I called them based on a recommendation from another subcontractor who was working on a project for me and claimed to have a good relationship with Bridgetown Electric. I needed an appointment to move an outlet in the backyard from one side of the yard to the other. First, they say they can't get me in the books for several weeks. Then when the guy does show up, he is unvaccinated, doesn't have a mask, and doesn't feel safe coming inside to evaluate the electrical needs. Fast forward, he comes back a 2nd time to continue "evaluating" - this time inside. He says he is confident that he can run a new wire to the backyard. He asks if I want him to cut the existing wire and I ask him if he is ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that he can run a new wire on the other side of the yard. He says yes he can, but he doesn't have the materials with him. He kills the live wire and says he will need to come back. Comes out a 3rd time and, OF COURSE, can't get the new wire up and running. I ask him to forget it, I'll just work with the old wire. He says he'll have to charge me additional $$$ to reinstall the wire he cut. At this point I decided to hire a different electrical company. All of this time and coordinating schedules to end up with more problems than when I started --they billed me over $900 which I find outrageous, given there was no solution in sight. I ended up hiring a different electrician to fix all of their errors, and run power to the other side of the yard (which was completed successfully). When I received the bill from Bridgetown, I called the office and spoke with Kevin, saying I have no issue paying for the time to come out and evaluate the property, but I refuse to pay for additional time due to their employee's incompetence. He said he would "look into it" and get back to me. Almost a year later and I receive the same exact bill asking for remittance of payment. Terrible communication. No official "quote" was ever formalized. I will be calling them, yet again, to attempt to resolve the above -- will update this post accordingly if they present any redeeming info. Update: I called and spoke with Travis. Sounds as if the employee who they sent to my house last year is no longer with the company. Travis was understanding and reasonable. I called Bridgetown Electric to get a quote for the cost of replacing a light switch. I was told that it would take about 20-30 min and that the electrician would provide me a quote before dong any work. The electrician came. Sat and fumbled with my switch and I asked how much it would cost. The electrician told me that I needed to have my house rewired and that he couldn't do it because he needed more parts. He said he would call me the next day. He left. Two days went by with no response. So I called Bridgetown Electric to see what was going on. The person I spoke too cussed me out on the phone. Said that they would never do something like that and then he hung up on me. So I called a different electrical company, who came out and had the whole switch fixed within 25 min! no rewiring. Then I get a bill from Bridgetown Electric for $210! Even though no work was done. It is a bill for parts (that I did not order nor ask to be ordered!). The bill from Bridgetown Electric was more than the bill from the other provider (who actually fixed the issue)! I have called Bridgetown Electric three times to get this resolved! No response. Their answering machine doesn't even go to their machine because it is full. What a way to run a business. I will be filing with the BBB and leaving this review on every site until I get a response and resolution from Bridgetown Electric. I will not be paying them for no services rendered. I called Bridgetown right away and they instantly booked the city to come out to figure out what needed to be done. The city gave them a list and they completed it in a timely manner. Dear Sirs:  I did state that it was a wall fan nevertheless your installer showed up with a ceiling fan.  He cut a hole in our wall to install a ceiling fan in our wall in width and length,  but he couldn't make the wall thicker so he said whoops I can't install it . . . Duhh! $736 for a wall fan they installed in the gapping hole they put in our wall. See pictute The current operating doorbell worked with the wiring in place. I didn't want batteries changed in the doorbell I waned the other doorbell put on those wires, but your installer gave up on installing the transformer and new doorbell together.   I was yelling from the bedroom to try and get ahold of the conversation instead of him talking to my wife but as I have MS and am trapped in a hospital bed no one was listening to me.  I wanted the new battery powered doorbell installed in place of the old one and hooked to the wires that currently worked with the doorbell by the front door.  Thank you for your time and help? Predators. Stay away from this company. They take advantage of the reality that you don't hire electricians very often. They use aggression to manipulate nice people into paying for no effort by pretending that they are a victim and completely burdened by the reality that you want them to, you know, be an electrician. Here is what a professional trades person does. They come out, look at the job and give you a bid. This is what these guys do. They act annoyed that you called, and when you ask around and find out how scary they are and call to cancel them even coming out to give you a bid, they send you a bill for hundreds of dollars. Don't pay the bill. You never hired them. It's a con. Remember overall, you never have to pay someone after the fact fro coming to give you a bid. If someone says up front, kind of common in landscapers, that you can pay them $60 for an hour of their time to come look at your project and give you a bid, that right there is something you agree to and can say yes or no to, that works. Landscapers tend to do this, to charge, to weed out people from taking advantage of them - happens a lot in their business. However, the plumber, the electrician, the roofer, the tiler, the window replacer - no. Also, if they come out and then try to charge you after the fact, that's a con. If you didn't agree up front, you are not obligated to pay the window salesman for coming out and bidding on the job, even if you don't buy them. This is common. So is over promising and under committing. Stay away from the person who promises the sky and doesn't put it in writing and starts eliminating the wonderful things they promised to do but then decided not to. Sure, it was the sky in the first place, so you might say, I understand, but remember, they promised the sky to get the job...they conned you. And if you give them an inch, it is common that they will take a mile. Time is a tough call for the trades folks, so it's sane to be flexible and adaptable to that reality - a really good contractor is going to need you to be flexible, but notice the distinction between a contractor who is being thorough vs disorganized or pushing you back because he got 50% deposit and nice guys finish last (illegal in CA, by the way, so HELLO PORTLAND! CATCH UP! Protect citizens from carpet baggers!). read more

Jerks! All I can say is these guys are jerks. I can't comment on how well these guys even do electrical work because I was never able to even get to that point! I would have loved to be able to support a local St. John's business. I was excited to see the building they occupy on Lombard getting spiffed up and remodelled since it was an eyesore before. But frankly, with their attitude, I don't know how they even have enough business to afford the remodel! Here's my story: It was easy enough to arrange an appointment for a relatively minor issue I had with some kitchen lighting wiring. We agreed over the phone that they would call me about a half an hour before they were to arrive on the day of the appointment so I could leave work and meet them there. Everything's fine up to this point. The appointment day arrives, the approximate time period they were shooting for arrives... and two hours later I still haven't received a call. I call their main office. The guy who I was talking to said they called me and left a voice mail. I said I didn't receive any calls, but who knows with cell phones, right? They asked me if someone was at the house because they spent a long time trying to get them to answer the door. The frustration in his voice was apparent. No one was supposed to be, but yes my girlfriend was home. So I asked if we could reschedule. Sounding very put out he replied that he needed to do scheduling later on that afternoon so he would have to get back to me. Fine. We hung up. I immediately called my girlfriend and got on her case about not answering the door. She said she was not feeling well enough to answer the door (which is why she was home when she shouldn't have been), but reminded me that that wasn't the agreement anyway. She and I talked it through. This was their screw up! Don't put the blame on her... they were supposed to call so I could meet them. And she was entirely right. What if the person who was home was my poor, sick, dying grandmother? For all Bridgetown Electric knew, it very well could have been. This is why people make plans and arrangements and why both parties need to stick to them. We agreed the right thing for them to do is make this right today. We had to get this done because our house was on the market to sell and we had people scheduled to come look at the house that weekend. I called Bridgetown Electric back. I explained I rechecked my phone and hadn't received any calls or voicemails, and they needed to make this right today and uphold their end of our agreement. Being caught in a lie, the guy obviously became angry. I still remember his exact words.. "You gotta answer the f&%king door!" I couldn't believe it! This guy was cussing ME out? I calmly explained that wasn't the agreement, my girlfriend wasn't even supposed to be there, and she was not able to answer the door. I continued and said if it's that much trouble for them to do the honorable thing, I'll just get someone else to do the work. "Why don't you do that?" he replied with disdain. And so I did. I hired them to replace my old electric panel. The electrician, Jonathan, was very good. It was a hard job because I needed a new ground wire so he needed to dig a trench for that. He was very fast but careful too. I really felt like he went above and beyond to make sure the job was done right. It was reasonably priced too. I highly recommend. read more

Bridgetown Electric was recommended to me by the carpenter who put in a window at our house, but I didn't have a very good experience with them. Keith looked over the scope of the job of rewiring half of our basement, plus replace the circuit breaker panel, and said he'd email a quote with a couple of options. I read the options as EITHER this price OR that price, depending on what was done. Imagine my surprise when I got the bill and it was for BOTH prices COMBINED. So instead of just under $2,000, the bill was for under $3,000. The misunderstanding was my fault, probably. But when I had called to confirm the job based on the amount of the estimate I was definitely talking about the $1,750.00 amount for the whole job, not a combined price, which I took to be either with or without the panel replacement. A second issue is that they don't seem to be great problem solvers. Part of the job was to connect floor warming wires (under ceramic tiles) to a wall mounted thermostat. Maybe Home Depot shouldn't be selling floor warming kits to DIY home owners like me. But I had verified continuity in the wires, and the Bridgetown guy checked it out too. He installed two different thermostats, new, out of the box, correct brand, and neither worked. He verified power to the thermostat, but there was, and is, no floor warming. And that's the way he left it. "I don't know why it's not working," was his analysis. I had had reservations about using a non-union shop. It might have made a difference in actually completing the work. But, you know, Nike, Nordstrom, in fact every company that can do so uses the cheapest foreign labor and materials. It seems as if consumers are schmucks who always must pay "American" prices for knock-off products, and labor. In short, paying a high price for so-called 'expert' labor like this, from Bridgetown, was not a good deal, in my experience. read more
