I'm leaving this review mainly for clarity for future clients, especially first-timers. Prior to my appointment, I was told pricing would be around $200-300 depending on design and time. I ended up paying over $700 total between a deposit, a card charge, and cash for three small finger tattoos. It was not clearly explained beforehand that the pricing was per tattoo rather than an overall estimate, which was confusing given the size and placement (these were finger tattoos, not a hand piece or larger work). The tattoos themselves are fine, but the process felt very confusing. There was also a misunderstanding regarding a cash payment that was initially assumed to be a tip, which added to the confusion. This was eventually corrected and refunded after I followed up, and I did receive receipts. Everything was ultimately resolved, but clearer communication around pricing and payment would have made this a much better experience. After shopping around Seattle, I found Dzul ink lounge through instagram and decided to book a consultation. I met with Thomas and described my ideas and visions for the project, and he was super professional and kind to me throughout the entire process. They were willing to work around my budget and figure out the coverup situation in a way that made it easy for me to understand and budget financially. Thomas provided the best consultation experience I've ever had by far, he is a great communicator and runs the front end of the shop very well. On the day of my tattoo, I showed up excited for my big day, and I got VIP treatment being the only appointment that day. My artist was Alex who is legitimately one of the MOST KIND people I've ever met. I could tell he brings years of experience and passion with him in his shop, and I felt completely comfortable and at ease through the entire experience. I had the best experience getting my nose pierced with Cata Dzul! From the moment I walked in, I felt completely at ease. Cata was knowledgeable, comforting, and we bonded immediately! She took the time to explain everything before, during, and after the piercing, making sure I knew exactly what to expect. She also recommended the best placement for my piercing while checking in with me to ensure I was happy with it. Loren was also amazing--she really inspired the type of nose ring I wanted and was super thorough in helping me pick the right one. I do wish they had a bigger selection of nose rings, but Loren's insights helped me find something I love. A Few Extra Details: Pricing: Piercing service was $70, and the ring I chose was $85-$90. Their aftercare products (cleaning spray/ointment) range from $10-$30, and they have them available for purchase in-store. My total with tip came out to about $230. Walk-In Experience: I arrived Tuesday at 4 PM PT with no appointment and only had one person ahead of me, so the wait wasn't bad at all. Clean & Professional: The shop was spotless, well-organized, and clearly run by a team that cares about their craft. Update in response to the owner's reply to my review (see my original review below): - I was not aggressive towards Nicole during the art review. You (Alex) were out of the shop on a 20 minute break while we met. If your Glassdoor reviews are any indication of how you treat your employees, of course Nicole would use the excuse that I was "aggressive" and therefore she made a scheduling error 2 weeks later. I simply asked if the second design was also finished and later sent an email that I would want to see the design first prior to starting the white out process. - I did not state that I wanted the "most minimal option" for my tattoo coverup. I have no idea what this means considering I provided specific reference photos of what I was seeking. I provided these same reference photos to another tattoo artist to rework the bird tattoo and only paid $320 instead of the $1200 - $1500 you quoted. There were never any price estimate revisions communicated to me. - My other Yelp reviews are irrelevant to my experience with your business, and it aligns with the other negative reviews from other customers that have worked with you. However, since you mentioned it.. in 15 years on Yelp, I've written 243 reviews. Only 25 (10%) have consisted of a 1-2 star rating. That hardly seems like a "lot" of negative reviews. The majority of those businesses that I have provided those ratings to have an overall rating of 2-3 stars (your business included). Which goes back to my point that my negative ratings align with experiences other customers have had. - I take full accountability for failing to research your business more extensively before I signed the contract and paid my deposits. Had I seen the reviews from others, I would have saved myself the headache that I inevitably encountered. However, the poor experiences that I described in my initial review along with email documentation to you expressing my poor experiences are what resulted in the bank siding in my favor and refunding my deposit when I disputed it. read more

From the detailed website to the consult/art review/ink session everyone paid close attention to what I'm looking for and adjusted as needed. These guys are definitely the best at coverups and white on black, using elite techniques and products. Alejandro is super talented in specialized techniques. The chair was mega comfortable (don't underestimate the importance of that when sitting for hours!) and Alejandro kept me informed and checked in throughout the process to ensure I was happy. They even sent me off with an aftercare kit. These people are true artists so if you want something beyond flash go here. Ohh.... no no no. You don't get to revise the story after the fact. Let me clarify for future readers: [I think what may have happened here was a lack of verbal clarity between designer and client.] Eyeroll. I guess so. But if so whose fault is that? It's your business. The onus of clarity is on you. Failing to do so can happen, sure. And when it does you need to make it right by issuing a refund. Keeping it after you've not been clear is deceitful. [However, we do require you to sign a policy form and we are very transparent about our process] I suppose that's true up until the point where you don't deliver the design as discussed for anywhere near the estimate agreed upon. And your solutions are (1) an alternate rinky-dink design or (2) an offer to make adjustments to get the art where the client believes it should be for yet another increase of fee. I guess it's true that you are clear about the refusal to give a refund even though you don't provide what you said you would when the deposit was made. [The reason why we operate like this is for maximum time-management, devoting personal attention to clients] Maybe you believe that prohibiting a client to even meet an artist ahead of time qualifies as "devoting personal attention" but, I tell you, it's just plan weird and feels like the exact OPPOSITE of personal attention. Especially when it gives your designer some odd sort of plausible deniability of blaming the pricing inflation on the artist- who the client is not allowed to speak to. [Along with this, you were given an opportunity to schedule an art review where you were able to make critiques to your design and take a different creative route with it that would lower the quote you were given] You mean the review where I was shown an oddball design and quote more than double the estimate? Okay, sure. The reality was that I was quoted one price based on a planned design. Then when I showed up the design wasn't even done. The designer was literally whipping it together while I waited. Then, it wasn't even really the design that had been discussed AND the price was hyper inflated. The proposed adjustment to get the original price was a tattoo 1/4 the size of the original and did not meet the intent of the original plan. It was a crappy, half-assed design nowhere near worth what any other shop would do for the original quote. [you were also given an opportunity to reject the pricing during the first consultation when the tattoo artist quoted you initially. We do not take refunds for the deposit since our designers have already worked on your custom tattoo design and spent many hours making sure that your tattoo would be unique. If the design was not what you had expected, we wish you would have let us know so we could have changed it for you during the consultation or art review.] Again. See above. Also... no way on God's green Earth did the designer spend hours on designing anything FOR ME. When I arrived the design wasn't even done. It wasn't properly sized, wasn't what was originally discussed, and it was, literally, a quick sketch up on an iPad. It seemed like some last-minute alteration of a previous existing design. Maybe you expect clients to be satisfied with that but no other shop in the city would try to make a client pay for the work done for someone else (but it sure is neat-o when you can bill multiple clients for the same work, amiright?) [Despite everything, we are very sorry that your experience with us was so negative. Terrible work. My design was passed around to several people who were not the tattoo artist, the guy was an hour late to my appointment, charged me $1K for an outline that he rushed through and you can tell by the lines. When I followed up with my concerns, they accepted no responsibility, I asked for at least my deposit back and got nothing. Would have rated zero stars if at all possible. I gave CLEAR instructions and my husband was a witness to this entire thing. Jacob was the one who did my shotty tattoo and now it's the biggest most obvious expensive mistake I could have made. Please don't go here. There are SO many other artists in the area that I wish I would have waited for. After reading more of the yelp reviews, it's painfully obvious that their M.O. is to not only NOT accept responsibility, but also to somehow turn it around on the paying customer. This is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable and if anyone knows how to go about getting them reviewed/shut down, please advise. I am totally on board to join against them.
