The room decor is really unusual and cool. The views on the balcony are very nice, right over the lake! Parking is easy too. But, the room wasn't the cleanest, and there was low water pressure in the shower. The towels were dirty too! The shampoo and conditioner was half used in the bottle already too. We stayed here as part of an organized tour in late July, so we didn't have a choice of accomodations. I was really happy with this choice! The room was spacious and even had a little kitchenette area. Oh and there was a little balcony too with 2 chairs that you could sit and enjoy the view of the little lake. The bed was comfy. The blinds didn't keep out ALL the light but did a pretty good job. I had a sleep mask. The WiFi worked well, no problems. The staff was friendly. Note, there's no elevator so if you are on the 2nd floor you need to haul your luggage up the stairs. The property has a restaurant (Everett's) which has several areas to it... a finer dining section (indoors) with white table cloths, and indoor bar area and an outdoor patio overlooking the lake. The restaurant is not open for breakfast. It also looks like the property has an event space that also looks out towards the lake. I would definitely stay here again if we were in the area on our own. read more

Had an impromptu "staycation" with my husband and came to Matsu Resort. Gorgeous room! What a gem to have in the valley. Our back door opened right up to the lake and the kitchenette is a plus. We'll be back, whenever we need an escape from our teenagers! read more

Working man's dining, good solid meals at a good price, my recommended stop in Wasilla!

The wife and I made reservations for our wedding anniversary to dine at Everetts in the Mat-Su Resort and we're terribly disappointed. We and another couple arrive and observed an large outdoor party going on at the resort. So we were glad we had made reservations. It turned out that it took 30 min to even get water to our table, which we got after chasing down a busboy. Then we attempted to order wine and drinks before dinner and couldn't get a waitress. Then we went to hostess and she finally got a waitress to the table who said it would be a long time before dinner would be served, because of the large party going on outside. At this point in time we got on the phone and called Settlers Bay Resort and went over their for dinner. It was incredible and delicious meal. Who ever is running Mat-Su Resort should be fired and they need help in the worst kind of way...... I have dined in the Valley for over 50 years and eaten at the resort in the past, but will not set foot back into this place until I know they have new management...... read more

Only reason I gave this place 1 star is because they didn't offer zero stars! Ordered the short ribs for dinner tonight. Got a tiny piece of meat and a glob of fat that would fill a beer glass. Owner wouldn't even address the issue as he walked around and spoke to every table but ours because he knew we were dissatisfied with our dinner. I feel sorry for the waitress that the owner left alone to deal with a upset customer as he walked by with zero acknowledgement to us. We did however get offered a free dessert , lol, $94.00 dinner right into the trash!! Where it belonged. read more

Our son got married at the resort last weekend. It was absolutely wonderful. Tammy, the event coordinator, did an outstanding job and went above and beyond to ensure the wedding was everything we hoped for. The food was amazing and the staff were terrific. I read the review from 2008, so I can say that this place has changed for the better. Last year it had new owners, and this year new owners again. The good news is these new owners are actually committed to making the resort work. It's an older place on the lake, but well kept. I go on the weekends for the vintage snow machine races. They have great burgers, but the bacon burger is awesome. Nice appetizers, pretty good for a bar. The biggest surprise is the waitresses. They get the job done. Try being the only waitress when over 100 people come in from the races. My only problem was that here was no one to take care of a problem in the ladies room. Other than that, in the light of day, this place is great. Nice views, look great for big functions too. I haven't been here at night, so maybe someone else can give the 411 on that. read more

I would LOVE to go to this establishment for drinks and dinner on the deck overlooking the lake....IF they are under new management????? WOW. Terrible. I met my husband and some friends there recently for dinner and drinks and it was BEAUTIFUL out. Perfect location for a relaxing evening overlooking the lake. The service? WHAT SERVICE????? I ordered a drink when I got there and it took them 20 minutes to tell me that they didn't have it. So i ordered a beer. The food came before the beer. I asked for catchup for the fries (they never brought it) the burger wasn't that great. When I finally got my beer, it was flat. A friend ordered the wings and asked for napkins......the napkins came after we were done eating and ready to pay and get the heck out. Seriously will NOT go back unless under new management. read more

Stayed for business and really enjoyed it. Rooms were nice and very comfortable though lacking a desk, and WiFi was very weak and dropped out the last day. Hope to have the opportunity to stay again in the summer. read more

A few friends and I went out to Wasilla for a Girl's Night Out and someone had suggested we visit the Mat-Su resort as they are the hot "night spot". We got there at about 10:30pm on Friday night. The entire parking area was packed. When we got into the bar area, it was a $5 cover charge. The upper level has a dance floor and stage that has mostly hard rock bands. There is a full bar as well with a pool table and a deck to the outside that overlooks the Wasilla Lake. This bar is a SMOKING bar currently and the ventilation is poor, so the door to the deck was open pretty often, causing a chill but allowing some fresh air in. There were mostly twenty and thirty-somethings. It looked like most people were having a good time. There is a staircase that leads down into a seperate bar area that plays Rap & R&B. We went down there around 11pm because the upstairs area seemed to fizzle. It turned out most people went down to the lower bar to dance. Forgive me, Valley people when I say, THERE ARE SOME SERIOUS FREAKS that were out that night. I am pretty sure half the women there had half of their teeth left. There were some people who looked to be high on something other then Alcohol. The DJ was crude. He cussed through the whole night, called the patrons nasty names. People were on the dancefloor with cigarettes and their drinks. A few drinks were spilled and some of the people were out dancing with no shoes on. Two people were kicked out for being high on something. And we got to witness two bar fights. It was an interesting night. It was one of the oddest nights I've had out, but a bit on the humorous side. I'm wondering if there is a reason why Wasilla is called the Meth Capitol of Alaska. Hmmmm.... read more
