Building has beautiful hanging flowers outside and the carper pattern looked neat and check in area was inviting. Love the kitchenette that has some stocked cups and pans etc. nice size fridge and freezer too. Very nice to have an inside laundromat that also comes with snack vending machines and a table / tv to relax if desired. Only downside is my couch that folds out as a bed didn't have any extra bedding besides a broken zippered mattress protector. read more

Aspen Suites Hotel is a dog friendly hotel ($20 per night, per dog) that has a kitchenette that allows for hotel guest to cook in their room during their travel. My husband and I were traveling to Alaska with our little girl dog (she always travels with us) and so I thought this would be a good hotel to stay in but am thankful that I only booked this place for one night because we had a poor experience. This hotel is across from a plaza with Starbucks and Hilton Garden Inn. We stayed for one night (a Saturday) in a queen suite, which cost me ~$280 for one night. We had arrived earlier in Anchorage than expected and so we called the hotel to ask if our room would be ready. The employee said probably after 12 pm. So later on, we had called around 1:45 pm if a room would be available to check in earlier (check in is at 3 pm). The employee said yes and so we drove over. When we checked in, we were surprised to be told by the employee checking us in that there is no room available yet, even though this was the exact same employee who told us (over the phone) that a room was available. We ended up waiting in the car until 3. So at 3 pm, we finally checked in. Got the luggage dolly and headed up to the second floor. However, the room we went in had a very, very strong smell of mold, mildew and a chemical cleaning smell. My husband was already out of patience by then and so we headed back to the front desk. Another employee said that we could only be placed in this room because the 2nd floor is the pet floor... but since there is no other rooms she refused to give us another room. After some arguing from my husband, we were placed in another room, but on the first floor (right next to the laundry room. Yes there are coin operated washers and dryers in this hotel). This room was clean and did not have a odor but it was annoying to hear the laundry room door slam throughout the day and part of the evening. A few days after we had checked, I saw on my credit card bill that I was over charged a pet fee for our stay. But at least the manager I spoke to on the phone was able to credit me back the fee. But find it to be annoying that I was over charged (again we only stayed one night) and had to call to reverse the charge. I also glad that I always like to check my credit card transactions regularly to catch things like this. The room itself was fine and space was comfortable for 2 people and a pet. But was expecting much better service. read more

We spent 10 days in January and February. Reasonable price to stay. Staff was excellent. No bad attitude, friendly and accommodating. This was our first time in Alaska and I am in awe at the friendly and easy going people here. Rooms were clean, organized and well furnished. Keep up the great work. Definitely not disappointed. The Starbucks coffee shop next door is the 2nd best Starbucks I've ever been to. And I'm not a real Starbucks fan either. The Bear Paw Grill is really good as well. PROS -Plenty of free parking. We came back at all hours and were always able to easily find a parking space. -Close to lots of restaurants. -Close to lots of stores such as Walmart, Lowes and AK Frost. -Close to highways, Anchorage attractions & downtown. -Clean. -Comfortable. -Felt safe. -Courteous, friendly and helpful staff. -Quick and easy check in/check out. -AC worked very well. -Room had a stove top, microwave, fridge and freezer. -Dishes and cutlery supplied as well as dish dry rack, dish towels and dish soap. -Closet in restroom. -Full length mirror in restroom. -Had an iron and ironing board. -Also had a laundry basket for use with bringing down towels. -Full laundry room downstairs ($2 wash, $2 dry & $1.50 for single serve detergent packs). - Quarters available at front desk for laundry room. -Vending machines in the laundry room included snacks and sandwiches, etc. CONS -That there was no free breakfast. -The pull out sofa was smaller than full size so I don't see how that room would comfortably accommodate 4 people. -Could feel the springs on the pull out sofa mattress but it wasn't too bad. -Expensive for what it is but for that area and time of year, a good deal. -No USB outlets. -Outlets on the lamps were a bit wonky (worked occasionally) but they did have wall outlets that worked well. -Credit card function on vending machines did not work on 2 out of 3. -1 dryer did not dry clothes all the way. -It would have been better to have a mirror outside of the restroom (multiple people getting ready and no mirror outside of restroom). - No lock on restroom door Note: Front desk is NOT 24 hours. Arrangements need to be made if you are checking in outside of those hours. I believe the security guard assists in such cases but call to make sure. We had a car so we didn't have the concerns of others about walking distances, walking in the area, etc. However, this hotel is just a hop skip and a jump from the downtown sketch and homeless villages...but that's just downtown Anchorage PERIOD. read more

I wasn't familiar with the Aspen Suits brand when I first booked this hotel in Anchorage. Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised by our experience there. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The front desk service downstairs was knowledgeable and professional. This hotel is located not too far away from REI, Moose's Tooth, Costco and Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary. Hotel was very clean and rooms are very spacious! The only down fall is they only clean once a week and we were there for 6 days. We asked for the room to be clean when we were gone all day during the end of our stay so we could get fresh linen and towels. Returned to the room not cleaned so a bit frustrating. Overall the location was close to the airport and the staff was friendly. Free coffee and tea located downstairs in the lobby. read more

I have stayed at this hotel several times and it's been excellent each time. But this last stay was surprisingly bad. I was very disappointed in staff who would say they were going to fix something for you and then never show up. I called the front desk because the TV wasn't working. It wasn't getting any signal. The lady asked what room I was in, said she would be up right away, and never showed up. There was no TV for the test of the night. My toilet didn't work properly for the entire stay. I called the front desk, who sent up a maintenance person. They said they would replace the flashing mechanism the next day. I never saw them again, the flashing mechanism was never replaced and I had to fix the toilet myself every time I flushed it. I will most likely will not stay again. read more

There was a girl on the phone that didn't acknowledge us as we waited forever for her to get off the phone. The hotel was clean, comfortable and roomy. We were impressed with the kitchenette, but we didn't need to use it. The only thing that I was not happy with was the fact that the bathroom didn't have a fan and the room had that stupid barn door which didn't offer any privacy. I don't know what it is about Anchorage and barn doors, but another hotel I stayed in had one too. I woke up with a horrible head/neck ache in the wee hours of the morning and were pleasantly surprised to see that the security guard had just passed our room. Worst customer service ever. Called about 11 am and asked if I could get checked in early. They said 12-12:30. Showed up and still not ready,another 20 minutes, 20 minutes later another 30 minutes, 30 minutes later and it was come back at 3. Maids were sitting outside the room I was supposed to be in just gabbing away. That was last straw and I told them to cancel reservation for 2 nights in person. Went across street to a trusted hotel instead. Next day im looking at my bank statement and they had went ahead and charged my account for both nights. Called bank to dispute the charges after the call to the Aspen front desk and they said she couldn't do anything. Never again will I give them a chance. They blew it,especially since I come through town every 6 weeks for work .save your money there is better elsewhere. read more

I've been staying at Aspen Hotels off and on since 2002. This one in Anchorage is clean, neat, and well appointed. The staff is always very friendly, helpful, and courteous. Just this evening, the very nice young lady at the Front Desk was nice enough to let me use some detergent for the laundry room that they had, because the dispenser order hadn't arrived. There have been times I've come here because I've been very ill, and had hospital appointments, and they always go out of their way to make things as comfortable as possible. I've always been able to get a room, even when I came early in the morning. They've never made me wait. I live in Rural Alaska, so having the refrigerator in the room is a big plus. We can buy a lot of fresh and frozen food to take home, and we don't have to worry about where to store it. read more

If you are looking for a room that smells SO bad that you are forced to keep the window wide open at all times, you have found your spot! Our room was rank with the odor of what was possibly a month old rotten diaper mixed with a puke aroma. If we didn't need to shower and eat dinner and continue on to other priorities that evening, I would have requested a different room. We hunted for the source of the stink to no avail. Must just be a warm Alaskan welcome to give the tourists the grossest thing available. Ps- the shower curtain is useless. Water goes straight through onto the floor, which is dangerous. The sheets are the cheapo $10 walmart see-through microfiber variety. read more

Stayed here for a week in July 2017 based on several positive reviews. The room was nice sized, with an oversized table that doubled as a desk, with chairs, benches and two arm chairs for reading. Nice. The kitchen amenities were adequate, but no paper towels were provided, which would have been nice. The two burner cooktop took a bit of getting used to, since it was tied to a crank timer in the wall (hmmmm), but we eventually figured it out. Nice, full-sized refrigerator and freezer, but no ice trays. Ice was downstairs on the first floor. (Little things like this keep us from giving this nice hotel five stars-- Mariott properties have details like this figured out. How much do ice trays and paper towels cost? Right-- not much. But would sure have been helpful.) Beds were GREAT and the room was quiet. And the climate controls worked well. Very good location-- ideal. Close to the airport, close to downtown, close to restaurants. Safe part of town, lots of parking and well lit for security. The staff were excellent. Can't say enough good things about them. They're only there from 6 am until midnight, after which a security guard takes over. No big deal. Free wifi, which was fast and easily connected to each day. Would definitely recommend this property to visitors to the Anchorage area. Made a very nice base of operations for us! read more

My problems started with WiFi. There was a serious issue with WiFi and it was not connecting to any devices (note that I have an electrical engineering degree and have worked on this stuff before). When I reported this issue with the reception staff, a young lady, the response was "this is what we have in Anchorage". Oh, I paid $461 for two days for the wrong room description! Furthermore, I was there for two days, and they neither did anything to repair it nor contacted me on this. I was on a business trip and had to work at night, and this completely ruined my comfort. On top of the above experience, on my last day, unfortunately, I decided to use their washing machine, and it turned out to be a horrendous experience. There was an automatic detergent dispenser. I put the coins, nothing came out. After contacting the receptionist and waiting for 25 minutes, I was given a detergent packet. Then I loaded my clothes into the washing machine, poured the detergent and inserted the coins. OMG! It didn't work (I have used such coin-machines before and realized something is wrong with the machine). All my clothes were soaked in the detergent in the washing machine, and it was around 12:15 am, and I had a flight at 6:00 am. The reception was closed by that time, and there was a security person. He was from a third-party company and was not aware of anything and didn't have access to their storerooms. I didn't dare to try another washing machine (more than that no more coins left). That night was horrible for me. I had to hand-wash my cloths and dry it with cloth iron. I couldn't sleep and my business appointment in the morning didn't go well. Yes, I admit that I didn't plan it well. But they could have at least put a name board and checked all the machines promptly. More than that they neither have the courtesy to contact me later (the security personal wrote down all my details) nor to return the money I inserted into the machine. Suppose something worse happens at night (like a serious plumbing/electrical issue) and your reception does not work at night (12:00 am - 6:00 am, I guess), who will the customer contact? In short, you will get a good room, but never expect a service for the price you pay for! read more

Although the rooms are nice and clean, the mattress felt like it had been trampled by buffaloes! The front desk clerk was very friendly and professional. Overall a nice hotel, but the purpose of a hotel is to sleep. And a very uncomfortable, cheap mattress negates whole the point. read more

Pleasantly surprised! The room was much bigger than we had expected. The bed was comfy, but very bouncy. The sheets were so soft! There was a couch, which is always nice, sometimes you don't want to lounge in the bed. I believe it pulls out into another bed. The bathroom was open and very clean. There is a small kitchen, so if you're staying for more than a night you can actually cook! Two burner stove, full fridge, microwave and all the pots, pans, plates, silverware and almost any other essential you'd need to feel a little like home. The staff was nice, their computer system was new so our reservation was a little hard to find, but she made it work well. Overall I'd say a pretty nice place, especially for those visiting for a while. The only down side, which was kinda fixable was the heat. It is in the single digits right now so a warm room is a must. It was 55 when we got there. We cranked the heat and went to dinner. By the time we got back it was up to 65. Took all night to finally get to 70. Now if you're not into feeling like you're in the tropics, you'll be fine! read more

We stayed for four days in August. The place is very clean, quiet, and centrally located to the surroundings in Anchorage. There is some noise from Tudor, but not bad. Several chain restaurants nearby. The front desk and housekeeping staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a large room with two beds that had a small kitchenette which included refrigerator, two burner stove, microwave along with some utensils as well as pots and pans. They do not provide housekeeping on a daily basis, which was fine with us. read more

I want everyone to know that the Aspen is a Do It Yourself kind of lodging. You will take your own trash out, you will get housekeeping service only if you rented for more than a week. They only gave you 2 sets of bath towels and 3 pillows only. They shut down the front desk at midnight (might be just a winter thing) and open again at 5am. They do have security on the premises, but he was adamant that he did not do front desk tasks and had no way on to their computer. These are some of the cost cutting things that make this property cheaper than its neighbors. Now...I will agree with others that the staff are not very friendly, that there are little things that need maintenance all over the place and that the bed was of poor quality (wife did not sleep well the 5 nights we were there.) The things I did like: It is located in a perfect spot. The room was fairly large, the bathroom has a sliding door (not a great thing if you need to use said bathroom at 3am) but it helped make the room look bigger. i stayed here for a weekend in October, and i loved the stay. front desk staff was friendly, hotel may seem quiet but it was great. the room (with full refrigerator, kitchenette WITH few pots and pans and dishware!) made my stay more comfortable like i would be at home. very clean room, clean bathroom. only thing i didnt like at first was my room was cold after checking in but was quickly heated after a few mins. other than that, i would stay here again. read more
