We've used Squires for all our electrical work over the last 13 yrs and wouldn't consider using any other company. My most recent work was to take power outside for a new pond. Steve & Hannah came to do the job, and they were awesome. I thought I'd dug the trench well, but they indeed had to dig/maneuver around a giant tree root- it was nasty work but they literally whistled while they worked! They were enjoyable to be around, and lovely to work with. Steve used some magic heating blanket to curve the conduit to match the artistic ditch I dug, and I now have POWER outdoors. So awesome. They need to improve their intake process. I live at a condo community and needed a light post light bulb changed out; provided photo, address and map with details. The technician arrived without supplies, didn't call to inform he was onsite and brought the wrong size ladder. Had another issue with a landscape light. Sent two emails with no response even though it's under warranty. Waited over a month for a response for another issue. I was told that it's normal to wait 1-2 weeks as they also deal with urgent matters. Overall, too difficult to work with and invoices are not detailed with light bulb information or product information. They provide free quotes over email. When I complained about the technician, they were unapologetic. Basically said pay the invoice and move on. read more

SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND JUST GO WITH A DIFFERENT COMPANY!!!! we had multiple teams come out to our house to assess damage and whatnot, they say- we need a clean work area. So we clean it up so they can get to panel. The team shows up on the scheduled date to work but say they can't do anything and have to reschedule us because all the cabinets to the right of the panel need to emptied and removed off the wall. So we get that done. They come back and say they can't do anything unless the entire wall to left of the panel is cleared! We ask, why didn't the previous 2 teams say anything about this?! We had time, we could of done it, if we'd known! Then the guys gets argumentative and threats to just leave and reschedule us AGAIN! That's very unprofessional. And bottom lime the gut was rude and said oh we could move it, but it would make our job suck so we aren't gonna do it. U have to. read more

A disaster gutted a third of our house. Six months into the recovery and rebuild, Squires Electric was called in and became a slow rolling roadblock. The first Squires electrician was ok-- though he didn't do anything and did not come back as he said he would. Took days to schedule the second guy-- holding up drywalling, painting, flooring & cabinets. But, Brandon was excellent. Went out of his way to do what was needed, fixed a problem didn't know we had. He's why Squires gets a 2 star rating. But he couldn't finish all the work. Days later, the third guy finally got there and was angry and gruff; showed it when he complained that Squires hadn't been called earlier. He worked for a while then came back and worked the next day but pulled out all the outlet sockets Brandon put in before he left because he "...didn't trust the drywallers to work around them." Which would require another call out to our place to put them back in and more $. The next week, the inspector decided another new outlet needed to be put in at a new location. OK, fine but Squires (or maybe same angry electrician) said they couldn't be installed without a drawing of cabinets-- not needed because two other outlet boxes (previously put in by Brandon) are on that same wall and a new one would go in above the counter online with them. But, Prime Contractor has Jose, his cabinet guy send his working drawing, But Squires (or maybe that electrician) doesn't like it and was a no show for appointment to finish the work. The Prime Contractor's guy was waiting in his car at our house and had to call Squires repeatedly to find out they weren't coming. That's when we all found out our project was to be stopped for more weeks while a drawing Squires liked was to be made. SO, we're getting a new electrical contractor. Speed of trust is faster than speed of sound and just as impossible to turn around. read more

Squires sent an electrician to get my apt. up to code and get some heat in my place. Andy has always been courteous in setting an appointment with me. Brandon (electrician) has my respect! He understood my concern and was so considerate to find the right solution in spite of all obstacles. BRAVO! He was so polite which is nice to see now a days. I recommend this company to everyone. Your crew came to my apartment yesterday, Wednesday 7/22 to replace a breaker box in a back bedroom. Your staff put a saw through my bathroom wall (measure twice cut once?!?) and left a huge dusty mess in both rooms. There is a sizable gap in the drywall above the new breaker box and completely unnecessary damage in my bathroom. You barely missed cutting up my canvas print out of sheer dumb luck. The crew then left without addressing the damage or the mess. Is this standard operating procedure? Is this how you treat people's homes? I would not recommend your service or hire you based on how my apartment looks today. Very disappointed. EDIT 8/21: At no point did Squires attempt to fix the damage or even apologize for treating my residence so poorly. Wish I could say they stepped up and took responsibility but that never happened. The electricians are very professional: their attire, vehicle, and most importantly, demeanor is very comforting. I've experienced a few sloppy - pull up in a beat up van - contractors. Pricing is competitive. The lady who answers the phone (Sheila?) is always very helpful. Spuires Electric started a small job in my suite 2 years ago, after repeatedly following up with them about coming back to finish the job, they refused stating they had no record of the job.The exchange was challenging and they offered no solution or resolution other then creating a new work order and billing for the job again. We had the pleasure of having Mike to our home today. We had a list of repairs that needed to be fixed and updated. He listened to our concerns and prioritized the repairs to be completed for the day. Mike kept his work areas clean and was very efficient. He replaced multiple outlets and switches, repaired light fixtures and restored power to our refrigerator and outside light . My husband thought he would update all our electrical outlets/switched to nice bright white receptacles and get rid of dingy beige. WOW, that was a bad idea. He blew our fuse box and we had no power in our kitchen. On the electrical panel was a sticker from Squires Electric from work they had done for the prior owner. They were close by so I dialed the 7 digits and I am sure glad I did. The technician they sent out was personable and knowledgeable. He explained how my husband had crossed wire connections causing the fuse blow - up. Consistent with other reviewers here - these guys are fine if things go smoothly. But if they mess up or don't do a great job - it's too bad for you - they are not going to make amends. We've hired Squires for about 4 projects over a 1-year period. 3 of them were fine. The last was when we learned about their integrity (or lack thereof). Had two wall outlets that failed. They sent an inexperienced electrician. On numerous occasions, he expressed how this was his first week and he was feeling out of his league and questioning why they sent him alone. If I had heard that - I would have sent him packing ... but it was one of my employees who only reported that later. We spent approximately $1000 for him flail around and open practically every outlet in the apartment to try to find this problem - then he mis-diagnosed the issue suggested a solution which would entail surface-mounting new wiring and a new outlet since he basically could not find the source of problem. Oh yea - here's a laugh-riot, they had to go to the local Ace store to find a toner (time that we paid for). A toner is a device that sends a signal through the wiring so another device (a receiver) allows you to listen for the tone and follow the wires behind the walls without having to tear open walls. A toner to an electrician is like a stethascope is to a doctor. You're an electrician - you have a toner. They send an electrician without proper tools then bill us for the time it takes to go to the Ace hardware store to pick up the tools. Finally they send an experienced guy who found the problem (wiring shorted in a j-box) in less than 20 minutes (yet they charged us for 3 hours) in addition to the entirely wasted time of the newbie electrician without proper tools. Frankly - they should have written off the time wasted by the new electrician as "education". Instead, they charged us a total of about $1300 to fix a very simple problem. Joe, the owner, made clear that they are not perfect but they try hard - yet he never acknowledged that they should credit us for a single minute of time and money that they wasted. Nobody gives a damn about your perfection or trying. Fairness and integrity is what matters. We get it - nobody's perfect ... but when you make a mistake, when you send an inexperienced guy and he can't figure it out - you don't stick your customer with your employee's "on-the-job-learning". You graciously say "we're sorry - our guy learned a lot here while you had to sit around and babysit all those hours ... we're not going to charge you for his time since it really was a waste ... and he accomplished nothing until the experienced guy showed up. Thanks for being a good repeat-customer". Instead - stuck us with the rediculous bill and lost us as a customer. As an added bonus, they got this review. read more

Contacted Squires to install a home 240v Electric Vehicle charging station. Made the appointment, got an estimate and when the day arrived, the tech called 15 minutes prior to the scheduled arrival time and then arrived. Pro #1 - The appointment was for 7:15am...not the standard "sometime between 8 and noon". And at 7:15am, the van pulled into the driveway. Pro #2 - He completed the installation exactly as I wanted it and everything worked (and is still working)! Pro #3 - The bill arrived and was as estimated and reasonable. Cons...? None! I will be calling them again next year to wire up our planned hot tub! read more

I will NEVER use this company again!!! The electricians were nice and on time. However the inspector found an issue after the work was done. It took multiple calls just to get the inspector scheduled. The scheduler was rude on top of it. It took multiple calls to get an appointment to get the issues fixed and in end the office took me off the schedule because I didn't return a confirmation call. When I requested to speak with the owner, I was told that I couldn't. I was told no one had personal voicemail in the office and the only way to get in touch with the owner was email. I'll be shocked if I get a response as the scheduler told me three different names for the owner. read more

Where the customer is always wrong. Here's a letter I just sent to their owner. I'd give them 0 stars but to be fair they did not perform the work so I can't judge them on that. To the owner Joe Squires, This morning I had an 9am appointment that I had made over a week ago for an estimate on the following: Updating 4 electrical sockets to GFI Potentially adding 2 indoor outlets, 2 outdoor (deck and detached garage) Also wanted a quote on wiring the living room for surround sound If all this went well we would be slowly having additional work done on our "new" 85 year old home that has been neglected. 9am came and went. At 10:10am I called to find out if someone was coming out. Mind you I am off this week moving into my new home. Also I work from home so I have a very flexible schedule and none of this work is an emergency so I'm not upset. The gal who answered the phone passed me to another gentleman (both apologetic and helpful) who mentioned you don't track schedules for estimates but would call your guys to see who it was - at the time I did not have my laptop so didn't know who I'd made the appointment with except Squires at 9am. Five minutes later Bill calls me us stating "I just walked in the office and not sure what's going on but they say you might have had an appointment with us." Came off as a little condescending right off, unlike the other folks I spoke to. I replied clearly, "I had an appointment at 9, no one showed." He asked with who and I mentioned I didn't have the name with me. Bill said is a super condescending tone "Well you might have had something but what do you need looked at." Right then I decided Squires Electrics was not for me. Anyone who talks down to a customer and can't just say "I don't know what happened. I'm sorry, when can we come out and take a look at the work." All he needed to do. I said "You know what, I had an appointment. No might about it. I'm going to pass and find an electrician who wants my business." I was still calm but very direct. Bill replies raising his voice a bit, "Oh sure from a guy who might have had an appointment, whatever..." I lost it a little, something I rarely do and even called him a SOB. Then hung up after mentioning I'd be sure to Yelp how helpful he was and he told me to "You go do that." I'm not sure about you but how often do you get "crank" calls from a customer who had a estimate lined up but it was a prank...and giving you my real address and phone number... It is ridiculous that Bill went on the defensive and tried to blame me to making up the appointment. Who does that? More likely an electrician who just walked in the office at 10:15am forgot he had an 9am appointment and was being a jerk instead of admitting his error. Which I didn't even care about but refuse to deal with companies that employ arrogant liars like Bill. I get home this evening and look at my calendar ' "Squires, 9am Thursday - Bill." Good old Bill. Makes complete sense that he blame me rather than just admit he slept in and forgot. You have a problem employee on your hands that needs an attitude adjustment. We had can lights installed by Jeremy and Mark and they did such a wonderful job! One of the concerns was having to cut into drywall that had a raised wallpaper feel to it and how difficult that would be to patch. Jeremy pull out the big guns and routed the cable through a very narrow opening, negating the drywall. We were stoked! Overall the guys were fast, thorough and professional. We have a new baby and Jeremy was very thoughtful in prep and clean-up to minimize any dust or paint particles that could impact him. Working with Squires Electric was an awful experience. They neglected 30% of the outlined workload on their first round of repairs. Portions of the work-order were left completely untouched. Their work failed to pass permit inspection multiple times, after being given authorization to make all necessary repairs. Communication with their office was poor. read more

We had our whole house re-wired. New service, new breaker box, replaced all of the knob and tube and added a dozen new outlets and fixtures. Squires was the best estimate. Hi. I used these guys again last week for a fixture replacement and for a look see of my panel. They informed me that my panel was beautiful and super safe and was grounded outside. I didn't even know what ground rods were, but when they showed me them, I was amazed. 6' long rods buried directly into the ground under my wife's azalea bushes. Who knew? Squires Electric knew. They also replaced a broken plug cover on my outside plugs. I didn't even know that was broken. read more

Apparently they are too busy and don't even want my business. I need a ceiling fan install on a vaulted ceiling along with a bath light/fan install; I called about a quote and was told an estimator would call me back. Laura called back a few hours later, indicating the estimators said they couldn't do my job. Thank you Laura ~ but Squires sucks. I have many upcoming electrical needs but I guess I don't qualify for the small jobs ~ small jobs well done lead to more business and potentially bigger jobs and/or referrals.
