This store started weird and stayed weird. I have real respect for that because I am not sure how I would cope with seeing reality crowded by another cheeseball franchise. So instead of a canned vinyl franchise that would probably only sell reissues, Long Beach gets blessed with Dyzzy. The inside of the store would startle anyone expecting normalcy, feng shui, or design principles. Let's call the interior of this place a wholehearted effort at punk decor with a tad of college dorm aesthetic for good measure. A large poster depicting Senator John Blutarsky taking a healthy swig of whiskey adorns the far right room where a drum setup and the bulk of the vinyl sit. A crocheted version of Murphy's Law(s) really tied that room together in my opinion. What else would balance out a pinata of a giant pink donut with sprinkles? The main entry room sustains the offbeat motif. I saw at least one manifestly wacky KISS doll, crates covered in paint, and several intense pieces of Pittsburgh Steelers memorabilia. A listening station and a mini fridge composed the other main fixtures of this room. Kevin, the owner, definitely self presented as the designer of this fine establishment. He spun O'Jays records, cracked goofy jokes, and hobnobbed with the two other customers in the store--who happened to be on roller skates. I managed to dig out a few quality soul, pop, and disco records in the other while Kevin carried on with the two ladies on roller skates in the main room. After I made my way back to the register, Kevin offered everybody a freebie shot of vodka. The man did not leave me hanging; Kevin had a drink with me, and I was on my way. read more

This is one of the most eclectic record shops I've seen. I know that's a crazy statement because there are some interesting shops out there, but this place takes the cake. I seriously can't figure out how they host live music in the tiny store but I'd love to attend a show! The records are not as organized as well as I like, but there are so many that you can't go trough the majority of them. I got three used records and was thinking that they were not in great shape, but after cleaning them up, they play flawlessly. There are also a lot of CDs and I think I saw some laserdiscs and maybe some cassette tapes. Great little shopping experience!! Get out and support your local record store!! read more

Dyzzy on Vynyl is so jam-packed with records you may be there for hours without finding that ultimate gem of the day. Look high and low for records that may or may not be sleeved. They may or may not be in great shape. It's that kind of store. CDs also available in a variety of genres. Some cassette tapes & 8-tracks, but... nevermind, I'll keep my mouth shut because it's MUSIC. Another patron was searching for posters. They aren't selling those right now (3.30.18). Dyzzy is super helpful if you have questions. He may go on tangents, but hell I don't care. Not only is he Associate Professor of the small shop but also Dean of the School of Vinyl/Vynyl. Dizzy on Vinyl I'd go here again because this is where I picked up both Eagle's Hotel California and Blue Oyster Cult's Agents of Fortune album for under $10. This place is nothing like your retro row 4th street shops in LB, where vinyls are a small portion of the store's shopping mix. Dizzy on Vinyl is a small 3 room portioned shop devoted to record vinyls. What sets this place apart from Fingerprints is the price range & amount of record hunting. It's cheaper and there's tons of used vinyls to go through. It is a small corner shop and after being there for a while the smell of used records does get to you. If you're looking for a change in setting from Fingerprints this would be the spot, for more serious record junkies. Parking do it in the neighborhoods. That's all I gotta say about that. The owner at the time didn't have enough change to break my money so I charged it on my card. This place has a lot of character. You won't regret going here. yadadada. read more

I had an uncle I used to hunt with often. He was short, or "saw-ed off" as my dad would say. When my uncle would walk in the door, metal coffee cup in hand. My father would often say, endearingly, "There's Jeff. 10 pounds of shit, in a 5 pound bag." Now, if you aren't a Texan, this comes off as an insult. What it truly means is, how did they pack a big man, in such a little package? This is Dizzy on Vinyl. A two room record store that deserves more space. Yet, if there was more elbow room, you might take it for granted. I packed my hands with 45's. All in excellent condition. Waylon Jennings, The Motels, Connie Francis, etc. I didn't even ask the price. You know why? Because the guy at the front counter had the inventory priced in his head. That's might kind of record store. Pet a dog, buy an album, but don't touch the drums. read more

Love this place. A real Long Beach Classic. All older music. Mostly rock and some weird pop stuff from the 70's and 80's too. A few times I've seen some stuff from the early 00's but if that's what you're looking for, this isn't your place. Prices are great. The place used to be a real steal when the inventory was a lot larger and it was really more of a dig spot. The store definitely still offers that feel and prices that accompany it but don't expect to walk away with fifty records and out thirty dollars. As far as the service goes, it's great. Dyzzy is a cool dude. Really helpful and knows his stuff. In all the times I've been to this place over the years I've never had a negative experience. A number of years ago, this shop had a room that was full of dollar records (there were a few otherwise marked). It was amazing. In all the stores I've ever been to, this room was the best dig spot ever. Unfortunately, the room was renovated to host local shows. If you're reading this and remember what I'm talking about please bring this up in reviews or the next time you visit. This room needs to return. read more

Exactly what a record store should be! Hundreds of (really) dusty records and a super FRIENDLY guy behind the counter just itching to talk to you about Syndicate of Sound and give you a free button. The records aren't always in great condition but they are always all at great prices. A bit of advice: don't worry about your budget as your shopping, just bring your stack of finds to the counter and Dyzzy will almost always give you a lower price for the lot. Carve out a couple hours in your afternoon, take a Benadryl and get to it! read more

This place is awesome. I called before hand to see if they have a Santana album that I needed as a birthday gift. They surely did. Score! This store mainly has classic rock, 80's, 90's, jazz, and oldie Vinyl records. Not a very large store, but it's brimmed from corner to corner with records. They only accept cash, and allow you to listen to anything on the record player before you buy. The prices are extremely reasonable. Some places charge double what this shop charges. I loved the nostalgic feel of this place, I felt like I walked into a record store from the 1970's. The clerk even put me up on vinyl game and told me that they are called LP's or Long Plays. He gave me a little educational lecture & schooled me on the creation of vinyls with out making me feel stupid. I was like,"Hmmmm, I didn't know that! Thank you!" I like this small record shop and I'll be back for sure. read more

Lots of records and lots of dust (just the way I like it). I found a lot of awesome records here and Dyzzy hits the spot on the pricing. Lots of deals and free record for my first time there?! HELL YEAH! I live a stones throw away from this place and barely made it in and I can tell you that I will be stopping by quite a bit from here on out! Everything is easy to find and the quality of the vinyl was good. Id look at some of the records before purchasing though none of my records were in bad quality at all. Best record prices in Long Beach here! I'd estimate about 10,000 records in stock. Mostly 70's rock but great selection of soul and jazz. Records start at 50 cents and max out at around $10-$15. This place is AMAZING! Talk about a time machine. We walked in and loaded up on goodness. I am sure I spent way more time just looking around at all of the neat stuff from years ago. Man, the memories of great music and film - being surrounded by so much of it was incredible. We chatted with the owner, Kevin, who has an interesting past an maintains this warm environment as a passion of his. He truly loves what he does. In the end, we ended up buying about 10 records and spotted many more we had to fight the temptation to take home - even though the prices were so great. We will definitely be back! read more

A fun place to go! Nice collection of LPs, and some organized areas are better than others. I wish the 45s were better organized and not all missing so many of the sleeves. This makes many of them very scratched, but again staying with what others have said, this place is cheap with great prices. He's got some sections (Beatles, Wings, Elvis) in their own section and not with 60s or 70s rock, so ask him about that. Owner is a cool guy, often having a beer with the TV on, and just having fun! Some items we brought to the counter: A cassette, some vinyl, and a VHS tape, he seemed to just pick prices (low!) out of the air and off we went. And no tax when paying cash! read more

It's hard to describe the experience of having shopped here because it hardly felt like I was shopping. You're kind of transported into this other world the moment you walk through the door, as if you're living in the 80's and you're hanging out in your friend's garage and they have a kick-ass collection that they want to share with you. Even the prices felt like it was a friend just hooking me up, like it was less about the money and more about them being glad to know someone shares their passion. I love a good bargain, so the first thing I did was bolt to the 50 cent wall when I saw it. Let me tell you, I've never hated myself so much while saving money. I saw 3 or 4 records in that section alone that I had paid far more money for in far less desirable condition. It was at this point I knew I screwed up by discovering this place so late in the game. I moved on to the more expensive sections (this is a relative term, it's still mind-blowingly cheap) and found multiple LPs I would be glad to pay $10+ for all priced at $5 and lower (Bill Evans Trio for $3 being the treasure of the day). Three hours later, I found myself holding a stack of 26 records. While this was all going on, I had the joy of eavesdropping on the owner as regulars came in and out and they had conversations like old friends about music and NFL football. It's a good vibe in the store. Kevin was playing album after album that I loved and most were bands I'd never heard. I got up to the register and I asked him to pick me any album that he thinks I should give a listen. His face lit up! That's when it really hit me. It wasn't a coincidence that it felt like I was visiting a friend's place! This is genuinely an owner who cares about his customers as well as someone who wants to preserve vinyl as a format for music lovers. In the end, I ended up getting two records of his choice because he picked a $2 album the first time around (Traffic - On The Road & B.T. Express - Shout! if you're curious). The first thing I did when I got home was listen to those two and I loved his recommendations! With his recommendations and my original 26 picks, the total came out to $30 for 28 total records. I've been to my share of record stores now and I've found ambience I love (Burger Records in Fullerton) as well as prices I love (Santa Ana Spin in Santa Ana), but this was the first place that excelled at both. I can only think of one negative - not much hip-hop and not much electronic. However, that doesn't warrant losing a star because this has been the case for every record store I've been to other than Amoeba (whose prices are not even close to the same ballpark as this store). I think Kevin/Dyzzy deserves a shoutout for having the best jazz collection I've seen in a store too. I will undoubtedly be coming back here! read more

Maybe because the vinyl format has made a comeback since my initial review back in 2008, but I made a stop in this past weekend and spent 45 minutes going through rack after rack, only to walk out with a super clean Best Of Steely Dan double LP (an album I remember my mother owning when I was a rug rat) for 5 bucks. read more

Compared to Bagatelle, this place is cheep. My first haul from here was 10 records for $10. Steely Dan's "Aja" was the only one that Dyzzy looked slightly askance at and thought for a split second about putting a higher price tag on it. Granted, yes, as others have said, the records aren't in great condition and the selection is far from extensive, but digging is half the fun anyway. Although it would be nice not to have to see Lionel Richie's smug, mustachioed mug every other record, who am I to complain? The shop earns some points for having on good tunes, making browsing more pleasurable. read more

I've found really rare albums in great shape at this tiny little record shop that I have never seen at the big stores. The prices are unbeatable really. If you willing to hunt and dig thrift the mounds if vinyl, you'll always go home with some satisfying wax. I've found countless rare 60's garage, out of print punk and psychedelia on LP and 45 format. Plus the guy is nice enough even though he is a Steeler fan. Boooo!!!
