I found Finer Things online, looking for my 1st fine line tattoo. Zezi was very responsive and friendly when I reached out for information. This is my 1st tattoo so I had some questions. They didn't do a in person consult with me(maybe cause what I want is so small) and they don't have a phone # to talk to anyone. Zezi and I went back and forth through email for a bit about designs and placement and pricing. I was also very open to any ideas Zezi had for me. My questions were very simple since I wanted to know how this whole process works. I was ready to put a deposit down and reserve a date. The last question I asked her was " If for some weird reason I get there and I just don't like the designs we come up with, do I just lose my deposit"? I felt like this was a valid question, especially since I have no idea how this process works. Zezi responds with "With all the back and forth, I just don't think you're ready and I cannot move forward with you" Not sure why asking a question like that would make her not want to work with me, but I guess it offended her. I am also more then ready to get a tattoo and wasn't even looking to get this done until Oct/Nov. One of the other negative reviews I read on her was about the same as mine. I just feel like for the high price she quoted me for something that would take no longer then 20 min, I should've received a little better customer service. I know Zezi does amazing work, but I do feel like for first timers, Zezi is probably not the best. I'm writing this review to share my experience getting two tattoos from Zezi. To start, Zezi is undeniably a talented artist, and I do like the aesthetic of the first tattoo I received from her. However, the overall experience was challenging and unlike any other I've had with a tattoo artist. My first appointment was in December. As this wasn't my first tattoo, I expected a collaborative discussion about the design and placement, especially since I had questions about the longevity of my desired location for the tree design I wanted. Unfortunately, Zezi seemed resistant to discussing the design and my questions, giving the impression of being inflexible and even becoming visibly frustrated. This lack of open communication was quite upsetting during what should be an exciting process. I did take a break during this appointment to re-set emotionally. Ultimately, we proceeded with my original tree idea, and I'm glad we did as I love the final piece. Despite the difficult interaction, I decided to book a second appointment in February because I genuinely admired Zezi's artistic style, hoping that knowing what to expect of her demeanor would help. This appointment, however, was largely a repeat of the first in terms of communication issues, and ultimately more problematic. I had requested a chamomile flower and provided inspiration images beforehand. Upon arrival, Zezi had designed a flower, but it wasn't chamomile. Despite my efforts to communicate what I was looking for and find common ground, working with Zezi on the design was very difficult. I essentially had to re-design the tattoo myself during the appointment to get it closer to what I had initially requested. Honestly, I regret getting this second tattoo done by Zezi; I have since had it reworked by another artist. Based on my experiences, it seems Zezi's process works best if you either give her complete artistic freedom or come with an extremely precise, non-negotiable design. She appears to be quite rigid and the collaborative design process I've experienced with other artists was absent. Beyond the design challenges, I also found the pricing structure confusing. Zezi states her pricing is clear and transparent, but I did not find this to be the case. Charging hourly for what felt like very short, rushed appointments was unexpected. For the chamomile tattoo, having to redesign during the appointment led to increased costs, even though the final design reflected my initial request. Additionally, there was a separate $200 "design fee" which I've never encountered before; typically, design work is included within the overall tattoo price. For contrast, I've since been getting tattooed at Fine Studio in Seattle, and the experience has been wonderful. They are highly collaborative, completely transparent about pricing, and allocate ample time for design discussion and adjustments. They foster an environment where you feel comfortable discussing your ideas and making changes without feeling like a burden. In summary, while Zezi is a skilled artist, be prepared for a potentially difficult and non-collaborative design process and ensure you fully understand the pricing breakdown beforehand. If you value open communication and collaboration in your tattoo experience, you might want to consider other artists. Updated June 2025: Zezi called me after I posted a Google review to ask me what she could do to make it better. I followed up a few weeks later to ask for a refund for the design fee and additional time spent (not the base price), since I ended up having to redesign the tattoo to be a chamomile. My request was declined. It's very difficult to raise a complaint during an appointment like this, especially after the experience I had with my first appointment (feeling like I was being yelled at, and needing to take a break when I started to cry). I've been following her work and decided to schedule my tattoo with Zizi (owner of Finer Things Tattoo) to commemorate a camping and hiking trip to Alaska. The booking process easy, and straightforward. The consultation at the beginning of the appointment was great - she has the design ready for me to see and open to edits - I didn't make any, love the design as created. The consultation also included placement and things to think about on the placement. The studio is very clean, minimalist aesthetic. And, unlike my first tattoo in Texas she showed me the needles in closed, sanitary packaging - along with the expiration date on each. This was my first tattoo experience, so though a lot of this was my own lack of research/understanding of the process, I was not completely satisfied with how my session with Zezi went. I submitted an inquiry with a list of key features, and allowed for in-between levels of flexibility with design. I asked for a Western red cedar tree with sword ferns at the base and a hinge-box style birdhouse further up the tree. When I got there, the design did not include the majority of the features I listed. It was a completely different tree with a different style of bird house, and no sword ferns at the base. I should've ticked the "strictly like reference" option, but it was hard to tell how much flexibility was implied by the options listed on the form. I wish there were more back-and-forth questions about the design before the session, but there was no communication aside from scheduling/initial intake. She completely redesigned the tattoo in 20 minutes, but it should be noted that she just pulled from previous designs and photoshopped it into something that resembled what I wanted. For all future customers, just know that the custom design free does not entail a custom-drawn piece, it's just Zezi photoshopping elements together into your tattoo, and then free handing it in her style as she tattoos you. You will not know exactly what you're getting until the tattoo is already on your skin. The tattoo was done on the inner side of my left bicep. The actual tattoo didn't hurt, but the position she had me in + the way she pressed on my arm while drawing caused me to lose circulation to my hand. I was going completely numb every 10 minutes, and I needed to take a lot of breaks. I understand that this road block is annoying for any artist, but I wish she was more patient with my body's needs. I didn't feel like I had the liberty to ask for more accommodations; I noticed her getting more and more frustrated every time I moved or asked for a break, so I just powered through while completely losing feeling to my hand for 30 minutes at a time. I worry for any customers who have special health needs -- there was a point where I asked for a break and she just powered through for an additional 5 minutes despite my request, which was unprofessional. If I had any special health conditions/diseases that I forgot to mention, this could have been a major incident. I put a lot of thought and meaning behind the tattoo. She did ask me why I chose this tattoo in the beginning, and I gave a vague response intending to talk more during the session. However, she seemed very keen on getting this tattoo done efficiently and under a time limit without talking. If you are the type of client that would like to have a meaningful conversation about the tattoo as it's getting done, I would recommend seeking other artists. The tattoo itself is beautiful, and visually, l enjoy it very much. Zezi is still an incredibly talented artist and does good work. But, this process makes it feel bittersweet. I understand that allowing too much flexibility with the design was my fault, and I also understand not wanting to share designs for copyright reasons. But, my upset could've been avoided if she was more attentive/collaborative in her design process, or further described what flexibility means on the intake form. I feel her process is not great for first timers, especially if your tattoo has a lot of meaning behind it or has a challenging placement that requires patience/additional personal health flexibility. I would only recommend Zezi to experienced tattoo folks who enjoy giving the artist complete liberty over the request, and don't have any special needs when it comes to tattoos. read more
