. Supposed to come with home-made potato salad - ooops, we're out. Any adjustment to the price when they're out of things (which is not an infrequent event)? Keep dreaming. They deserve to lose business and, by the way, for the benefit of non-Alaskans, Hatcher Pass Lodge is NOT remote in the sense that bringing in and storing regular-priced food is a problem. The Lodge is less than 1/2 hr. from Wasilla, which is very much a city with fully stocked, large grocery stores where food is available at regular prices. The Lodge also shouldn't underestimate local clientele who over the years have enjoyed bringing guests there for day-trips, to enjoy the views and what used to be SLIGHTLY over-priced fresh food at reasonable portions. Now their attitude is complacent and exploitative. i have never written a bad review until now. But it was hard to believe they could deliver our bill without embarrassment. Speaks volumes. There are many exquisite landscapes and rustic lodges in Alaska. Patronize them instead. read more

I wish I could live here! The cabin was beautiful, close to all things Palmer. Breakfast is in the refrigerator- it's so nice not having to worry about that! The beds are comfortable and Liz was there to help with everything, answer questions and give good advice. There's a little market right across the street if you need snacks or sodas and the market has a laundromat (and ice cream). It's out of the way so there's no sounds of traffic and you're able to enjoy nature! We will definitely be coming back!! read more

My parents, aunt, and I were at a table 5-10 min. before the guy came over to us and asked if we had been helped. We told him our order and it took awhile to get to us. The landscape is beautiful and the mine is extraordinary, but Hatcher Pass Lodge is not. There is no running water in the bathroom and the smell of the portapotty is awful. It's too bad the cabins aren't better looking, I think it could be a nice place to stay. Unfortunately, we didn't stay the night and lost 150 dollars. read more

The restaurant allows three dogs and one cat to roam around a place which serves food. This causes hair from the animals to get into the food you are trying to eat. The cat climbs all over the tables and chairs and the dogs run under your feet which can cause a person to fall. After telling the owners about this problem, they informed me that this is a dog friendly restaurant which if it is, they should post a sign out front so people know going in what to except. Just go stay here! You will love the location and the beauty of the landscape surrounding you. There is a cozy lodge where you can get a good meal. It was a great place to stay for a night on our Alaska road trip. We stayed in cabin #5 which was freshly painted with new carpet and linens.
