Wow!! I called these guys today hoping that they could attend to a problem with power outages for no reason in my home. Prairie Electric sent 2 guys to my home for a tripped breaker that would not reset. The 1st guy was professional the 2nd guy, a bit younger, never once gave me eye contact; PROBLEM started there. My crawl space light was NOT illuminated when they arrived, crawl space light WAS illuminated when they left. And the guy informed me " the fan is working, you don't have to worry about light! THE SAME STATEMENT WAS MADE BY "Dan", when I phoned to discuss this issue!!! I am a very meticulous African American Woman and I DO NOT run my household in such a manner. If the light is NOT to be on, I will ensure it is NOT on, by ensuring repaired properly! I will get this issue resolved by a company that treats me as fairly as they take my money!!!!! Reason given was one of the fans MAY need replacing (previously informed FAN is working nothing to worry about); which is it FAN WORKING OR NOT!!!!! Illuminated light indicates FAN NOT WORKING!!!!! I was informed they would have to come back to replace (did not have part on truck) and I WOULD have to pay ANOTHER $260, service call fee! NOT IN THIS LIFETIME!!!! Issue was diagnosed by tech on site, lite came on as a result of technician performing other task! I should have been informed they would go get the part and come back and replace! I felt, if my skin had been a different pigmentation, I would have been given the option that was given to another reviewer "they ran and got my part immediately" (likely WAS NOT my ethnicity)! I do not feel this company is DIVERSITY FRIENDLY!!! THEY WILL TAKE AN AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN'S GREEN MONEY, HOWEVER, WILL NOT GIVE FAIR TREATMENT!!!!! Oh my goodness. So happy with this company! We were given a window of 30 minutes, which was wonderful. They called to let me know that they were on their way, which was nice. Dean and Jason came out and were so pleasant and so thoughtful. (We have light carpets, and they put on booties without me saying a word. Thank you!). They checked out the problem, explained to us what had happened, and ran to get the necessary part for us. Before they left, they had us check the oven to make sure that all was well. Very disappointed, I did my research and based on several sites, Prairie Electric looked like the best choice... but they unfortunately ignored my primary concern and moved on. Context. Kitchen outlets tripped, and the breaker wasn't un tripping, kept saying there was an arc fault. I tried everything I could in my limited skillset and desire to not be electrocuted but nothing worked. I called Prairie explicitly voicing a concern with the arc fault showing on the breaker. They arrive in a few days while I'm at work, while my wife is wrangling the kids, and untripped the breaker at the panel. No muss, no fuss. HOWEVER, that doesn't erase the concern about potentially faulty wiring I had in my initial request. While I'm glad it's working, there is some underlying issue that could be catastrophic. Hopefully, it was a fluke, but it not being investigated will either make me a ghost from an electrical fire, or by having unfinished business of not knowing why it said arc fault in the first place. Not ideal. Edit: Normally I appreciate a sarcastic reply, but this isn't just a few bucks, but rather 200 dollars. Communication simply explaining why it wouldn't untrip and why it would say arc fault even if the wiring was tested would have met my expectations. The reply from the business manager further cements my conviction in leaving this review, wildly unprofessional. If I lay out specific issues, you should address them, not avoid the subject. You clearly know my number and had you called me to answer those questions, I'd have amended this. read more

Very disappointing, nice guys but what I witnessed was awful, sloppy, inadequate, wasteful, unprofessional work. One example of their work. Wrap a black wire with white tape to make it look like a neutral. It may be acceptable and an inspector is not going to open every electrical box to check wiring, but it does not meet my standards. I called Clark County and they came out and appraised the cause as a panel switch that is located in the garage I called a large outfit that gave me an appraisal that I thought was too obsessive after a slew of information? I then called Prairie Electric and after a less then 2 minute discussion they said they'd swing by. Two young guys Mike & Trey came in the afternoon. They had to hunt a bit maybe 10 minutes after approval by Ritchie our Siamese cat which is the boss of everything that happens in this house? They discovered the cause which was a back porch switch which had fried and shorted out the panel switch. And all for a lot less $$money. We are happy and back in operation. I requested a call back and they (receptionist) stated Jon would call me back. He did call me later that day, but his voice sounded not to thrilled that he'd been asked to call me. I explained I needed two light fixtures fixed and one looked at. He quoted me an decent quote for the first hour. He stated it probably wouldn't take more than that, but that it would add up and gave me a quote for an additional hour. I let him know I need to speak to my spouse and get back with him. I called, not even an hour later, to set up an appointment. The receptionist explained they could not set up the appointment (Not sure why?!) and that they would have Jon call me back to do so. I left him a voicemail letting him know I was ready to set up an appointment time. I never heard back that day, nor the next, nor the next. A week later, no phone calls were returned and I felt strongly that he didn't think our job was big enough to bother calling us back. VERY BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE! We called Prairie Electric to discuss them coming to take a look at our whole-house generator that had stopped working here on the coast. they informed us that there would be travel costs as part of this, but that they would try to pair us with another customer on the coast, which we understood. They came out, spent 4 hours investigating the issue, and their final recommendation was to replace the generator with a $7000 new device. We got a second opinion from a different company, they came out, looked into the issue, did a software update, and the generator was fixed and working fine - all in about 20 minutes. When I called to discuss the situation, there was zero sympathy for the $500 charge nor the misdiagnosis that rubbed salt in the wound. Disappointing to say the least. read more

A few months later it stopped working again, they immediately came back to correct the problem without added charges. A week or 2 ago I must have overloaded a circuit or breaker. I tried Replacing an outlet and thought it might been the breaker. I called prairie and talked with a service person and they actually help me find a GFI that I didn't know existed. Totally helped and saved me the cost of service. We had several items needing a competent and professional electrician. The team of Brent and Dennis from Prairie did a fantastic job for us. We had them install two remote control Casablanca ceiling fans as well as to change out existing light fixtures with tract lighting, trouble shooting and repair of inoperative light switches. Brent's handling of the Installation of the ceiling fan in our high cathederal ceiling master bedroom was especially challenging and required great thought and innovation on addressing the challenge of the height and extreme angle at the peak, and also to deal with a daunting wiring correction and repair issue to complete the installaton. Brent successfully resolved all issues and reflected great expertise and experience in addressing and resolving the problems. Dennis, his partner did great work on the lighting installations and helping to figure out and over come issues with the ceiling fan remote settings, which he worked greatly with Brent to resolve.....5 Stars for excellence....and best of all, I found their rates and price for the extended time to be very reasonable and affordable. I wouldn't hesitate a minute calling Prairie Electric if we have another issue. The job he did for us was a little challenging, and he had to spend some time outside at night in the rain. Plus, he had to crawl through a crowded a ttic. Glenn also had to contend with two supervisors in the form of a coonhound and a very interested beagle that watched his every move. Please understand that this review comes from a completely inexperienced individual when it comes to hiring anyone to do work in their home. For two decades, I relied upon the expertise of my very talented husband, who could repair anything. As such, I did not know exactly what to expect or what things I should ask and so on. I called Prairie Electric on a Sunday to have a simple GFCI kitchen outlet replaced (the kind that control other outlets in the vicinity). I was mildly desperate, as all but one of my kitchen outlets were not working. I was told an electrician could be here on Tuesday, in the afternoon. The repair went fine, the electrician was completely professional and appeared to be quite competent. It took all of 10 minutes. I was completely satisfied. Until he told me the price. Now, yes, I was apparently remiss in requesting a quote. I am not sure why I didn't think of it, since I had looked for rates on the website prior to calling. I just didn't. Regardless, I knew electrician would not come cheap, and expected to pay maybe $100, maybe a little less, since it was such a simple and fast repair. When the electrician told me I owed $152, I was taken aback, but paid him. After considering it for a day, I called Prairie Electric the next morning and spoke with the Service Manager. I just wanted to let them know that I was unhappy and that I thought it might be wise of them, for the sake of the naive and inexperienced, to post rates on their website and perhaps make it common practice to just provide a base quote for the blanket "service call" whenever anyone calls for service. The manager seemed to understand what I was saying and indicated he wanted to make things right, asking how much I expected to pay. After I told him, he seemed hesitant, but said he would "do what he could to work that out for me." Immediately following that, he told me that he thought I needed to "share responsibility" for the lack of a quote though and proceeded to lecture me about how he would get quotes for any work being done, essentially shaming and embarrassing me (as if I wasn't enough of that already). I thanked him for his time and disconnected the call. To be clear, I did not call trying to get things altered, but rather to make them aware their practices resulted in a negative experience for a potential returning customer. I was trying to help them. My experience with the Service Manager served only to deepen my negative experience and has resulted in my finding it necessary to make this post. It is great that so many have had good experiences. I am happy for them. However, if you are a novice to this type of thing, take it from me, ask every question you can possibly think of, and consider reaching out to a different company for your electrical needs. read more

Very disappointed. I asked them to troubleshoot a wall heater connection. They said it's fine, there's power there. Charged me 125.00 for service call and an extra 20 to fix an outlet. Tried the new heater and it still doesn't work. They wanted to charge another service call fee when they didn't bother to check the thermostat or anything else. When I said that wasn't exactly fair since you didn't find the problem the first time around, they said, okay we can come back in two weeks. Not exactly great service. When I called for an estimate, on two separate occasions I was told that the job of dropping a 220V line from one room to the room next door would cost around $200. The first hour costs $130 and then there is an $80 fee for the second hour. When the nice guy came he opted out of crawling into the attic and just convinced me it was best to put junction box and a flex pipe to the new location 2 feet into the next room over. I was told the estimate for my original request would cost much, much more!? I agreed to the cost of $230 with the electrician telling me it might not take the full amount of time. When he finished less than 45 minutes later, I expected to not pay the price of two hours. No sir. When I brought it to his attention when it was time to pay, I said, but it took less than an hour? He agreed and said the rest of the cost was parts. He used : 2 metal boxes, 2 ft of 220v wire and metal flex pipe, and a socket that cost me $100?! Oh yes, he also used a handful of wingnuts. Add the tax on top of that and he got paid $250 and was here less than an hour!!! In a nutshell, he knew I had budgeted around $200, so.....He overcharged me and blamed it on a few parts?! Think you are going to pay the proper rate? Well, don't forget about the inflated prices of parts that cost them pennies. I expected honesty and work done as estimated. Instead, I get overcharged for a crooked metal box sticking out of the wall. :( Find a company that doesn't bait you with a low estimate!!! read more

I was expecting to wait a couple days, but he said an electrician could be there that afternoon. The electrician only charged me for the amount of my quote, even though he did extra work! My tenant said he was professional and explained what he was doing and why. They called me when the job was done and I was able to pay with a credit card over the phone.
