This is our go to for sit down Chinese food near Bluffton. We love the scallion pancakes, garlic cucumber salad, sautéed green beans, chicken with broccoli, fried rices, and hot pot dishes. We've tried just about everything and haven't found anything we don't like there. Coming from up north it was hard to find Chinese food in the area that had the right flavors, but E Tang comes really close! Service is quick and there are tables available without a wait. they know us in there now after a few visits and always welcome us with a smile. I ordered a large order to go ...and it was missing the one entree after calling them back they wanted to insisted we received what we ordered and I was wrong- that she read it back to me which she did and it was correct ...but what came home The bag was not. .... 11-1-24 I can't remember the last time that I was this excited about a restaurant. We are new to the area and just settled to know that there is no Chinese food in the area. I heard from neighbors about this place. It just opened 10 days ago. I wasn't expecting much just that we were getting out. Once we arrived there was a wait. They said 20 minutes. We were willing to wait every one that left said they loved it and took a take out menu with them. Once seated we ordered the following: Medium Won Ton soup Scallion Pancakes Egg Rolls Pork Pan Fried Dumplings Pork Fried Rice Crispy Spicy Chicken They don't have a liquor license yet so you can BYOB or wait until January 2025. I had a Coke my hubby a Sprite. The food came out hot and delicious. Each dish including the sauce for that particular dish. We ended with Fortune Cookies. All I can say is "Wow" even the atmosphere was beautifully decorated and the seating was comfortable. Will be back again and again very soon. read more

This is our third visit to this E-tang location. We went to the location on Hilton Head once (first ever visit). The food is usually pretty good, a considerable step up from the Chinese restaurants in our hometown, or the Chinese restaurants that we have visited in this region. Tonight, we ordered the Steamed Pork and Shrimp Siu Mai and the Pork with Smoked tofu. The shumai were quite small and there were only four in the order ($8.95). The pork was a far more generous serving and was priced at $19.95. This came with shredded pork (loin, I believe), matchsticks of smoked tofu, celery pieces cut on the bias, short segments of scallions, and a lot of soy sauce...very salty. An unexpected ingredient was a large piece of culinary Saran-style wrap that must have come off one of their pans. I had the entire gross thing in my mouth before realizing my mistake. 10% was taken off the bill for this mishap. I think it would have been more appropriate to have comped the dish, but they offered a sesame cucumber dish or ice cream as an apology/compensation, but we wanted neither. I honestly don't understand why Chinese food places, run by Chinese people can't prepare real Chinese food. This is a bland, "americanized" version of something akin to Chinese food. Believe it or not there are those of us that like "real" Chinese food. This ain't it. We ordered Bao, barely warmed, garlic pork. Meh. And the hot and sour soup? I thinks it time to go back home to Boston. General TSO was inedible it was mush the chicken was over velvetized and way too much breading, they forgot the sweet and sour soup, Veg LoMeim was very good, the Dumplings were so so, the fried rice was awful, the pork fried rolls were so so. The Mongolian Beef was ok, again over velvatized and beef had too much grisel. It was cold and we had to wait for pickup Anywhere in the Northeast they would close within a year. This was a meal two people with minor left overs. With the Mandatory 10% tip and svc zoom other charge it came to over 86 bucks. The people who live in Bluffton and think this food is good, i feel sorry for them. I'm not a foodie, these restaurants all take advantage of us! My second time, no more. We went for the first time for my birthday. Started with shrimp and pork Siu Mai. Different than what I'm used to but delicious. Next Walnut Shrimp. Again not the mayo based sauce we were used to but just plain shrimp that had a delicious crunchy but thin crust. Yum. Still a little hungry so we tried the Twice cooked pork which is Pork belly so there was some yummy fat! Great flavors with some good spice (we asked for medium) and with the jalapeños a little more spice but tolerable. Staff was awesome and attentive but not overly so. They made recommendations as well as explanation of the food. Loved the decor. Especially the face logo that was on glasses and plates. Very clean and modern. read more

The new location in Okatie is bright and cheery inside. We have been twice for lunch and dinner. Food was delicious both times. My husband likes the General Tso's and I like the shrimp with walnuts. The restaurant is new, bright and fresh. However the food and service could be going through some growing pains. We were with 5 other friends, and all ordered at once. The food arrived in fits and spurts, random waiters just dropped off food one at a time. One of our friends finally got their meal while the rest of us were finishing up. Some of the appetizers were excellent, while we found the main dishes bland, way over sauced or just not to our taste. We hope these are only growing pains and hope they do improve. We need more good restaurants in the Bluffton area. read more

The food is usually good and as one other reviewer states it is a step up from some of the other Asian restaurants around the area. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. However, if there is prevailing issue they have and that is fast service. EVERY time we visit E-Tang we are out the door in under 1 hour. We don't get it! You order your appetizer, and it shows before they can take the menus. As for dinner, you're trying to enjoy your appetizer, and the meal shows up. The bigger problem is once you finish your meal, whether or not your spouse or other guests are still eating they start to clear your plates which gives you the feeling they want you out. To top it all off, on our most recent visit we were asked if we wanted desert and before I could answer, the server said, "I assumed you wouldn't" and hands me the check; which if my memory serves me provides suggested gratuities that include the sales tax...hmmm. read more

My wife had scallion pancakes as a starter which she enjoyed. I, on the other hand, found it quite doughy. The egg-drop soup was spiced right and a good starter. As a main my wife had the garlic scallops that I found too hot as they had chilli's in it. She thoroughly enjoyed it. My Magnolian beef with fried rice in a light soy sauce was well great and I would not hesitate to order it again. The ambience was good, the decor has a mix of Chinese art and neon signs. Went to the Okatie restaurant . what a disappointment! Will only comment on food since a restaurants reputation relies on the quality of their menu. We were very excited to try a highly recommended Chinese restaurant. We ordered egg rolls. On a scale of ten, they would be a one...ordered wonton soup, no flavor either in the wonton filling or in the broth...maybe a 2 at best...our entrees were the general Thai chicken and the "dry" chicken...vegetables were limp and appeared to be leftover from the day before and the dry chicken was hard to describe. Overly salty on one side of the plate and spicy on the other side...barely a two! we are not picky eaters and have eaten Chinese all over the world. This was an incredible disapointment. We have been to E Tang in Okatie 3 times since it has opened and each time we have found the food to be excellent and very tasteful. Plus the service has been fantastic and very friendly. Food was best we've had in the Hilton Head/Bluffton area. This is a new restaurant in Bluffton definitely has some kinks to work out. The restaurant is very very bright. (To bright) The staff has a bit of language barrier to work out. We were trying to ask for napkins did not understand what we were saying. Had to hold up a napkin. Food was very good. The downside was it was all delivered at different times. So much so some members of your party may be halfway through their food by the time another dish arrives. We heard such great things about this restaurant so we decided to try it. My husband ordered egg drop soup, it arrived stone cold! We asked them for hot soup, they never brought any back. I ordered egg rolls as my ENTREE they brought it way before my husband's meal. We asked for pepper and they brought chop sticks. We asked for refills on our drinks (non alcoholic as they don't have a liquor license until January) and did not receive any at all. The staff needs to get a better understanding of English to communicate better with customers in the future. We won't be back! read more
