Bunky Osyter is no artist, she is a scammer. Long story short, I created this small geometric design myself and booked an appt with Bunky Oyster and submitted my $100 deposits on 8/16/2022. Next week, she told me this one hour long tattoo session will cost me $500, cuz she charged by pieces. *** Unless her hourly rate is $500/hr, I don't see how it is possible for such small piece of tattoo will cost $500 before tip. Especially my design doesn't even require any of her drawing and creativity. Same date , I told her I am no longer pursuing a tattoo appt with her and I would like to cancel the appt for 9/8/2022 (the appt was cancelled 2 weeks prior to the actual date), then she refused to refund my deposit. Your website says 48 hours prior to appt notice for rescheduling/ cancellation or deposit is subject to be forfeited. I cancelled my appt more than 2 week, which was because Bunky Oyster was trying to up charge me by 4 times of the market price, and she refused to refund my deposit. Today I completed the exact same design for $180 w tips, and the session was completed within an hour. First, I rarely write reviews - good or bad. But I think my experience is important to share for folks, since the nature of tattoos is permanent, collaborative and creative as well as personal. I found my artist via Instagram, and in their posts shared they were open to doing cover-ups and had some dope examples of previous work. We did a consult for about 30-40 minutes and I felt really excited and heard during the conversation. I shared I wanted to cover my friend's name, but that too if we could improve the peony above it that would be great. BUT my hope was that the name would be covered in the first session, and following sessions could be used to add to. I wasn't expecting perfection or it to be completely "brand new" looking - just improved and covered. The artist agreed and we made an appointment for about 3 weeks later. Appointment day comes. Everybody at the shop was welcoming and chill, I meet with my artist and I'm looking forward to getting the name finally covered up. As this is my first cover up, I trusted my artist with the process. So when they weren't really set up yet it didn't bother me. Eventually we found a spot to set up at and I sat down. Another positive is that she shop seems incredibly clean, and my artist showed me clean equipment and made me feel bodily safe. The reason for my pause here is that it became clear to me that the artist wasn't remotely prepared. Like, I get it: a cover-up is difficult and requires a lot of creativity and flexibility. But they didn't even know what I wanted. It's like they totally forgot. They couldn't even pull up my reference pictures/email. That was a red flag that I should have spoken up for, but I felt like it was just maybe an off day and their work really spoke for itself. Instead of a stencil or sketch or any idea ready, they started using sharpie to draw on my skin directly - again, the drawing on is fine, I've had that done on my elbow before and other tougher body parts, but previous artists had shared the design idea with me prior. This artist sketched and wiped it off for about 1.5 - 2 hours. My skin was super irritated and I was losing confidence. This is the point at which I should have 100% had just called it and maybe rescheduled or found another artist. But I didn't...I sat there hopeful and feeling like I should just be more flexible about it. The artist had drawn on the name, but mostly on the flower above. I asked is the name going to be covered and the artist affirmed. Eventually they started - and again, they are a really nice person and great conversationalist, were respectful of my pain tolerance, and was generally nice to be around. But I get tattooed for the work, not the experience. And the work is not great. Not the worst, but definitely not we agreed to or reflective of their other work. And I think it about about $400. Not only did they not have a design ready, but they went off of areas they had drawn on and then didn't even touch the name I'd gone there to cover (which was drawn over, so I assumed would be done). The lines are incredibly thick, the black in the flower is intense and imbalanced and some of the top now crowds by buffalo piece. My whole leg just looks off balance now, and I get comments about how dark it is often. Another artist at different shop even said it had "scarred" and that he assumed an apprentice/inexperienced tattooer had done it. I've included some reference pictures I sent the artist, the before, and the result from going to Artful Dodger. I tried to reach out to the artist a few times to schedule another session, even though I wasn't happy with the product but wasn't able to. I also emailed the shop manager and they stood behind the artist's work and were pretty patronizing about "how coverups work" and that you "can't have an exact reference" (which I never asked for). So, not helpful. Definitely my least favorite tattoo I have (of about 20?). Maybe other artists are better, and the shop is definitely an overall good vibe and clean, but overall I can't recommend it and will go elsewhere in the future. read more

Michael did an amazing job on my forearm piece. It is a cover up and still has one session left to really get it completely covered, but I am in love with it. I cant stop looking at my arm and smiling! I used to purposely hide the ugly tattoo that was there, never wore short sleeves, but now I want to make sure it can always be seen because it is so beautiful! I let him take the creative reigns with my ideas and he went above and beyond. He was super easy to talk with and it wasnt uncomfortable when it was silent (which, if youre like me, is something you worry about when getting things like this done) The location was new for me since they used to be closer to Denny, but its an awesome place, super clean and really really nice inside. I was visiting Seattle and felt impulsive and wanted to get a matching tattoo with my boyfriend. To be fair, we had been thinking of doing this for months but on that particular day we wanted to actually get it done. So we stopped by this place, asked if they had availability and we were happy to hear they had time! The girl working at the front desk was very sweet. I was nervous because this was my first tattoo and she made me feel at ease. My boyfriend & I were assigned Ed as our artist. Let me start off by saying my tattoo is tiny so I wasn't super picky on who my tattoo artist was because I figured it would be pretty hard to screw up a small letter "J". So, for the tattoo itself, it's fine. I mean I would have preferred for it to be smaller and thinner, and when I look closer at the tattoo, it seems a little wonky. Also, my tattoo is bigger than my boyfriend's tattoo, which is pretty lame. BUT ALL IN ALL, I'm fine with it. Like I said, it's a tiny tattoo on my inner forearm so whatever. This review is more geared towards Ed and his hospitality (or lack there of). He knew this was our first tattoo but he didn't do much to make us feel comfortable or at ease. When I asked him if he could make the J smaller, he basically just said no even though I had a feeling it could be smaller. I had seen pictures of smaller tattoos, but whatever. He seemed completely disinterested in doing the tattoo and he came off as a jerk a lot of times. I wanted to record myself getting the tattoo and he threw a fit over it. He ended up letting me do it, but it was pretty awkward and honestly if I was getting a bigger tattoo, I would have walked out. His energy was bad and I was about to tattoo something permanent to my body. He didn't make me feel comfortable but again, it was just a J and I figured it would be fine (which it was). I put my purse on the floor nearby him and he borderline scolded me and told me to put it somewhere else because he likes to keep his area clean. He scoffed at my tattoo a couple of times and when he was finished he said "Here's your candy cane!" in a sarcastic way which annoyed me because in my first-time-tattooer-panicked-state I started to think it ONLY looked like a candy cane. The tattooing process itself was less than a minute and it was relatively painless. Or, not painless, but much less painful than I thought it would be. All in all, my tattoo is fine. It could be better but whatever. He may be a talented artist, but his attitude doesn't make me feel comfortable and I wouldn't trust him doing anything larger on my body. His bad attitude adds to the nostalgia of this memory. "Aw, remember when we got matching tattoos in Seattle with that guy that hated the idea of giving us the tattoo?" But if you're not looking for this type of nostalgia or if you're looking for a tattoo that's larger than a fraction of an inch, I'd go somewhere else. read more

I got a tattoo by Ed Learner that has a really bad blow-out "halo", the lettering is splotchy, and the lines are very uneven (see photo. This was taken months after healing). Nothing even close to an apology or any hint of taking any responsibility came out of his mouth. His only sentiment was "you knew the risks". Actually, its not about risk, its about incompetence. Ask any other tattoo artist. Its been explained to me multiple times at this point by multiple artists that that is about going too deep, and probably also about going too fast and using the wrong needle for an area with thinner skin like the inner arm. He also made it really clear that he was annoyed that my best friend was coming to join me at the appointment (that tattoo represents him, and Ed knew that) and told me I can't have a friend come hold my hand. Uh...thanks for the assumption but I don't need any handholding, I just wanted him present, after all the tattoo is about him (even if I did want that, why be a rude jerk?). Ed also made it clear that he was annoyed that this wasn't much of an art project and was boring for him. Sorry, I'm the one wearing it forever and I wanted simple and clean (HA! Joke is on me. Literally.). I didn't realize it was about your entertainment. If you want a tattoo that looks worse than any prison tattoo you've ever seen, and a rude, arrogant, and self-excusing attitude to go with it, you should definitely go see Ed Learner. read more

This review is based on my experience with Leo. When I originally came here I was hoping to get a tattoo by Lucky due to all the amazing things I hear about him. Due to my walk-in, I was unable to have Lucky do it, but Leo was kind enough to do my tattoo. I was a little nervous due to one of the reviews about Leo on here, but I was quickly shown otherwise. Leo was very friendly, he's a very talented artist and I would definitely return to him. This is the only tattoo I have ever had that healed perfectly! From what I hear, a tattoo that doesn't scab is one that was done by a fantastic tattoo artist (that and proper aftercare of course.) I plan to use my tax return to get three more tattoo's here. The artful dodger is now the ONLY place I will get a tattoo and they can always expect a big tip from me. Where do I even begin? A friend of mine had been tattooed by Jon and spoke very highly of him, and before he relocated to California I was able to finally get on his books for an incredible 90's Nickelodeon piece on my leg. In his absence, my boyfriend and I made a trip in during the Friday the 13th weekend where I ended up getting tattooed by Taylor. Quiet, but wonderful human who was more than happy to add a pop of purple to my tattoo. Fast forward to Jon being back from California, and I ask about a cover up from a not so great period of time in my life. After talking about it, he even squeezed me in the same day for a memorial tattoo for my Pa. He sent me rough sketches of the cover up along the way and answered all the questions I had. We've got one more session to go but it's been the best experience. I've even been tattooed by Bunky, when she was still an apprentice and she was so, so sweet. I just never want to interrupt while she's tattooing! Overall, Artful Dodger is an INCREDIBLE shop with incredible people. Over the process of this cover up, other artists have offered words of encouragement, told me I'm a trooper (it's in a super painful spot), and have helped me laugh along the way. Let me preface this review by saying that I have five tattoos, all of which are not visible while I'm wearing a shirt. So, everytime I walk into a new studio, I'm treated like a noob. A noob that's a girl. Quite often, the reaction is reluctant acceptance. I've been to The Artful Dodger three times now, and every time it's been a fantastic experience. Unlike so many other places I've walked into, the people here don't treat me like I'm an unwelcome addition to a club. My first experience was with Glascock, who gave me an amazing piece on my left side. I came in with a picture, asked for a couple of modifications, and he came back with something that I, literally, look at everyday in the mirror and smile at. My second experience was with Vlad, who pierced my eyebrow. All I can say is that it was clean and painless. Unfortunately, I was unattentive and it got infected to the point that my entire eye was puffy, so I had to take it out. However, it was lovely while it lasted. My third, and most recent experience, was with Leo for my other side. My experience with Leo was great, but especially so because this was my first tattoo that I did not have a picture for. I gave him a vague idea of what I was looking for, and he created something beautiful for me. We tweaked it a little together, and by the end I could have cried, and not just because a sadist had just stuck me with needle for four hours. This place is great not just because they do great work, but because everyone there is a great team and really make the place feel welcome. Tattooing is becoming increasingly mainstream, but so many studios are ridiculously judgmental. Also, their coffee table is a giant Sherlock Holmes book. read more

Came here yesterday to get a Valkyrie lady on my left thigh, and just like my last visit, I left sooooo happy!! Both times here I got my ink from Alivia. From a previous post I mentioned that she is just an overall chill, nice, and super cool person, but now I can sing it from the rooftops! She has always been super easy to contact and this last experience was no different. I did not see my tattoo sketch until I came in to get it done, but if you've seen her work (seriously, go check out her Instagram!) you know she has mad skills with lady figures! She probably has one of the gentlest, if not THEE gentlest touch ever, as I got my work done super fast and with little pain. I'm not going to lie, all tattoos hurt, but she makes the experience so easy! Like always, Artful Dodger is always super clean, with really friendly staff!! I love coming in a little early so I can check out all their comics and cool nerd stuff!!! Plus, they recently added arcade games to the floor!! WHAT?!! Got to play old school King Kong and Big Bucks World! Came to find out that I have a pitiful shot... Anyways, I'm so happy with this place! Amazing atmosphere, genuinely nice people, killer art skills, and just good old fashioned great customer service. After hearing some good things about this place from a friend of mine, I decided to call to schedule an appointment with someone who can give me a good tat. Immediately as I called a woman answered the phone. She was very rushy and definitely kind of rude. She told me I would have to email and gave me no more information except that a dude named Kory might be able to give me what I want. I emailed kory that day and didn't hear from him for a while, which was okay because I'm sure he's busy. Eventually he responded and we set up a consultation. Sadly, again, he was very rushed and sort of rude. He asked me to send him an email to show a picture of what I wanted so he could get back to quick about if he could do it or not. After several days I messaged him again to see if he got the emails. Then that afternoon he sent me a very rude response and said it's a privilege for him to tattoo me and that I need to be more patient. On the phone he was also very rude and unkind. He has terrible customer service skills. The front desk also misrepresented the cost of the shop per hour, just to get me interested. The woman told me the shop charges roughly half what they actually charge and I made her verify that multiple times. Then when I mentioned it to kory he rudely told me that I'm stupid and I just not have been paying attention because they charge double what I was told. Overall, this shop is a terrible experience in my opinion. I would never recommend going here or to Kory for a tattoo, unless you enjoy being browbeaten unforgivingly and treated like you don't matter. I was SO EXCITED to get a tattoo here while I was visiting Seattle. I sat down with Lonnie and we came up with a simple Venus symbol with pink/purple/blue coloring. Within hours is was apparent the line work was iffy, but I had faith. 3 months later and it looks horrible. This is not my first tattoo, I followed aftercare instructions perfectly, had some minimal scabbing, and I'm very disappointed. What I thought would be some minor touch ups needed as turned into having the whole tattoo redone. I'm really upset and now I'm hesitant to ever get a tattoo done by a shop out of state, since I cannot return and have another artist fix my work or have Lonnie fix it. read more

He is a great person and makes sure to employ only the best artists, not just artistically but professionally as well. For me, a tattoo is a package deal. Not only do you leave a shop with a tattoo you will have the rest of your life, but the memory of receiving the tattoo will also stay with you your whole life. To be honest, I don't want to sit with an unbearable artist for 6 hours. ADT has the loveliest of artists that are great company and treat you with respect. I've been to this place for my first tattoo, my third and my latest one and have had the pleasure of working with the talented Michael Glascock. Time and time again, his work has been phenomenal. Not just with the tattoo process, but with his art style and the way he treats his clients are top notch. He makes you feel comfortable and has the most amazing stories to tell; it helps a lot with the pain and not to mention he really does care for his clients I remember a session I went to for my latest tattoo; I hadn't eaten and was rushing into my appointment. He was not only understanding of me being late, but even instructed me to go back out and get something in my system as the food would help my body cope more with the pain. This dude is FILLED with knowledge, and really does care more about just the tattoo he's working on. I hadn't had a new tattoo in over 7 years and even then none of them were in Seattle! So when my new Scottish friend said he'd front me a tattoo as long as it incorporated the Scottish flag (and vice versa with my flag on him) I jumped on the opportunity. A spontaneous tattoo is just what I needed. He let me draw out the ideas and pick the artists/shop. Since I hadn't gotten a tattoo in Seattle yet i really didn't know first hand who to go to. BUT I had heard of lucky and artful and despite all of my great recommendations to loads of shops my instincts told me artful so that's where we went. Lucky was of course booked but I was graciously introduced to Delaney and Leo by the front man who greeted me and heard my plea. I needed two tattoos done by monday (a day and a half away) with assistance and touch ups to the original drawings. They were totally different styles and the second tattoo hadn't even really been a concept yet. Both artists were patient, welcoming and had killer attitudes which I believe translates in one's work. By monday, despite my friend be -ahem- asleep when our appointment was suppose start, Leo and Delaney patiently waited for our arrival and dove right into our concepts sans guilt-trip. The whole experience was a huge laugh and the art turned out fantastic. I absolutely recommend Delaney and Leo and from the sound of the review everyone else at artful. Do you ever, like, walk up to a place that seems open but there are a few people sitting outside of what appears to be the entrance on barstools and it seems like maybe they're checking ID or they're taking a cover charge but then it turns out they're just sitting there and the area behind them looks like a terrifying haunted house, but like a real one like some former mental hospital with a bunch of angry ghosts and they're just like, "Hey" and you're all, "Hey... is this place open?" and they're like, "Yeah, go on in..." and you're like, "Uh, are you sure, because why does it look like that, and what are you guys doing out here, and is this a trick?" and they're like, "No, we're just sitting out here" and so you go past them and you think you might get murdered but then it's just like, regular? That's what happened to me when I went to the Artful Dodger's Evolve Piercing to get a new labret stud since I'd just been screwing around with my old one and lost the ball to it (either it's under the couch or I ate it on accident, I don't know). Sweets and I were at Than Bros and I thought, hey, let's just stop by this place that is probably open and I'll get another one. Once we got inside, it was super bright and there were two friendly people behind the counter. I told them what I needed and they told me what they had, one of them explaining my choices in depth and why he preferred one over the other. I actually learned something and, although I ended up getting the other kind for aesthetic reasons, I felt pretty comfortable with what they'd told me and reasoned that if they cared that much about their jewelry, neither choice was likely a bad one. They rinsed it off for me and gave it to me in a little bag and I was done. I took off a star because the prices seemed a little high, though not outrageous, and I felt a little awkward toward the end of the transaction asking to see other sizes of things - it seemed like the woman who worked there had an idea of what I wanted and repeatedly attempted to just grab something and put it in a bag of cleaning solution without me even seeing it. I didn't ask the price and they didn't offer and by the time they were ringing me up it seemed too late to decide whether I wanted to order the jewelry online for much less. However, I'm sure this was just one of those weird cosmic sandwich things and not a reflection of the way things are there all the time. Overall, I would feel super comfortable getting a piercing here and I'd suggest it to friends looking for a place to go. read more

I came in randomly one day and got tattooed by Alicia - she did an amazing job, was super quick, and extremely reasonable with pricing. Plus, she totally understands that a client doesn't usually want to have their ear talked off while being tattooed, nor does she bother asking "What does this tattoo mean to you?" or similar off-putting questions that I've been asked by previous artists. My friend got tattooed by Delaney at the same time and had nothing but positive things to say about her session & about Delaney as an artist. A few months later, I called the shop and was able to get another same-day sitting with Alicia. Again, another pretty simple, straightforward piece (both took ~1 hour) . . . and, like before, she was extremely professional, talented, focused, and reasonable. I also had my septum pierced by Chris here & it was a dream - smooth procedure, sweet guy, and flawless healing. I came back in a few months later to have him change the jewelry for me & ended up changing the jewelry for other piercings because he was so knowledgeable. read more

Came in on Friday the 13th during lunch with a friend to partake of the lucky 13 tattoo offerings. I was warmly welcomed, treated kindly, and left a very happy (hopefully repeat) customer. The shop is professional, the artists are talented, the price was very reasonable for the large custom flash collection to choose from (drawn by the resident artists). Hygiene and safety are obviously very important here and I feel very confident in recommending them. I sat with Lucky and he's very professional, great to talk with, interesting, funny, and has a great touch. He obviously takes great pride in his work and it's completely warranted. He answered my questions readily, listened to my requests, and made sure that the design was perfect. I wish everyone I work with was this communicative and professional. His collectables are numerous and plentiful ... great to look at / talk about while you're getting your work. Lucky's a huge Joss Whedon fan too, which was a joy to this humble browncoat! As with so many other tattoo parlors the shop is "cash-only" but they provide an ATM right in the shop if you don't have cash on hand. There is a $3 convenience fee at this ATM so you may want to hit your bank's before you come. Bottom line ... great place to get a tattoo!! read more

I am fairly new to the area and there are quite a few tattoos shops around so I wasn't sure where to go. I went to see Lucky at Artful Dodger Tattoo based on a friend's recommendation (this friend happens to be a graphic artist so I definitely trusted his opinion). I was pretty nervous, this was only my second tattoo and the other one I have was from years ago so I initially just went in for a consult. I brought in a picture of the concept I wanted and he was super excited and had so many great ideas on how to perfect it. A couple of days later he showed me the picture of what he drew up and I was blown away. What he drew up was so beautiful and detailed and it was better than I could have even imagined the concept in my head. When I came in to actually start I was pretty nervous, but everyone at the shop is so nice. A lot of tattoo shops have this air about them where you feel intimidated or out of place, but this place has such a relaxed atmosphere I felt really comfortable from the start. Let's face it tattoos aren't exactly fun to get, but Lucky made the process as comfortable as it could be. He had a really good hand and asked me questions about my comfort level and my opinions on certain aspects of the tattoo. He really wanted to make sure it had what I wanted, but also offered his suggestions about what would look best. He also talked to me throughout the session which really helped take my mind off of getting the tattoo. I have to go back to finish my tattoo, but so far it is absolutely incredible. Lucky went above and beyond what I asked for and he really took the time to make it stand out - he even stayed hours beyond when the shop was supposed to be closed to make it look amazingly detailed! He has an incredible book of work full of different styles, and is also just a down to earth super nice guy. This is the BEST tattoo shop EVER. When I decided I wanted my first tattoo, I did research. I looked for hours online reading reviews, looking at portfolios trying to find the best shop. For my first tattoo I wanted a full back piece, so this was a big deal. My search literally turned into a two year long search. I met up with other artists, had consolation appointments and realized they couldn't do what I wanted. I wasn't vague either. I brought in 20 pictures of tattoos with the parts I liked circled with green and the parts I didn't like circled with red. I was very specific and detail oriented. I was going to be picky. I finally stumbled upon Artful Dodger and Lucky. We had a consolation appointment and I immediately realized he could give me my dream tattoo! He was very easy to get along with and positive. All the other artists seemed annoyed I was being so specific and brought so many pictures. Lucky seemed to appreciate it. He spent hours talking and free hand drawing my entire tattoo. 58 hours of tattoo work later( many many sessions). I had the most awesome full back piece, it was so much better and gorgeous than I even thought was possible. Since that I have gotten a couple more tattoos from lucky and plan on getting more in the near future. I will only go to lucky. I highly recommend Luck to anybody wanting a awesome tattoo. Lucky has a unique ability to tattoo in any style, and another unique ability to understand was his clients want and fulfill their needs. The entire shop is huge, and full of other great people. I never fell awkward or uncomfortable when I am visiting and I always end up having fun. I really can not say one bad thing about this place... and I could go on and on about how amazing Artful Dodger is. I am 100% sure I annoy people with my non stop raving about this place when a friend brings up a good tattoo place, I am such a fan of The Artful Dodger I just wont shut up. Awesome shop to get tattooed in, wonderful vibe with a great staff that isn't pretentious or clueless, which seems to be all too common these days. I have wanted a tattoo since I was 17, but I have a needle phobia. Like serious-as-a-heart-attack nasty fear. I have freaked nurses and doctors out by going into shock, passing out, having convulsions, you name it. But for my 46th birthday, I was DETERMINED. I gave a picture to Berger, who would be doing my tattoo, and explained that I wanted a luna moth, not heavily stylized, but pretty true-to-form. He was SPOT ON. His art was perfect. I wondered how it would transfer to my skin. He handled my fear fairly nonchalantly, so I couldn't get caught up in my head. "You'll be fine. Let me know if you need a break," he said. He was right; I was fine, and the time went by quickly. Sure, it hurt, but it wasn't even a fraction as painful as a wax. I would do this again in a heartbeat. I probably will. I have sensitive skin, but my beautiful tattoo healed quickly. In fact, it didn't even itch until 4-5 days later while I was on vacation in New Orleans. It was hard not to keep it covered and out of the sun. I got so many compliments on my vacation, people asking where I had it done. One person asked if it was REAL. Thank you so much, Berger!!
