I had just moved into the neighborhood when the fridge that came with my house died and in the process killed several outlets in my kitchen. I'd talked to the staff at Grover's who suggested that the culprit was probably a GCFI outlet that had been tripped and/or "died" because it was old and that I could solve my electrical problems by replacing it. I bought the necessary supplies and spent the rest of the day installing it, but it still did not work. So the next morning I called Edward who (a) confirmed Grover's diagnosis, (b) suggested I had the line and load cables reversed, and (c) offered to come by and double-check it later at no charge. After we hung up, I decided to try reversing the connections and sure enough this did indeed turn out to be the problem. All of my outlets were restored to power. I really appreciate Edward's willingness to coach me and the offer of free service. But more importantly was the way I was treated. It's tiring always having to be on your guard with tradespeople who assume that women are incapable of solving electrical puzzles and/or simply just don't respect women (or their competency) in general. The power in my garage had stopped working one day. I called E Line Electric after having spoken to several other electricians who said they could get me on their schedule some time the following week. I then talked to Eddie who said he happened to be in the area and could come within 15 MINUTES! I was blown away. I believe people should provide rates and consumers should ask when consulting. I failed on my part as did he. As he started working on it I asked how much he thought it would be and how he took payment. He did cash, check, and Venmo (with a Venmo fee) . He needs to install a card onto his phone. He told me the cost and I agreed. I am at a business that operates in a home and tried to contact the financially responsible parties because the card I had would not be an option. Being a small, little known business and a first time customer, I was worried he would not think we were good to pay it. I did discuss this with him and said we could setup payment unless he required it at the time of service. It came across as he did need it immediately. I did not want to leave him hanging and wanted repeat business so I made the choice to pay via MY Venmo, knowing I would be reimbursed. I was informed by my work for tax purposes it would have been better to have him wait on the payment. I messaged him and explained the situation and he said it was too late for returning the venmo and he would bill. I said we could meet to exchange check for cash or he can venmo in my presence after grtting paid by my work. I gave him 2 emails. That is the last communication on his part, and I messaged about 3 times in a week saying I did not get an invoice or anything. I understand I was a bit naive as I have never called an electrician before, but being that he is growing his business I would have thought he would have been better about things. That said, I did my best to be flexible with solutions, communicative, honest, and do things to better HIS business, and that is how he responded. A couple of days ago, we lost power to our kitchen outlets.
