Sunset over Knik Arm and The Alaska Range. Mt. Susitna to the right.

Susitna Place B&B is a wonderfully unique, peaceful gem in Anchorage. Hosted by Monica H., with husband, Steve, the atmosphere exudes tranquility and harmony as perfectly as the spectacular views. This gracious, charming couple offer a remarkable breakfast and delightful conversation to start your day on the best of notes. Monica is constantly expanding her knowledge of things to do and places to see as she and Steve explore and exchange information with guests about new adventures. She is a knowledgeable resource. Monica is a genius at décor, adorning walls with art that accentuates magnificent natural features--such as Mt. Susitna ("Sleeping Lady")--seen through the large pane windows; displaying paintings and photographs of Alaskan wildlife in their habitat; and, selecting maps and references to inspire inquisitiveness about the rich culture and heritage of the 49th state. Susitna Place B&B lies in an enviable location between Anchorage's serene coastline and fun downtown attractions. Perched on a quiet bluff overlooking Knik Arm--one of Cook Inlet's two tidal branches that frame Anchorage to the west--Susitna Place is the perfect base camp for accessing the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail and its variety of scenic views and wildlife. Downtown Anchorage's shops, restaurants, and other attractions are equally accessible by foot. The Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center, Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, and a half dozen museums are short walks away. From the exceptionally appointed Susitna Suite and awesome views from it and the Denali Suite; to the spectacular vantage point of the upstairs common area & deck; to the cozy Illiamna, St. Elias, and Katmai Rooms with their special features; to the rare and coveted 4-space carport - Susitna Place B&B will not disappoint. --Scott & Trice, Nov 2020 & Feb 2021

We stayed at Susitna Place on our first trip to Alaska. The trip started with the drama of my forgetting my passport, without which I could not board the cruise ship. A series of semi-adventures ensued, culminating in my passport being sent counter-to-counter on Continental Airlines from Austin to Anchorage, on the day I was to board the ship. The passport would arrive too late for me to catch the cruise company's shuttle from Anchorage to the ship terminal in Whittier, 67 miles away. Susitna Place's owner, Linda Boles, was majorly helpful and resourceful in several aspects, the most significant being arranging for my passage from Anchorage airport to Whittier after I pick up my passport at Continental's counter. This review would have been the same without that incident, however. Susitna Place is a clean, tidy, and beautiful bed-and-breakfast just off Anchorage's downtown. (It's about a 12 minutes walk at a leisurely pace to center of downtown.) The place has 8 rooms, many with private bathroom, some with shared bathrooms. The rooms are comfortably and cozily furnished. The majority of the bathrooms are newly renovated, clean, with modern and well-functioning fixtures, with ample supplies of towels, liquid soap, body wash, etc. The beds are comfortable. There is free WiFi (ping 59 ms, 0.26 Mb/s upload, 0.06 Mb/s download). The place was built as triplex, with 8 rooms, 5 w/ private bath, 3 without, 7 full bathrooms altogether. We shared the one suite with my cousin and her husband. The suite has a livingroom with a sleeper sofa and a bedroom; the bathroom is accessible from either the living or the bedroom. The "breakfast" part of the deal is above average, in my opinion. We enjoyed a reasonable spread of cereals, several kinds of artisan bread and muffins with butter, cream cheese, jams; breakfast pastries; good quality fruits: mango, blueberries, grapes, plums, etc. along with the usual OJ, tea, coffee, etc. The social aspect of mingling with other guests at breakfast was enjoyable, as with any B&B. The breakfast area has floor-to-ceiling windows, with a kick-@ss view of a beautiful Alaskan inlet. We would definitely stay here if we find ourselves in Anchorage again.

This place is amazing. The location is great and the views are absolutely beautiful. The suite we had was so nice. Very clean and extremely comfortable with every little amenity you could want. The bed was really comfortable and we got a great nights sleep. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and Monica, the owner, was so kind and attentive. We will definitely stay here again if we're back in Anchorage.

Just another late summer night in Anchorage.

My fiance took me up to Girdwood for a surprise valentines day thing. When he said we were staying…read moreat a bed and breakfast since the Alyeska hotel was completely booked, I began to panic a bit. I always imagined B&B's to be kinda awkward and weird staying with strangers in a home. But all my assumptions were completely wrong. This place was amazing!! The home is sooo beautiful and spacious. They have 3 bedrooms downstairs with a large den area with a tv and lots of dvds. There is also a hot tub outside on the deck as well. A door is located downstairs so it makes it convenient for you to go in and out as you please. Each bedroom has a bathroom inside so you don't have to worry about sharing the bathroom with strangers. The rooms are very spacious and you really feel at home. They have complementary soaps, lotions, toothpaste and everything like a hotel. For breakfast, they print out a customized menu with your names on top. Such a nice touch! I loved it. Breakfast comes with coffee/tea and juices, fruit plate and a choice of a breakfast entree. They cook it as you order it. The owners were very friendly and made it a very comfortable stay. I would totally recommend this B&B to anymore. Differently a great experience!

We stayed for two nights in July, 2016, and would definitely recommend staying here! This property…read morewas built specifically to function as a B&B, and it's clear that Michelle and Ron put a great deal of thought into building their home as a warm, inviting, and very functional space. We arrived a little late the first night, and were greeted by Michelle, who gave us a quick tour, taking us through the dining room on the main level, downstairs to the common sitting room from which the three guest rooms are accessed. As one example of a smart design, guests access the sitting room by way of a separate downstairs entrance, with plenty of spots for wet shoes and jackets in the entryway. (Shoes off while in the B&B!) We stayed in the Creekside Suite, which provided ample and comfortable space for us and our two adult children. Michelle made us feel welcome and right at home. As did the delicious cookies she left for us! The room was great. If we had to make any suggestion, it would be to provide some sort of movable privacy screen in the bathroom. Not needed for a couple, but would be helpful when traveling as a family. Breakfasts were fantastic, with a daily custom menu with many tempting alternatives from which to choose. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we had. Michelle and Ron are fabulous hosts. They are friendly and hospitable, great conversationalists, and helped us with great tips to enjoy our stay in the area. We didn't get to spend a lot of time with Bailey the dog (apparently, he's not allowed to join the guests for breakfast!), but he was out when we went up to say goodbye on our last day. He's a big, lovable teddy bear of a dog. Be careful once you start petting him--he may not let you stop! :) The Girdwood area is beautiful. We enjoyed some hiking (Winner's Creek and Virgin Creek Falls) while we were in the area, in between our other planned activities: a dog sled ride on Punchbowl Glacier, and the 26 Glacier boat tour out of Whittier. Hidden Creek B&B was the perfect home away from home for us in Girdwood, and we would definitely stay there if we are ever again fortunate enough to return to the area. Thank you, Ron and Michelle!
