Beware when booking at this lodge and how they handle cancellations. We booked a room at the Alaska Glacier Lodge because we wanted to do dogsledding and they offered a package for a room and credit for a heli tour. The main attraction was that the helicopter tour was owned and operated on the property so you don't have to go anywhere. We got a call 3 hours before departure that due to wind, the helicopter tour was canceled. We were made to understand that the lodge and tour are operated by the same company and would expect to be protected from being completely ripped off by the hotel. We were being reimbursed for the helicopter tour but not for our room. I understand weather can't be controlled but now we don't have a reason to stay at this hotel. With that being all we were there to do, and there was nothing else TO DO, there was no point for us to be there. The manager Liz was not sympathetic to this last minute cancelation and refused to give us a refund. We weren't going to waste one of our last days in Alaska so we decided not to unpack our car and drove to Girdwood where I luckily found another company that was offering dogsledding helicopter tours. Hopefully they can come to a better understanding that most people are staying at this lodge for their helicopter tours, as it is the only thing in the area to do. read more

Phenomenal rooms and what a view! It's really the perfect place and the staff is so accommodating and friendly. The rooms are spacious, adorable, spotless, and have plenty of amenities. Gorgeous property. the rooms are wonderful and unique. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It does make me feel a little concerned that there's no way to contact the front desk (because there's no one that stays overnight) after hours, but as it is a unique property perhaps that's just something I'm not used to. Definitely going back!! My husband and myself planned an Alaskan vacation for my 30th birthday. After finding the Knik River Lodge while doing research, it definitely exceeded our expectations! It's located in the most perfect isolated location near Palmer, AK. Only an hour from Anchorage, AK and 25 minutes from Palmer, AK. Giving you that Alaskan feel of a log cabin and camping in the middle of no where. Cabins were very clean, and the attention to detail is definitely there! You have more pillows then you know what to do with, it's warm, and a very cozy feel. You will feel at home here!! The Restaurant at the Yurt is amazing. The overall experience is great and the food was delicious! They have a fixed menu but being a somewhat picky eater, I found plenty to eat! The service was outstanding! We had Arthur our first night and he made the whole dinner an amazing experience overall. His attention to detail while serving was great! Both my husband and I come from a restaurant background and we always appreciate an outstanding dinner experience. Thank you for that Arthur!! :) Helicopter Tour- although we didn't get to do the dog sled tour due to weather, we still decided to go on a helicopter tour. Our guide Jarius (I believe that's how you spell his name) was excellent! He took us for a customized helicopter tour and landed us on a glacier! Something we both will never forget!! It was one of the highlights of my trip for sure! Jarius also pushed me to explore a little more than I would have normally done on my own on the glacier. Which I appreciated because I would have probably stayed on the helicopter if it was left up to me and missed all the beautiful sights! Great experience, thank you Jarius!! The staff at the Knik River Lodge are some of the nicest people we have met. They were always willing to give us ideas of things to do and were extremely helpful. Never being to Alaska, we had a ton of questions and they answered every single one. We definitely appreciate all the help to make our trip a success! MOOSE- never seeing a real moose in my life, this was one of the things I was most excited about! Knik River Lodge does not disappoint when it comes to moose sightings! You just need to step outside onto your porch and look around! Overall, my husband and I are planning on visiting the Knik River Lodge again next time we visit Alaska. Spent a week in Alaska and this is definitely the highlight of our trip. We cannot stopped talking about the glacier landing helicopter ride, the surprisingly king size comfy bed with losta pillows, and waking up the the breathtaking mountain views from the cozy little cabins. The only con that I can think of is that they do not have a menu for the food they are serving and no prices indicated. There were four of us altogether with each of us having a soup, entree, and a dessert totalling up to $140 not including tips. If we were to change anything, wr would order 3 sets and share, plenty of leftover food. read more

The view is everything here. If you want that instagram worthy picture or show off our great state to your boring friends then here's the place. The drive there is amazing with musicale scenic pull offs; about 12 miles off the Old Glenn and is worth the drive. I've never stayed in the cabins but I've seen the inside and they're beautiful. The restaurant is great! Nothing fancy but the food is a decent price and tastes great. They always have some IPA or beer on tap that's great. Overall, it's a great trip out there and worth the money. read more

What an amazing experience! We took the helicopter ride with a glacier landing so this review is for that tour. I cannot speak about the lodge itself as we didn't stay there; however, the owners are very nice, and from what we could see, it would be a beautiful place to stay. Anyway, the helicopter ride was stunning!! The glaciers were beautiful to see even though there was a bit of fog and our pilot was friendly and knowledgable. Stepping out onto the glacier was also unreal and the ride itself was exciting. I am betting you could take this flight 50 times and each time it would be new and different depending on the time of day, season, or weather, and each time it would be worth it! It's THAT good! I hope to go back again in the summer for a totally new experience. BTW - some tips: the owners are very accommodating! I planned this experience completely last minute and over email! Plus, we arrived an hour early (before the lodge had even opened - oops!) and they did not get flustered. Also, if you map directions to the lodge from Anchorage, it says it takes almost 2 hours, but as their site states it only takes an hour (hence our early arrival!). read more

Loved the accommodations. Clean, quiet, cozy cabins with out of this world view. So glad we stayed here, will be coming back. The Ravens Perch Restaurant was another story. The "savory bites" they served us because they were behind were something I swear I have bought at Costco. Seafood Medley was dull and the grilled cheese I make at home was 100 times better than theirs. So unless they get a new chef and new menu, by all means stay here but don't waste your money eating here. read more

I dont usually write Yelp reviews, but feel like I have to.. In response to a previous review, I was trying to check in while another guest was screaming, and quite honestly being an a**, to Lars about the cabins not having wifi (if you read the previous review). Lars was as calm and collected as anyone could be in this situation, especially when a guest was screaming in their face about something as simple as Wifi. Honestly, why come to a beautiful place like this, if all you want to do is have wifi and be on social medial. Side note: there IS WIFI AVAILABLE AT THE MAIN LODGE/RESTAURANT if you need it. But l, come to this place to enjoy nature, the wildlife, the views, good food, and the company. Everyone here is awesome; Lars, Eric, Conor, Sami, Summer, Kaylee, and others make this place worth the visit whether it's for an overnight stay or just for dinner. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, RECOMMEND KNIK RIVER LODGE!!! PLEASE DON'T LET THAT NEGATIVE REVIEW SWAY YOUR DECISIONS OR CHANGE YOUR MIND to get the chance to stay in a gem like this. This lodge was the start of our Alaskan vacation. We loved the experience. The location is fantastic, with good hiking opportunities within a few minutes of driving distance, and some straight from the property. The cabins are new, charming, and comfortable. The experience is very intimate, relaxing, and plain beautiful. The general manager is very attentive and welcoming. We stayed for two nights and would have gladly stayed longer. The restaurant is very good. They are still ironing out some logistics and staff training... but very minor items that didn't detract from the experience at all. We decided to do a helicopter tour with a glacier landing on a whim. It was a good experience, but it didn't compare to glacier hikes we did in other places - it was very short and for us felt overpriced for the duration. Had we spend a couple of hours on the ice instead of 20 min or so, our opinion of the tour would have been far higher. But the service was top notch on all accounts. If or when we go back to Alaska, I think we are going to start it at the Knik River Lodge again. It's good enough to repeat. I understand it has gone through quite a transformation in the last two years, and there are plans to continue improving it. I can't wait to see what it becomes in another year. read more

We had reservations a week in advance when we ordered they were out of just about everything including beer and wine. The place is pricey and the proportions of food were very small. Such an AMAZING experience and adventure! I did the helicopter and dog sled tour and it was probably the greatest and coolest experience of my life. The environment, views, staff, dogs, pilot, and mushers are what made everything seem so perfect and fantastic! Everyone I spoke to was extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Well, finding nice lodging in Alaska under $200 a night is a challenge. So when we arrived at the Knik Lodge, we were ecstatic! Cute, comfortable, stylish cabins. Clean modern bathrooms. Consistent internet connection (so hard to find in Alaska). Delicious gourmet dinner (I had the halibut, hubby had the salmon - both perfectly prepared and beautifully presented). Incredible views. Peaceful surroundings. And to top it off - a helicopter for your flight-seeing convenience!!! So James Bond!. The hosts are wonderful. And finally, the room rate is a bargain for all that you get! They are also in the Alaska Toursaver book. So if you need a place near Anchorage while you are on your amazing Alaska roadtrip - THIS IS THE PLACE!!! This is a review of the Raven's Perch. We drove up for a Sunday lunch. A beautiful drive and paved all the way. We were seated immediately, given menus and said we could pick a spot outside. I thought for the price of food it would have been appropriate for waiter to take us out and get us seated, he did not, especially since there were only two other tables filled in the whole place. We found a table and was shortly greeted by the waiter but not asked if we'd like a drink, so I asked what they had, he seemed a bit confused then realized there wasn't a drink menu on the table. We ordered a glass of wine and ice tea. It came shortly. Wine, the typical pour of 5 oz. come on, a couple more ounces and I may have had a second of the $10 glass of wine. We gave our order, a salad with chicken added and a burger and fries. The waiter came back maybe 10 minutes later and asked if we were ready to order. We told him we already ordered, he again seemed a tad confused, mind you, there were 3 tables including us. We enjoyed the scenery and watched the helicopters coming and going. We were brought water. Our food came. And it was just OK, nothing special. The salad was all a leaf lettuce mix, fresh but some Romain mixed in would have made the salad have more body. Had a bit of cucumber, a couple/three halved cherry tomatoes and red onion with a sliced grilled chicken breast on top, which seemed like it had been grilled several hours prior. Dressing was a creamy type but very watery, it needed to be thicker so it would cling to the lettuce and not run off while trying to eat it. The burger was good but the fries were made from fresh potatoes and WAY over cooked to where they where dark and tough on outside and almost mush on the inside. A very strange consistency for fries. Chef should twice fry for perfect home cooked French fries. All in all, if the food had been excellent I would have given it a 5 star. We will try again, maybe for dinner next time. They have a wasp problem out on the deck who wanted desperately to share our meal. Price of food was unnecessarily high. It's not like it's out in the boonies. Just a few adjustments and it would be an awesome place, a fun destination restaurant with drinks. I know they cater to tourists but they could have a big local following with better food and adjusted prices and more generous drinks. read more

Peter and Evelyn are the most gracious hosts you will find in Alaska. The cabins are comfy, clean and as a bonus you have a Keurig coffee maker! As a manager for a walking tour group, we appreciate how easy they are to work with. This year our clients went to Pyrah's U Pick farm and brought back veggies which Peter incorporated into our dinner. They have a world class wine and beer list to go with the fresh, local fare on the menu. We'll be back next year for sure! read more

A little gem an hour outside of Anchorage. The views from all the cabins are amazing. The helicopter ride was exceptional. The glacier tour helicopter pilot was very competent, knowledgeable and took us on a great ride. Highly recommend the glacier tour. Front office staff was really helpful and friendly. Christie and Sierra made the experience even better with their advice and stories of living there. Dinner was solid although the fish was a bit cold. Paid multiple visits for a gourmet meal close to home. Couldn't ask for a better setting and table fare that is unbeatable.

We just came for dinner. The wine and beer menu was expansive and well-chosen, although I'd like to see a few more Alaskan brews. The food was very good and carefully prepared (although my king crab wasn't spectacular). The server was personable and attentive, but brand-new, and got overwhelmed when the yurt filled up. Had our wedding here and it was one of the most unpleasant experiences we've had to go through. The new owners are exceedingly poor with communication to the point that, after weeks of unreturned calls and emails, I had to drive there and insist on speaking with them. There is a glacier helicopter tour that takes off and lands on the property. We were promised that they would schedule around our wedding time. Two hours before the ceremony we were told that they would be having a flight land at the time of our scheduled start (which we had scheduled with the lodge a year in advance). No apologies, merely that they had no plans of changing the flight. Weeks before our wedding the lodge was given a timeline, but the food was late by an hour and we had to send under-cooked food back to the kitchen. For how expensive this place is I would have expected better service. read more

I have eaten at the lodge twice now. First experience was for Easter brunch. The food was flavorful, but three of the people in our party experienced ice cold potatos. My wife and I were giving them another shot, so we went again. We had a reservation for a party of four. Upon arrival nobody else was in the restaurant. The staff attempted to seat us near the front desk, but we asked for another table near the view. Staff said that table we chose was set for a party of five. We moved to the deck instead. The waitress advised that the wedding party the previous night cleaned them out, so most of the menu items were not available. Wait, you are 15 miles from a grocery store and 40 road miles from the largest city in Alaska. How can you still be out of food the day after a wedding party. As we chose from menues two remaining items, another group arrived for dinner. I overheard the waitress tell that party of four that they had no food left and could only serve them drinks and appatizers. This is five o'clock on a Sunday and no food left to serve guests. Sorry, but I highly recommended eating anywhere else, but here. P.S. nobody ever sat at the table set for five and on both experiences the service was extremely slow. read more

Out exploring on a recent visit to AK and stopped here for lunch with my wife, mother and father on July 13, 2017. Staff was nice, place was clean, prices reasonable for where you are and the view was awesome but unfortunately the food was just terrible. Three of us ordered burgers, two well done and one medium well. All came rare to medium. Also the potato salad that came as a side was very under-cooked and crunchy and the pickle served as a garnish appeared to have a bite taken out of it. This place has real potential but they need to sort things out in the kitchen with an emphasis on QC. Will try again next year and hope for improvement. read more

We went for a day only, with the Lodge's driver John picking us up at our Anchorage hotel and driving us the hour to the camp. We had a helicopter ride through a stunning, broad valley with mountains, lakes and glaciers, and then - pure joy - a few hours with Justin S and his Iditarod dog team camp. Ecstatic happiness all around! The 39 dogs there are so excited to run the sleds, they love people, they are healthy and fit, they loved taking us out on a little dogsled ride, and they are in love with their master Justin and are amazingly tuned in to his every word, no matter where they are in harness or in the camp. Sitting on the sled watching them run in front pulling us through the snow, as we listened to Justin's stories, was totally awesome. The Lodge staff were terrific. We had dinner after our day in doggie heaven, and it was excellent - first seafood chowder, then I had caesar salad with grilled salmon, my husband had a burger - all delicious and far beyond ordinary. I want to camp out with the dog team for a month now! read more
